WRT54GSv3_4.71.4.001_fw, 3.bin - KILL WRT54GS router V1.0

Members of the Forum,

Be aware that applying the firmware update WRT54GSv3_4.71.4.001_fw, for Version 1.0 router WRT54GS 3.bin can kill your router and technical support and customer service care.

I used products Linksys for the past 10 years, cable products and wireless at home and that the rail infrastructure for my firm. I have also successfully applied probably 15-20 updates over the years. There is a real problem with the WRT54GSv3_4.71.4.001_fw, 3.bin firmware update fries routers v1.0.

Symptoms:

Update applies normally, with the final screen acknowledging "Updated successfully applied". These are the last words that your router will never speak.

The router remains inoperative:

: Power blinks dry.5 interval.

DMZ flashes: interval of ~ 2 sec.

Rest of the lights: intermittent

5 s, 30 s and 60 s reset make no difference

No communication with the router via http or ftp on 192.168.1.1 at all

(Mod Note: under the guidance of the compliance of the directive.)

After my unsuccessful communications with Linksys tech support and customer service, I went looking for a way to revive the router has left by the update of the firmware. Thank God he has really well informed of some people on the net who know the Linksys routers. (Why do they know more than a Linksys technical support? Which are supposed to be experts on the Linksys products anyway?)

With the help of http://voidmain.is-a-geek.org:8100/redhat/wrt54g_revival.html and http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Recover_from_a_Bad_Flash, I could recover my router after bad flash. Why is it not this information on Linksys website? It was exactly what I needed to get the router working again.

* NOTE: Before starting any operation flash, unplug all the cables, network and wireless connections and 30/30/30 reset. (continually hold the button of reset for 30 seconds while the router is powered [do not let go the reset], unpower the router for 30 seconds, [still do not let go the reset], repower the router for 30 seconds, and then release the reset button and wait for 60 seconds to see if your router can initiate the Linux kernel or accept an update of the firmware before resorting to the disassembly. Other recovery options are contained in the dd - wrt page above. Work through these before continue.

The solution that worked, summed up the viodmain page above was:

(1) remove the router:

(2) now locate the flash chip. On my Board, it is clearly labeled 'Flash Intel'. You will see that at each corner of the chip is a large number of white. Notice to the upper right of the chip is the number '1', top left is the number of '24', at the bottom left is the number "25", bottom right is the number "48". Between number 1 and 24, you will see a row of 24 silver pins. Locate the pins 15 & 16 on flash memory chip. I used a "Sharpie" to mark the location of the pins for idenification easy.

(3) prepare your computer to transfer the new firmware. You configure computer with static IP/subnet 192.168.1.2/255.255.255.0 mask. If you have both wired and wireless cards (like a laptop) there is no need to touch the wireless configuration. Simply configure the Wired card with static IP address. You can also set the gateway to 192.168.1.1 on the map. (if you don't have tftp on your computer, go download now before continuing.

(4) now use a cord (short ethernet) to connect the network port on your computer to a port on the Linksys router LAN router. Go ahead and prepare the required tftp command. I used a text editor and put the following commands on separate lines, and then just "copied" the text while I was ready to 'stick' in the command line once the router is in integrated security mode. I used:

TFTP

Conn
192.168.1.1
bin
put WRT54GSv3_4.71.4.001_fw, 3.bin

(5) start a ping to 192.168.1.1.

* Do NOT turn on the router again *.

(6) short pin 15 & 16 on Flash memory chip (if you checked the pins that it makes it easier). Instead of screwdrivers of jeweler described by voidmain, I used an old dental probe which was ideal to hold firmly (a safety pin or thumb tack also will do) just paste the tool of choice between the pins that the flash memory chip output pins, rather than between the solder on the card where the pins to connect.

* Now turn the router *.

(7), look for a successful ping response from the router. If no response received ping, no unpower the router, tell the pins and try again. It took me about 5 tries to do things. Once you get the ping response, cancel ping quickly and immediately stick tftp for command line commands to download the firmware. If you receive a "timed" message out from tftp, it means that you haven't started downloading fast enough. Will repeat the short/repower not powered and download process faster this time until it works. My attempts, it seems that you have on the 10 second window to start downloading after you put the router mode security integrated with the short.

(8) replace the router in case of success

Good luck! (What do you have to lose? If you are reading this, you already have a blue paper weight. Don't worry, you will always have at least when you're done ;-) However, on the other hand, if download of failsafe is successful - you have your router return faithful and ready to go!

  • WRT54GS ROUTER PROBLEM

I HAVE A WRT54GS ROUTER. TRIED TO PUT IN PLACE. AFTER DOING SO, IT NOT CONNECTING A WIRELESS LESS I CONNECT TO A HIGH SPEED ON THE CONPUTER CONNECTION. SO, IN SUMMARY, FOR A WIRELESS CONNECTION, I MUST FIRST CONNECT TO A HIGH SPEED CONNECTION ON MY LAPTOP THEN CLICK ON CONNECTION WIRELESS AND PLUG THAT IN TOO. THEN EVERYTHING WORKS FINE. OR IS NOT CONNECTED WILL NOT LET THIS WORK. AND YES I'M NOT CONNECTED AT ALL TIMES.

    Thank you

I see. Do you remember your username and password?

You need the router to do the PPPoE authentication rather than on your computer. In this way, you don't have to click on the broadband.

Connect to the router configuration page and follow this procedure. Start with step 7.

  • Vs BDP-S350 WRT54G Router

    Hello

I buy a Sony Blue Ray BDP-S350 and I try to connect to the Internet to update firmware and option BD-Live.  The Blue Ray was wired connect the WRT54G Router, but it can't see the network.  The led corresponding to the port for the Blue Ray on router is turned on.  The configuration of the Blue Ray was "Using DHCP".  I try to put an IP static, but without success.

I had a special configuration to the WRT54G?

    Thanks for your help.

    René

I guess that your WRT54G is set on "IP address local" 192.168.1.1 and that your DHCP server is "activated" and the range of DHCP servers is always set to the default value of 192.168.1.100 thru 192.168.1.149 - is that correct?

If so, your Blu - ray player should be connected when the option "using DHCP".  If you have a long cable (especially more than 30 feet), make sure that you use a cat5e or cat6 high quality cable.  Have you tried to close down the Blu - ray the WRT54G and using a short cable that you know works?  If this is not the case, try this and see if it works.

If you can not always get the Blu - ray to connect, then try to set the Blu - ray in a static LAN IP address.  Note that a static LAN IP address must be outside the range of the DHCP server, and it cannot end with 0, 1 and 255.  For example, try 192.168.1.20 (assuming that you do not use this address elsewhere).  You must also set the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, default gateway to 192.168.1.1 and the DNS server on 192.168.1.1.  Note that some devices may not use DNS server to the proxy of the router at 192.168.1.1, so if this setting does not work, then insert your real address in Server Internet DNS (found in the router on the status tab).

Please let me know if it worked or not.

I have a wrt54g router and want to separate clients WLAN access to computers and servers on the local network... in other words, I want to make a 'guest' network I put the router in 'router' instead of 'bridge' mode I want just to be sure if it's the best thing I can do in terms of transforming the network wireless in an isolated.

  • Not to access Internet using WRT54G Router wireless

I'll try to provide as much information as possible. My mother-in-law gave me his wrt54g router so that we could get Netflix through our Wii. I have an old Compaq laptop for a year and am running Windows 7 with a wireless Internet connection through my service provider. I installed the router with no problems and was able to do online with the Wii. However, I am more able to get Internet access on my desk. It shows that my Internet is connected but it displays "no network access.  I had on fine at first, then I went on the 192.168.1.1 site to configure my data.  I changed my time zone and then to secure my connection.  I don't remember the exact option that I chose, but I think it was something like personal WAP2. As soon as I selected the screen has frozen and I can not access this site or access the Internet through the router. If I unplug my Ethernet cable from the router and plug it directly into the pc I get very well online. I know that this router works with a PPPoE connection, because it's what my mother-in-law a. tried to get support from my ISP, but they left open-mouthed via chat.  Can someone help me understand how to get this router to allow me access so I can use office and the Wii?  Thank you.

Fix it!  I called my local service provider and explains the problem. He had me go in the settings of the router and change the connection between "Connect on Demand ' and 'Keep Alive '.  Everything works fine now.  Thank you!

  • Problem with my WRT54G Router.

    Hello!

I have a problem with my WRT54G Router. From time to time, he will leave the connection but it back a few seconds later. Now, it is an annoyance, whenever I try to stream a video game or even simply online.

The problem could be related to my modem? Or my ISP? The router itself has 2 wired computers sharing the internet connection. The connection is dropped on both computers, of course.

Now, this situation can also hit its use torrent? I was the client download of World of Warcraft official website and it seemed to keep the speed of around 25 KB/s. That really seems low given the amount of seeders and the overall performance of my connection.

I appreciate any help and I can also provide any additional information.

Try to reflash/upgrade of the firmware of the router. You can download the firmware from the linksys Web site. After upgrading the firmware, reset the router, power cycle it and re - configure the router from scratch.

  • Could not save the WRT54G Router settings!

Recently, I have reset the Linksys WRT54G Router because I can't get the page with a note to "CONTINUE", I used to have. I can also save the new setting. What comes out is a blank page. Pls help me. Thank you.

This problem is usually caused by suboptimal communication between the computer and the router. The most common cause for this is a computer software firewall problem, but there are also several other possible causes:

To view web pages of the router (and to solve problems "Cannot save settings"):

You don't need an Internet connection. 'web Pages' of the router are integrated into the router.
Use Internet Explorer, it usually works.
    JavaScript must be enabled.
Use a computer that is connected to the router.
In the non-working computer, temporarily disable your firewall software.

Point your browser to 192.168.1.1, and then connect to your router. Your username must be left blank. Your password is "admin" (without the quotes), unless you changed it.

If you use Zone Alarm, do a right-click on the ZA icon in the taskbar (bottom right of screen) then click on "Shutdown ZoneAlarm" and see if that solves your problem. If this does not work, try the following with Zone Alarm: open the control center ZAISS, go to privacy, then temporarily disable Ad Blocking and Cookie Control and see if it solves your problem.

Some Zone Alarm users reported that the addition of 192.168.1.1 to their address list "of trust" solved the problem. This trick can also work with other firewalls.

If you use Noton Internet Security with the add-on Pack, don't forget to disable the blocker and ad blocker. Some users have reported that they needed to uninstall all Norton Add-on Pack.

If you can not get anything to 192.168.1.1 then perhaps this is not the address of the router. Go to 'Start' > all programs > Accessories > command prompt.
A black DOS window will appear. Type "ipconfig" (with no quotes), and press the Enter key. Look at the "default gateway". It is 192.168.1.1? Point your browser to the 'default gateway', can connect you to your router.

If the above fails, unplug your modem router, then try again. If it solves your problem, then you probably a "modem-router" rather than a regular modem. A report with this problem and also specify the brand and exact model of your modem (not router) number.

If all above fails them, turn off your entire system, unplug it from the wall, wait a minute, then lights up, then try again.

If all the above tips fail, then reset the default router: power down the router and unplug all the wires. Wait a minute. Switch on the router, let it fully boot (1-2 minutes), then press and hold the reset for 30 seconds button, then release the button and allow the router to reset and restart (2-3 minutes). Turn off the router. Wait a minute. To connect to a computer, cable, a router's LAN port. Initialize the system. It should work.

If you still have problems, then you must download and install (or reinstall) the latest firmware for your router. After the update of the firmware, you must reset the default router, and then configure the router again from scratch. If you have saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.

  • Replacement of the WRT54G Router

I have a router that my cable company feel needs replacing. I don't really know if it's true, because they tried to sell me a new router or rent one for me. In any case I guess that replacement is necessary. I'm not a geek and my existing WRT54G Router was installed by someone else who went through all the work to set up my network home. Ideally, I would buy the same model router and use existing lines to connect the new router, thus reducing to a minimum the installation time and trouble. Of all the posts on this site, I am sure that installing a new router is not easy to do and is subject to many 'traps '. People spend days, installation of a router and a good number of them fail. It seems incredible to me that a manufacturer could produce a product that causes so much wasted time of clients and anguish.

I am running Win XP ver. 3 with IE version 7. I'd like some experienced advice on which model of router would be ideal as a replacement for my WRT54G that was enough for my home network. So I would advice on the question of whether I should try to do it myself or hire a geek to do to me. I have next to zero patience and no tolerance for poorly written instructions. For those who have traveled down the road, I'm ready to go, tell him from me right.

Router WRT54G is one of the best routers.

Choose the router from Linksys E series (model E1000, E2000 and E3000). These routers are very easy to install. The speed and intensity of the signal will be very good compared to the WRT54G Router.

You need not hire a technician to install the router. You will get a Cisco software connect with this router. Just run the CD and Cisco connect software will do everything for you. It will protect the wireless automatically for you.

  • WRT54GS router v.7 WILL NOT CONNECT

Hello, recently my WRT54GS router v.7 has stopped working. I tried to reset it, but I still have no internet connection. Power, WLAN, Internet and connected Ethernet lights are on when it is connected, but I can't always connect to the internet. I'm running off my pathetic motorola modem. I even spend all the Ethernet cables to see if the cable has gone bad, it has worked. I have Windows XP, I don't have the installation disc, but I have a digital copy of it. Sometimes I play Xbox LIVE. I can't even connect to the network normally use, because it cannot be found. Can someone help me please?

Who is your Internet service provider, I think you have to Hard Reset your router and re - configure the settings on it again. Press and hold the button to reset for a minute... Release the reset button... Unplug the router power cable, wait 1 minute and re-connect the power cable... Now re - configure your router...

  • I am unable to connect to the Linksys WRT54G Router with wired connection to Office XP.

My two laptops (XP and a Win7) will be connected to the router wireless and wired (ethernet). When it is plugged directly into the DSL modem, the Office connects and works very well. This problem started when I had to replace the DSL modem.

I inherited this problem for my elderly mother... and it all started because they gave me the router password wrong, who now works (router has been reset) on two laptops, but when connected, the Office doesn't even show a light of connection on the router except during startup. I no longer get a window of logon passwork for the router, and I am unable to connect/ping the router in the office. (192.168.1.1)

I would like to clarify a few things.

    1. two laptops work fine with cable connections and wireless through the WRT54G.

2 desktop PC, which has only a wired connection, does not connect successfully.

    3. the symptoms of the failure of the desktop connection to are that the link on the router at the start light flashes during initialization of the PC but then will Dim.

    4. when the desktop PC trying to connect to the internet, it fails.

5 when the desktop PC try to connect to the administration WRT54g page it fails.

    6. when the desktop computer try PIING the router at 192.168.1.1 IP address it fails.

    These points are correct?

Assuming this is correct, open a command prompt and type

    IPCONFIG/ALL

The output of the command should provide some information about the current state of the network connection.

It would be useful that you posted this here release.

The absence of a link light can be your main symptom and may be due to several reasons. He probably has an associate status "media disconnected" in IPCONFIG for the network connection.

This could be caused by a bad network cable or a network connection disabled in the properties of the network on the PC. Small jets knowing the ot IPCONFIG output is would help more.

Post this info if you can.

    Good luck

  • WRT54G Router must be the default factory restore to work

    Hello

I have a router WRT54G 3 version it works fine but suddenly stops working. When this happens, I don't have access to the internet or on the pc connected directly to the router or the wireless-connected devices

I tried to powercycle the moden router and releasing and renewing DHCP and it does not work yet.

The solution I found is to restore default settings and reconfigure all the settings wireless again.

If someone knows why this happens, if there is a better solution would be great.

    Thanks to all in advance

Might be time for a new router. Ive had a couple of neighbors with these old routers and they seem to be 'exhausted '. Firmware flashing does not seem to help and not sure it's even now available since its so old. If you go with another, not to buy. If you do not need to be able to load 3 party firmware so don't spend a fortune for one who is capable of it. If this wrt54g was enough then look who has tapes times 2.4 and 5 ghz, but in price about $50 dollars range should be good. Good luck

  • ASUS Infinity wifi connects to the WRT54G Router and network, but not the internet

I have a WRT54G work throughout our House. It has 4 ports for wired ethernet and multiple wireless connections works without any problem. Currently my Droid phone, Tablet iPad and 2 laptops to connect and move to the internet via a wireless connection.

Today, I bought a new Asus TF700T Infinity tablet.  I can so he can connect to the router, see the network and the router can see the Tablet Infinity (assigns an IP address), but no internet access.

I need some ideas here, or suggestions as to what tools I can use to see where the traffic of the Tablet is blocked.  The newspaper on the router shows me nothing. I guess there is a port blocked by the router, but no idea those who.

Tried reset hard and a firmware upgrade does not.  In fact the latest firmware upgrade (4.21.5) watered the entire network, so I started 4.21.1

Maybe it's not a router issue maybe that's the problem with the Tablet? Can ping you the ip address assigned to the ipad? You can also try t o assign a static settings on your tablet. If these things still do not work, you may need to contact asus support.

  • Internet connection no longer works with WRT54G Router V3

I had a router WRT54G V3 works successfully for a few years now, with a couple of PC wireless via a cable modem Comcast as my ISP.  All of a sudden yesterday, no PC can access the internet.  No changes had been made to the router.

I contacted Comcast and they had me of course wire hard one from my PC to the cable modem.  It worked and I was able to access the internet.  However, when I tried to put the router in place (in a wired or wireless), I couldn't access the internet.

I tried after the Linksys online troubleshooting documentation.  The lights that lights turn on on the router are on.  I can access the router setup web page that displays the settings still intact.  I tried to go through the sequencing of power without result.  Comcast says my router is the culprit of my problem, but I don't know why it would suddenly stop working.  My wireless printer still works as well as it detects a signal and my PC shows that it is connected, but no internet access is possible.

What should I do?  Are there other available diagnostic tools?  Cat people won't help because I am out of warranty.

First update the firmware for routers to the last level.  Once hard reset the router and reconfigure from scratch.  Now, try to connect again.

  • configure my WRT54G Router as access point?

Hi all, hoping someone can explain the process of setting up my WRT54G as access point to connect to my new WRT310N router. I get under the floor and string a long ethernet cable to add wireless across the House but I don't know how to properly prepare for the router, if I can set up once it is hooked, etc.. ? I've read conflicting reports on the question if I need to change the SSID and if devices hooked to the point of access can still obtain IP addresses dynamically.

The mixture of N and G will be as problematic?

    best,

    Chris

    For General configuration, see here.

Use identical settings SSID und on both wireless security. Use many different channels. Then you have a roaming wireless network.
