XP computers cannot locate Vista printer on LAN

I'm trying to set up a home network.  I have 2 older computers running SP3 of XP and a Vista Premium 32.  The Vista computer will not locate the other 2, and other computers will locate the Vista computer, but cannot access the printer on it.  I have files and printers, sharing the value on all computers.  I also downloaded the printer drivers directly on XP computers, but that no longer works.  I've also updated the driver for this printer (HP Officejet 5610).  I also applied hotfix from article 922120.  I tried to disable the firewall and security and which was no help either.

Hey jesseandchris,

Are you able to print from the Windows Vista-based computer?

Try and ping the printer with its IP address and check if you have connectivity.

Method 1:

Run the printer Troubleshooter:

First of all, make sure that your printer is turned on and connected to your Windows computer according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Then, try the printer troubleshooter, which will attempt to diagnose and solve your problem automatically.

Access the link below and try them the Fix tool provided to automatically perform the process:

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/troubleshoot-printer-problems

Method 2.

Cross check the settings in the article below and check:

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/troubleshoot-problems-finding-computers-on-a-home-network

Method 3:

It is recommended to download the drivers from the manufacturer's website.

http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?LC=en&DLC=en&cc=us&product=441125&lang=en

For more information, refer to the following article:

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isn ' t-work correctly

Method 4:

Configure the driver to correct the printer port.

On the tab "Ports" of the "Printer properties" window, select the port for the printer driver.

1. from the Windows desktop, open the printer properties window.

2. click on the Ports tab.

3. under the section "Printing on the following ports", select the port to which your printer is connected.

Example: In this example, the printer is connected to the "USB001 virtual printer Port.

4. click on 'Apply' to validate the changes.

5 click ' general tab and then click on 'Print Page of Test' to confirm that the changes fixed the problem.

Cross check all the parameters mentioned in the article below:

Cannot install network printer on Windows 7.  Detects the printer then it says cannot locate the driver.  All my vista and XP machines have no problem finding drivers. It is a 32-bit 64-bit vs questions?  How can I fix it?
Windows Server 2008 network.  Printers have ip addresses. Install the drivers from the Print Manager.  /Terminal Server Workgroup installation.

It's the same situation with XP.  The print driver names must match.  If you notice the name of the printer driver that uses XP is a name different from the one that is installed when you plug in the device on the Windows 7 computer.  This is just my assumption, please correct me if this isn't the case.

The real solution is to install a 32-bit driver on the XP machine that uses the same name that the 64-bit driver and share a printer using this driver or find a 64-bit driver that uses the same name as the 32-bit driver installed on XP and install the driver on XP.

  • Satellite A300 - cannot locate any wireless network

    Hi all

I just bougth today a Satellite A300, everything works fine except the wireless access. Ethernet access works very well, and the problem is not with my wireless device since it works with my old laptop.

It cannot locate any wireless network. It does not appear to be activated WLAN and I don't know how to enable it in the BIOS.

The swicht wireles on the front of the laptop is turned ON, but not the function Fn + F8 appearing at all.

    Can anyone help please?

What you mean with this WLAN is in the BIOS not enabled? Normally, you can change all BIOS options then try to activate it.
Also make sure that the WLAN switch is on and active with FN + F8.
