Windows update reset my settings?

Never had happened before... After that the latest version of windows update, I started my computer as I usually do... and when I logged on to windows, all my settings has been reset to 800 x 600 resolution (which is all my icons in a colossal mess on the desktop), the color and lightning also changed. Now, that I can handle it, but I also noticed that now I can not play videos! It seems that the video is lagging behind; the image is moving slowly, while the audio is no problem. The quality of the video is also a bit down. (tried WMP and VLC)
I did a system restore, but that did not help me. No error message or something similar.

What exactly happened in the last windows update? : S

It seems that you have a file or a driver that is corrupt. Sometimes the file or drive may be hit if she isn't bad corrupt. I suggest that you BACK UP all your data. Here are some things you can try CHECKDISK, SFC SCAN, and ChecKSUR.

I seem to have problems with my windows update. Last week when I checked to see if updates were needed that I was unable to view them because he said that "some settings are managed by your system administrator" who won't let me change the settings and the display of updates. It's my own personal computer so I am the administrator. However, this week update windows begins to function normally because there was an update available and I managed to download it, but a few days later, the windows on the screen update returned to say that "some settings are managed by your system administrator. I did a scan for spyware/adware/virus recently and I had only a low risk of adware that was detected and deleted without modification with windows update. This problem started right after that I got a warranty of software installed by Dell, I don't know if what they did could cause the problem. The system I use is Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Previously, McAfee SecurityCenter has been installed on my pc, but it has been replaced by McAfee Total Protectiononce the subscription has expired. [It isunderlining] I remember getting a Norton trial software installed at a given moment, but this has been removed to make room for software McAfee, to ensure that there is no conflict between the programs.

You should have installed McAfee Total Protection before as your McAfee Security Center subscription expires. If you're lucky, the following may solve your problem:

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

I does not pay attention to the icon of update of Windows and in about a minute or two my screen erased and then in a phase 3 update of Windows. When the updated, the Word document is returned to the screen. The program was closed as I was transferring information by Windows I assume that the work has been lost. Anyway now when I open my Word 2007 I get a program not responding do not error. I have the installation for Office CD, but I don't know if that will fix the problem as it will be the same word that no longer works. I really think that Microsoft should not perform these updates in this way because he would have been the same if I had steeped in my PC and left the open note. Everyone should have the last word when their computer is being updated. After all, it's a mine not Microsoft or any other software company. It is not just great for trying to get into a program they made trash and will not open. Someone at - it solutions that they can suggest to solve my problem.

    Hello Jim Morecraft,.

Thank you for using Microsoft Vista answers Forum!

I understand your frustration regarding this issue; I will do my best to put your PC to work again. Since the issue you described in your post, said after Windows update, I would recommend that we start with the help of the System Restore tool to restore the computer to an earlier point in time before this problem started. The tool using System Restore may not necessarily help you determine the problem. When you use system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, the programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, type System Restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    2. in the System Restore dialog box, click choose a different restore point, and then click on Next.

    3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.

    4. click on finish.

    5. the computer restarts and system files and settings are back to the State they were in when the restore point was created.

Second, you can configure Windows update to where you decide whether to perform the update or not.

If it is a problem of update, the best way to solve this problem is to apply only updates one at a time to determine which updates is causing this problem.

Click on Start -> all programs -> Windows Update, click change settings in the left menu. Select download updates but let me choose whether to install them, click OK. When you are alerted to install a new update, this window, click on view available updates, uncheck all updates and select one at a time, install it, restart your computer, test and update. Once you find the update either continue to ignore it, or look for it at http://support.microsoft.com/

You can also post back with update KB number, you are having problems with.

If please reply and let us know if your problem is resolved or if you need further assistance.

    All the best...!

Control Panel - Windows Updates - upper left settings - set to download but allow you to install them.

OK, finally finding the time to update everyone how I could solve the problem with KB3110329 not install it.

The bat file removes all of the Windows Update history, restores a number of elements of the BONE and who cleared up the situation. I ran Windows update again, and KB3110329 has been listed as an update available and installed fine with required reboot.

History Windows Update to the previous address is no longer available, but my Windows 7 is completely up-to-date. Thanks, Sumit Dhiman2 !

  • "Security Essentials" automatically updated, "Windows Update" does not work?

    Hello:

I bought a Dell again last month pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit).

Immediately, I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials (after having removed via Control Panel, a trial version of McAfee, I believe that it is, that I never activated/enabled) to use as my Security Suite.

According to my 'View Update History', Microsoft Security Essentials updates automatically every day.

"Windows Update" itself, however, does not work.

However, the original being in place by default settings, that is, "install updates automatically" is checked.

When I finally noticed this and tried to manually check for updates, I kept getting the dreaded error code "server is busy".  That lasted several hours.  When I was finally able to connect, I received a long list of updates for download/install.  However, when I tried to do, several "Failed" (according to 'View Update History'), which some marked "important".  Further, when I manually check for updates again, these updates to the 'fail' don't reappear, so I don't know how to get them.

More importantly, I don't understand why "Microsoft Security Essentials" updated automatically and daily and without problem, so that 'Windows Updates', although updated automatically, does not?

True, my computer is off at 03:00 (the default update time), but I understand that the update should occur (to delay) the next time the computer is turned on.

I have read many of the questions and answers here and tried most of what was suggested - for example:

-My internet connection works of course very well.
-I have no 'Proxy Server '.
-J' ran 'TDSSKiller' and there was no threat found.
-J' have also run Microsoft 'Fix Tool", which shows that something has been fixed, but it has no effect.  And whenever I run it, it 'fixed' apparently the same thing.  Without result.

I ran Windows Update again manually before posting here and it seems to have worked very well, but why doesn't it work automatically?

    Thank you

    Five

If all were fine with your computer:

    Hi guys,.

I had problems with a computer laptop lenovo so I did a reset of the system, and he started from scratch. Everything was going well until I tried to run updates about 20 have installed, but there is an another 80 that used.

When I try to download it says installation failed and when I restart the laptop he tried to confirgure updates and fails.

In addition to this he is originally an error with the tile apps that I said install windows 8.1 but you click on the ad of tile, nothing happens but other applications seem to be good and they are all updated as expected. Or sometimes you click on the tile of the app and it remains on the green screen with the circle past throughout but did not go forward.

I tried making sure that I am the administrator and nothing, Ive even did the output of sfc scan that reveals no problems but whe I official microsoft windows update troubleshooting, it says non-fixed recent updates installation problems, repair of Windows Update services and dependencies and it mentions the release of the sfc , but I already have the CFS scannow and there is no problem.

The only thing that happened with the most recent is that it took forever kept retrying until it failed and came back finally my system load upward, but strangely without saying that he has 3 updates appear to have installed because there is now only 77 I just can not understand.
