WMP will not play cd or dvd...

Hello. Vista Windows media player used to work. I restarted, antivirus, ms Difficulté analysis, etc. Nothing works. It does not play videos i.e. news clips, tube you, etc. When you put a cd or dvd in the drive, nothing. Can hear the rattling, then nothing. No prompt. No error code. Nothing. Have the recovery disks from the pilot, but useless because the drive does not work. Help, please!

I downloaded a 22 minute video I want to burn to a DVD in my DVD player.  I tried on the DVD-R and DVD + R.  They burn the disk but will not play on the DVD player.  The error message indicates that the reading is not available on this disc.  I used the windows search support to problem solve on my own, but have had no success.  I made sure that I am selecting the option of CD/DVD drive to use the ISO image format.  I entered my option and I have no filters.  I have the video on NTSC format since I'm Pennsylvania / U.S..  I have not tried burning on slow or average speed because it burns the DVD without problem it just will not playback on the DVD player.  What do you recommend as my next plan of action for troubleshooting.

I guess that the video is not DVD compatible Mpeg2.  According to the DVD player, some will play other formats, too.  If there is no program for video on the computer, try Windows Movie Maker (free) to see if the video will too be converted to standard DVD Mpeg2.

    Any help

    Hello

If you use HP MediaSmart DVD to read Blu - ray disc, try the following.

HP now provides a version of PowerDVD 10 Cyberlinks which seems to be a better solution.  Download the latest installer for it on the link below and save it in your downloads folder.

    http://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp56501-57000/sp56904.exe

Once the download is complete, open windows control panel, open programs and features, make a right click the entry for HP MediaSmart DVD and select uninstall - when this process is complete, restart the laptop.

When windows has reloaded, open your downloads folder and double-click Setup for PowerDVD 10 start the installation.  Once this done, see if your Blu ray now playing the discs OK.

System says that the device is functioning properly. I can't update, because I get a message that I have the most up to date available. I did the whole 'uninstall '. Once the computer is restarted, I got the "found new hardware". Yet, nothing. Only a few time a hourglass jumped to the top, but nothing has happened.

The computer simply will not play anything - no CD-ROM, dvd or cd. Instead, the drive blinks several times and does nothing.

However, the computer not only recognizes the drive, but if I hit eject. The disk opens. Once I put a cd/dvd/CD, the computer always says "Please insert a disk into drive D:".

Help, please. And I thank you in advance.

  • WMP will not play dvd - r with the video on this subject:

Audio WMP plays well. But no video. My panasonic dvd player (about 4 years) there will be no more. A friend told me to go on a free website, www.filehippo. to download a "fix." Don't know what I ' d be downloaded, because I am NOT tech savvy. " I have download all 'old' versions as my friend says. I tried windows again, not good. Used the two bays of dvd in my lap.     I am at a loss, my ignorance, but I could sure use some SIMPLE instructions as to why and how to fix it.

I tried the Windows Fixit tool, but no help.  ALSO, I frequently get a box of Windows ERROR when you try to load files from the web or e-mails down. It usually says: windows cannot open this file: unrecognized program. "Then it tells me to click for the solution, but don't know which software to use and I stop trying, cause the error message arrives for this too. sigh.

I know it's probably a 'newbie' question, but your help would be appreciated. I think this question will come and the problem with windows is not not able to download is fairly common as well. Thanks for any help.   Sincerely, debbie in Florida.

Hi, I think I've gotten help to solve my problem with playback of DVDs with different codes that WMP will accept. I downloaded a NEW multimedia player of BS to WWW.filehippo.com/download bsplayer/8842/who worked for the media BS player. I got help with THAT download to get, I got the SECOND version listed on the left column. Now works on computer, next step is to get the "firmware" for Panasonic download on my dvd player, and it will play as well. Thanks for the help, I finally learned enough searched all day Sunday (ugh) and then my friend helped me on the phone. Thank you all and hope that it helps you, too.     CODECS, which kne w?

  • Windows Movie Maker DVD will not play in my DVD of Emerson drive

Burned DVD won't play in my dvd player. I worked on it for three days. I burned a movie on a dvd + rw disc. The film will play on my computer but won't play in my dvd player. I get "Disk error" on the screen and the disc may not have playback function. What is the function of reading and how I can change my download? I lived all the concepts of self-help, but none of them fit to my problem. I have Windows Vista Premium and have tried using Windows DVD Maker. I called the manufacturer of my drive and they said I need to finalize the disc. How can I do to do this with Windows DVD MAKER?  I read articles about video editing, but when I went through the steps that I wasn't even offered the possibility to publish the video. My brother uses the same discs when burning movies and I have no problem playing his films. What I am doing wrong?

    Hi BrookeMcCulley,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers community.

On some of the DVD player, you will not be able to play DVD + RW discs.  You will need to use DVD + r (read DVD) drive and check if it works.

You can also try to use another brand of DVD disc and check.

  • After burning .wmv on DVD, it will not play on a DVD player

Original title: Save as one file other than .wmv

After that I recorded my video (such as a .wmv file) and burn it to a DVD, it won't play on any DVD players. The saved file can be converted to another type that will play on most DVD players? Or even recorded under one of these files?

DVD player, that I hooked up to my TV plays .wmv files that I take with my camera. I do not use the DVD program supplied with Win7 however. Roxio DVD Creator. But there are free converters out there. I actually convert mine by default the camera MOV to WMV for distribution by e-mail.

  • HP ENVY 17 TS j078 laptop will not play blu ray dvd

I just got a HP ENVY 17 TS j078 Notebook PC

I had to call the assistance that he would not play a dvd.

They have installed VLC MEDIA PLAYER and dvd movies now work.

I understand this particular laptop also plays blu ray dvd, I tried several but no luck.

Any suggestions before I waste2 hours with HP support!

    Hello:

Yes, this model confirms that it is not a blue ray player, just an optical drive DVD - RW.

You can see a post similar to the link below where someone had a different brand with the same drive laptop and could not play Blu - Ray discs.

    http://Rog.ASUS.com/Forum/showthread.php?9543-G74S-does-not-play-Blu-ray-discs

If he were a blue ray player, he has been tagged BD instead of DVD xxxxx xxxxx.

That's how my blue ray player is tagged.

  • Windows Media Center will not play my video/DVD

I tried to play a video/DVD on my laptop and got this error:

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with the digital copy between your DVD player and the video card protection decoder. Try to install a driver available for your video card.

I went to the Device Manager in the control panel and everything was listed as up-to-date and working properly.  What should I do?

    Hello

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Answers.

It is obvious that the DVD is protected against copying. Therefore, you cannot copy the contents of the disc. But to read the DVD, you need a suitable decoder. If it is missing/corrupt/out of date, you may need to install the most recent.

Have you installed the readers of third party DVD like PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc.. ? If so, it should work.

I don't know what you were doing in the past who would work on the normal DVD player.

I know, if you want to burn image files or videos from computer to dvd dics and be able to play in any regular DVD player, you will need to do this with Windows DVD Maker.

    Excerpt:
Windows DVD Maker is an application included in premium editions (Home Premium and Ultimate Windows Vista, and Windows 7 Home Premium) and editions that is designed to allow the creation ofDVD movies that can be played usingDVD reading or on a stand-alone consumerDVD player software.
