Working with storage

Oracle 11.2.0 (11g) - Windows Server 2008

We have our first system based on the Oracle database.
We load data into this database by months, and after the loading of each month I check the size of tablespaces in Enterprise Manager.

We need to load of 24 months, but after loading the third month I already see a problem.
The performance is very good, but the placeholder for the index is very fast.
This tablespace (TS_IDX_01) has only 1 file (DF_SATH_IDX_01.dbf).
After the third month of loading space used was 93%.
I've performed a reconstruction in this index tablespace, then an analysis of the statistics.
After these routines, the used space is 73%.
This idx tablespace size is now 1,151 GBs and there 847MBs of used space.
These sizes have been specified by the consultant who installed the system 3 months ago.
I read a lot of documents on this subject, and sometimes it seems that the more information I have more confused I get.
I would like to have the opinion of someone more experienced because it is not just a matter of the creation of new storage space which follows the structure created by our consultant, but also a matter of future performance.
So I have 2 questions:
(1) it seems possible to change the size of storage in EM. Is he aware of do? I have technical problems or performance during this change?
(2) based on the situation I described, could you give me some suggestions about size for this index tablespace and its files?

Thanks in advance,

Eduardo

Hello

Generally, with the latest versions of Oracle, it is common to leave the tablespace "autoextend".
In other words, it will be grown when full / necessary.

Our databases have tablespaces of Index for example 80 GB or 200 GB, so the size described by the structure of the consultant is in your case to small path.
The consultant has probably a consultant of the application and not an Oracle DBA. So it is questionable if it includes the sizes of the objects in its application very well

To change your tablespace with autoextend use the following syntax

Select name from v$ datafile where ts #= (select ts # in v$ tablespace where name = 'TS_IDX_01');

With this name wanted:

ALTER database datafile 'name' autoextend on next 100 m maxsize 10G;

If the tablespace exists over a file, this for all files
This allows the tablespace to extend itself to the need with chunks of 100 MB, until you reach the size of 10 GB. Then the usual messages «cannot extend tablespace...» "will appear

  • Mac Pro and living with storage Thunderbolt

Yes I m thinking of diving and the purchase of the Mac Pro with 256 or 512 GB SSD. So what I wonder about is what kind of external storage Thunderbolt to buy and how performance is with love at first sight when you work with large image (1-2 GB. tif´s) files. The internal memory won't be enough with 256 / 512GB SDD and the 1 TB i dear for me. So I'd rather have an external storage to store the images and also do the real work.

The computer I m using right now is a Macbook Pro 2011 with a 256 GB OSX disc and 1 to mechanical (swapped the optical drive).

  • Programatically register values of control only works with Ctrl Val.Get all (not recommended)

    Hello

I just downloaded "programmatically save 86 vi of https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-3551 control values.

This works.  In the recording, but there an invoke with Ctrl Val.Get All (deprectated) node structure of the event.  I thought that I would get rid of the obsolete reselecting the control method get all.  Of course it was more an (outdated) at the end and the top of the page, little changed from pink to yellow.  However when I run and load a file that is saved I get: error 116 took place to Unflatten chain... Possible reasons:

LabVIEW: Unflatten or stream of bytes read operation was in pain due to corrupted, unexpected or truncated data.

    A few questions:

If I were writing this thing without having to download the example it wouldn't work.  Any ideas how I would work in LabVIEW 2011?

The example is quite old, people would use another method of loading and storage of the parameters in a VI these days?

This VI crashes after a while.  Is it because he has two event Structures in a loop or because there is no case of timeout or what? (I am not really concerned about why it crashes but if someone knows the answer without wasting time running it I'd appreciate it)

Thanks for the tips, things that I can draw from this

The old ways worked with a data type that was {name, type descriptor, flattened data}. The use of new methods {name, variant}, to adapt the code to work with this data type. Also, you cannot use the old data with the new code files.

I'm assuming that the VI is lock because you have two structures of event in a loop simple (it would make sense, since each structure must wait for an event is to occur), but I'm not the code itself, I can't be sure.

With respect to the other options, I generally without saving all the controls on a front panel, but when I want to record a bunch of controls, I usually use something like this, which can also work if you collect all the controls of the FP. There are also links to other similar things in the more 'like this' section with the page.

  • A USB cable will work with any device?

    Title: USB cable original

    Hello.

Let's say that a SCART is not equipped with a USB cable.

Is a 'universal' USB cable to work with "any" device USB or different types of devices have different types/forms of USB cables?

    Thank you.

USB is pretty universal.  The flat rectangular plug that goes in your computer is known as a 'Type A '.  The square plug that usually goes into a printer is a "Type B".  There are also small connectors (Mini-A, Mini-B, Micro-AB, and Micro-B).

Generally, if you find a cable with the appropriate connectors, this will work.  If the device to which you are connecting does not fall into a general 'category' (e.g. mass storage devices), then the driver software may be necessary at the end of the computer.

  • 128 - GB MicroSD card does not work with the new Clip +.

My old Clip + (black, 8 GB) was getting very long in the tooth, so I ordered a replacement off Amazon.  As far as I know, it is identical to the old, but a very unpleasant difference is presented - it does not work with the MicroSD card which has been a huge part of why I got a Sansa at all.  He acknowledges, but after a media updated I'm lucky if more than one album appears.  And that's what's so crazy!  You just blow through the update in a few seconds, and when I navigate on the map, there is nothing or a handful of albums random, orphaned.  That's happened?  I updated the new Clip + for the current firmware (as I had done with previous); I made sure to reproduce all the parameters that I would be put in place before--I can't imagine what could be the cause!

    Treats quick closing:

The card is formatted in FAT32 with the same sector size in storage aboard the player (32 768 bytes).

A 64 GB card format works even without any problem.

I tried to update the media in MTP and MSC mode; the problem is the same in both.

There is ample space for MTABLE. SYS - I have not yet loaded all the music on the Clip + itself.

Rockbox plays the card without problem, but the sound quality is horrible (at least on this player; I'm sure that other versions sound best), and its interface is a headache.  No thanks.

HM.  Looks like to run CHKDSK /F on the map the problem resolved!

  • ReadyBoost works with a disc hard slave?

I have a 100G old hard drive that I no longer use and just read about Readyboost.

ReadyBoost works with a slave internal drive?

    Hello

ReadyBoost works on the discs and USB QUICK keys. Your hard drive is not as fast as those who are.
So the best you can use it for if it is fast enough (similar to the speed of your current primary drive) is
Add it as a 2nd drive and format it in NTFS and put the pagefile.sys (virtual memory) about it.

Also USB keys are not that expensive. And ReadyBoost is limited to 4Gig anyway.

You can add memory, or use a very fast Flash DRIVE for READYBOOST.
The combination allows more however, either will help some when using memory of pigs.
(Those who use a lot of memory, large files, or to have a lot of programs open at the same time).

(A QUICK Readyboost drive is the best cheapest bang for buck. The only time where you will notice
It is during these pigs are at stake).

ReadyBoost uses up to 4 GB of disk space for caching, which can allow the computer to
run a little faster especially when a large number of programs are running (or some that use huge)
    data files as photoshop).

To use a USB stick in the USB port and it must initialize and appear as a drive
Space in the start - menu computer or Windows Explorer. You can then COPY or SAVE files to
the reader. To remove the drive using the Safely Remove Hardware icon near the clock in
    Lower right corner.

    Hello

With Linux, as any OS, iSCSI is not different from the SAS/SATA or Fibre Channel.  No matter how you are connected to a "disk", it looks like a SCSI to the OS disk.

So yes, you use the mount points.   That's how Linux as most UNIX operating systems do it.  But use any method supported for other iSCSI disks.   In Windows, you can use drive letters or mount points.

    Kind regards

  • ReadyBoost works with Windows 7 Starter Edition?

ReadyBoost will work with Windows 7 Starter Edition?
I am intrigued by the Archos 9 tablet PC runs Windows 7 Starter Edition, but received some lukewarm reviews, with its performance most often described as weak.
I thought that Readyboost can help him, but I'm not sure if it is supported in Windows 7 Starter Edition.
    Does anyone know for sure?

    Hi Ebenton,

Windows ReadyBoost can use storage space on some devices of removable media, such as USB flash drives, speed up your computer. When you insert a device with this capability, the AutoPlay dialog box will offer you the option to speed up your system using Windows ReadyBoost. If you select this option, you can then choose how much memory to use for this purpose.

This feature comes with all editions of Windows 7.

  • Workflow to remove giant files when you work with 4 k images

I put on the live educational programs periodically, which can operate for about 1 1/2 hours.  I have been those on Panasonic GH4 4K recording and capturing Atomos Shogun on an SSD.

These files can be very wide - from 200-400 + gigabytes, so store raw images impossible quickly, especially since I would like to make copies of backup - and that means 2-4 to hard drives fill up very quickly.

My potential output will be in HD (1920 x 1080) - but I don't invoice using the 4K, because it gives me the opportunity to film a whole scene and then crop the shot / zoom in to individual speakers.  (and it is a production effort one person, where I implemented the advance camera and just let it run)

There is a feature of downres automatically from 4K to 1080 - but I don't want to throw all the data that allows me to make false zooms, pans etc.

Thanks for your suggestions regarding the storage and workflow.

OK... a primer on the size of the files in the image pixel by image measurement:

    HD... 1280 x 720... or simply "720"... is 1280 x 720 pixels or 921 600 pixels per picture, say about 1 million pixels.

"Full HD"... FHD... 1920 x 1080... or... just "1080" is 1920 x 1080 pixels or 2 073 600 pixels per image, for example Yes, about 2 million pixels.

    4 k varies a bit, GH4 uses the 3840 x 2160 flavor mainly... which is 8 294 400 pixels per image, for example about 8.3 million pixels.

The above numbers are for each image. Multiply that by the number of frames per second, which by 60, and you get the amount of data must be recorded per minute of time. You can see that 4 k is a considerable increase in FHD data, not to mention HD. Naturally, which is why it is of great interest, right?

And... 10-bit takes a piece of data-more space to record 8-bit, as you have the values possible in 1063 by image rather than 265.

Now... the codecs do something a 'complete' picture recording all save as many executives and right in-between the pixels that change. A bit of whimsy to the dance, and depending on how it is done in a file resulting of decent quality... or the hash. And of course, another problem is that it can also take a TON of most cycles CPU off encode all of the media to play on your screen.

Jim Simons and I tend to go for Cineform as large intermediate codec... parts return "like butter" through the CPU and Yes, may contain 10-bit color data you need to make the green screen... but... it is not too compressed than others. Which is a good part of the reason for which it reproduces so well.

DNxHD/R works fine too and can be used in the flavors that keep the 10 bits, seem to compress a little more than the Cineform and reading pretty decently.

But the file up to FHD consequence dumping you will never get the 4 k resolution data back.

It's one of those situations where you have to pick your poison. Seriously. Keep the data, or record HD or tape backup space. Well, hard drives become cheaper, you know.

And be happy that you are not working with 6 k-12/bit material!

    Neil

  • Work with Lr from a NAS

I have a NAS (Network Attached Storage) that I use to store all my photos for the backup. However, I was wondering if I could have Lr directly until the NAS rather than keep the files on my original hard drive (running out of space quickly). My NAS has mirrored of drives so if one goes down, I always have a back-up.

I don't know if Lr will have problems with the network connection via the SATA connection on my hard drive.

    Thoughts, experience, help?

Yes, you can work with photos on one of the RAID drives and have the other RAID disk-based backups.

You must point Lightroom to use the RAID drive instead of the internal drive. Please follow the instructions in this document (scroll down to the section called "Part 2 ‑‑ update folder Location"). Future imports should go directly to the RAID drive instead of your internal disk.

  • Will VSA works with single NETWORK card

    Hello

I have a question about the unit of storage in VSphere. As far as my knowledge is concerned, while we initiate the deployment of the VSA Cluster on two or three host scenario, a virtual appliance VSA is installed on each host computer, which automatically creates a HA cluster and creates two standard switches by default. Each VSA appliance has two network cards, one for the front-end server and one for the back-end.

My question is if I have only one physical NETWORK adapter present on my Esxi hosts, VSA will work correctly? I asked this question to a few friends and they me says that it will work and both the front-end server and the back-end NICS will be connected to a single virtual switch with which the physical NETWORK adapter is connected. I've never tested and I do not have an environment who test him too. Anyone of you can test it for me?

    Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the confusion, the VSA 1.0 does not work with ESXi having only single-port Teddy.

  • How config FCoe to work with esx4.1 and CISCO?

    Hello

I installed a server esx 4.1 intended to test and we want to configure to work with FCoe.

The Esx has a Qlogic 10 G card to do this, we have a problem with our network team.

The cards are regognized as vmnic and my HC is on them, but we now want to make the connection on the

Cisco side so that I could also see the storage.

Is there a manual for config this thing on both sides? VMware and CISCO?

is there something special, that I need the config on my side?

I did not FCoE with Cisco, but I made many configurations with Brocade/VMware & Qlogic FCoE. It works like a charm. In this case, everything I do is:

    (1) plug the Qlogic card to the server & get the vmnic up & working with qlogic drivers (I think you are finished with this step, if you have not mentioned about installing qla & pilots qlge on the box of ESX. You all TWO qlge & qla drivers for the Qlogic fcoe card)

    (2) after step 1, you should be ready for the FCoE, you don't have to do anything once the ESX box came.

    (3) a last step to the area both the FCoE (QLogic) adapter with your target of FCoE in your Cisco box. With Brocade switches, all I have to do is:

    (i) set up the port connected as a "fcoeport" to get the connected port

(II) create a box with 2 WWN & add this area to the cfg, & activate this cfg. That's all.

I feel that you do not "installed the qlogic drivers (qlge & qla in ESX yet), just in case if you have not, here is the driver names you need (doesn't have to be exact, just look for the part"qlge"&"qla"):"
