XP cound not restart from a disk backup (clone)

Hello

I downloaded a freeware Macrium Reflect of CNET to http://download.cnet.com/Macrium-Reflect-Free/3001-2242_4-10845728.html?idl=n&spi=102af850c7006a903f8e2b0d8ffa8f43backup system.

I havve managed to create a Clone of my C drive in and Drive external Western Digital passport.

However, when I try to test this external hard drive, the BACK keep on say restarting try F1 or F2 to go to the configuration Menu.

Is there any solution for this?

Thank you

Low

Clones are better made on IDENTICAL hard drives, not external USB, such as the WD Passport hard drives. You would need to PHYSICALLY exchange the hard drives and all should be well.

Therefore, as long as you continue to use the Passport, your best bet is to the IMAGE of your hard drive (not clone). Archive image can reside on the Passport. So if disaster strikes, you can boot from the CD-ROM of emergency and restore the image of the file from archive to disk target hard.

    Hello!

If you enter the product recovery disc, Windows will be relocated and will be erasing all data on the HARD drive.

I think that your HARD drive is damaged. You can check this with the Drive Fitness Test. Here you can download:
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT
Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. Then you can test the HARD drive.
On the same site is a user's guide if you want to know more.

By the way: you can save the data on the HARD drive, when you put it in a box external HARD disk. Then you can save the data on another PC, if the HARD drive is ok and have no errors.

    Hello

This question is not for the laptop manufacturer but for software producer.

If you have two partitions copy this image to the second partition (D) and check if it is not visible. I do the same with the Norton Ghost image creator.

"reboot and select proper boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected boot device and press a key."

I changed the boot disk priority, but it is still this bug.

What model of laptop do you have exactly?

Have you changed anything in the BIOS?

The error message mentioned (reboot and select proper boot device) appear if the laptop can not find a boot device.
Go into the BIOS and check if the HARD drive is set as first boot device.

In addition, you should check if the HARD drive appears on the first page of the BIOS with all the details of the unit (size of the HARD drive, name).
I guess this question could appear due to a malfunction of the HARD drive.

  • Find files on the data store that have been removed from inventory, but not deleted from the disk

I have ESXi 4.1 and with vSphere Client to manage virtual machines.

Some of my users continue to use the 'remove from inventory"rather than the option" remove disc "in vSphere when they want to delete the virtual machine.

This leaves the computer virtual on the data store but not used. I have since removed this privilege among the offending users but I need to do a bit of cleaning.

I have a lot of files on the data store where users have done this in recent years. Probably about 150 records but only 80 VM listed in the inventory.

Is there a way I can output, a report showing the data of each machine store directory in inventory so that I can remove anything not on this list? ID rather not to manually check the parameters of all 80 VM in the inventory.

Out ideal would be something like:

    MyVmNameHere 1, \MyVmDirectoryHere1\ [DataStore1]

    MyVmNameHere2, \MyVmDirectoryHere2\ [DataStore1]

  • Windows XP does not start. Can I boot Windows from a disk so that I can recover the data?

Windows XP does not start. Can I boot Windows from a disk so that I can recover the data? This should be a CD because it doesn't have a floppy disk on my laptop drive. It is maybe that my hard drive has begun to fail and therefore cannot locate XP startup files. I can not start using one of the other methods of starting for example. Safe mode. If I can recover the data, I can then reload Windows and check the surface of the disc etc etc. Thank you all for your comments. Steve

Lately, I'm leaning toward the Hiren's BootCD you can download here:

    http://www.hirensbootcd.NET/

On the left, click on download, scroll down, choose the most recent version

The download link is a little hard to see.  It is at the bottom of the page, above the drop for older versions and looks like this (click this component to download the ZIP file):

Direct HTTP mirror + Torrent, Torrent Magnet

Click the "Live HTTP Mirror" link to start the download and save the ZIP file on your desktop of somewhere that you can remember.

The ZIP file is large, so the download will take probably some time to complete.  Then unzip the download to extract theHirens.BootCD.ISO file that will be used to create your new bootable CD.

Create a bootable CD. ISO file is not the same as simply copying the. File ISO onto a blank CD.  You must use software that includes how to burn a. ISO to a CD to create a bootable CD.

File ZIP the Hiren is the file BurnToCD.cmd that you can double-click to launch it.  The BurnToCD.cmd will use the file BurnCDCC.exe to burn the. ISO file onto a blank CD using your existing CD burner.  You can also use your own burning software as long as your software is able to create a bootable CD. ISO file.  More modern burning programs can create a bootable CD. ISO image.  Create a CD from an ISO image bootable is not the same as just the file on a CD burning.

If you need a simple and CD burning, this is a free software popular software:

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your new bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.
These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When starting on the Hiren's CD, you will see a menu of options.  Choose Mini XP.

It will appear while Windows is loading and you will be presented with a desktop computer that has the look and feel of the interface of Windows Explorer, you are already accustomed to using.  You will feel at home.

Using the Mini XP, you can access the Internet, maneuver around your system, copy files, replace the files, run the scans for malware, etc.  There are dozens of free and useful tools included in the CD that can be used to repair your system, or copy files to another device such as a USB device or an external drive if drop in trying to repair your system.

If you want to see if you can fix your system, describe what is happening when you try to start and to answer these questions:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, MSE, Comodo, etc..

You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

    Help, please...

    Hi dynamitenews

    1. are you able to boot to the desktop?
    2. what happens when you try to start the computer?

You must have the DVD drive to start the computer using the disk, you cannot use the external hard drive to do the same thing.

Also I suggest you to make sure you have defined the start as CD/DVD-Rom as the first choice option in the BIOS. See below the help link-
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/BIOS-frequently-asked-questions

If nothing is done, then you can contact the manufacturer support for assistance on setting up the correct boot sequence and check.

  • How can I move copies of data from an incremental backup, not the original file?

As part of an incremental backup I get copies of the storage spaces. These default are stored in the disk location of backup diskgroup. Is it possible to move those copies to different diskgroup/location while always save to the default disk backup location diskgroup. I know how to do it with the main data files, but not with copies.
    for example
    Current situation:
The DATA of the original data files in +.
    Backups in + FRA
Copies of Datafile recovered in + FRA

    New configuration to be:
The DATA of the original data files in +.
    Backups in + FRA
Copies recovered in Datafile + BACKUP

    Thank you

    Yes it is possible.

Move the backup, and then set the new location of the backup on the controlfile:

    1 put the backup.

2 RMAN delete old reference backup in the control file:

     crosscheck backup device type disk;

     delete noprompt expired backup device type disk;

3 RMAN includes the new location of the backup:

     catalog start with '/path/to/your/backup/'

    And you're done :)

  • HA does not restart the computer from the virtual machine

    Hello

I have two ESX in a cluster.  ESX 1 have an XP machine. When I stop esx 1, the machine automatically goes to ESX 2 and has not restarted?

I though that the machine needs to be restarted, but it does not restart. Is it supposed to the case that it does not restart?

    TKS

    Hello

The virtual machine power on or off the power on esx2?

What will HA is to turn off the XP on ESX1 when it is isolated from the network (which means unable to ping the default gateway) then ESX 2 will import and turn it on. Therefore, this

will require a reboot. You must set the response of isolation to "turn off" so that it works. The easist HA of test is to unplug the network cable from the service console. This

    will trigger the isolation.
