Replacement of the WRT54G Router

I have a router that my cable company feel needs replacing. I don't really know if it's true, because they tried to sell me a new router or rent one for me. In any case I guess that replacement is necessary. I'm not a geek and my existing WRT54G Router was installed by someone else who went through all the work to set up my network home. Ideally, I would buy the same model router and use existing lines to connect the new router, thus reducing to a minimum the installation time and trouble. Of all the posts on this site, I am sure that installing a new router is not easy to do and is subject to many 'traps '. People spend days, installation of a router and a good number of them fail. It seems incredible to me that a manufacturer could produce a product that causes so much wasted time of clients and anguish.

I am running Win XP ver. 3 with IE version 7. I'd like some experienced advice on which model of router would be ideal as a replacement for my WRT54G that was enough for my home network. So I would advice on the question of whether I should try to do it myself or hire a geek to do to me. I have next to zero patience and no tolerance for poorly written instructions. For those who have traveled down the road, I'm ready to go, tell him from me right.

Router WRT54G is one of the best routers.

Choose the router from Linksys E series (model E1000, E2000 and E3000). These routers are very easy to install. The speed and intensity of the signal will be very good compared to the WRT54G Router.

You need not hire a technician to install the router. You will get a Cisco software connect with this router. Just run the CD and Cisco connect software will do everything for you. It will protect the wireless automatically for you.

  • Could not save the WRT54G Router settings!

Recently, I have reset the Linksys WRT54G Router because I can't get the page with a note to "CONTINUE", I used to have. I can also save the new setting. What comes out is a blank page. Pls help me. Thank you.

This problem is usually caused by suboptimal communication between the computer and the router. The most common cause for this is a computer software firewall problem, but there are also several other possible causes:

To view web pages of the router (and to solve problems "Cannot save settings"):

You don't need an Internet connection. 'web Pages' of the router are integrated into the router.
Use Internet Explorer, it usually works.
    JavaScript must be enabled.
Use a computer that is connected to the router.
In the non-working computer, temporarily disable your firewall software.

Point your browser to 192.168.1.1, and then connect to your router. Your username must be left blank. Your password is "admin" (without the quotes), unless you changed it.

If you use Zone Alarm, do a right-click on the ZA icon in the taskbar (bottom right of screen) then click on "Shutdown ZoneAlarm" and see if that solves your problem. If this does not work, try the following with Zone Alarm: open the control center ZAISS, go to privacy, then temporarily disable Ad Blocking and Cookie Control and see if it solves your problem.

Some Zone Alarm users reported that the addition of 192.168.1.1 to their address list "of trust" solved the problem. This trick can also work with other firewalls.

If you use Noton Internet Security with the add-on Pack, don't forget to disable the blocker and ad blocker. Some users have reported that they needed to uninstall all Norton Add-on Pack.

If you can not get anything to 192.168.1.1 then perhaps this is not the address of the router. Go to 'Start' > all programs > Accessories > command prompt.
A black DOS window will appear. Type "ipconfig" (with no quotes), and press the Enter key. Look at the "default gateway". It is 192.168.1.1? Point your browser to the 'default gateway', can connect you to your router.

If the above fails, unplug your modem router, then try again. If it solves your problem, then you probably a "modem-router" rather than a regular modem. A report with this problem and also specify the brand and exact model of your modem (not router) number.

If all above fails them, turn off your entire system, unplug it from the wall, wait a minute, then lights up, then try again.

If all the above tips fail, then reset the default router: power down the router and unplug all the wires. Wait a minute. Switch on the router, let it fully boot (1-2 minutes), then press and hold the reset for 30 seconds button, then release the button and allow the router to reset and restart (2-3 minutes). Turn off the router. Wait a minute. To connect to a computer, cable, a router's LAN port. Initialize the system. It should work.

If you still have problems, then you must download and install (or reinstall) the latest firmware for your router. After the update of the firmware, you must reset the default router, and then configure the router again from scratch. If you have saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.

  • ASUS Infinity wifi connects to the WRT54G Router and network, but not the internet

I have a WRT54G work throughout our House. It has 4 ports for wired ethernet and multiple wireless connections works without any problem. Currently my Droid phone, Tablet iPad and 2 laptops to connect and move to the internet via a wireless connection.

Today, I bought a new Asus TF700T Infinity tablet.  I can so he can connect to the router, see the network and the router can see the Tablet Infinity (assigns an IP address), but no internet access.

I need some ideas here, or suggestions as to what tools I can use to see where the traffic of the Tablet is blocked.  The newspaper on the router shows me nothing. I guess there is a port blocked by the router, but no idea those who.

Tried reset hard and a firmware upgrade does not.  In fact the latest firmware upgrade (4.21.5) watered the entire network, so I started 4.21.1

Maybe it's not a router issue maybe that's the problem with the Tablet? Can ping you the ip address assigned to the ipad? You can also try t o assign a static settings on your tablet. If these things still do not work, you may need to contact asus support.

  • LG Wireless adapter upward adjustment to work with the WRT54G Router

My parents recently bought a TV high definition LG and they got a wireless adapter to LG for it (YEAR-WF100). My brother was able to insall, but when trying to connect to the router, we get an error message saying DHCP must be enabled. From what I see when I go in the settings of the router, DHCP is enabled. We are pulling our hair out trying to figure out what we need on the router so that it works settings. We tried the two setting up the connection manually and automatically with the IP, gateway, etc. I don't know what other information is needed, but I'll give you more details if anyone has any ideas. We have also two apps created by Applications and games tab (Nintendo DS and Wii). I do not know if that might interfere with anything. Any help would be appreciated!

After spending two hours on the phone with the Geek Squad (Fortunately it was free), we found the problem is that the router was set to WEP settings, and it must be WPA. Too bad the Nintendo DS only supports WEP. I guess I can just switch back to WEP when I go online on the DS. Thank you for taking the time to help!

  • Vs BDP-S350 WRT54G Router

    Hello

I buy a Sony Blue Ray BDP-S350 and I try to connect to the Internet to update firmware and option BD-Live.  The Blue Ray was wired connect the WRT54G Router, but it can't see the network.  The led corresponding to the port for the Blue Ray on router is turned on.  The configuration of the Blue Ray was "Using DHCP".  I try to put an IP static, but without success.

I had a special configuration to the WRT54G?

    Thanks for your help.

    René

I guess that your WRT54G is set on "IP address local" 192.168.1.1 and that your DHCP server is "activated" and the range of DHCP servers is always set to the default value of 192.168.1.100 thru 192.168.1.149 - is that correct?

If so, your Blu - ray player should be connected when the option "using DHCP".  If you have a long cable (especially more than 30 feet), make sure that you use a cat5e or cat6 high quality cable.  Have you tried to close down the Blu - ray the WRT54G and using a short cable that you know works?  If this is not the case, try this and see if it works.

If you can not always get the Blu - ray to connect, then try to set the Blu - ray in a static LAN IP address.  Note that a static LAN IP address must be outside the range of the DHCP server, and it cannot end with 0, 1 and 255.  For example, try 192.168.1.20 (assuming that you do not use this address elsewhere).  You must also set the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, default gateway to 192.168.1.1 and the DNS server on 192.168.1.1.  Note that some devices may not use DNS server to the proxy of the router at 192.168.1.1, so if this setting does not work, then insert your real address in Server Internet DNS (found in the router on the status tab).

Please let me know if it worked or not.

  • I am unable to connect to the Linksys WRT54G Router with wired connection to Office XP.

My two laptops (XP and a Win7) will be connected to the router wireless and wired (ethernet). When it is plugged directly into the DSL modem, the Office connects and works very well. This problem started when I had to replace the DSL modem.

I inherited this problem for my elderly mother... and it all started because they gave me the router password wrong, who now works (router has been reset) on two laptops, but when connected, the Office doesn't even show a light of connection on the router except during startup. I no longer get a window of logon passwork for the router, and I am unable to connect/ping the router in the office. (192.168.1.1)

I would like to clarify a few things.

    1. two laptops work fine with cable connections and wireless through the WRT54G.

2 desktop PC, which has only a wired connection, does not connect successfully.

    3. the symptoms of the failure of the desktop connection to are that the link on the router at the start light flashes during initialization of the PC but then will Dim.

    4. when the desktop PC trying to connect to the internet, it fails.

5 when the desktop PC try to connect to the administration WRT54g page it fails.

    6. when the desktop computer try PIING the router at 192.168.1.1 IP address it fails.

    These points are correct?

Assuming this is correct, open a command prompt and type

    IPCONFIG/ALL

The output of the command should provide some information about the current state of the network connection.

It would be useful that you posted this here release.

The absence of a link light can be your main symptom and may be due to several reasons. He probably has an associate status "media disconnected" in IPCONFIG for the network connection.

This could be caused by a bad network cable or a network connection disabled in the properties of the network on the PC. Small jets knowing the ot IPCONFIG output is would help more.

Post this info if you can.

    Good luck

  • MFP M175nw + Speedport W 724V (Telekom) - WIFI connection does not work after replacement of the router

    Hello community,

My parents at home to replace their router with a newer model (Speedport W 724 V Telekom, German) due to an electrical fault.

Until printing today via WIFI on the 100 HP LaserJet M175nw MFP color worked like a charm. But now, there is no link with the new router via WIFI and it is not possible to connect by using WPS (they really tried everything). Just connect and print via USB in Windows 7 works... But they need to print from iOS (iPad) devices.

I went through the terrible (long) manual - to discover that it may be a problem with the WIFI (ad hoc/infrastructure) connection method. But my parents were not able to change this method.

I would therefore ask you help on the following:
-How can I change the method of connection and connect the printer using WPS?
-How can I reset the printer completely (reset to default values)?
-How to print the configuration menu? I googled and it said to push the Cancel button (X) for more than 5 seconds to print this page. Is this correct?
-How to find out the IP address of the printer to access webadmin interface? I have now, there is a, because it is mentioned in a ubuntu forum: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2193532
    - And finally: how to do a firmware update? It seems that there is a newer version available on that model and some said that connection problems could be resolved by upgrading the firmware.

Please answer detailed possible, as I don't have much experience with Windows & PC in general.

Thank you all for your support

  • Help: Laserjet M1536dnf does not scan after replacement of the router

    Hello

I have a LJ1536 that has worked well until I had to replace my network router after it failed. Now, I can print on both computers I have in the same local network, copy locally in the printer, but will not scan. The printer is connected to the router via an access point configured as client and connected to the printer wireless. After the failure this AP router had to be reconfigured to the new router.

I tried scanning disabling firewall and anti-virus, delete and reinstall all software using the latest version on the web and nothing. FX HP Toolbox works very well. HP Print and doctor Scan did not help. WIA service is Started (auto mode) on the computers.

I get the message on the two computers during an attempt of analysis:

    Inaccessible scanner

Scanner communication cannot be established. If make sure that your product is powered, check the connection and make sure that your network is working properly. If these conditions are correct, restart the product and try to scan the image.

If you are running a software firewall, it can block scan communication. Please visit www.hp.com/go/wirelessprinting for help to configure your firewall.

    Configuration:

Windows 7 64-bit on both computers

    LF1536 FW dated 14/01/2013

    Any suggestion?

    Hi Jhenrichs,

Thanks for the reply.  If the AP was configured to router manufacturer's specifications, it should allow a communication as it did with the previous configuration.  Check the below settings that may fix the problem.

    The AP settings:

    1. make sure that port forwarding is disabled

2 disable DHCP (this should only be enabled on real router), it can be set to automatic or static, but disable DHCP on the access point

    I hope this helps!

  • WRT54G Router must be the default factory restore to work

    Hello

I have a router WRT54G 3 version it works fine but suddenly stops working. When this happens, I don't have access to the internet or on the pc connected directly to the router or the wireless-connected devices

I tried to powercycle the moden router and releasing and renewing DHCP and it does not work yet.

The solution I found is to restore default settings and reconfigure all the settings wireless again.

If someone knows why this happens, if there is a better solution would be great.

    Thanks to all in advance

Might be time for a new router. Ive had a couple of neighbors with these old routers and they seem to be 'exhausted '. Firmware flashing does not seem to help and not sure it's even now available since its so old. If you go with another, not to buy. If you do not need to be able to load 3 party firmware so don't spend a fortune for one who is capable of it. If this wrt54g was enough then look who has tapes times 2.4 and 5 ghz, but in price about $50 dollars range should be good. Good luck

  • Connect the wrt54g with wrt160n v2 router

    Hi all

I have a PPPoE internet connection

    I have 2 routers first is wrt54g second wrt160n v2

I connect to the internet for the internet port of wrt54g

can I make network ssid (linksys1)

can I connect ethernet port wire to the first router wrt54g to the port at the second internet router wrt160n

I have disable fun DHCP. on the second router to do as only access points

then I put the network SSiD (linksys2) for the second router

    connections is Ok

the problem is that the internet is always what FastConnect throw the first SSID router (linksys1)

but when connect to second router ssid network (linksys2) its slow or limited (a few times)

    who is wrong?

Please follow the instructions in my previous post.  (Note: the solution posted by death is a 'unique network' - it does not create two separate networks, so it does not work for you.)

Since you want two separate networks, you must use two different SSIDS.  In addition, please choose a unique SSID.  Please do not use "linksys" or any variant of "linksys".  This will only cause you problems at some point in the future.  Use something unique, like "topgun" or "Lampshade."

  • Spend the WRT54GS to WRT54G2 Router?

I am running the Linksys WRT54GS router.  A family member gave me a unopened, still in sealed box WRT54G2 router which they never used.  For routers that I have to start all over with the installation of the new router or is there a setting in the configuration of the web which would allow me to simply select an update of the ot the router option to the new?

You can just save the settings of the router and copy it to the new. However, you can take a screenshot of all the settings on each tab, and then do the same on the new router.

  • Need to modernize the modem; How do I 'plan' relocation WRT54G Router for wired / wireless

I went late to upgrade my modem, and from what I've read in the comments, do a modem/router combo doesn't seem to be the best thing to do in what concerns the issues of reliability and range.  So, I want to upgrade my modem & then use the same router/access point that I currently have.  However, I've read other users with problems by accessing the control panel after you connect to a new modem... so want to know the information that I need to have before starting this project.

Is this to say that I'm going to basically start early and set up my home network all over again?

I'm pretty tech-savy... but I do not enough to really launch the project & see where it takes me... I don't have the TIME!  Laughing out loud!

Thanks for any help/advice anyone can offer!

    Jane

Really, it depends on the type of settings that your ISP would put on the new modem. If the configuration of the new modem would be the same with the old, so there is no need for you to make any changes on the router. Simply connect the new modem, perform a powercycle by unplugging the power cord from the modem and router and it should work. However, if it is not, what you can do is to reset the router and reconfigure. The following links help you reconfigure the router after a reset.

Setting up a Linksys router with cable Internet service

Setting up a Linksys router for DSL Internet connection

Setting up a router with a static IP address account

  • Disorder of the WRT54G Wireless - G Router!

I had problems with my internet connections for the last days. Initially, I called my ISP because I suddenly lost all connectivity. They told me to unplug the router and just connect my access directly from the modem cable to the Tower, since, on their side, they saw that I was connected to the internet and also had a router. They told me to leave the router disconnected for a few hours for the cache to eliminate because it did take in the change IP. So I did, and a few hours later, I've hung up and was back on the web. But I noticed a problem. There are a few sites that I have been unable to access. The taskbar would be simply read 'wait... '. "and then I get the problem loading Page telling me that the connection was reset, or that I had a firewall problem. I checked my firewall and security programs to ensure that my settings were allowing connections to these sites. Indeed, they are. I googled my problem "cannot access some Web sites" to see what I could do with little success. I remembered what the tech said on the router and took a suggestion from one of the tech sites to check another browser to see if it works there. Indeed, I met the same problem there. I plugged my connection from modem to the Tower again and I was able to access these sites once more. So I thought that it is a problem with my router. On top of that, wireless connections can be made. They're going through. I tried to restart the router again and used the disc that came with it to implement thinking it would help me. In addition, I accessed the site router to change the settings. Nothing has helped or worked. Hiding what ever is there is always here, or any problem with do not accept IP addresses is always present. I rebooted my system and I tried to access the router site again, only to be blocked as some other sites. I'm really worried here. I tried the command prompt and: ipconfig / flushdns version don't renew method still no good. Just what is wrong with my router? How can I get this resolved. Why are these inaccessible sites now and how to get what is mucking up the DNS recognition to clear and it can work properly again? I got it on DHCP so it can automatically recognize changes. My IP is not static. I'm really worried here. Help, please!

    I have it!

    Ok. I did two things:

    1. I changed my port (just in case).

    2. I did a hard reset on my router (did not notice the button next to the original cable entry).

I put off the power to the modem, router and my PC. Then I turned on my modem, enabled on the router port, turned the router back, did a hard reset and he waited a bit. Then I turned on my PC.

After that I did my own usual drive, consulted the web and done a clean cache of the browser (just in case). My little brother to come and do a test to see if it connects wireless to...

    ALTO! It's trendy!

I tried the sites that I have problems with and SUCCESS! They connected!

IT WORKS NOW! I am so happy!

Thank you all for your help! It is appreciated!

  • Connection EA4500 to replace the faulty router

I just buy the EA4500 but currently connected an old Linksys router which is cutting regularly.

Until I connect the new router I'm afraid that it won't work with other PC and an iPhone if I don't use the same password as before. This is not serious and the reset the password or a new makes my concern moot.

It must be nice to use the same network name and the password for the new router. Your devices must then connect automatically as you use the same name and password for your network. If they will find it difficult to connect to the new router, you can forget on your wireless network, and then try to connect again.
