Thanks again for the you´re time

    Hey Dalton,.

I moved your reply to a new thread as this is a new error code.

Error code 0 x 80070424 you describe also means "ERROR_SERVICE_DOES_NOT_EXIST".  Windows Update depends on the following two services:

    (1) Windows Update
    (2) background Intelligent Transfer (BIT)

If it turns out that these services are disabled or missing, you will encounter this error code.  Therefore, you will need to ensure that the necessary services are available and running.  Here's how:

    1. click on Start, type services.msc in the Search text box, and then click services.msc in the list programs. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click continue.

    2. double-click on Background Intelligent Transfer Service.

    3. If the starting state lists Stopped, click Start , and then click OK.

    4. double-click on Windows Update.

    5. If the starting state lists Stopped, click Start , and then click OK.

    6. double-click on my computer.

    7. If the starting state lists Stopped, click Start , and then click OK.

    8. close the Services window and try to install the updates again.

If the Background Intelligent Transfer Service does not appear in the list of Services, click the following link to view the article on the Microsoft web site and download the update: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939159/en-us.

(Provide the administrator password or a confirmation if prompted to do so.)
Right-click the Windows Update service and click on stop.

Try to gain WU and see if the update in question downloads and installs.

  • Windows Vista - Error Code: Windows Update encountered an unknown error

When you use Windows Update on my computer the program informs me that there is an important update for my computer.  After clicking on the "install updates" button
    After that, he says:

Microsoft. NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 update for Windows.

Then he informed me that the updates were not installed and comes up with:

This can be the long way - about doing it, but it worked for me and all my Windows updates are installed without problem!

    Step 1 a) download "dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip" from: https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=27e6a35d1a492af7&id=27E6A35D1A492AF7%21390

Step 1b) download "Piriform CCleaner" from: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard

Step 1 c) create a file batch and place the following content between the - in the program:

    ---

    off @echo

    CLS

    net stop wuauserv
    CD /d % windir %
    RD/q/s C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
    net start wuauserv
    ---

    This program will be:

    (A) stop the Windows Update Service

    (B) clear the Windows Update Cache

    (C) restart the Windows Update Service

Step 2) run the "dotnetfx_cleanup_tool" and select (.NET Framework - Versions) and select "Cleanup Now". This will remove all the facilities of the .net Framework.

Step 3a) install and run "CCleaner". Use the registry cleaner to remove all residual traces of .net Framework from the system registry.

Step 3b) use the "cleaner" to remove Windows additional cached files.

Step 4) run the batch program you created using the orders listed above.

Step 5) run Windows Update and reinstall .net Framework (and its updates).

I strongly suggest you allow updates Windows select the .net Framework order must be installed. Change this order may cause additional problems.

    Good luck to all!

Now for a month when I do my windows update I discconected on the net. the next day is starting to work again, and then I do the windows update, it disconnects again. I can't see also "NETWORK ADAPTER" in Device Manager. I tried to update the drivers of Gigabyte.com but does not seem to do anything. For more information, I used McAfee earlier too, but now I switched to Norton Anti Virus. Will this be causing a problem?

This seems to be a problem with the modem DSL or ISP.
Try to stop the DSL modem for 10 minutes and try to check if Internet works fine. Also contact you ISP to verify what they say about it.

    Hi johnhayes003,

    1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    2. You receive an error message when you install the update?
    3. You are able to install some other updates on the computer?
    4. You have security software installed on the computer?

    Method 1

I suggest that reset you Windows Update for default components and try to install the update, check if it installs properly.

How to reset the Windows Update components?

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058

    Method 2

If the previous step fails then I would suggest that you manually download and install the update.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=27715

If the previous step fails then I would suggest see you the update history for the complete error message related to the failure of the update and post back with the details.

    (a) open Windows Update by clicking Start , all programsand then click Windows Update.

    (b) in the left pane, click view update history.
