  • New error causing the Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 80246002 during the search for updates

I use Windows 7 64-bit with Service Pack 1. Windows Update worked fine until the Windows Update Agent is automatically updated to 7.6.7600.320 in August 2014. Now, when Windows Update tries to search for updates, it reports "Windows could not search for updates" and indicates that the 80246002 error code was received.

[UPDATE]  Since posting this query, I think I solved my problem by following the instructions described on the page "Update tool of the system for Windows 7 for x 64-based Systems (KB947821) [may 2014]."   I downloaded the file (Windows6 1 - KB947821 - v33 - x 64.msu) and then let it settle. He describes himself as "Fix for Windows (KB947821)".  The installation took awhile, with a lot of disk activity.  When he finally finished, I rebooted my machine and tried an update of Windows. It seems to work fine; He even found a significant update that I then installed successfully.  So apparently my problem the hotfix for Windows (KB947821) provided the solution.

[UPDATE 2]  After seeing the messages on the change the DNS to resolve the problem, I thought I would add the following information where it is necessary:

    • I use the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer 11 and confirmed it works in 64-bit mode by inspecting the user agent of the browser.  You can check the user agent of your browser by visiting http://user-agent.me/
    • My Internet Protocol properties are set to 'Obtain DNS server address automatically'.  It works with my wireless router, and I've never tried to change it.

[UPDATE 3]  After thinking I was safe, after doing several searches for updates, the returned 80246002 problem on my machine!  I rebooted my machine and my wireless router, but it did not help.  So, I advanced and tried the DNS thing: I changed the favorite 8.8.8.8 DNS server and another server DNS 8.8.4.4 and then rebooted.  Search on Windows Update is now successfully!  I am humbled and grateful!

In my case, I got the window update 80246002 error code after I uninstalled KB2982791 according to the https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/MS14-045 and then tried the updates.  I have nothing clears the error (ipconfig/flushdns, rename the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, a few MS Fix, etc...).  KB2993651 being the replacement update I was trying to download and install, I decided to manually download the update from the windows update (http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=KB2993651) catalog.  After you downloaded and installed KB2993651, I rebooted the PC and then I was able to check Windows updates again without entering the 80246002 error code.

  • The Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 is suspended

I'll have to re - install (to be clear, this must be a clean install!) Win 7 because I upgraded my processor (DUUH!). Then, of course, there are 6 years of updates to apply (DUBBLE DUUH!). In any case, after the first 25 or so (including SP1), the computer restarts and the next time I run the update of victory, it updates the agent update to 7.6.7600.320, closed, opens again and therefore, it crashes every time that the search for updates. I tried everything on line fix - it tools (2 or 3 they say they found things and that fixed it, but not true.) Their execution several times in a row gives the same merry messages - but ill -!) and even downloaded and installed Agent.256 manually, but once installe.320, something on the PC side of things is broken. Even the autonomous utils as "X 86 - all - Windows6. "1 kb2993651 - x86_a3d4402e414cd9ee28244c8ffbed52bf8d10f40d.msu" crashes (looking for updates on my PC) the same way. I tried the DNS fix, but the problem is local. Update impossible to find something he's looking for on my hard drive or RAM is missing a few "helper". Help! Thank you!

I had the same problem two nights ago, with agent.256 on Vista. I tried everything and nothing worked, I even restarted Vista from scratch, but the same problem was there, once the agent has been installed. All I can advise is to check for updates, it will finally find a set of updates for you. I found a post saying to leave so I did it and for me, it took more than 4 hours to find the updates for me, but once this set of updates have been installed it only took 5 minutes to an hour for updates to appear. It must be something to do with new agents and how they are in communication with Microsoft for the first time. They should really look into it well.

    Be patient and good luck!

  • Windows update fails after installation of windows update agent 7.6.7600.320

After you install this update, windows updates is stuck on "check for updates". I reinstalled Windows 7 and the same thing happens again. I tried to uninstall the update, but it does not appear on the list of installed updates, even if it is considered successful in the history of the update. Actually, there are 26 updates successfully in history, including service pack 1, but only 9 in the list of installed updates. Anyone know what is happening here? DM.

I used the fix tool, but not in the aggressive mode. I have not tried a reset because many of the reset of values seem to be for 32-bit machines.

Another version of Norton 360 (i.e., N360 2008) has already been installed on the computer?

A Norton or McAfee free trial come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it?

The FixIt and reset are the same thing. Open an instance of IE 32 bits (not IE 64-bit) for http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058, click the FixIt icon and choose Aggressive mode this time. • Need help with the Windows Update Agent 7.4.7600.226

I got the disc from Microsoft two days ago and I followed the instructions of the person I am in contact with.
I was told to make an upgrade without the key.
I saved all the photos and files.

  • Historic Windows Update displays do not correctly after installing problem updates 7.6.7600.256 for Windows Update Agent?

Had the problem on the 25/06 reboot after the installation of update 7.6.7600.256 for Windows Update Agent (required system restore).

This (with duplicates) and subsequent updates are shown as successful in the history of the update, but shows always date of "updates have been installed" on the home window Windows Update like 13/06/2012 (previous updates) and updates later only the fix (KB981889) shows as available in the Uninstall list.

How will I know if the Windows Agent Update and other subsequent updates installed correctly?

If the Update Agent update has not been installed correctly, is there a solution for this?

  • Windows Update Agent 7.6 stopped working and causes system late

    Hi all

Recently I installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on my Dell 15R N5010 laptop and the system has been updated through Windows Update, until you Win 7 Sp1. Then he installed Windows Update Agent 7.6 and once that Windows Update Service keep looking for updates to update but don't not downloading and installing anything. I followed several previous threads started by someone else with respect to the same type of problem, but none of them worked for me. As a result of these community discussions, I tried steps below so far and returned without success.

    • Re-installation of Windows 7 and this is updated until the system updates from Windows Update Agent 7.6
    • Troubleshooting Wizard connected control panel to detect and correct errors on Windows Update
    • A run the Microsoft FixIt tool that aims to repair and reset Windows Update
    • Downloaded and re-installed Windows Update Agent 7.6 from Microsoft Website
    • Made sfcscannow to check the integrity of the file system and ran chkdsk (as indicated in a particular thread)
    • Deleted the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution

I tried to install the modules such as Visual C++ by using the stand-alone Installer, but they are also not working, perhaps because of the problem in Windows Update.

Also, I found that the entire system is trolling when executing the update in the background Service, and from stopping the Service to update Windows from the Computer Management Console system begins to run normal.

I don't know if some of the above mentioned operations I've done are really there to solve the problem since I am not a tech guy, however I hope useful community here will help me to solve this problem.

    Thank you.

  • Windows Update error 80070005 - most likely caused by a Windows Update Agent 3.0 installation - how to solve?

I am running Windows 7 RTM and stupidly installed Windows Update Agent 3.0 (I forget why, it seemed a good idea at the time), but now I find that Windows Update does not work - whenever I try to check the updates, it will fail with error code 80070005

There seems to be no way to remove the Update Agent 3.0 install, despite the restoration of the system, I just found out that it was fixed at 0% of the disc, so I don't have any version of the work system to restore! :(

So, how can I resolve this situation, for example to delete Windows Update Agent 3.0 or otherwise restore the version of the Windows Update files I had before?

And why it does not work anyway? Is it installed... could there be a bug? Or it is fundamentally incompatible with Windows 7 and never should be installed in the first place? In which case can someone at MS please update agent Installer to avoid that it install on Windows 7, so that no one else suffers from the same problem?

Just came across the same thing. stumped for about an hour or two to the point where I was trying just anything. In the end I disabled

  • Does WSUS / Windows Update Agent reinstall updates not installed

I looked for an answer to this all morning and probably I am suffering from block of the researcher and cannot choose the right keywords, but I can't find the answer.

In our environment - Server 2003, WSUS 3.0, XP desktop computers - we have finally approved XP SP3 for client machines and had some problems and some a few machines requiring to uninstall SP3.  Is WSUS / Windows Update Agent try to reinstall the service pack again at the next scheduled update (detection as absent but approved), or he knows that he was already installed once and then uninstalled and do not try to install it again?

If this is the first, how can I let SP3 approved for the rest of the Organization and prevent its installation on machines that have yet to be addressed, short of creating a new ORGANIZATIONAL unit for them?

If it is the latter, how can I say get to install at a later date once we have addressed the issues?

  • I can't get updates since SP2 installation and update of the Windows Update Agent.

I have Vista Home Premium 64-bit.  I have done 3 installs clean for several days and each time I install SP2 and update the Windows Update Agent I can't get updates.  When I click search for updates, it just keeps looking for hours and hours and never stops looking.  I tried several solutions on the internet, including those found here.  Of course, the first thing I did was run the Fixit of Windows Update tool.  He could not solve any problems found.  He gave the error code 0 x 80070005.  I installed the SubInAcl.exe and run several different command text and a text of the batch.  The batch text did nothing.  The texts of order had errors of syntax and a file, he could not access.  I ran the System File Checker, and it finds errors, it could not fix.  I just did a clean install on this machine 6 or 8 months ago because I was going to get rid of the computer, so when I put in place I used the username user.  I came across no problem at all when I installed the operating system and update everything.  Since then, I decided to keep the computer, so I wanted to have it in my name.  As I said, this is my 3rd try.  I am willing to give.  Maybe someone here can help.

I tried two clean installs and I get the same thing.  Once I have installed SP2 and the new Agent update, I can't get more updates.  It keeps only the search for hours without results or error messages.  I tried all of the suggestions I found on the internet, but nothing works.  I get always the same error code 0x80070005, when I run the Fixit of Windows Update tool.  There must be a way to solve this problem.  Why I was able to do a clean install of 6 or 8 months without any problems, but now I can't.  It makes no sense at all.  I really hope someone who knows the answer reads this.

    Ralph C.

I finally got it!  I tried two other proposed solutions, then I ran the System File Checker, which is no problem, then I ran Check Disk.  Check disk found and repaired files in the file system of BITS among others.  After that, I'm now completely up to date with Windows Update.  I was ready to give up.  I'm glad I did not.  For anyone else having similar problems, don't give up, the answer is there.

    Ralph C.
