BIOHD - 8 A SMART test failed

I have a PC HP Touch Smart 300 and have had it for 8 months with no problems. He suddenly began to slow down & gel (I am able to move the cursor, but unable to close all windows or shut down correctly on pc) I am also unable to access the Manager of tasks due to an error message. I ran the HP startup diagnostics and received the following message: BIOHD-8 A SMART test ST3750528AS (5VP4W8LJ) test failure. I tried to run the system restore, but it has been unable to find restore points. I have download the upgrade 4 on the drive from another pc and install it manually to see if that helps. Thanks in advance for the answers.   Here are some additional features:

I also went in the BIOS BOOT MENU by pressing F12 at startup and ran diagnostics that seemed to have said everything going, however I saw a mistake, faliure in its process that was too fast for me to write the error.

In a nutshell, my thought is that my hard drive has failed / is corrupted or is about to fail.

My simple question is, do I need a new hard drive with the information I've provided?

  • SMART short test failed

Under hardware Maintence diagnosed and he tells me that the SMART short Test failed what it means and how to fix this

I think that trying to DEFRAGMENT a hard disk 'default' is the wrong thing to do.

Compare to the conduct of a dirt road with Bald tires - while the Bald tires may be OK on a dry, paved, road between them work "hard" will result in a failure of the tire.

Similarly, many files on the hard drive when it is expected to be soon to fail, is also a bad idea.

Any small computer boss store can sell you a hard drive brand new and may try to "clone" of 100% of the hard drive of the 'old' drive on 'new' disk

Price?  It depends on the capacity (250 GB? 500 GB? 1000GO? 2000 GB?).

About US $100, you will have a new disk drive with a capacity greater than your current drive.

Add $50 to $100 US for the technician:

    Open the computer case,

    * Check the physical size and the capacity of the old-disk drive, to recommend a "compatible" replacement

    * Fix temporarily the new discs,

    * run the software "-disk cloning."

    * delete the old records (and he will give it to you, so that you can literally hammer it, so that no one will ever be able to read one of your folders – think 'security'),

    * connect permanently the new disks.

    * close the computer case,

    * test it.

It also depends on the "age" of your computer.

If it is still running Windows XP or Windows Vista, it will be over ten years - REPLACE a computer of this type.

rather than spend more than US $150 to keep until something else died of "old age".

It is likely that you will need to replace the hard drive.  To confirm, press F12 at startup, enter the Dell diagnostics.  Run an extended hard drive test.

If the system is under warranty, logs the error and contact Dell for a replacement drive.

If the system is out of warranty, any standard 3.5 "SATA drive will work as a replacement.

and I can only find firmware on the Dell site for both LITEONIT SSD 256 GB drives, or precisely what mine are. (Only LITEONIT LCS-256M6S 2.5 256 GB and LITEONIT LMT-256M3M MSATA 256Go are listed).

  • SMART extended self test failed

Unfortunately, the result of this test tells you that the hard drive has failed, you will need to replace the hard drive.  You can save your data by installing the drive on another PC using one of the spare hard drive SATA connections, if it is a SATA or IDE secondary connector if the drive is IDE and try to read the disc in windows, but it depends on how much the failure of hard drive is. The reader may not even be readable.

    Hello

The short drive Self Test (DST) failure error code would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

If you are out of warranty and would like a guide to replacing the hard drive yourself, let me know.

  • Test "Failed" detected on my Compaq Presario CQ5320F during regular maintenance.

I need to know what steps should I take.  This is the first time I had a test failed.  Who says failure is SMART self-test.  I have Windows 7 operating system.  Thanks for any help.

    Hello patlee7,

A SMART test failure points to your hard drive. The SMART test is designed to run tests on the hard drive and search for and identify anything that may indicate failure of hard drive. If the test fails maybe it's you letting know your hard drive may die soon.

Remember to back up your data and prepare for this eventuality. If you do not wait for the right drive die you can consider replacing the hard drive in the machine.

  • "Disk hard test" failed

My laptop was not starting and then to a system diagnostics page, advising me to do a hard drive Test. I did, and then he led me to a screen saying:

    "Disk hard Test" failed

    "Hard drive 1 SMART" (301)

    "Hard drive 1 QUICK" (303)

    'Hard drive 1 FULL' (305)

Diagnostics of the system... and then it just says: tests of f1 - f4.

What would the next step from here? I'll try some of the different tests.

    Thank you, Leah.

    Hi Lea,.

All error codes (301 is a Smart failure with 303 & 305 respectively being the short & Long drive Self Test failed) would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.  This is also consistent with the question of commissioning.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.
