I recently acquired a XP Pro SP2 upgrade CD.  When I load in my computer and try to level (computer is currently using XP Home SP3) I get a message informing me that I can't upgrade 'of' a newer version of Windows.

  • Error: The installer cannot set Windows XP required configuration information during the upgrade to Windows XP Home SP3 of Windows XP Pro.

Original title: OEM Windows XP Home SP3 update XP Pro

Here is a compilation of the messages from another forum regarding
    My problem:
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

I'm trying to upgrade a Windows XP Home Sp3 OEM system to
Windows XP Pro. (There are a few Pro features
that are not available in the House I now need: (1) the files offline and
    (2) an add-on available for free to Onenote 2007, Top2onenote, requires a Pro).
I don't want a clean install, but an upgrade. I bought a Windows XP Pro
Upgrade CD on Ebay that was Windows XP Pro
Gold (v2002). I'm sure that's true for the following reasons:

It has been listed as an upgrade, but the CD is not labeled "Upgrade".
It seems very authentic with all Microsoft holography.
He came in the standard package of Windows XP (without box),
    and it was sealed.
The name of volume for the CD is WXPFPP_EN. The Internet,.
It is the retail of Windows XP Pro RTM (gold)!

Here are things I tried initially.

    (1) I tried to upgrade to Pro from the purchased CD. It is immediately
has refused to upgrade indicating the upgrade OS (Pro) is older than the
    installed OS (home)...

    (2) I read about "slipstreaming". "Slipstreaming" allows to integrate
a service pack with an earlier version of the operating system. I created a
upgrade XP Pro SP3 with Nlite slipstreamed CD image (and
Autostreamer later, but it made no difference) from the purchased CD
    and a file containing SP3.

After you burn the CD and start the upgrade
    (Windows installation), the upgrade process
    product through "information collection."
"Dynamic update" and "Preparation of Installation" with
no problems. My computer restarted and returned to
"Installation preparation". A progress bar called 'Progress '.
quickly filled to about 90% and the hanging system
at that time there for about 15 minutes.
Then, I got the following error message:

Setup cannot set the required Windows XP configuration
information. This indicates an internal Setup error.

This is where I am stuck. I had to leave the installation at this point.
My drive is starts raining and I had to restore a backup.

    (3) just for the heck of it, I formatted my hard drive and
reinstalled my original OEM XP Home SP3 OS (no clean up, no user file).
I immediately used my XP CD slipstreamed Pro to try one
upgrade to XP Pro and IT WORKED! I need to find out why the
properly clean XP Home OS upgraded to XP Pro but my pre-existing
(with the files users, drivers, etc..) XP Home OS does not level
    successfully to XP Pro.
    -------------------------------------------------------------

    Another post:

Yet once, today, I installed a new copy of OEM Windows XP Home Sp3.
I continue with installation of all the essential and the add-on
pilots (essentially all my original version). Then, I
set up a network connection and firewall. With this configuration,.
I ran the Pro XP slipstreamed SP3 CD. The upgrade to XP Pro
success (even if the upgrade not configured my graphics
card properly). I guess my current problem is either the registry,
the WINDOWS, some user file or parameter file.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

    Another post:

I made a file and the backup of the folder C:\Windows folder
on my system that is pre-existing (OEM XP Home Sp3). I also did a
separate the backup the State of the 'system' on my pre-existing system.
These are added my full image backup of her pre-existing
    system a month ago.

I did a backup image of my system (minimum fees OEM XP Home
SP3 with all the original installed drivers over a network configured
connection and a firewall configured). This system will upgrade
XP Pro with XP Pro SP3 slipstreamed CD successfully.

    Experiment 1:

I've restored my minimum system. I then restored the C:/Windows folder
and the State of the pre-existing system backup system. A startup
has managed (with a minor irritant). I had to activate Windows.
Then, I tried upgrading the slipstreamed XP Pro processor. He stopped
at the same place during the upgrade and gave the same error as before:

Setup cannot set the required configuration information Windows XP.
This indicates an internal Setup error.

    Experiment 2:

I've restored my minimum system. I then restored the system state only
the backup of the pre-existing system. After startup I was asked to
activate Windows, but answer Yes to the question would be to disconnect me
the system. I couldn't get connected to try the XP Pro upgrade.

    Experience 3:

I've restored my minimum system. I then restored only the C:/Windows
the backup of the pre-existing system folder. Once again, as in experiment 1,
the upgrade failed at the same place with the same error message.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

Before the experiment 3, I hoped that 3 experience would succeed so I
could conclude that I had a registry problem. I'm not sure now.
I don't know what to try next. Take the minimum system and reinstalling
my files of the user is not an option that my hard drive has over 200 GB of
programs! If I restore all files and folders of my pre-existing
I would still have backup to restore a system state the reliable (read the registry).
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry for the length! If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate your responses.

    Thank you

  • Computer has become slow to XP Home SP3 in February 2012, Please HELP

    Mr President.

I noticed that my computer slowed considerably since Feb 2012 programs / answer games too long / often do not respond.

I use Win XP Home SP3, has 512 MB of RAM, shows the downloaded programs ran normally, again, earlier today tried a very small game with no 3D, he answered / ran 10 times slower than that previously, I do not use 3D.

Windows and MSE is updated every third and fourth day (even if it has auto), can't say what update made it slow. Computer starts and stops normally. IE8 is never in good time, even tried Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, not better, all 5-10 minutes have clear cache and temp internet files. If they are not cleared, download never happens.

Don't know what to do, PLEASE HELP.

    2. What happens when you try to start in normal mode?

Check if the below mentioned settings are correct on the computer in safe mode.

    (a) click on the start menu, click Run.

  • Get advice on connections wireless for PC under XP Home SP3

I have an old PC of GP7-700 of Gateway with Pentium III running at 733 Mhz and 512 MB of RAM under XP Home SP3, and I want to explore the possibility of this wireless (such a Word?) to my BT Home Hub broadband connection.  My question is this. What should I do in terms of additional material to appeal to my broadband on this PC? (I currently have a laptop with a wireless connection which works fine).  I think I might buy a PCI fast Ethernet for my PC and connect it via a direct cable from PC to my BT Home Hub, but it would be more enjoyable or easier if I could do this wireless connection. It's just that I don't know if I need any hardware other than a USB wireless adapter, so I would be grateful for any comments from the hardware of the guru there. My PC does not have a NETWORK adapter installed and the USB ports I have are all USB 1.0 ports.

You can use a wireless USB adapter, but personally I prefer to keep my network on the USB hub (especially if it's only a USB 1.x hub).  My first choice would be to buy a wireless PCI card.  Just Google "Card PCI Wireless" and you will be presented with many choices in the range $20 - $30.  Just as taste wireless make sure (B, G, N, etc.) is compatible with your wireless router.

  • sometimes (iexplorer or firefox mozilla) wireless connection problem question time on XP Home sp3

I do not have the AOL e-mail account now, I need to change my email address to the account.  It is a question rather long. 1 tech computer. E Machine W3107 desktop PC. AMD Sempron. Processor 3100 + 1.80 GHz, 1600 MHz FSB, 256 KB L2 Cache, 100 GB ATA hard drive, 1.87 GB of memory; (I upgraded the memory to 512 MB DDR SDRAM) 8 in 1 digital memory card reader, 5 USB Ports, nVIDIA GeForce 6100 PCI-Express Slot available, network 10/100 Mbps Ethernet LAN, Windows XP Home sp3 system, I connect to the internet with 6-AX88772 USB2.0 to Fast Ethernet network adapter. Reason do not use Ethernet adapter was because in the taskbar bar, there was a "Network cable unplugged" warning (internet technician did not want or did not know how) to solve the problem. It's easier and faster just to put the adapter ASIX.    My problem is after about 20 minutes. my connection speed is slower than the previous 56K modem. I have to constantly repair the IP address just to stay online when the settings are set to AUTO FIND the IP address, gateway server and DNS servers. If I set these manuely I am always constantly disconnected and it is a repair click without end for the IP address. I can't play POKER in Facebook or Ant other multiplayer game due to the fact that you can't return to your table in FACEBOOK before you are ejected to the lobby, because you've lost the Internet connection. I get disconnected every 2-3 minutes. It's on a regular basis. So sometimes (not often) I stay connected and stay in touch with extremely quick responses. I ran anti-virus, Malware, Spyware scans (no) (clean). I ran Windows tool of connectivity with different results. When Internet Explorer announces that "cannot display this web site" I run the connectivity program and to halfway through the IE analysis opens the web site. ". The newspaper said "it is Impossible to find something wrong with your connection; The icon in the taskbar says I'm connected. Which is not true because sometimes if I download a fike transfer rate will be reduced to "0" (ZERO) at least a minite before he picks up back at a blinding speed of 3-7 Kbps. I started to hate this wireless connection and have seriously thought about back to Dial-up. At least, it was a constant SLOW. and meadows maddness worse. Both browsers then expire too but Mozilla seems to be a browser faster than IE. This happens at the influx of cutting-edge and 03:00 when internet traffic is very light... Little difference, if any. My Email address has changed from AOL. I don't have access to this account anynore. My current address is * address email is removed from the privacy *.

    Hello

    1. don't you make changes to your machine before the problem?
    2. you have any device near your router that may be in conflict with the signal?

If so, make sure that devices such as radio, microwaves, mobile phones are kept at Bay.

In the meantime, I wish that you follow the steps mentioned below.

    Method 1:

Update your AX88772 6 USB2.0 to Fast Ethernet network card of manufacturer's site and see if it helps.

    Method 2:

You can also test the problem in safe mode with network.

If the methods above are little help, you may need to contact your Internet Service Provider for the best help that can be also with slow Internet or abandon the connection.

Let us know the status of the issue.

I just reinstalled Windows XP home sp3, and I forgot the product key. Where can I find it? I have 30 days to activate it.

    Too late.

The product key is on the packaging (box or envelope) that contains your Windows XP Home CD.

If you have lost the package, then before you reinstalled you might have found the key to the registry using one of the available tools (e.g., http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/).  Now that you have reinstalled, however, that the key is missing.

  • Cannot be opened in the control panel internet options. XP home sp3 ie8

I've used several malicious programs (housecall, MS Security Essentials, Malwarebytes) so my computer has to cringe.

I also tried several programs Hot Fix to read other questions here. Nothing seems to work, so far.

I can't remove sp3 or ie8 in Add/remove menu. The option 'remove' for these aren't there.

I can access the net, but impossible to download anything. My toolbar is missing and I don't have a tools option. HOWEVER, when I use FIREFOX, all downloads are working well and the toolbars are present.

So. Is the problem with XP? SP3? or ie8?

Would appreciate any help. BTW. I use "Disk Cleanup" to delete temp files more net and such. I also use disk defrag very often.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jim

Guess I'll answer my own question.

The problem is the installation of ie8 BEFORE sp3! The solution is to remove sp3 FIRST, then remove ie8. None of them are simple. Especially when there is NO delete option in the menu Setup/add/remove Control Panel! SP3 (service pack 3) is written so that when it is installed, it cannot be deleted. Not completely true (TG). See below.

Before you start, I used the following: use 'disk cleanup' several times. It will remove the "accumulation" temp Internet files and much more. Do a search for "Housecall" by Trend Micro and run their program of malware. Also run the program "Microsoft Security Essentials". Also run program "Malwarebytes". I felt 'safe', after completing these 3 programs, my computer has been completely 'clean' Malware!

After removing sp3 & ie8 the computer comes back to ie7 sp2. NOW you can install sp3 FIRST then install ie8. All the functions have been restored. Tip. After installing ie8 set all THE security level for "default". Change levels if necessary.

It CAN be done, because I did it myself clean my computer with XP 32 bit. There's hours and hours of research and a LOT of patience! Follow the links for XP Misrosoft get information HOW to enter the mode of elimination of sp3. Tip. When finally he did think your home 'free. ' You are not. The program will tell you that MANY other programs will be deleted also. This isn't the problem. They'll come back later when sp3 & ie8 are reattached. The program will automatically 'delete'... up to a point. And then stop. It will then say something like; cannot find the file (the file is). The program to keep it open. If you quit the program, you will have to start all over again! Click Start, search, and enter the name of the file, the program is looking for. Once you've found where is found the file, enter the program. The program will accept the news and then go to the next "file not found". Do the thing to search again... There are MANY of them. It's a good idea to write this file the program to research and write down where the file is located. SP3 was finally 'removed '.

Tip. I had to look for "hidden files" to find some of the files.

Removal of ie8. I ran into the same problems as above and more. More files to search for. The last part was the most difficult. The program wanted "ieencode.dll.000 (it is zero, zero, zero).» There is NOT a file in the computer by that name! I had to go in ie8 in my "program files" to find 'ieencode.dll' and 'Rename' to 'ieencode.dll.000 '. IE8 has finally been removed!

I went to Microsoft.com, and then under 'downloads' or 'support' found 'service pack' info and installed sp3. Once sp3 has been installed FIRST (!) I installed ie8.

I started to have the "automatic updates" after that. 75 I think. I have just "installed custom" them. 1 single update was not installed. Something KB. The reason why it has not installed is because he was already in another place called "power shell. You can only (the thing kb) find in Add/Remove programs. It doesn't have an option 'Remove', but once I saw it was in another program (and a LOT more files would disappear) I decided to NOT go down that road... again.

My computer is in PLACE and works better than ever.

    Good luck!

Reason: The road to the 'dying' is fairly recent, faster and has more capacity. It also has a lot of programs that will require hours of resettlement.

QUESTION: Can I take the dying drive from that and put it in the 'good' and call Microsoft to reactivate?

Two 8510GZ machines came with XP Home OEM operating system (updated subsequently with SP3). They were 100% identical at the time of purchase (only of the different serial numbers - of course). I only have the recovery disc OEM for these machines. I have a family version of XP Pro with an unused license left, but was not enough to mess with a clean install and find all of the drivers concerned.

If the material is ABSOLUTELY identical in every respect then you may find that you don't need to reactivate... If you find my answer helpful, please click the button "Vote as helpful"! Thank you!
