Windows Server 2012 with EFI fails to start after reset of HA

The purpose of this thread:
1. a solution, if anyone else has this problem.
2. If someone has a better knowledge of why this happens or how avoid feel free to explain it please.

The scenario:

I was a new analysis a HBA via the Web Client (something I've done many times before in the non-Web client without any problem...) and loses connectivity to the ESXi host. No response from the ESXi at all and I've noticed a GROUP... That's fine for now...

The biggest problem is that the VM on the failed host installs via HA to my other ESXi in the cluster, each of them has started normally except my 2012 server s. Just the Automatic Startup Repair Wizard has started, and I couldn't do much from there... I tried a few things auto repair, but they could not fill...

So, I entered the command line tools and ran from diskpart. Discs not presented at all. That's where he hit that I use PVSCSI drivers for my 2012 s server so I was trying to understand how I could inject the command line, but I tried something else first...
I started the virtual machine on the ISO 2012 server. Tried the option repair, no OS not found to fix, so I chose a new installation and loaded drivers PVSCSI pvscsi-floppy, interrupted the installation and tried the repair option again. He said something like "Continue to start Windows Server 2012" and viola! The VM rebooted successfully and started successfully in the operating system.

All 3 2012 Server virtual machines on failure that esxi is affected. No Server 2008 or linux where affected machines but they do not use the pilot PVSCSI.

Anyone has a solution alter or maybe an explanation why this happened? This will happen if HA into action on my server 2012 s?

Is it possible to test or confirm without killing an ESXi host?

I am running vSphere 5.5 and I don't think that I had this problem with 5.0 or 5.1, but I'm not 100% sure that cause I don't remember no matter which GROUP or another that are running older versions of the failure.

Hardware version is 9, EFI boot.

Thank you!

Finally, I solved this... Looks like a mistake to the EFI initialization after reset of a HA. I know EFI is not supported by FT but I'm only using HA I can't find anywhere that it says that it should not work.

This is how I fixed the corrupt WS2012 boots:

1 boot WS2012 ISO, select new installation, load drivers PVSCSI, interrupt installation and choose repair. (Only needed if PVSCI-pilot helps you bootdisk)
2. choose Help and then command Promt
3. Run diskpart
flight type list
Locate the number of the partition-small FAT32 EFI, in my case nr 3
Salt type flight 3

type assign

flight type list

Choose the letter assigned, in my case E:
Type exit

4 cd /d e:\efi\microsoft\boot

5 ren BCD BCD.bak

6 bcdboot c:\windows/l en-us/s E: /f ALL

7 bootrec /fixmbr

Bootrec /fixboot

Bootrec /scanos

Bootrec /rebuildbcd

Don't know if all these are necessary... However, it works. Note that the scanos and rebuildbcd show 0 found BONES.

8 exit the command prompt and click on "Continue starting the server 2012" after that recharge should work properly again.

    Hi all

Is it possible to implement the feature data Bit Locker encryption on my Virtual Machine to Windows Server 2012 Std on the Platform VMware ESXi 5.1 vSphere update 1 ?

The hypervisor is currently running on servers HP Blade BL 460 c G8 . Read well the hardware specification: http://h18001.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/14208_na/14208_na.pdf I see that he has taken a TPM installed on the blade, but I don't know how to make sure that it is activated or used by the Virtual Machine?

Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

I had a few goes at it and it's not like you can virtualize a TPM. It would make sense if it was the case - the secure TPM was not designed to manage multiple instances of the OS.

I ended up making USB passthrough on a USB stick and have the Bitlocker key stored on this stick as a demo. Certainly not a transaction supported, but it showed that the storage of key seems to be the only issue.

  • EMC XtremIO Gen2 table, vSphere 5.5 and Windows Server 2012 R2 EFI

We spin the new array of XtremIO Gen2 a POC of EMC and discovered a problem with customers running Windows Server R2 2012 or the EFI firmware. The details are in the blog below, but the goal here is to ask for the community of entry of anyone else running on XtremIO with firmware Win2k12 R2 and non - R2 and EFI/BIOS. EMC support is also working on this subject, so I can finish to post my reply here. Nevertheless, community information XtremIO is so limited (because of his November GA), I hope that this will make a difference.

Blog/details: XtremIO Gen2 EMC and VMware: bcTechNet

    Environment:

    Dell PowerEdge R810/R820 hosts

    QLogic CNAs 8262 (5, 5-compatible firmware/drivers)

    Switches-Cisco Nexus 5548UP

    FCoE to guests; CF storage

    3Par T400 source of storage (FC 4 GB/s)

Target storage XtremIO Gen2 (8 Gbps FC)

VMware vSphere, ESXi 5.5 Build 1331820

The Windows Server 2008 R2 (BIOS), 2012 (BIOS) clients and 2012 R2 (EFI)

Storage 3PAR - no problem with all the guests

XtremIO storage - can not (re) start guests R2 EFI 2012

After a few weeks of troubleshooting by engineers from VMware and EMC/XtremIO, the question was determined to be a problem starting EFI replace a block of 7 MB in the XtremIO table, which filled the queue, and who would never clear that he expected more data to complete the communication (i.e. deadlock). This seems to happen only with firmware of EFI VMs (tested with 2012 Windows and Windows 2012 R2) and the question is on the end of XtremIO.

The good news is that the problem can be mitigated by adjusting the Disk.DiskMaxIOSize parameter on each ESXi host by default 32 MB 32768-4 MB (4096). You can find it in vCenter > Home > Configuration > advanced settings (from the bottom) > drive > Disk.DiskMaxIOSize. The XtremIO team is working on a permanent fix in the meantime, and the workaround can be implemented hot with no impact on ongoing operations (potentially minor host CPU load increase as ESXi breaks > 4 MB e/s in MB 4 pieces).

The rest of the ventilation on the latency, small block IO, etc. can be read here: XtremIO EMC and VMware EFI | bcTechNet

Thank you, Darius, and EMC/XtremIO team.

  • vmxnet3 adapter on windows server 2012 with problem of bottleneck for MSSQL Server

    Hello!

We have a server windows 2012 R2 with MSSQL server 2014.

The client software uses the jdbc for database connection. If customers make a query which collects a massive amount of data the whole thing slowed down after a while.

Then, his need to wait 10-20 minutes to speed up again. I have tested and tried everything.

    -measure the ethernet parameters

    -replace the cables by cat7

-installed a virtual machine with the windows client and the real customer use the virtual environment via rdp

-activated the RSS in the vmxnet3 advanced settings and windows

-the mode SplitRx in vcenter vm settings and disabled ethernet Coalescent too

-set the VM to high latency

-tried to migrate the virtual machine to another host

Not for their help. If a massive sql query is run first its great, then the need for a second or more to check a single record.

checked the vm cpu stress but its less than 5% all the time. Checked the network with wireshark, there are a lot of small packets but nothing big. The bandwidth used is still low.

When its idle delay after two packets will increase from a few ms to 400-500 ms.

Our most powerful server is an HP DL380 G9 with two octa core Xeon processor 384 GB of ram, full SSD datastore. Its a lightning fast host.

The virtual machine have 8 core cpu and 64 GB of ram.

No matter where am I up the virtual machine or how many resources provide the custom aisle question.

The strange thing is when customers slowed down I can copy large files between the client and the server with fast speed, so the slow sql.

I can solved this question if I use the ethernet E1000 instead of the VMXNET3 adapter, but E1000 have much more load and the server need to transfer big files too, not only the sql service.

Vmxnet3 much faster and have less overhead, but this question of sql, I have a problem with that. So I go back to the E1000 for now. Its slower eat more cpu but the sql connections works very well without any problems.

Can someone tell me what I can try harder to identify the vmxnet3 problem? I really need it to improve network performance and lower overhead, but the rapid sql is the top priority.

    Thank you!!!

We had exactly the same problem on our SQL servers once upgraded to Vsphere6.This is due to Receive Segment coalescence feature in new VMXNET3-nics on Win 2012.

    More details here: http://nickmarshall.com.au/blog/2015/7/24/vsphere-6-hardware-version-11

The best way to solve this problem is to turn it off completely in the server operating system (in the admin command prompt):

netsh int tcp set global rsc = disabled

    Check with:

    netsh int tcp show global

It's fast and easy without downtime or disruptions and involves no change types of nic.

After doing this on all our SQL and application servers, everything was ok.

  • Windows Vista 32-bit is failing to start after the success of the recovery.

Hi all, my apologies if this has already been covered in another post, I checked but I'm new here so might have forgotten.

I have a HP Pavilion a6442a with Windows Vista 32-bit. A couple of weeks it froze, forcing me to maually shut down, and now it does not restart. It gets so far then goes to startup repair, which never seems to find no problem. I tried restoring the system (to several different restore points), conducted diagnostic tests, conducted tests of memory and hd and tried commissioning in all modes as I could: no problem can't find anywhere and I always had the same problem. Finally, I backed up my files and made a full recovery of the system. It said it completed successfully, I restarted to complete the installation of Windows, it gets "Please wait a moment while Windows starts for the first time... "freezes, restarts and then traced directly back to the start screen for repair.

I am at a loss, I've done everything I can think. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hello:

Have you added any hardware configuration inventory (other than replace the hard disk or add memory)?

Do you have only the mouse, keyboard and screen plugged in when you ran the recovery procedure?

If the answer to question 1, remove any material that you have installed that do not come with the PC and try to recover again.

If the PC is recovering successfully, close and reinstall your spare hardware.

If not, question 2, unplug anything other than the mouse, the keyboard and the monitor and try to recover again.

If you continue to be confused and you can read all 25 characters of the product key of Vista on your PC case, you can make your own Vista installation media.

It will be just a simple installation of Vista and no software other than the operating system will be included.

You can install the drivers and software available to support for your PC and driver page.

Link to the info below... click on the blue link of the reinstallation of Windows Guide PDF and start reading the news of Vista that starts on page 296.

  • PowerEdge 1850 - installation of Windows Server 2012

Hi guys, I have a Poweredge 1850 which I brought cheap on ebay, I use it as a NAS abit to free up space on my iMac and stream movies/music to my computer or via DLNA to my TV and PS3.  I am currently running Ubuntu that I kind of like/dislike, I also like to use my server as abit of a toy game project, and I like to try things, like using a webcam as a security camera which I can access when im etc.  I also use it to connect via ftp to and run Web etc pages.

Now you know how I like to play with my server please can you help me :(  I want to try a new OS, I don't fear wipeing and start again as I can save on an external HARD drive.  I have a copy of Windows Server 2012 with I think that 30 days free and if I like it will activate.  When I boot from the CD, I get to the bit where it asks an installation location, but I can not find disks for select, I know I probably install the drivers I've tried (whether they are good or not, I don't know) my problem is they are .exe I can't load it as im on my mac:(-je n'avais pas ce problème de localisation deles de lecteurs quand j'ai installé Ubuntu) who find them without problem.

Is it also possible to do this via VNC, I use remote on my server as I placed it in my garage.  Its abit of an effort to bring it inside more, she is rather noisy.

A quick, someone could go through how to configure my drives in the bios, because I don't want to use RAID, I rather just have them as two discs rather than with her backup to another.

Would be very grateful if you could help me with my "little" project (maybe we could both remote in and talk via Skype and do it together: D)

    Kind regards

    PriestyUK

Yes, 2012 needs pilots, and the only way to get out them of the EXE is to run the EXE to extract the content (or use another tool for extraction).

If you don't have a Windows machine (or you are not able to do it in a box of Linux/Mac), is not a virtual Windows machine that you can extract it, AND you have access to Server 2008 (not R2), then you can install it with this long enough to get the extracted driver, as pilots PERC 4 are from 2008 (but not later).

Because Dell can't 2012 on 8G servers, you will need to use the drivers for Server 2008 R2:
http://www.Dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/product/Poweredge-1850?driverId=9K3D3&osCode=WS8R2&FILEID=2731109791 (you need the 'hard drive' version)

The RAID controller integrated to 1850 (PERC 4e/Si) does NOT support so no RAID, in order to use the disks individually, you must configure each disk in a single drive RAID 0.  An alternative would be to disable RAID entirely, that uses only the onboard SCSI controller.  The RAID cache will be more usable with RAID disabled well.

You configure RAID in the CTRL-M (during POST) utility.  You disable RAID in BIOS (F2), in respect of the integrated devices (CTRL-M will not be accessible when disabled - you use CTRL-A to display the disks).

    Hello Experts,

I try to install WLS10.3.6 on MS Windows Server 2012 (64-bit) SP2 with generic Setup.

    1 installed jdk1.7 (jdk-7u80-windows - x 64)

    2. then ran wls1036_generic.jar

    C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_80\bin > java-D64-jar D:\SW_Installers\06.Weblogic\wls1036_generic\wls1036_generic.jar

Cannot create the temporary extraction directory in the default location.

, I get the above error message. Attaching screenshot. http://www.use.com/FpC0P

    Can you please help?

    Thank you

    Benoit

Just to update, finally ran wls1036_generic.jar. Problem was probably related to the virtual machine.

    We were in-

    C:\Java\jdk1.7.0_80\bin>Java-D64-jar D:\SW_Installers\06.Weblogic\wls1036_generic\wls1036_generic.jar

    Error - a

Cannot create the temporary extraction directory in the default location.

The temporary extraction directory is the Windows temporary folder. The location is-

    Folder - %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp where %UserProfile% - c\:users\ [acctname]

But when you run start > run > %Temp%, I see.

C:\Users\ccbgso\AppData\Local\Temp\2--et error was a drive is not accessible.

And \2 was the problem, because there is not C:\Users\ccbgso\AppData\Local\Temp\2.

To correct this error, we did it-

    Start > run > Regedit > hkey_current_user > volatile environment

    And found 2 below.

Chosen the 2, then the two TEMP & TMP sought in the right pane.

    the values were - C:\Users\ccbgso\AppData\Local\Temp\2

Right-click each & click on modify, remove the \2

    Clicekd on ok.

    Disconnected and re connected.

    And then ran

    C:\Java\jdk1.7.0_80\bin>Java-D64-jar D:\SW_Installers\06.Weblogic\wls1036_generic\wls1036_generic.jar

This time, he began the extraction and 'Install Oracle - Weblogic 10.3.6.0' Welcome screen appears.

    Thank you best regards &,.

  • Windows Server 2012 stuck at startup when running on top of KVM with active regrouping of CPU

    Hi all

We observe an interesting problem when running Windows Server 2012 on top of KVM to multiple processors.

When the collection of the CPU is disabled, Windows starts and works very well.

When the grouping of CPU is activated by:

    bcdedit /groupaware on
    bcdedit /groupsize 2

Windows hangs at startup while displaying a black screen with logo and won round progress indicator.

We have produced the crash dump by injection of interruption NMI via QEMU/KVM debugging facilities, the look of stacks of appeal as follows:

There are always two or more CPUs stuck in KeFlush...() functions dealing with IPIs.

The problem looks like interrupt loss during IPI-ALL-BUT-SELF dispatching, we tried to track possible problems in KVM code that may lead to an issue like this but found nothing so far.The issue looks even more interesting taking into consideration that as far as we know CPU grouping is SW-only feature that doesn't have real effect on hardware. We will be grateful for any idea that could help to resolve the problem. Thanks in advance!P.S. Kernel crash dump is available at https://www.dropbox.com/s/07qb6wz9nacwhxn/MEMORY.DMP.zip?dl=0

  • PowerEdge 2850 Windows Server 2012 do not start

Well, I have a PE 2850 that was loaded to the top with Windows Server 2012 at the beginning of the year last as part of our upgrade to Windows 7. Even though I know that Windows Server 2008 is the latest version of Microsoft to officially support the SCSI interfaces as RAID PERC 4E/DI included in the 2850 card, I was able to work around in first install 64-bit Server 2008 with the SCSI drivers and then doing an upgrade online to the 2012 server.

Everything went fine for the last year and half, but when I got to work yesterday, the server had crashed and he was sitting on the screen of the BIOS with the following error message:

Memory/battery problems were detected. The adapter has recovered, but cached data have been lost. Press a key to continue.

I pressed on enter and the server started to move to a preparation repair screen Windows where the progress bar is not long about 80% of the way and then froze for more than an hour. Subsequent attempts to restart in safe mode led to the server of freezing for several minutes before restarting once more to this same error message at the Windows logo screen. I can pull up to the management of the RAID and see my partitions still there, and I even loaded my readers in an old PE 2600 to check consistency on the logical drives (no problem found). However, the old 2600 is 32-bit architecture and it won't try to boot into the operating system.

At this point, I'm really just trying to get a full backup of my system. I don't mind getting a new server, but I don't want to keep throwing money at this old piece of 12 year of equipment without knowing if it works or not. The problem is that 2012 uses ReFS, and none of the recovery programs I found can access my logical volumes. Boot from the OS Installation disk in the recovery console doesn't work, because the OS disk does not include SCSI drivers native to be able to see the score of the OS or the data partition.

I think I'll call a few services data recovery tomorrow, but I would check here for ideas first. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Microsoft has removed native SCSI support with 2008 R2, but R2 2008 provided Dell drivers for the PERC. These drivers work for the installation of Server 2012 as well.

Memory/battery message: all stop and order the memory of replacement for the controller RAID, 4D554 part number. Nothing related to the operating system won't work (installation, repair, etc.) until you do. This question is very specific to the PERC 4e/Di on the 28 x 0.

The 2850 is not 12 years. First of all, he started 10 years ago to shipping.

  • ProLiant DL320e with Windows Server 2012 Bluescreen

    Hello

I installed Windows Server R2 with smart supply a Proliant DL320e Server 2012 R2 and it bluescreens much. The blue screen message is a pretty no description "KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE".

I installed a second Proliant DL320e server and it shows the same behavior, so I conclude that this isn't a defective hardware.

I found some knowledge which mentions screens blue and with the driver for Smart Array
    http://h20628.www2.HP.com/km-ext/content-webapp/document?docid=emr_na-c03793656 & DTD = default & local = d...
But the update and version numbers do not match.

Drivers, software and firmware for the HP DL320e Gen8 ProLinat Server Page did not all downloads for my OS-, but it displays a warning that it is experiencing problems.

I tried to fill in the HP Support Assistant, but I got an email in response, telling me that they are currently unable to help with e-Mail support.

The servers are offline on a clients site in a restricted environment so that they lack updates online.

During this time, I downloaded the SPP Service Pack for Windows Server
FTP://FTP.HP.com/pub/softlib2/software1/CD-generic/p652182553/v84427/SPPMDSLWIN2013090.2013_0830.7.i... and today, I'll try if it corrects the blue screens.

    Does anyone have pointers?

    Take care

    Martin

Thank you, I have not found this forum. If an admin could move it which would be best.

Just in case anyone else has this problem is this question:

I contacted HP by telephone support and the solution is:

Do not use smart supply when you configure your server, it is not supported and it will be randomly bluescreen with Windows Server R2 2012. You must install windows directly, so take your storage driver and copy it to a usb key and load the driver during the installation of windows. In my case I needed to use the mass storage drivers for Windows Server 2008 R2 from http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdDetails/?sp4ts.oid=5293151 & spf_p.tpst = swdMain & spf_p.prp_swdMain=wsrp-navigationalState%3Didx%253D%257CswItem%253DMTX_9b5424c852a54e49b501e280e5%257CswEnvOID%253D4064%257CitemLocale%253D%257CswLang%253D%257Cmode%253D%257Caction%253DdriverDocument & javax.portlet.begCacheTok = com.vignette.cachetoken & javax.portlet.endCacheTok = com.vignette.cachetoken

    Take care

  • Windows Server 2012 Foundation and SMB problems with older equipment

    Hello

My problem would be resolved if I had Windows Server R2 2012 but I have Windows Server 2012 Foundation.

This article describes the problem exactly: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2896636

But of course, the solution does work with my version of the server.

Does anyone know if there is a similar fix available?  I got my hunting.

    With oData
    . Async = False
In the opposite case. LoadXML (DataNode) then alert "could not load DataNode.  "&. parseError.reason
    Ends with

    OTMPC Dim
The value of OTMPC = createobject ("MSXML2.") DOMDocument.6.0")

    oData.transformNodeToObject style, the OTMPC

I get the error in Windows Server 2012below.

-2147024882 is not enough storage is available to complete this operation.

This error occurs only in Windows Server 2012. The above code works fine with Windows 7 (MSXML). I noticed the name of the product of msxml6.dll in Windows 7 is MSXML 6.0 SP3 and Microsoft XML Core Services in Windows Server 2012. Also I noticed the Task Manager, it took more memory in Windows Server 2012.

The above code works fine in all lower versions of the operating system except Windows Server 2012. Please give the solution for this.
