XLD to convert FLAC ALAC?

I have a large collection of FLACs I want to convert to the ALAC, so I can play in iTunes.  I play to use XLD to do the job.

For more than ten years that I converted a file.  I don't know what software I used at the time, but I remember getting angry because when I transcoded files, he would sometimes mess up the gaps between songs.  Sort of classic plays and live concerts which segue into one another would suddenly have a short sound space between songs.

To this day, I don't know what I did wrong for 10 years and there is - or how make 100% sure that it can't now.

Listening to each album as I transcode (to confirm the specific deficiencies) is not an option, because the collection of FLACs I intend to convert is too large.  And Yes, I intend to delete the files FLAC after I transcode them, transcode so accurate is essential to the project.

I've heard of software that checks the CRC when extracting CD (although I have no idea what it means).  If I use XLD, does anyone know if there is a way to confirm each transcode from FLAC to ALAC, so I can be assured that the gaps are not be discarded until the song?

John,

Are you sure that the ALAC is capable of preventing that?  Mp3 format explicitly rejects the possibility to avoid presenting these gaps audible in patterns between tracks, while FLAC argues that it is possible.  I've not heard one way or another on the ALAC.  If she can't, more precise transcoding in the world will always have the problem.

  • What is the best audio format to import a CD?

    Dear people of the communities,

What is the best format in terms of better sound quality for an import CD, regardless of the size of the file, just a pure sound quality?

The goal is to save my music library CD and vinyl in a computer/drive and listening using a computer connected to a sound system 'Stereo' (not ' Surround', regular stereo) with speakers high quality stereo (L + R).

So far, I've downloaded using a 320 kbps MP3 format. Listening to a CD quality is very poor.

I use iTunes 10.7.x (as well as iTunes 12.x on a newer platform, but imports of CD I use version 10.7)

    All parameters are the following:

    Import using MP3 encoder =

    Parameters = custom

Use the Error Correction = No.

    ---------------------------------------------

    Stereo BitRate = 320 Kbps

    VBR = No

    = 44,100 kHz sampling rate

    Channels = stereo

    Stereo mode = Normal

    Smart encoding = No

Filter Freq below 10 Hz = No

I think he wouldn't be WAV course, AIFF and Apple Lossless I know are both better quality, but using an Apple encoder can restrict what will be the player who is also important.

    Thank you

    Alon

    .

Any lossless format will offer the best audio quality.  The available choices:

    • WAV is probably the most widely supported but it lacks the ability to incorporate metadata or illustrations, so while you can move the audio between different systems files as soon as you go outside iTunes you will lose all the artist / album / song information.
    • Apple Lossless (ALAC) is definitely the best choice in iTunes - he has the same metadata / support work such as MP3 or AAC and supports full 16/44.1 audio with file sizes about 65% of the equivalent WAV file
    • AIFF is very similar to the ALAC, except that (in the Variant used by iTunes), there is no lossless compression, so the file size will be larger

The determining factor here will be where you intend to use the files - many other readers take in charge of the three options mentioned above, either natively or (for the ALAC and AIFF) using the appropriate plugins.  Unfortunately the lossless codec which has the broad support of all (FLAC) is not supported by iTunes.  There are, however, many utilities out there that can convert between ALAC and FLAC (and vice versa) if that proves necessary.

  • UPNP Audio and Time Capsule

I have 4 Gen Time Capsule.

I have an Arcam AirDAC connected via Ethernet. The AirDAC is an AirPlay / UPNP enabled digital-to-analog converter for audio processing and power of an amplifier.

Arcam say the AirDAC can process all the files an airplay / UPNP device.

So I enabled UPNP (Port Mapping or as Apple calls it) on the TC. What I've done.

But the Arcam app sees nothing. He sees my iPhone music library, but it is a standard feature of iOS. But no matter what I cannot see the audio files in the section shared my TC by using the application.

I don't know if the iPhone gets the TC files then sends them to the DAC - or if its supposed to just 'direct' the AirDAC to find and process the desired files itself on the TC.

Basically I want to just the DAC to treat my library of files FLAC, ALAC, stored on the TC, because they are too large to store on my iPhone / MacBook.

    Any ideas?

So I enabled UPNP (Port Mapping or as Apple calls it) on the TC. What I've done.

Just to be clear... Apple does not support UPNP... and port mapping is not at all the same thing... When you map a port it is corrected... UPNP is an automatic system which opens the ports when necessary, but can negotiate ports that has a fixed layout design can never do.

All of this is irrelevant... UPnP and port forwarding or mapping is entirely to do with remote access to internet files... and the plague of NAT. that is how the router connects us to the internet... It does not in a LAN where all the ports are open by default. You can remove your port cards... they are useless in this configuration.

But no matter what I cannot see the audio files in the section shared my TC by using the application.

There is no server media in the TC... This is nothing more than a dumb box... it stores files... all the intelligence must be managed by the software on your computer or iOS device. Or the media player... what I interpret it DAC is not the case.

Basically I want to just the DAC to treat my library of files FLAC, ALAC, stored on the TC, because they are too large to store on my iPhone / MacBook.

Your player is very probably a streaming device... he can't see the files. Nor can the TC broadcast their... He has no brain.

You must connect to a computer or a more intelligent than a TC device.

Now I don't know the product... So just a quick glance that it is said.

In addition, you can use AirPlay with iDevices running iOS7, to send music to your stereo services such as TuneIn Radio and vTuner Internet radio, as well as streaming music services such as Spotifyand Qobuz.

The airDAC is one of the simplest ways to enjoy your music from your device UPnP, iPhone® / iPad® or computer running iTunes® and brings quality Arcam sound to a whole new generation of music lovers.

I think it's important that you understand... a TC is NOT a upnp device... the port mapping does not make a... and this mixup of terminology does not help.

  • Airport Express via DAC or autonomous DAS to read files without loss of hi res?

An airport express itself to the bottom of the sample of iTunes / music Pure even with out Ethernet and Toslink connection?  I'm debating whether to buy a high-end DAC to go with my AE play albums FLAC, ALAC, or if I need a DAS to do.

So I have an iMac with iTunes and Pure music. I have my AE in an another attachment to my amp Sugden and Pre Amp. EI hard wired to Netwoto with the Ethernet cable and attached to Sugden pre amplifier via analog 3.5 mm to stereo RCA cable.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

    Thank you

An airport express itself to the bottom of the sample of iTunes / music Pure even with out Ethernet and Toslink connection?

Yes, because the AirPlay Protocol is used on the media either wired or wireless and this Protocol is necessary for an AirPlay-ready device like the Express dealing with either analog or digital output stream.

As you know the music Pure has been designed to read audio data directly to an audio interface (such as a DAC) which is connected directly to the computer. When connected to an AirPlay-ready device, she will have to work with what can support AirPlay. As you also know, music Pure offers a high resolution "streaming" ability, via NetSend service, but it is on a different computer by Ethernet, not an AirPlay-ready device.

  • Lengthwise sawing boards

I'm willing to bite the bullet and re - rip my CD collection.  Previously, I ripped using Windows Media Player and ripped to WMA Lossless.  That obviously did not work with the Clip +, so I have been re-extraction of individual CD I wanted / needed.

After reading these forums, I decided to re - rip with Media Monkey and rip in FLAC on my hard drive, then have the MM convert to WMA for use on the Clip (I want to be able to load a lot of different music on the Clip + while I for some mood happens to be in the music).

So, that being said, I have the following questions...

    1. when the ripping to FLAC, MM give me the ability to set the "Compression level".  By default, this value is "6".  Is it a good setting or a lower setting preferable.  I'm not worried about the amount of disk space that will be used since I can get a good 2 TB drive for<>

    2. WMA is a good format for use on the Clip + with respect to the size and the sound quality?

    3. for the conversion of FLAC to WMA, I have the following and do not know what are the best settings:

Type of sample rate, bit rate, sample rate and of channels.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    EricBr

You should be able to just WMAL convert Flac, and do not have to re - rip. Then what about the conversion, there are instructions here in the forum if you are looking for how to replace the BLADE limited mp3 encoder in time in Mediamonkey with a perpetual... do it, then convert your flacs with mediamonkey to implementation VBR(variable bitrate) of ~ 192 Kbps. You can use the predefined setting that says "Standard: VBR ~ 192 Kbps - high quality +", this is a good compromise between his ultimate and save space. MediaMonkey can also ReplayGain for you, which does not work with WMA.

  • What is the purpose of the dithering? Do I need?

I understand that the dithering covers apparent audible differences when converting down types of samples, such as PCM 24 bit to 16-bit PCM. However, I edit audio using the following setings:

    Format: Wave PCM (*.wav, *.bwf)

Type of sample: 192000 Hz, 32-bit

    Bitrate: 24576 Kbps

Format settings: wave non-compressed, Point 64-bit floating (IEEE)

    Markers and other metadata included

Big estimates, such as 6 min = 1 GB file sizes

I then open it in iTunes and convert m4a, ALAC in about 1846 Kbps, 192 kHz, 16-bit files.

Whenever I have listen subsampled audio files I've been around, I never noticed an addition of background noise, nor any difference at all, a fortiori all I didn't like.

Should I add dither to my WAV files before exporting their?

Apple iTunes automatically adds the dithering when converting to the ALAC, m4a? If this isn't the case, does?

And if I were to export WAV files as files of low-bit of hearing CS6, I should add dither?

I tend to music remaster to eliminate useless noise which has no acoustic effect. I'd be unsatisified if I added the dithering?

Are there specifications of dithering I can add which is not audible, but serve an important purpose?

Any thoughts are welcome! Thank you!

This isn't quite like that. It is all based on statistics, and to do with what happens when you hit the lower part of the dynamic range of a file. This only ever happen with the 16-bit files or less, because they are the ones when it could potentially occur within the range of human hearing. That dither is to obscure the point at which a signal goes from a determined point (about - 96dB) to the digital 'silence' at least the infinite dB. This, in terms of 16-bit is the next step down, and it is quite a leap. By dithering the signal (basically adding noise to it in a very controlled manner) you can not only hide it, but to increase the bit depth apparent through the noise. The full explanation for this is quite complex, and you can do all kinds of things with it - mainly involving the formatting of the noise profile.

This makes a difference? Mainly of reverb tails, it must be said. Do you need it for a 24 - bit signal? No you haven't - it can solve up to lower way to the human ear can. Do you need it when you compress files using an encoder? You should not - the encoder will take care of it, and if it isn't, you probably shouldn't use it!

  • Can anything convert ALAC 24-bit or higher?

Personally, I would like to convert it to a minimum of 32-bit floating-point ALAC, but I'd settle for 24-bit integer. 16-bit is too. I heard that the ALAC has the ability to support 384 kHz, 32-bit floating point, maybe even 64-bit Floating Point (IEEE) the way WAV files can.

Can not export or convert to 32-bit ALAC with a minimum of 44.1 kHz and 256 Kbps?

SteveG (AudioMasters) thanks for the recommendation of Foobar2000, but it seems sketchy. Whatever it is, I did a short study in order to determine which program should provide the best quality of conversion ALAC as well as inadvertently determine best quality (in my opinion) output formats:

Surprisingly (not really), iTunes is the best converter ALAC (free), may be replaced by Logic Pro X, nothing else. It is possible to convert to 32-bit Float ALAC, 192 kHz and maybe even of 384 kHz, but not unless the source file is already 384 kHz. For 32-bit conversion, the source must be exported from Adobe Audition (CS6 or above I think) as 32-bit integer. In iTunes, it converts the floating-point format. 44.1 kHz being more than substantial, a float of 32 bit 44.1 kHz ALAC equals perfect compressed lossless Apple available.

Furthermore, I have determined that supplied iTunes perfect conversion of any waveform is registration, although ALAC iTunes conversions, as well as others, perhaps, reduce the peaks that exceed the threshold, but convert otherwise perfectly. without zooming on the threshold, you would never know there was a difference. This is recommended only with files that have reduced overall gain or who have already had dynamic range compression or fixed limitation.

Better yet, Adobe Audition can export files of Point floating (IEEE) FLAC 32 bits with original sampling frequencies (so you can resume 44.1 kHz) for perfect conversion, and I mean perfect. I checked the sections that were exact matches as far down as 1 hudred-millionieme of a second.

Perfect lossless Compression: Minimum 44.1 kHz, 32-bit floating point (IEEE), FLAC

I edit in WAV format, export WAV to Apple to convert to the ALAC, FLAC WAV export and destroy all WAV, FLAC become my source. The routine is perfect for me.

I can share my pages of notes of my studies over the past two weeks to determine all the data and the conclusions that I have collected with anyone.

  • transfer library problems FLAC in iTunes

I just got a new MacBook Pro and I am trying to transfer my music to use with iTunes library. I used files FLAC with Foobar2000 in Windows. Now I use the 12.4.2.4 iTunes version.

So I put on the conversion of part of my music to Apple Lossless as a test. I searched the web for instructions. Almost all of the first results in Google are at least three years, then maybe I'm not aware of more recent problems. I ended up doing this with Foobar2000, by using the encoder of the ALAC. This has produced m4a files.

But iTunes does not recognize these files. I tried two ways.

    (1) import the existing folder to the root of my library of music together. It is always full of many files FLAC, but I was hoping that iTunes would recognize other (mp3 and m4a) files that are there now. Instead, appeared as mp3 files in my library.

    (2) change my iTunes media to be the folder file root of my existing music library (which is located on an external drive). Again, this has only recognized the mp3 files.

I wonder if there is an error in the converted m4a files that prevents to recognize their iTunes? How can I debug my work?

    Mike,

If the files are valid Apple Lossless files, iTunes will be able to import them.  I suspect that something is wrong with the release of Foobar2000.  You can try another converter, like Max.
