Wireless network cannot be identified when it is password protected

Hello

I have an Airport Express (Apple wireless network device). I have problems to connect to the network without wire this device. Here is some important info:

  1. I can connect to other networks wireless without problem, no difficulty.
  2. I have a little knowledge about networks, but this issue is extraordinary to me. I can say that this is not a DNS problem or some failure of base. The device receives the internet with an ethernet cable RJ 45 and do stream via a wireless network.
  3. A mac computer can connect this unit and get the internet.
  4. My pc (vista) can connect to the network,
  • BUT cannot identify the network if it is protected with WPA/WPA2 or WEP... etc even if I type the password correctly. In this case bytes are sent, but no byte is received.
  • AND can identify the network if there is no password protection. (No guarantee)

I don't think the problem is, it's vista. The device is supposed to run windows as well. And I tried with and without active firewall. They have really no effect on this issue. Why my pc cannot identify the network?

PS: (in these circumstances) (we get a correct IP as well!) (the unit is in bridged mode)

Any ideas or help is really appreciated :)

I fixed it with a driver update. But I still don't understand. He worked with other networks without any problem... Thank you all!

  • Wireless network does not work when I put a password

Well actually, I use a wireless network at home, and when I try to put a password, it won't let me connect to the internet, but my xbox connect when there is a password there and other laptops don't. When I try to connect by using a non-secure network it connects to the internet, but on any other laptop but mine it asks me to set up the connection, while on my laptop, it goes straight to a connection.

If you guys can offer me a solution to this problem, I would be very grateful

    Hi Sh4dow,

You can check out the following link and check if it helps:

    View your preferred wireless networks

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/view-your-preferred-wireless-networks

You can also temporarily disable the security software and firewall installed on the system and check if the problem persists. If this resolves the problem, then you may need to update or change the settings of the security software.

Note: Be sure to enable the security software on the computer after checking.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Wireless network cannot connect after sleep (X 200 tablet, win7)

    Hi all

I've seen similar problems like this asked several times, but they have rarely been resolved and not by any means that I have not already tried, therefore this is.

Immediately after starting, my wireless card works fine.  After that I put my computer to sleep then wake up, however, the wireless network adapter seems to fail.  It still detects networks, but when I try to log in, it takes a long time to connect, then says he can't.  If I wait a bit and try again, the same thing happens.

This can be solved temporarily by one of these three methods:

    1 restart the computer.

2 troubleshooting wireless network card (it resets the adapter each time and then it works).

    3. go to network and sharing Center-> adapter settings-> turn off, then turn on the wireless card.

This problem is reproducible on EVERY sleep and on ANY wireless network (i.e. it is not a router problem).

Solutions proposed that I already tried:

    1 reinstall/restore/update driver software.

    2. change the settings for the network adapter power management to not allow the computer to turn off the device to save energy.

    3. change the power management not to go in network adapter power saving mode.

Entails disadvantages because I often need to turn my computer on sleep and access to the internet, and disabling + to reactivate the wireless network card takes time.  If someone managed to overcome a similar problem?

    Thank you.

    Hey ez910503,

You can try to uninstall the software of dial-up connection and wireless drivers.

Let windows install its generic wifi drivers and try again.

curious to know what is the current version of the driver that you are using for your wifi card?

  • Wireless network breaks down Internet when transferring over network

I about gave up on that, but maybe someone can help.

I have Windows 7, my wife's computer has Windows Vista

There are also other computers on the network in the back using 7 and XP I think, but they are not involved in this problem directly.

My wife uses version 2 of Linksys Wireless USB adapter.  My HP is a built-in wireless adapter to the and I can't check from here, but I think that the problem is caused by his computer (or some sort of incompatibility between his and the router is a Linksys wrt54g)

in any case, the problem occurs when you try to transfer files between two computers (normally mine to his).  It's quite slow with only 1 meg / minute such as displayed by the dialog box, and it blocks the internet completely.  As soon as transfer us what it is, it just seems to kill the network.  We can download and surfing the internet but the computer to another, it just seems to die.  Now I think that I transferred to other computers (when my mother was visiting with his laptop) without problem, but with my wife of vista computer, it just dies.

Clues as to why this happens?

    Hello

It seems that something is wrong with your network topology.

If the router restarts and he doesn't back the Modem connection, I doubt that it is caused by computers.

What model of Modem you have and how the router WAN port keeps Internet active.

Ensure that your Modem is a Modem only, or it is a Modem/Router, so using a second router you create double route that destabilize the network.

BTW, if it was my system the first thing I will do is put temp computers next to the router and cable connection.

If there is a difference in behavior between the solid wire connection and USB wireless (whose rather fragile for heavy network works at first), I know better where I am.

  • On my old computer wireless network connection disappeared. When I try to update or roll back, nothing happens.

I just wrote all of the above details in the section title - I can connect to the internet with an ethernet cable, but not with my wireless connection (e.g. in McDonald's restaurants). I bought a new computer with Windows 7 and installed a dlink on this wireless router.  It is then the connection Wireless on my old laptop family disappeared.

It is not entirely because think that the hardware is failing.  ;-)

It seems as if you have uninstalled the Intel wireless controls in Add or remove programs and the wired connection disappeared, can you have uninstalled something else than just wireless stuff.

This laptop has the Wired Intel Pro/100 VE network adapter - easy enough to uninstall something inadvertently to another 'Intel '. ;-)  (The link for this driver is included here).

A reboot is almost always useful in this kind of situation (for high-end server, router, firewall, etc., diagnosis, it is NOT recommended, however).

  • Using Zyxel wireless network configuration

Using Panel to have Windows configure my system to use a wireless connection to internet via Zyxel USB. Using Windows options, network, Network Setup and configuration of wireless network connection me don't upset none the case. I understand there is a way that Windows will automatically connect. I need to update my Windows? I would like assistance. Bill

    Thanks for the information.

No, you don't need an update.

I do not understand your answer to no. 5, in particular "the material was not recognized by Windows, it requires a manual boot without Windows manages the connection of the device to the router."

In Windows, there are basically two ways that a wireless adapter can be controlled.  Windows can control the unit by using a feature called 'Wireless Zero Configuration' or a utility provided by the manufacturer of the card.  As a general rule, you want one or the other - not both active at the same time.

If the icon you are referencing is a 'Z' in a box (http://tinyurl.com/cjn3mje), then the Zyxel utility is in charge.   Which is perfectly OK (and probably provides more features than Windows WZC), but I'm not familiar with the details of using the Zyxel utility.  If you identify the model of your adapter, I can see if I can find his online user manual, and explain the steps you need to take

If you use the Zyxel or Windows WZC utility, you must take the basic steps are the same:

    1. search for available wireless networks.
    2. identify your network in the list that is displayed (this is your SSID or 'Network name')
    3. click on "sign in".
    4. Enter the encryption password when you are prompted.

Did you do the above?  That's happened?

    Additional information:

Windows WZC automatically saves the connection (SSID and password) information once you connect successfully.  I don't know if the Zyxel utility done automatically or if you explicitly save a 'profile' with the data.

Any utility that you use, you must know the SSID of your router and the password for the encryption.  Verizon technology that installed your router should provide you with this information.  It can also be written on a label on the bottom of the router.

If you do not have - or lost - this information, you can find it by connecting to the router.  Preferably, you should do this using an Ethernet cable - assuming you can get your computer back close enough to the router.  You will need to know the name of user and password to connect to the router.  Again, Verizon technology would have to provide this information for you.

As far as I can determine '20.10.7' is the revision number of the firmware of your router.  I believe - but am not sure - that the user guide is here--> http://www.actiontec.com/support/doc_files/MI424WR_Rev._E&F_User_Manual_20.10.7_v1_GPL.pdf

  • Help us to extend my wireless network!

    Hello world

After reading a lot of Web pages on this topic and get very confused, I thought that post id here.

I replaced my old separate modem and router yesterday for a Linksys WAG160N. All in all, im very happy with it

Basically, my neighbor is pay their ISP a fortune and hardly uses internet at all. Ive offered for them to share mine (both to provide a total consent, im not doing something questionable!) that I have a very large download quota and this would save their money.

Now the 2 houses are separated by an alley, but the distance between the router and the computer is about 6 m. Strangely, my WAG160N is not carried as far as my wireless network does not appear when they in their House on their laptop!

So after reading about bridges wireless / wireless Extender range and all sorts of things im now very confused.

I'm looking for essentially the most cost-effective way to extend the signal of my WAG160N, possibly through a second router in my garage) to allow the neighbor get a good signal. I cannot reposition my router/modem from its current location and also unable to connect a second router by an ethernet cable, do wireless.

So, is there a way I can connect my WAG160N wireless to another wireless router in order to extend my signal for my neighbor to use?

I was watching the Netgear WN2000RPT and the WRT160N that someone else had previous success with using it as a Repeater.

Thanks for reading! I can't wait to hear any suggestions

UPDATE: Connecting 2 routers with a 10 m ethernet cable works. Is it possible to eliminate the use of this cable?

  • Why wireless adapter cannot establish an internet connection in Windows 7?

I work in a small office environment. I am trying to connect to a desktop computer to a network using D - Link DWA - 132 adepter wireless WiFi. Adepter installation succeeded. It perfectly demonstrates that the wireless network is available. When I am trying to connect to the internet after giving the password. Once there is a yellow triangle with a sign of Exclamation (!) it appears on the network icon in the bar spots. And it is not connected! I tried to ping google, yahoo etc, but not a single packet is transmitted!

Moreover, when I checked the list of devices connected in the Netgear WiFi router configuration panel, the PC was in the list, even assigned with an IP address!

Please help someone. I need solve this ASAP. Thanks in advance.

  • Wireless network connection

I am an employee of Life Insurance Corporation of India. When I turn on my PC in the office premises, a connection named "dlink" appears in my PC. After the connection (without using any modem or external device) I can browse the internet. How is that possible? The brief description of the connection is the following:

    Wireless network connection

    Connectivity: Internet IPv4

    Name: dlink

    Strength: good signal/fair/poor

    Security type: unsecured

    Radio type: 802.11n

    SSID:Dlink

Should I access the internet by connecting through this link? Y at - it all threat to the security of my personal information or whether it's bad for me. Please notify. The link also shows a message that "the information transmitted by means of this link can be visible to others". Please specify.

    Hi SANJIT_78,

    ·         The computer is connected to a domain environment?

    ·         Are you facing any performance issue with wireless network connection?

    ·         What operating system is installed on the computer?

The computer you are using apparently have a wireless network interface installed in it and therefore can detect and connect to any available wireless network. The dlink network is the name of a wireless network available in your area and your computer to connect to this wireless network.

Wireless networks more private need a password to connect to them and therefore are protected. But the dlink network to which you are connecting is apparently a public wireless network, and it doesn't have a password to connect to it. So which allows any user to connect their devices to this network wireless. Due to this insecure wireless network mode, your computer displays you the message "the information transmitted through this link may be visible to others". If you want to connect to this wireless network, I suggest you first protect your computer with a good program antivirus and firewall.

To enable the Windows Firewall on your computer, you can check this link:

  • Message error "parameter is Incorrect" when powering down wide network of password protected sharing

In the network and sharing Center, when I click on the arrow to option sharing protected by password, select turn off password protected sharing and click on apply, I get an error message saying "the parameter is Incorrect."  In fact, I would keep the Division password protected, but my son is trying to use a printer that is hard, connected to my computer via the wireless network and enter my user name and password.  It also has Vista.  I check the box saying to remember the password on her computer, but it does not work. Whenever he stops his laptop computer and restarts, then try to print, enter my user name and password again!  I need to get Vista to work on one of these computers!

    Hello anderfam,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Community Forum.

    (1) make sure that the file and printer sharing is enabled.
    (2) If you are using a computer connected to a "working group", click on the arrow next to password protected sharing to expand this section.  Check if password protected sharing is enabled or disabled.

If the password sharing is enabled, only people with a user account and password for this computer will be able to access your printer. Disable this option if you want anyone on the network can access the printer you share unless you give then a user account and password.

    Printer sharing:
    ------------------

To share the printer, configure the printer as a shared printer on the server or the host (the computer connected to the printer).
Make sure that you install the printer driver on each client or the system remote (computers other than the server).
It is preferable to obtain the most recent driver of your Web site.
Also check that the printer is compatible with Windows XP and Windows Vista.

If Windows XP Professional Edition is the host:

    1. open the Printers window.
    2. click the right button on your printer list, and then select "Sharing" in the menu that appears.
    3. Select 'Share this printer', type a share name for the printer and click on 'OK '. Take note of this name as it will be used later.

When Windows Vista is the client:
    Install the printer driver
Use a driver downloaded from the manufacturer's site to install the printer

    1. If you use the downloaded driver, double-click the downloaded file, then click on 'run '. The file will then be extracted and start the driver installation.
2 follow the prompts and continue with the installation until you reach the Setup completed screen appears.
    3. on this screen, check the "Select" printer port box, and then click on the manual button 'Selection '.
    4. Select "" LPT1: port local printer ' and click on 'OK', then click 'Finish'. "
    5. in the Printers window, right-click the printer icon and select 'Properties' (access to the Printers window)
    6. click on the tab "Ports", and then click 'Add Port '.
    7. Select "Local Port" and click "new port" button.
    8. Enter the name of the port using the XP computer name and the name of the printer in the \\ComputerName\PrinterName form and then click 'OK '. Close the Port name window.
    9. click on 'Close' in the Printer Ports window.
    10. the new port poster now as being selected. Click "close".
    11. click on "Install driver" If the following window appears. You are now ready to print.

Another thing is to make sure that if the firewall windows is that there is an exception specified for sharing files and printing.
Make sure that all the computers are on the same workgroup. By default, XP machines are set to "MSHOME" while Vista machines are set to "WORKGROUP". They should both say WORKGROUP.

If please reply back and let us know if these measures have helped to solve your problem or if you need further assistance. We will be happy to help you.

  • Why are these networks 0033, livedoor-web, mobilepoint shows on my wireless network connection

Why are these networks 0033, livedoor-web, mobilepoint shows on my wireless network connection? At Microsoft this downloaded without my knowledge in my laptop in the network connection and the internet? Are these safe to use and that they cause to slow down the internet connection?

Your wireless network card is just a receiver (transmitter).  As for a 'normal' radio on which you are listening to music, news, sports, etc., your wireless network card will 'listen' to any nearby wireless network and provide you with a list of these networks:

Wireless networks that do not require a security password appear with the icon of the shield, as the "linksys" network in the figure above.

In general, you should only connect to networks that you know are secure: your own, networks that you know the password, or maybe a public network such as those provided by restaurants and other commercial establishments.

None of the networks that list you are likely to be public networks.  You will not be able to connect (because you do not know the password) or you should not connect because they might be dangerous.
