WLC high Availbility SKU

Hello!

My company has purchased two Cisco WLC 5508. One of them is AIR-CT5508-100-K9 (100 AP license) and the other is AIR-CT5508-HA-K9 (high availability).

I have read around in the data sheet and forums and tried to understand what is AIR-CT5508-HA-K9 all around. So far I have cam to the conclusion that this model (AIR-CT5508-HA-K9) is material authorized for HA, but still confused about his concept.

  1. Is possible to use this AIR-CT5508-HA-K9 as a stand-alone controller or its functionality only means for high availability?
  2. What does HA SKU?
  3. If you have two WLC AIR-CT5508-100-K9 they used to be able to put them in HA mode? or, you should have the AIR-CT5508-HA-K9 to deploy HA?

This is for now, thanks in advance!

The AIR-CT5508-HA-K9 is designed for high availability.  You have to put up with a 5508 under license, that you already have.

  1. Is possible to use this AIR-CT5508-HA-K9 as a stand-alone controller or its functionality only means for high availability?  No, the purpose of this reference of product is for authentication ONLY or N + 1
  2. What does HA SKU?  HA sku is for high avaialability and does not require a license
  3. If you have two WLC AIR-CT5508-100-K9 they used to be able to put them in HA mode? or, you should have the AIR-CT5508-HA-K9 to deploy HA?  You can configure SSO if you have at least a controller with a minimum of 50 licenses of ap.  If you have a controller of SKUs HA, you can do SSO or N + 1.  If you want to have access on both controllers points, then you should of bought two certified controllers.

  • Deployment of WLC 5508

    Hi all

We currently have 40 AP in stand-alone mode, we will add a controller in our architecture to improve coverage and implement a policy for authentication with AD.

I created a test lab simple with a light mode access point and authentication is fine with a radius server (using web authentication, 802. 1 x).

Now, in the case the WLC breaks down, I want that the process does not stop and data continue to go through the AP.

After reading some cisco documents, I find the "Flexconnect' which is a solution to configure and control the APs in a branch or Office remotely from Headquarters through a WAN link without the deployment of a controller in each office.

Can I use this mode in our internal office? Knowing that the goal is to avoid the centralization of traffic on the wlc.

If this mode is not the best could you suggest another please?

    Thanks in advance

Yes, you can use FlexConnect mode if you wish. It is an alternative when you have a single WLC. Maybe you should check what a HA 5508 WLC sku. So HA sku WLC does not require license so it's cheaper and a good alternative to dismissal. Only, you will need to purchase licenses for your existing WLC and the sku HA WLC can save up to the number max of ap for the device which is 500.

In the meantime, FlexConnect can work for you, it's just that there are a few limitations to FlexConnect is the PA were in local mode. You can find this article in the doc that you were referencing.

  • WLC 5508 high availability

    Hello

Today I have two WLC 5508 (with license for 100 AP each of them), on a single site.

    The WLC work availability (active-standby).

However, we have a new scenario, with 02 sites: A and B (attachment).

I would like to know if it is possible to work as follows:

The WLC - A as the main controller of site A. WLC - B as a backup (BDC) of WLC.-a.

The WLC - B that has the PDC site B. WLC - as a backup (BDC) to WLC - B.

    For example:

If WLC - a falls, site access Points are managed by B WLC site - B and vice versa.

    Is this possible?

How can I configure the new scenario? Don't forget, there is a site-to-site between Site A and Site b.

    Another point:

If I add more than 50 APs on Site A. How does the license number?

Should I buy a license for the two WLC?

    TKS,

    >....

    >.. .is it possible?

No. , high availability in terms of controller is supposed to be what is said, the backup controller is not 'full' - stby and cannot play other roles.

At the moment we have just a WLC 5508 anchor mode. What do I have to configure high availability of the ANCHOR.

    Thank you very much!!!

You have redundant WLC as anchor points, but if an anchor fails, the user must reconnect.

There is a feature on the WLC HA, but it is mainly for foreigners redundancy WLC anchor no redundancy. With guest several anchors overseas WLC balance the load between the two. You will not be able to put a primary or backup.

  • WLC 4404 and high availability

If I have 2 WLC 4404 are supported 100 Access Points for one and I installed 110 Access Point, I can you decide when a WLC down who are the 10 Access Point which must lie down?

    Thanks for your help

    fcostalunga

    Let me understand your question.

You have two WLC and can support 100 AP. You have 110 APs. If one of the WLC must go down, how you can configure or say which 10 AP will not be able to join?

If this is your question, here are some solutions I can think.

    1. H-HARVEST. If you enable REAP H to your AP, when one or ALL of your WLCs must go down, the AP will be able to operate as if the WLC has increased. The exception-to-the-rule is to NOT reload the AP and it should be good.

    2. you can configure, CLI only, 100 AP s primary and secondary controller. 10 AP will no config, so they will go into "limbo".

    I hope this helps.

    Hello

    1. It is a model of HA - SKU (secondary) license?
    2. Or do you have at least 50 AP secondary license to WLC?

If you have any of the above then go through this guide:

  • WLC existing 8510, switch mode with additional 8510-HA new HA SSO

    Hello

I have a stand-alone WLC 8510 running 8.0.100 and the need to turn it into a pair of SSO HA (high availability) with a new 8510-HA (SKU HA shows its designed to be a standby WLC)

The existing WLC is loaded with APs and I need to add the new WLC and configure SSO HA without interruption of service. I read about this and the documentation is not clear as to the best approach.

Can I preconfigure the new 8510-HA with its service port IP, IP and redundancy of peer IP redundancy and just connect the uplinks on the heart and the port of redundancy to the port of redundancy of 8510 without problem/shut down the existing system? (ensure the redundancy mode is still independent existing 8510)  Then when I get a window of change, I will then configure existing redundancy 8510 and 2 synchronize upward without reset it primary. Am I wrong? Or change of redundancy will introduce two 8510 refills?

Or y at - it a better method? and it's documented anywhere?

    Thanks for the tips!

  • WLC 5508 joined connected vs status

    Hello

What is the difference between the status of 'Joint' and 'Connected' AP on the controller of Cisco 5508 wireless in HA configuration?

I have two WLC 5508 in HA configuration. October 3 the controller switchovered with reason "Active controller failed" (attached file 1). I tried to understand why the controller has failed, but I did not find the reason.

Now, there are a lot of AP (not all) in the 'connected' State, not 'Supported in status' (attached file 2).

What is the meaning? and why in the details ' AP join stats ' (attachment 3 and 4) tha AP are well attached status? It's a licensing issue? I can solve this problem with a manual failover to main controller?

    Thank you for the help

You have a license for 250 AP on your primary controller and the secondary is a SKU or has at least 50 AP license to act like a HA.

As long as the main unit is available for the secondary unit (active) it will not perform the countdown. 90 days don't apply if the main unit is unavailable for more than 90 days in a row. If the secondary image (active) loses power and the principal is unavailable when it starts again, it will go into maintenance mode.

  • Loading of a 3rd certificate on a WLC

I tried to follow the Cisco Document

    http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/4400-series-wireless-...

to load a third-party certificate on a WLC 5520 HA pair.

All goes well until I can

"Copy and paste the CSR information in any tool registration by CA.

After you have submitted the CSR to the third-party CA, the third-party certification authority sign the digital certificate and returns the string of certificates signed by e-mail.
In the case of chained certificates, you receive all of the CA certificate chain.
If you have only one intermediate certificate as in this example, you receive these three certificates from the certification authority:

    Root certificate.pem
    Intermediate certificate.PEM
    Device certificate.pem.

I have been using a server like this Microsoft 2012, and although I can submit the CSR OK, I'll be back is a single file, not three.

Clearly, I'm misunderstanding of information... someone at - it suggestions?

    Thank you

    Jim

With a certification authority internal as in your example of server 2012, most organizations do not practice the high security as public model CA do take their real root offline server to protect. They then issue intermediate certificates of certification authorities, delegated root and so you need a string.

With your CA, just get the root certificate just as he signed the certificate to your server directly.

See "Retrieve the CA certificate" in this Microsoft article:

    Hi Holger,

    Thanks for the reply!

If you are running 7.0 and higher then its possible... Verified earlier the same on my WLC... is the command...

  • WLCs manage LWAPPs to use chs overlapping?

I'm a beginner with the wireless and more, the WLC. (I use a WLC module in a search report international No. 2851). I have a few general questions about the WLCM:

    (1) I will deploy five laps out of the WLCM in a floor of a building. It's true that I don't have to worry of duplication of canals as the WLCM detects contention and change the channel? Don't I have to configure anything in particular about channels, on the side of RF?

    (2) I have will be also using 7920 s in my deployment and want to ensure call quality when a user walks/wanders between the towers. I'll use static and 7920 WEPs s are on the same VLAN. Since all APs are associated with the same WLCM, is it true that I will not make additional configuration in order to ensure smooth roaming?

    Thank you!

    Greetings,

It is what it is supposed to do. It has been my experience and other institutions, this is not necessarily the case.

Regarding the allocation of channels, this device did a mediocre job, even though I have many more AP 5, so your mileage may vary. Be on the lookout for the same location co channel features where is not necessary to be.

Power settings also not are managed properly. Almost each AP in my installations are power 2 (17dBm or 50mW) level and it is only because I do not allow the maximum power in option. There is a wonderful document you must download if you want to be anywhere near LWAPP - http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/114/rrm.pdf

read especially the emission power algorithm and the algorithm of hole in coverage. I took the third AP of any AP has a threshold by default - 65, which means that if this criterion is satisfied that the power will not come down. My investigations are at 11 Mbit/s to-65dBm, that would mean my third AP since my first AP location will be at the edge of the first cell in the AP. If you draw three circles on paper, your first circle is where you want, the radius of the third circle must pass through the edge of the first circle... so now that you have to enter the second circle somewhere in there. This scenario is called duplication of 50% - where two AP (two 50% (a 100%) overlap to another AP. If in the case of a failure of AP - two others can pick up the slack. Well, if I draw my networks as such, what the hell do need me LWAPP for? I opened a TAC case and vain quickly actually, I got nowhere at all.

My solution for me is to redesign the existing infrastructure in order to have 20-30% overlap and have 11 Mbps cell boundries to-65dBm. The only way I'll be able to maintain the allocations of power and the channel will remove auto channel RF and power capabilities. I'll harcode that in. Perhaps, once the design, I get up and functional, I'll experiment with sections of the installation and let auto RF have a chance in a properly designed environment and see what happens. Unfortunately, I'm in a production of high-profile health care environment, and I'm not comfortable, especially given the results that I've seen so far.

I hope that you have determined that the 5 you need the AP was based on a valid poll, preferably using the 7920 as the survey tool.

If you have determined your coverage, throughput requirements, and plans for future growth, and read about what rate you can get each access point in the scenarios of data and voice and has determined that some areas may or may not be more densely populated with users using voice or data or both - then you should be ok.

Please think of voice being on the same vlan as data, which should be separate even more data wired people.

If you have many users then go ahead. If you think that the user density could bite you in the pants, he will and he won't let go.

If I have not scared the crap out of you yet, I hope to have given you some things to think about and tools to use so that you are not in the situation that I am currently.

However, being the payer cleaner remarkably well. I'm kind of the wireless "Mr. Wolf" in the film of our network.

  • customers on flexconnect AP cannot get dhcp address after upgrade wlc

    Hi community support.

I have a WLC 2504, with 30 APs 1130 flexconnect mode. The WLC runs the code version 7.0.240.0. In order to register new models of ap, we need upgrade to a recent code.

In the last attempt to upgrade to version 7.4.121.0, the AP has joined the WLC, mappings of vlan in flexconnect have been checked and were very good. However, customers were unable to get an address DHCP (169.254.x.x). The DHCP server is local to each location, is usually a 3750 x that serves as a master switch.

connection via cable, clients received address dhcp. so the dhcp server isn't the problem. Updated for the 7.6.100.0 code, but got the same behavior.

Finally, we decided to downgrade the wlc code 7.0.240.0 once again, and everything started working again, but I need upgrade we buy access to new models of points.

Someone else had a similar problem?

    Thank you

    Hello

What is the vlan native you are using? If it's the number of vlan 2, then it is known bug CSCui73764

    Symptom:

Flex series APs 1130 & 1240 mode, won't see traffic, for example, DHCP, ARP. on some wireless LANs.

    Conditions:
    (1) flex connect local switching
    (2) AP 1240 or 1130
    (3) any version before 7.4.121.7
    (4) native vlan x, not work y vlan.
    (5) failed to get the ip address of the user.

    Workaround solution:
change the vlan native to a surprisingly high number, so no wlan will never be are mapped to a very high bridge group number.

    Other Description of the problem:
Telnet on the flex AP. here is an example. VLAN 3 is the vlan native Flex ap, it is correctly mapped to group 1. now WiFi is not working is the one that is mapped to vlan2. below, carefully, the vlan 2 is mapped to fill the 3 group. It is the forum where we hit the bug. Therefore, it can be any combination of wlan-vlan-native vlan.

To quote one of the answers:
The global primary and secondary come into play if there is no primary or secondary configured specifically in the AP. personally I've never used it however if you had only two controllers that would be ideal. I just see by specifying more granular level AP. personally I always use the HA tab for the ap as you never know how the deployment will evolve. You may fail aps to only one controller several controllers. You may need the HA failover priority. It is always useful to understand what will happen when your controllers fail and can become interesting if you have several controllers with several groups of AP and RF to profiles that you really need start controlling what ap's going where.

As you can see, most of the Admins do not configure the Global setting.
Just be patient in their configuration by AP XD
