Windows XP creating unwanted shortcuts

I use Windows XP on my pc and I have problems with My Documents. Whenever I have open a file in the folder, or even access to a subfolder, windows automatically creates a functioning entirely shortcut to this file or subfolder in the My Documents. I have no idea why it does this or how to stop it. That everybody knows or has any idea how to stop it?

Thank you.

Hi Martyn,

This problem could be caused due to any virus infected your computer.

I suggest to follow the steps below and we update on the State of the question.

Step 1:

I suggest you to perform Safe Mode from the link below:

A description of the start in Windows XP Mode options:

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315222

Note: Retrieve the computer in Normal mode after you follow the steps above.

Step 2:

Scan your computer by using the Microsoft Safety Scanner by clicking Download now to check if there is no virus infected:

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

  • Are there ways to create keyboard shortcuts in Windows Explorer?

    Hello

    My OS features:

    Windows XP

    Professional

    Version 2002

    Service Pack 3

So I do not know when Microsoft has implemented it (maybe?), but I was looking for a way to create a combination of shortcut keys which would act as the 'Alt + arrow up' in the newer versions of Windows...

If your are unsure what I mean (explanation below):

In more recent versions of Windows, for example, when you use Windows Explorer or when you're on IE and that you want to save a file using the "Save AS" function to 'Browse' to a place, you can use the combination of 'Alt + arrow up' key to go back one level in the current window/folder.

I know, in Windows XP Explorer, there is a button on the "Standard toolbar" makes this exact function, but it's so much more convenient to use the keyboard shortcut to do this.

Does anyone know if a way that I could implement this in Windows XP?

    Thanks in advance,

    Matt

    Hi Matt,

Here are the keyboard shortcuts which works for Windows XP. You cannot customize the shortcut, as is the design of the operating system.

    Hello

    To create a custom toolbar.

    1. create a new folder under your user name folders. Place all shortcuts in this folder that you want to appear on the new toolbar.

    2. right click on the taskbar, then select Toolbars / new toolbar.

    3. navigate to the new folder that you created and select it. Click on the button to select a folder.

The new toolbar will be placed on the taskbar.

If I could remember how I created the shortcut to the desktop in XP Pro I could figure out how do it again to 7, but which is perhaps where I'm stuck - I don't remember. The only thing that has

    Hey John,

Another user with the same problem reported success in repairing the file association for its types of LNK files.  To do this test, go to the following Web page.  Scroll down (to half way down the page) to find and click on the link for LNK.  Open the file that downloads and run the registry script and see if it solves the problem:

    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html

Alternatively, you can try the system restore to roll 'back' in time to 48 hours.  This restoration will cancel the changes made to the system files and the registry changes, but will not affect of your personal files, emails, photos, documents or anything else.  The restoration of takes about 2 minutes and you can cancel it (or choose another date to return in time for) if he does ' t solve the problem.

    Then he called Test.

It seems even easier that I remember XP.   For example do a right click of my new Test shortened reminds the complexity that someone just starting to create a shortcut could face.

  • How to create a shortcut icons in windows XP Home Edition of 2002 for starting the comp.

I'm just learning how to move things on this computer. I am looking for step by step instructions how to create a shortcut icons posted on my desktopp for fast entry to various installed programs and the desired Web sites. Can you help / teach me how to - thanks.

If you have a program in the start menu. All programs, (some other places as well), just: right-click | Send to | Desktop (create shortcut).

For a Web site, save in my favorites first. Then, just left-click on it and drag it to the desktop or the taskbar.

  • Cannot resize firefox so I can drag and drop to create a shortcut

I can't make my Firefox page smaller so I can drag and drop a web site to create a shortcut. I use windows 7. I have no flu when I point at the bottom right. When I use zoom the page itself re sizes but not the window. I just need to see a bit of my office, so I can create a shortcut.

Hi limomitch, Firefox will remember the last 'normal' window size by saving in this file you deleted (which Firefox creates new). To switch between the normal and maximized window styles, you usually just double-click the title bar of the window, or you can use the middle (the one between minimize and close) button in the upper right corner.

If you find that the 'normal' window size has increased too, and if the lower right corner is not visible, you can try Alt + SPACEBAR. It is a convention of Windows on the scale to display the window control menu. If the size is not gray, press arrow down once, then the up arrow key repeatedly until the lower edge of the window is in view. Repeat with the left if necessary and right keys. (If the size is dimmed, choose restore and that might be all you need).
