WRT54GL Local connection only

I tried for this search in the forums, so I apologize if this question has already been addressed.

I recently bought a WRT54GL router connected to my cable modem and then connected to my computer via one of the Ethernet ports.  But I can't connect to internet on my computer, I get local only.

My computer could not read the CD that came with the router, however, based on what I read on the forums it seems that the CD is not necessary.  I use Earthlink and the service provider is Time Warner.

I'm not really sure what's wrong with it, I thought it would be as simple as plugging everything in, but I guess I was wrong.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Make sure that the Modem is connected to the router on the Internet Port and the router to the Ethernet Port of the computer. Do not connect any USB cable from the computer to the modem.

Reset the router for 30 seconds, power cycle the router and once again, check the IPv4 address... If you get the IPv4 address 192.168.1.x and gateway as 192.168.1.1... then, try ping on the bridge. Type ping 192.168.1.1 and press ENTER. If you get 4 answers then, follow this link to configure the router.

  • Problem of local connection only. -After a five-minute Internet connection, the network of the changes at the local level only

I connect to internet at the top 3 mobile broadband using the supplied usb Huawei 3 modem. It was fine for the first 4 days, it was working perfectly until 2 days ago. Now it connects fine but after about 1 minute of connection (sometimes more, up to 5 minutes max) the connection of the changes at the local level only. I searched the forum and website I can find solutions, but nothing seems to work. If I click on diagnose and repair I get an answer that is different each time, such as 'There could be a problem with one or more network adapters on this computer' or "Cannot communicate with the DNS server" or sometimes it says there is no problem even if it doesn't quite work. Sometimes disconnect and then reconnect works but then after a minute it goes to the local level only again. Any help would be appreciated, it gets very annoying to have to disconnect and reconnect every time that I need to go to another page.

Here is the procedure to empty the DNS: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/08/21/how-to-flush-and-reset-dns-cache/ - but even if it's worth a try, I don't know it can solve your problem.

If this does not work, then I suggest strongly since it's only a week or older that return you it to where you have it for a replacement or a service while it is still covered by the warranty.  There are several possible causes and we could spend a lot of time searching to find that it's a hardware problem.  They also know their systems better than we do, and maybe it's a simple configuration problem that has not been defined in law or has been accidentally changed after the first 4 days. In addition, more you mess with it, you, more likely they will tell you caused the problem and the warranty - and you certainly don't want that.

    I hope this helps.

  • New internet router but no connection to internet (local connection only)?

    Hello

I have a computer laptop compaq presario cq60-307sa, I changed recently to talk about my house bt to my internet hub. My computer connects with the router but it won't no matter what internet access and it says "local access only". Internet works fine on my phone, so I know the router is fine and my computer to connect to my internet work without problem. I spoke to talk, but they said I have to reconfigure the computer by going to the computer set up menu but I don't know what to do. I also did the troubleshooting thing, but it didn't work. Can anyone help?

    Thank you very much

    Phil

    Hi, Phil:

What model network adapter do you have in your laptop?

Perhaps a driver update is required for your wireless card work with your new router.

If you have the Atheros AR5007 wireless card and the driver date is before 2010, I can almost guarantee you that is the question.

Please see my thread on the link below.

Read posts with links dated.  I have updated all drivers updated.  Updated everything in the computer Bios etc.  Can connect with an ethernet cable but wireless reading 'local only' so there is no internet connection available.  I have re-installed windows and apparently have something missing.  As I mentioned earlier, there was a link of 'miracle' that people have had success with in the past according to old messages.  But this link is no longer valid.  Can someone please help.

    Re-installed Vista

Windows downloaded and installed all the updates

Download and install all the updates from HP

Download specific drivers for wireless components

Finally, the switch is in position "on".

    Hello:

Installation of this driver should solve the problem.

  • WRT54gl loses connection only on line channel

    Hello

    I met the wierdest problem.

My PC loses the connection with my WRT54GL router and in this case the only thing that brings the back of connection is made power cord from the router and then by him plugging.

When the PC loses connectivity to the router all other computers in the House connected by a wireless connection stay tuned! Only the PC connected by LINE loses connectivity. Restart the modem or PC does not help. Even clicking on the RESET button of the router does not help.

I am running Windows XP, the router is set to STAY ALIVE, I can connect to the router admin and see the IP but can not use the internet.

Does anyone have any idea why this happens?

    Thank you

    O.

On your computer, turn off the firewall and Antivirus and then check if you are able to go online or not. If still no then on your computer, open the command prompt window and type 'ping 208.67.222.222' and press on enter and check whether you have found all the answers, if so, you can assign a static DNS address for your computer.

On your, click Start - Control Panel - network - computer connection, right click on wireless network connection and click Properties and then select "TCP/IP Internet Protocol" and click on properties and below to select the option "use the following syntax address DNS server" and in favorite type of DNS: 208.67.222.222 and auxiliary DNS: 208.67.220.220 and click OK...

Once done, you can restart your computer and check if you are online.

  • Broken WRT54GL? (Local access only)

I had this WRT54G for about 6 or 7 years at this point and have never had a problem with it.

Yesterday all THE devices on the network boot is more access to the internet, I have 1 physical connection and the rest of the devices are wireless, none of them can access the internet. I have the automatic DHCP configuration so I do not understand why there should be problems on this small network. My cable modem is fine and gets the signal from my carrier and when I connect on the web interface on the router I can actually ping and tracert very well on screen diagnosis for the router itself has clearly internet access, but none of the devices on the local network only.

I have confirmed that they have all valid IP addresses, assigned by the DHCP service, all can ping the router very well. I emptied the caches dns, release / renewed addresses, reset the cable modem and the router on 6 times each, still nothing. I also updated the firmware today (4.30.11-> 4.30.17), the update was successful, but it has not fixed the problem.

And just to show there were no changes to the network or anything, just out of the Blue yesterday nothing on the network could access the internet. That's what makes me think of the router itself is broken and needs to be replaced. Willing to listen to the advice of troubleshooting, but I already have a lot of it.

Hi dankmemer. You said to make an update of the firmware, did you do a hard reset just after that? You reinstall the settings from scratch? The reset will ensure that the new firmware will synchronize with the new settings. To make the correct reset, please press the reset button on the router for 30 seconds while the unit is turned on. Release the button and unplug the unit.  Given that the unit will return to the default settings, re - install the settings from scratch.

If the same thing happens, then it may be best to check our latest range of routers. Six years of service should be good enough for the present.

  • local access only: unable to connect to the internet

Recently, my laptop has trouble to connect to my home network. It's a laptop Dell and Windows Vista. This laptop used to connect wirelessly to the network without any problem, but lately, whenever it connects, it is said that "local access" and does not allow me to use the internet. " This problem occurred at the same time I replaced my old router with a new. Another laptop and other devices can still connect to the internet with this new router with no problems, but my laptop stops the message "local access only".

After some research, I discovered that in typing "Cmd" in the search bar after clicking the start menu, run this program as an administrator, type "netsh int ip reset" in the command prompt, then by restarting my computer would fix my problem and my laptop would work very well and connect to the network and to the internet with no problems. However, as soon as my laptop is entered 'sleep' mode or has been disabled, when it was turned on again the problem persists and I have to follow the process of using the command prompt and restart the computer every time I turned on my laptop.

As you can imagine, this process can be quite annoying and I would like to find a more permanent solution to my problem, especially since the past several times, I tried this workaround, it failed, so my laptop is once more without internet access. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be appreciated I am completely puzzled. Thanks for any help.

    Hello

    Method 1
I suggest you try the steps from the following link:

Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or some non-Microsoft DHCP servers
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/928233

Note: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article: back up the registry in Windows Vista

    Method 2
In addition, you can disable IPv6 to see if that nor does not affect the wireless adapter.

    To disable IPv6:
    (a) go to start, right click on the network, and then click Properties.
    (b) network and sharing window will appear, then click on manage network connections.
    (c) network connections window will appear. Here you can right click on the network adapter that you want to disable IPv6, then click Properties.
    (d) in the local area network connection properties window, clear the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) check box, and then click OK.

    Method 3
I suggest you try the steps from the following link:

problem with connecting to the internet

whenever I try to connect to my internet I get 'local internet only' and when I try to repair it it says that there may be a problem with your dns server, I looked for a solution for centuries now, and no one can seem to help me! Please someone help me?

    Hello

First off I'm going to assume that when you say "local internet only", you really mean "local only". Also, I'll assume you are using a router for internet connection broadband. If I am wrong, then you will have to describe the answer how you try to connect to the internet more in detail.

First of all, your router. The indicators show that there is an internet connection? Consult the manual, which probably came on a CD with the router. Internet connection led can resemble a planet with rings or a circle with a lower-case i in the middle of it, or some other symbol. It can also have a caption saying 'internet' or 'connected '. If the router is not connected while your PC will not have access to the internet.

Click the Start button and type "cmd" then press ENTER. In the window type (mainly black) which results in ipconfig and press to enter. Transcribe the results of the command ipconfig for a response.

Your (wired or wireless) network card is set to automatically get an ip address? Otherwise, set it to do that and also to get information from DNS server automatically...

    • Right-click on the icon network at the bottom right of your screen, and then click Network and sharing Center
    • In network and sharing Center, click on manage the network connections (on the left)
    • Right click on 'Connect to the Local network' or 'Wireless Network Connection' depending on how you connect to the router
    • Click on select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click the properties button
    • If things are not set to 'automatic', please note all numbers so that you can restore the settings if necessary
    • Make sure that "Obtain an IP address automatically" and 'DNS server automatically get an address' is selected, then click OK
    • Click on close

If you are using a wireless connection, what happens if you try to connect to your router with an Ethernet cable?

Please post back with your comments to the above and give more details about your configuration, i.e. router brand and model (or another material of Internet), if you connect wireless or with an Ethernet cable, etc. etc.

    VIsta - Local access only

    HI -.
I recently moved.   I use the same router from my old apartment and I had no problem connection in the past.   Since I moved I have a new Time Warner modem (Cisco) and the modem works fine.

The router also works very well I'm able to connect with my iPhone and IPad without any problem.

But when I try to connect with my wireless laptop, it will only connect to Local access.    If I connect the laptop to the router with the ethernet cable, it works very well.

    It's a Dell Studio 15 with Vista.

The computer is able to connect to wifi to other places without any problem, but for some reason that I can't connect home.   I tried to reset the modem and the router several times, but that did not help.   I tried the option repair & diagnose several times but it doesn't work.

I tried to look for other solutions online and tried to disable IPv6, and while it helped some and I was able to connect wireless, the computer ran so slowly that it didn't seem like a good solution.

This has been very frustrating.   Thanks in advance for any help or suggestion.

  • local access only - cannot connect to my wireless router

I can't get my laptop to connect to my wireless router, all I get is local access only, but my laptop with windows 7 connects very well.

    Hello

    Maybe this can help.

Most laptops have a physical switch for the wireless card. Read the manual of the computer and make sure that the wireless adapter is on.

Check the Device Manager for the wireless card valid entry.

    http://www.ezlan.NET/Win7/net_dm.jpg

If there is no valid entry, remove any entry from fake and re - install the drivers for the wireless card.

Check network connections to make sure that you have a network icon/entry wireless connection, and that the properties of the icon (right-click on the icon) are correctly configured with the TCP/IPv4 protocol in the properties of network connections.

    http://www.ezlan.NET/Win7/net_connection_tcp.jpg

Make sure that if there is Wireless Utility a utility vendor is not running with the native Windows wireless utility.

Make sure you firewall No. preventing / blocks wireless components to join the network.

Above everything is OK and it connects to the wireless router. Log in from any computer which is, or can be connected to the router with a wire wireless, disable wireless security, make sure that the wireless streaming is enabled and try to connect with no. wireless security.

When the work turns on the Wireless security.

Note * people sometimes make mistakes in writing and retype the password for security.

Another way is to copy in the menu of the router and then paste it when asked of the wireless card.

    --------------------------------------------------

I really checked and configured every thing and it doesn't work.

Software firewall application that is not configured to allow local traffic (between the computer and the router is also a possible problem.
some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled). If possible, configure the firewall correctly or completely uninstall to allow a clean flow of local network traffic. If the 3rd party software is uninstalled, or disables, make sure Windows native firewall is active .

    Hello Gemzy,

Thank you for choosing Microsoft answers forum for windows vista.

There are several things that we can try to solve this problem.

Let's start by disabling all other connections to try to force the wireless connection to request the information needed in the router.  So go to start > Control Panel > network and sharing Center > manage network connections.  Click on each link listed EXCEPT the wireless LAN connection, then click on disable this network device.  Then see if your wire will connect.  You may run the diagnostic and repair utility on the Network and Sharing Center menu to force the wireless card to request information from the router IP.

If all else fails, go back into the network and sharing Center, manage network connections and right click on the wireless network connection and select Properties.  Then click Internet version 4 Protocol and select Properties.  Click in the box that says "Use following IP address" and enter the information that has been shown in IPCONFIG report for your connection to the Wired Local network above.  Do the same for "use the following DNS servers."  Make sure that you type the IP address, mask subnet, default gateway, and DNS addresses exactly the same than the connection to the Local network was when he got the information from the router.
