Word Doc to PDF in InDesign CS4

I have a document that contains the PDF files from Word documents (it's a story LONG and frustrating). When these PDF files is revised and I update in the InDesign file, they tend to resize, usually greater than 100%. (To avoid this, I tried a few things - 1) to make the size of the box PDF photo and 2) preparation of the box about the size of the page and the PDF positioning properly - none of these options worked. Are there other solutions. or is it inevitable?

Bounding box is a very elastic dimension. You would probably set the preferences for scale is protected, that dimensions in this case if you are trying to make a new form of bounding box rather integrate the old size of frame in the same way.

  • Cannot place a Word specific 2010 docx in InDesign CS4

I'm trying to use the place command to align the specific text of a docx Word 2010 with InDesign CS4.

I managed in several Word 2010 (extension docx) documents to InDesign CS4 documents using the place command.

I have a specific document of 30 pages (which is not loarger others who succeeded) and when I use the command set with this file, nothing happens (and no text gets load on the slider for placement.)

I tried to re - save the word, same doc pasted its contents into a new Word document and still not get the command room to work.

There is nothing particularly unique about the file - is not any weird embedded content, just a 30 page text writtin in word document.

Any ideas what could go wrong or how to fix it?

I tried to restart Word and InDesign without change (and the rest of my word files can be placed without problems, so I guess it's something specific to this file.

NOTE - re-registration in the RTF format allows the place command work but leaves a lot of empty boxes/squares (not sure whether tabs or spaces empty or that really?)

Can work around this problem for now, but I would like to know how to get the command to place working with decent-sized Word documents (docx for word 2010 if it matters).

    Thanks for any help.

It seems that there is something in the Word doc that InDesign finds offensive.  Especially if other docx import very well. Is the formatting you want to keep?  If not, I would try to save as text only to get rid of all the formatting. Or if it's a faulty stylesheet, or manual setting, try to clear the formatting palette styles.  Could be that the docx is corrupt?  Have you tried "Save as...". "and save it as an earlier version with the .doc extension?

    Good luck!

  • How can I get the smallest pdf from InDesign CS4, but keep some sharpness?

I have a brochure of 2 pages, front and back with layered photoshop files, and when I do the small pdf, I need to make a file of 100kb as a customer has done in the past. The smallest, I can do the PDF is 460kb.  He'll be no smaller, no matter what I do. Of course I can enter final resolution as 72 dpi, but photos are very blurred. I have even reduced the size of the files of the photos and replaced in the document. The size of the file remains the same.  My client said that reduced Illustrator for him plus size small in the past but I don't think it's the solution.  How can I you keep some sharpness in a pdf file but keep the size of the file to a bare minimum?

But InDesign CS4 out the file no matter what happens to 460 k for me.

Still don't know why they got 100 KB.

By not using not InDesign. Scott is on the right track by mentioning Distiller - what makes PDF files which is smaller than InDesign can export. Illustrator can be used (bad *) in the same way. Both methods can remove stuff that you don't need if you don't care the print quality don't care about reliable display on multiple platforms, don't care exactly how your fonts are included, don't care about the trial that blind people using screen readers will sue you and so on. I don't know what above is not in your customer file 100 k, or that things in my list above will be eliminated out using Distiller or Illustrator, but I bet that one of the people that has already been posted in your thread is known and can be talked about telling us.

But, if you try to make your customers happy and are not actually personally invested to make the smaller PDF files known to man, and if you are located in the United States, then maybe the phrases "blind screen... readers accessibility... trial" spoken together could encourage your client to rethink this arbitrary will of tiny size of PDF files.

Alternatively, you can just save postscript on the two PDF files and just watch the .ps files in your favorite plain text viewer.

  • Convert a MS WORD doc in PDF format

I need to convert a MS WORD doc into a PDF file and the PDF must be grayscale and fonts must be embedded.

I have Adobe Creative Suite 4.

Can someone tell me the detailed steps for how best to achieve this.

I'm not technical and I am not familiar with the Adobe programs since I just got them so please could you

explain that if a child because I don't understand technical jargon is.

    Sorry to be a pain.

    OK, I missed that.

You may need to convert images to grayscale before making the PDF file.

To do this, double-click on a graphic image and in the Format of the image window, click on the 'Image' tab and under color, select 'Gray levels', then click OK.

I hope that you have not hundreds of graphics in this file.

Using the method I described in my post of first going to embed fonts.

  • Convert Word doc to PDF - problem with section breaks

I have Adobe Acrobat Pro (constant rejection of 2015) on my Macbook Pro (OS Yosemite 10.10.5) and I use Word for Mac 2011. I write a lot of long documents and often insert section breaks if I can change the orientation of the page from portrait to landscape and back, etc... When I convert Word documents to a part of the PDF document is PDF - ed up to first page redirecting.  He drives me crazy because in order for the entire document to convert, I break up of my word document in separate documents according to portrait or landscape mode and then convert each into a PDF file separately and combine them and then at the end.  It causes no end of trouble with numbers of page and headers, and feet.

    This happened to someone else?

    Does anyone have a solution?

I would be grateful for any help.  I'm about to write another very long report containing pages of different orientation, and I'd rather be able to PDF in a go.  Thank you.

    Hi wendym79499885,

In Word, open the file you want to create a PDF file, click file > print and select Adobe PDF as the printer.

Click Properties in the print dialog box make sure you have the selections you want.

Back on the Print Setup dialog box, leave the paper and Orientation as a letter and Portrait respectively.

In the print dialog box, select print to file and navigate to the correct location. Be sure to save as a PostScript (name.ps) file and the safe field book both, you want only selected file.

Once again on the print dialogue box book, click on the checkbox to generate data Adobe and click Configuration of PDF. On the PDF configuration for the selected files dialog box, PDF job options, select print quality or make the choice for your situation for settings, Favorites, Tags, and links.

With Adobe Distiller open, file > open and find the .ps file you previously reported. Also check that your default settings for the PDF file are correct. When the Distiller is finished, you can double-click the PDF to open it and check your landscape and portrait pages display correctly.

I would like to know if it works for you.

    Kind regards

  • After you convert a Word DOC to PDF units on rule change to points

Whenever I have turn a Word document (Office 2003) PDF using Adobe Acrobat 7.1.0 units on the rule under the toolbars to convert centimeters to points. So I have to change tools. It's no big deal, but I would be very grateful to anyone who has any idea how this can be avoided.

    ktomica,
The link provided by Mike is 'Official' Adobe that acrobat updates the location.

Because you're in 7.1.0 you need treat each version update 7 past 7.1.0 in sequence.

Do this sequence: 7.1.1 update the 7.1.2 and 7.1.3 7.1.4.

  • Open a new window when linking between PDF docs (link originates in a Word doc)

    Hello

I saw this discussed historically general topic, but couldn't find any resolution.  I have a Word doc (let's call it A.doc) linking to a PDF doc (let's call it b.pdf). Once I have convert Word doc to PDF (A.pdf creation), I want the link en.pdf to open b.pdf in a new window.

I've seen a number of suggestions that indicate that I can set up the link in Word to do this, use her change the hyperlink > target frame > frame target > 'new window '.  While this works if I click on the link in Word, it does seem to "reporter" once I converted A.doc to A.pdf.  When I click the link en.pdf then B.pdf opens in the same window in time.

I know how to add manually link in Acrobat.pdf to do this, but I don't want you add manually the link every time I create A.pdf.  I want to create the link once in A.doc and did delay in time, and then open the b.pdf link in a new window.

I've seen suggestions on adding some HTML somewhere.  Unfortunately, they are not, that I'm viewing the PDF files in a browser.

I saw suggestions for using the CTRL key at the same time click on the link en.pdf.  Would not be practical, because I have no way to make sure that my users will know it.

I've seen suggestions on the use of JavaScript, but it would mean (I know) I have to add the JavaScript whenever I convert A.doc A.pdf.  Still, I won't have to do any post-processing of A.pdf after I got it to create.  I want the link in 'just work' A.doc after A.pdf is created, i.e. open b.pdf in a new window.

This * seems * like a simple thing to do, I hope there is a simple solution.

BTW, I'm using Word 2007 and Acrobat X.

    Thanks for your help!

    Dave

I use Word 2003 and Acrobat 10 and links created as you describe defaults to 'new window '.

You have the 'Open links in the same interdocument window' unchecked in Edit > Preferences > Documents?

.. sounds too easy... (and your users will probably have to make the change even if they need this behavior, unless you have a very techno IT department that can deploy configuration files large company).

  • How can I embed fonts in MS Word doc sent to somene

Hi all.  I installed and used a font that I downloaded on the Internet.  Everything is good.  Documents look great, and normally I create PDF files from Word documents.  But, when I send a Word Doc (not PDF) that has my custom font (Ubuntu, it's the police anyone is wondering) is not "coming through" to the recipient.  End result is that the recipient opens the Doc they can't read the text.  I had described me as looking like a cursive, but unreadable font.

    El Capitan

    Word for Mac 15.22.1

I saw something "Save using an embedded font" and a checkbox when registering, but I don't see that in my version of Word for Mac.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks a ton.

Word does not incorporate fonts. You will need to send it with the document, or save it in PDF format and send that.

  • InDesign CS4 do not place a word document

    Hello

I just had to InDesign CS4 installed on my computer at work. The installation went perfectly, and I was able to open InDesign files with no problems at all. But when I tried to put a word document in one of these formats:

    1. 2010 (.doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt)
    2. same formats of 2007

He gave me the following error message:

either the file does not exist, you may not, or the file may be in use by another application

I went into the system to see if all this relates to this specific word file is open - nothing. I made sure there is no open files office.

If this problem is already solved, please excuse the duplication and if possible I would like to have a link to the thread.

    Thanks for your help.

In general this error appears when the file is opened. Perhaps the temporary Word file has not deleted properly when closing.

  • Paste from word in interactive PDF doc.

    Hey all,.

I've implemented an interactive PDF for a customer so he can stick a word in a tamplate doc every month and do not make me do all the time. I did the PDF from InDesign and then set up a text invisibale field to paste into. He stuck a word doc, but this time the word doc contains a table and the table will not hold its formatting.

Does anyone know how to get around this problem?

    Ta

No, unless the table could be created and saved as image jpeg, then you can insert it in form of image in the pdf file, and then save the PDF file. ??
