• My computer guard direct me to the Windows Startup Repair loop. Is this a virus? If this is not the case, what should I do?

  OK, here's a little history:
  When was surfing the Internet (using Mozilla Firefox), he froze and said that he "did not." Then I left the computer alone for a good 15 minutes, but to realize that nothing happened. From there, I decided to disconnect the computer to see if I can re - open Firefox. But when I tried to connect it back, the computer take me on the desk. It was stuck at the screen that says 'Welcome' (the form that appears after clicking on your user name) in the end, I turned off the computer by holding the power button, because there was nothing I could do. When I turned on the computer a few minutes later, it was time that I met a huge problem.

  The problem:
  When I turned it back on, a black screen appears that gives you the ability to boot your system with a repair on your computer, or start normally. I chose "start normally. After that, it took me a blue screen with a window that says "Startup Repair". He began to scan the computer saying «attempted repairs...» "When I saw this, I turned immediately shut down the computer, thinking it was some sort of virus that pretends to fix the computer. Nevertheless, I decided to turn it on for the second time. Of course, it's the same thing. But this time, I allow the scanning process to complete. When it was over, he said that the system could not be repaired and advised me to contact Microsoft, with my "contact information." I took this as a red flag, and click Cancel. I suspected it was an attempt to identity theft. (Though, I could be wrong, of course.)

  Honestly, I don't know if if there is indeed something wrong with the computer or if it's a virus.

  I tried to find out by going online and looking for solutions. From there, I tried a method where you press F8 several times until the Advanced Boot Options go up and selected "Last known Configuration" that did not work. I also heard on the "chkdsk" method, but I don't know how to do and there is no guarantee this will work.

  After that, I did more research and realized there were several ways to solve this problem. But when I went through the tutorials, the steps have been very confusing to me. I felt like most of these tutorials aimed computer technicians or people who knew in fixing computers. The steps were so confused until I found myself referring more questions than real answers!

  So now I'm reaching out to help, and I really need! It would be greatly appreciated! I really don't want to format all my data.

  Please keep in mind that I am a lover of computers operating. The two programs I normally use are Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Word. So please don't be assuming that I know my way in and out of a computer. I'm no where near, in every sense of the term, an 'Expert '. If you can, I would like a simple, easy to follow, simple tutorial, step by step, which is not turned to professional users. Still, I am not very competent in operating computers.

  4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
  5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
  6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

  Once in Safe Mode with network, download and run RKill.

  I have windows 7 Home premium 64-bit on dell PCs.  I lost power then in the middle of the update to windows 10.  Now, I'm stuck on the windows Boot Manager screen and the windows error recovery screen.  When asked ¨launch startup repair, ¨I get then message ¨the boot selection failed because a required device is not accessible. ¨ When asked ¨start windows normally, ¨I get same selection boot error message.  I have my disc to install windows 7 HP, but I can't get the pc able to read the disc.  I tried the key windows and ¨r¨to get a prompt to read the disk, but it does not work.  I tried the hard stop pressing the start for 10 sec button, but it does not restart the computer.  I unplugged the computer in hopes that it would help restart, but this doesn´t work.  I am stuck in windows boot manager purgatory - Help!

• Computer turns on but does not boot to Windows, startup repair does not work

  When I turn on my laptop, it brings me to a screen titled "Windows Error Recovery" which means the following:

  "Windows did not start.  A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. »

  At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

  After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.

  Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.

  Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1^st in the boot order.

  Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.

  When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.

  Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

  Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).

• Cannot start Windows & startup repair does not work!

  I have Windows 7 Home Premium installed on the HP DM4t laptop. My laptop can not restart. I tried using the reapir drive system but it shows some loading filed and I got a black screen with the pointer (arrow). It remains like this for hours and hours (4 to 6 hours), but never get to "System Recovery Options". I'm not able to boot in SafeMode as well. I'm trying to recover the OS using the Factory Reset but ii can't at this point because it won't let me get to "System Recovery Options".

• Satellite C850 - loading Windows and repair fails

  Hi guys

  One of the children a Toshiba Satalite C850 got for Christmas (with windows 8) and everything was fine, last week the conputer crashed and will not re-start.

  When loading it shows the Toshiba logo then a message short windows saying there was a problem and then the Toshiba logo appears again.

  He says while he does an auto repair, but after a few seconds, it goes to a black screen and stops.

  What I tried.

  I created an emergency boot disk when I got the computer so I had to boot from the DVD in Bios and insert the floppy disk in and it loads disc for a few seconds, not giving any option to boot from the drive and then repeat the above problem.

  I tried the disc in my office to make sure that the disc was ok and it booted from it immediately and set up the windows repair tool.

  I also tried without success.

  Remove the battery and pressing power for 10 to 30 seconds and then turn on with AC power only.

  Turned on by pressing the 0 (some sites suggest this may work)

  Any other suggestions that I could try as cannot call the assistance that they are now closed for the weekend :)

  You have created a recovery media? If so, try to reinstall the OS using this media.
  Otherwise try to reinstall the OS using HARD drive recovery option.

  Hi, yesterday my computer was working normally. Then, when I tried to start windows (from windows), Startup Repair came and it did not fix the problems, I tired every single method on the web, like; running chkdsk in invite command, reconstruction, mounting, Startup Manager, trying to launch (3 options) safe mode, debugging mode, disable automatic reboot error system, last known good configuration, repair my computer and restore the system. Everything that the web offers on this conflict, and I'm still stuck in this infinite loop, had no more left options (dealing with re - install, which worked, but again returned to the same conflict), someone out there please help.

• Caught in the endless startup repair, restart the cycle

  I can't get Windows Vista (which must be up-to-date with patches) starts correctly. He's trying to do the Startup Repair, but it is impossible to recover automatically.

  Last night I let the laptop (Dell Inspiron 1525) update iTunes 10.1. Once he had finished, I chose not to restart immediately, closed from programs running and stop.

  This morning, the computer complained to be stop incorrectly, traveled the Startup Repair (over an hour) and was caught in a cycle with no end to the Startup Repair failed.

  I tried looking for a file C:\Windows\winsxs\pending.xml (advice), but there is no such file. I removed an entry in registry PendingXmlIdentifier in HKLM\Components and a mention AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving even place.

  In addition, I can't without failure or last known good configuration mode. System Restore tells me it was successful, but it makes no difference. The last two changes concern Apple USB-driver and another driver of Apple to restore points.

  All attempts to no effect.

  I don't have Vista DVD/CD at hand.

  Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  It is likely that the problem with the hard drive has corrupted your Windows installation.  I suggest a fresh new install of Windows.

  1 - backup of your data
  2 - start from the installation DVD (this looks like a Dell DVD - so you would have to press F12 at the Dell splash screen to enter the Boot Options menu)
  3 follow the prompts to install Windows

  I suggest you to download the driver of network cable from the Dell website to a flash drive before that.  In this way, you can install the wired driver and connect to the internet in order to get the rest of the drivers available for your system.

  To do this, go to http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs and enter your Service tag.
  Scroll to the network section and download the wired network driver - if there is more than one, collect them all!  Once Windows is installed we can understand that one to use.

  Then, when Windows is installed and you are connected to the internet...
  1 - open up Device Manager and see what devices must be updated
  2 - visit the above Web site and download/install the drivers for these devices.

• Win 7 does not start, the Startup Repair says corrupt amdide64.sys

  I uninstalled my ATI Catalyst Control Center, which forced a restart.  The reboot takes me to the windows startup repair which fails to solve the problem.  The log shows that theamdide64.sys is corrupted.  The options don't help me.  For example, I have no recovery points on this computer, then that option does not work.

  There was a post on the forums who suggested using the win7 install disk and choosing the repair option, but who also wants a recovery point and will not work.

  You probably won't be able to run the repair facility, since you can't boot into Windows at all.

  Since it's disk about the best way to back up your data, would be to put the hard drive
  in another computer as a 2nd drive (best method) or "possibly" in a USB external box (less
  likely to work in this case). Or the other may allow you to copy the data to a removable such as
  CD, DVD and other USB units. Of course a real store of the computer or the manufacturer of the system can help
  with data recovery. There are professional data recovery companies even if these services are
  generally expensive.

  the data.

  There are several methods to reinstall Vista.

  There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

  You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

  They should do this for a small fee.

  To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

  And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

  The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

  Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

  Ask them to the proper key sequence.

  And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.
