Windows Media will not stop playing

Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit IE8

Windows Media play through the video, then restarts and continues to go in the same loop. At the present time, I opened Windows Media from my office and manually close the video. Worked OK until I went back to IE8. NO, I don't want to go back to IE9. THANKS in advance.

I was FINALLY able to follow your instrucrtions. Initially, I opened what I thought, it's Windows Media Player from the desktop only to find out that I opened up Windows Media Center instead. So, I opened the drive in the list of program and the repeat off. It works very well. THANX.

  • Media Player will not stop playing when the close button is hit.

My media player works fine until I try to close. When I watch a video clip, I make sure that I have 'stop' the clip before I "close" (the little red button with an X in it, which is suppose to close the program) the player or clip will continue to play in the background. If I brings up the Task Manager, it will display no programs running, I can still here the clip and I'm going to start > all programs > media player always plays the same clip. It is not suppose to do this right? If it is then how can I change so it 'close' media player?

    Hi major347,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft answers Community Forums.

This one seems to be really weird when you began experiencing this problem?

You have a connected PDA that uses the media player? Sometimes Windows Mobile Device Center has been continuously the reactivation of WMP.

Another possible issue of the keyboard that you use may control the media player. There are known of the problem with the Logitech keyboard software. Try this if you have a Logitech software update.

Try to open the Task Manager is trying to kill the wmpsideshowgadget.exe process and check if it shutsdown.

If it works there, then, open the CONTROL PANEL

    Double-click WINDOWS SIDESHOW

Uncheck everything that has to do with WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER

You can also try to disable sharing in media player click on... Tools-> Options-> library-> configure share-> uncheck the two 'media find others to share' & "share my media".

    Check if it works.

If all the above fails try to perform the clean boot

  • Windows XP will not stop with service pack 3

Several months ago I installed service pack 3 for Windows XP.  From as soon as possible, the system would block when I'm going to stop it.  The only cure (for a novice like me) was to put the computer manually.  Sometimes, maybe once every 15 - 20 times, the system shuts down normally.

I lived with it, but it's very boring, so I went to remove the program from the service pack 3 today, and the system does not allow deletion.  So my question is:
    1. is there a way for me to solve this problem when windows will not be stopped?  , or,
    2. is there a way for me to remove service pack 3?

    Thanks for your help!

At some point, this computer had McAfee and Norton.

The foregoing notwithstanding, Norton and McAfee applications are notorious for not to uninstall (or upgraded) themselves. "Leftovers" can be the cause of your problems:

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

1B. download the tool McAfee Consumer Product Removal, save it to your desktop: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. double-click on the file that you saved in # 1 a above, to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    4. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    5. double-click on the file that you saved in # 1 b above to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then reboot once again.

=> Did you get SP3 installed again and is the computer fully patched to Windows Update (including the most recent update root certificates)?

Extended support for WinXP SP2 ends July 10, 2010. After this date, the computers running under that WinXP SP2 will NOT be offered for additional updates of critical security, automatic updates do not work, and site Web Windows Update won't be available until SP3 is installed.

  • update of Windows xp will not stop running

Recently, I ran the discs of recovery and resources in order to re-install Xp Home on my HP Mini.  Everything works well except the "windows update" option.  When I click on it, the program will run forever without stopping, nor it will update all files.

    Can someone give me advice?
    Thank you, Tom

    Hey JA.

    A strange thing happened.
After failing to get the windows update program runs correctly (i.e. stop execution), I rebooted my computer HP mini and I forgot about the update... Well, when I turned on the computer the next morning there is a new icon and a message in the system tray that said I had 3 files to install.  And yet this morning there was another automatic update file waiting for me to install it. Everything installed without a problem. My history of update file has 4 facilities!

These files are obviousl recent updates from the time wherever I did a full restore of the Xp operating system three days ago.  But what of all the updates that have been issued from the moment where I bought the computer five years ago, until I reinstalled the OS 3 days ago?
    ABRAZOS,
    Tom

  • Windows Vista will not stop or restart

When I try to quit or restart my computer, the screen indicates "SHUTTING DOWN", then the display shuts off, the power light goes off on the tower but increases the speed of the fan at maximum speed and the unit will continue to operate in this way until I have turn it off manually. When I try to turn the computer back on I get the same thing, the lights and the fan runs at maximum speed nothing else happens, the monitor does not come on or anything else, he just 'buzzes '. I'm not the only person having this problem, I know at least two other people who have exactly the same problem! I was told that a faulty update of Microsoft is to blame for the problem I encounter but I can't find a "solution" for this anywhere. I can do to remedy this? Need help please, I can't afford to buy a new computer at the moment and unable to restart, my computer works perfectly. All this trouble started about three weeks ago. See the window? I don't know what is happening. Sometimes the time I open a new window. I just bought a new computer and it was fine. I don't know if it's a matter of Tablet Wacom or what, but I was messing around with the Tablet because I'm having a problem in InDesign, which is due to the interaction of the tablet with the ink of Windows. The other issue is more annoying and now this crazy anomaly. Help! Please, I beg you!

The only thing I see is that your taskbar is at the top of the screen instead of low. This can happen by dragging one of the four sides.

    • Place the cursor on the area of the bar that does not contain an icon
    • Down at the bottom of the screen, it will snap in place
    • Now right click on taskbar, and then choose lock.
