  You will need repair Windows.

  To do a repair installation, you will need your product key and the Windows Vista DVD. You can also create a backup just to be sure.

  Insert the DVD in your drive, the installer must come, click on install, then choose to upgrade and NOT personalized, follow the prompts. You must reinstall updates after doing this.

  Since it is a Dell computer, chances are a Norton or McAfee free trial is preinstalled. When you have done the clean install, the free trialware would have ALSO reinstalled (but not valid now).  Let's see if the execution of two removal tools & a few tweaks resolves the behavior.

• 800b0100 Code was published after a Windows Update failed... help!

  Often this error code appears when the Windows update fails... it does more often than otherwise.  The Windows Update is marked as "Important", but if it fails most of the time, I just wonder HOW important it is... Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
