XPS 8900, Power Surge?

Dell told me to refer a new computer, because it turned itself for 2-3 seconds the moment that you plugged into a socket or power surge.  It would then be immediately extinguished itself... with me, never touch the power button.  I switched the computer for an another XPS 8900.  The second computer did the same thing.  I checked the wiring in my house with an electric tester.   Other computers on the same sockets do not do this.  Someone had this problem?  I have not yet activated on the latest to implement computer, because it will supply any outlet that I use in my house for 2-3 seconds.  This cannot be normal.  A that someone already had this problem?

I think it's normal. My 8900 XPS shows light up on the power switch as soon as I plug the power, then the light goes off. The computer shows no sign of start-up, however; the only indication is the power light, and he died almost immediately.

After that, I see nothing unusual. Only occurs when first plug the power to the machine.

I've not seen a chart explaining flashing power on the 8900 XPS button codes. And there is nothing in the Manual.

You need to contact Dell tech support immediately. You have 21 days from the date of billing (no delivery date) to pick them up. And then you can order another.

Otherwise, technical support should work with you to solve the problem under warranty on this system.

If you are comfortable working inside the case, it is possible that something got its place potted during shipping. Then you can try reseating the RAM and PCI-e cards modules and cables between motherboard and drives and connection etc. Don't forget to read the instructions on the inside of your PC use in the manual before opening the case.

  • XPS vs XPS 8900 8910

I'm considering buying a 8910 XPS but I have concerns about the problems of heat and noise with the new case design based on messages in this forum. I see that Best Buy is still selling the old XPS 8900 with the oldest case. If I go with the 8910 XPS, I'd probably use the NVIDIA GTX 745Ti stock or 960 video. I would add a 512G SSD for my main hard drive.

Someone at - it recommendations on the XPS vs 8900 8910?

You might also consider an inexpensive slot fan who gets the power directly from the PSU. Hot air is vented to the rear of the case.

This is just one example. There are many different brands and versions to choose so going around.  No idea how efficient they are or how much extra the noise they could add: I don't recommend - or not - recommend this particular fan or provider...

EDIT: Many / most of these fans of housing have a power connector Molex 4 pin, if you'd also need an inexpensive SATA > power Molex adapter you can connect the Molex fan to one of spare SATA power on the power supply connectors.

From October 2016, Costco sells a XPS 8900, i7, 16 GB, GeForce GTX745 PC.  Is the motherboard in this PC has a connector SATA 3 that I can use for one SSD SATA I already have?

Yes.The 8900 has five SATA ports on the motherboard and the power cables in support of three hard drives and two optical drives.

  • XPS 8900 / 6th Gen Intel Skylake freezing (updated WITH a RESOLUTION... EVERYTHING IN THE BIOS)

    * RESOLUTION *.

-Go into your BIOS (after restart or turn on/off computer keep tapping F2 when Dell logo is present)

    -Scroll to the Performance

    -DISABLE State of C

    -Apply, save, exit

-Disable sleep in your control panel power options

Enjoy your 8900 now functional XPS to freeze several times a day.

    ------------------------------------------------

Here's what it was originally until I find a solution

So I recently got xps 8900, immediately to install an SSD and upgraded the ram to 8 GB to 16 GB.

I also used the old keyboard solar logitech and the old computer logitech wireless mouse (they use a usb receiver bit) and was only using these devices of today and it's frozen twice. Could not connect a usb mouse or keyboard and the computer is responding.

For the first two days while doing the first ssd install and windows 10 updates this computer remained on two consecutive days, using the included wired keyboard/mouse. No problems with the computer freezing or boot the system.

But when I gave this computer as a Christmas gift and then installed the old logitech wireless keyboard and mouse from the computer froze twice within 8 hours.

So I don't know if it's a problem of USB or the wifi card is at the origin of the problems because I've seen a few threads mention to remove this card or disable a driver wifi like they got BSOD or other problems.

Computer looks great and seems to work perfectly, until these last two issues freezing. I intend to buy a new mouse logitech, but that worked perfectly for 6 years on an old XPS computer so I know who did not break at all.

    Update:

I just wanted to add that I checked a few minutes ago and it was frozen again. No control of the mouse or usb keyboard. I tried Windows key and numlock, capslock, no light on those.

I have "sleep mode" disabled, while the monitor is disable. After this 3rd time freezing I advanced and disabled the driver wifi and am now under ethernet. At the rate it's freezing, it must be frozen again in the morning. Have a problem with that at all for two consecutive days...

    Update 2:

-Ran Diagnostic Dell, checked everything well

-Disabled some settings on the sleep under power options advanced settings

  • XPS 8900 - bi - GPU - is it possible?

I noticed that there are 2 PCIE slots on the XPS 8900 motherboard. Would it not possible to run 2 GPU by putting a second GPU in the slot? I know AMD Bridgeless Crossfire but would this work? I was discussing getting 370 R9 and then just adding an another R9 370 on the road...

Regarding the power, I was going to upgrade to a power supply 750w so when I added the second GPU.

    Corrosive
Would it not possible to run 2 GPU by putting a second GPU in the slot?

    Short answer: no

The second location of PCIe x 16 is only wired as x 4. So a x 16 card to enter this niche, but he will not get enough tracks for video, even assuming that BIOS might recognize 2 video cards...

  • Dell XPS-8900 does not start

Worked well to date, 01/01/2016 - Happy New Year, NO!

Change power cable, use a different outlet (other items such as router and network printer can very well). Computer still does not start.

When I plug it in the computer power light turns on light and then turns off (this seemed normal before). So if I push the power button computer does not start.

I don't seem to get an orange light sequence of 2-1 after trying to turn it on - and continues. Maybe some sort of signal POST?

I can turn the computer (not my first choice) after our journey ahead. But I'd rather get it upward and now running. Have work to do.

    Phil

More information. I had four USB3 external drives attached, whose two propulsion and two disks Seagate Wireless - which is recharged through its USB port.

Removing only the second Seagate drive allows the machine starts. So the question can be too much of a drain on the USB card current.

Once started, the system seems to work very well with that wireless Seagate drive attached, and it restarts with it attached - just not boot from a condition of Shut Down.

Not sure really, I understand that, but I can live with that.

If someone seems something more insidious in this behavior, please notify; bought the XPS-8900 at COSTCO and still about 55 days return if it is defective!

  • XPS 8900 - number of hard drives

The specs say that it may have 3 internal 3.5 "hard drives.  I was wondering if there is place to put a 4th? (Power, Sata, space, goes up).

    Thank you

As you have noticed, Dell provides no information about the color of connectors in the maintenance manual.

Assuming that the repair is correct, all of the SATA connectors on the motherboard XPS 8900 conducted at the same speed (6 Gb/s), so, theoretically, you can plug disks into one of the ports. However, historically, the watched Dell BIOS code on the hard disk connected to the blue SATA port 0. If you have moved to a SATA port that is numbered differently startup disk, the computer may not start. I don't know if this is still true for the 8900 XPS. On my XPS 8500, the boot drive has been connected to the blue SATA 0 port when Dell shipped it.

Why do I say 'assuming that the repair is correct? Because the owner for 8500 XPS and XPS 8700 manual contained errors about the speed of the SATA ports. The gap you found in the maintenance manual and specification Guide is another example of skills poor documentation of Dell.

In all cases, more mechanical hard drives may not even saturate a SATA II, but only a SATA III one channel. Optical drives are generally slower, but you can always plug into a SATA III connector.

  • Satellite P775-program of power surge on USB error message

My P775 program is a month old.
In the last two days, randomly when I plug in my iPhone I get the message "Power Surge on USB... ».
If plugged into USB 3.0 Port, iTunes does not load, nothing happens.

If plugged into the other Ports USB 2.0 on the right side, same as above, PLUS, my wireless mouse that is connected to another USB 2.0 Port on the same side has been rendered as well. Until the reboot.

There seems to be no logic, that sometimes I have no problem, but rarely.
Does anyone have a solution for this?

I tried to uninstall all the USB USB and re start (so re - install), but I do not uninstall the software via the checkbox.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Try to remove and reinstall all USB controllers

To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:
    Go to the Device Manager
    Expand Bus USB controllers.
Right-click every device under the Bus USB controllers node and then click on uninstall to remove them one at a time.
Restart the computer and reinstall the USB controllers.

  • Satellite A30-414: power surge on hub port error

    Hi all

I have a Satellite A30-414 under XP Pro SP2. I had 2 USB ports: I plugged a siemens santis ADSL modem one and a sitecom USB hub 4 in the other. For months things have worked very well, but in the last few weeks I've been more frequently make this mistake of "power surge on hub port", which sometimes turns into a "a bad usb device worked" or "unknown usb device"...

At first, I thought it was the modem. Then I thought it was the hub. Then I saw that I was getting the same error when everything I had plugged in was this basic usb mouse. At that time I KNEW: this is yet another annoying bugs kindly provided by XP SP2.

All microsoft support had to suggest is to "use an AC adapter to power the USB device"... (Gee, why didn't think of this?) Too bad that my sitecom hub is designed to draw power from the USB port only).

Of course, one will mark the task bar so that the error is always hidden, but that does not eliminate the problem itself now, it?

Bottom line is... I'm tired of plugging and unplugging USB devices over and over again trying to make them work. Can someone pls drop some wisdom? I heard that people from the other producer for laptop has had a patch for this error...

    Thanks in advance!

    [Edited by: admin December 15 05 21:01]

    Hello

If you want to avoid this error message you can do on this way:

    -Click START
    -Click on control PANEL
    -Double-click on the SYSTEM icon
    -Click on the HARDWARE tab
-Click the button MANAGER of DEVICES
-Click on the + sign next to USB Bus controllers to expand the selection.
-Right click and select PROPERTIES on the Intel® USB UNIVERSAL HOST CONTROLLER (not the USB root hub)
    -Click on the ADVANCED tab
-Check the box that says: don't tell me about USB errors

Of course, the USB device has exceeded the limits of its hub port power. USB devices may draw a maximum of 500 milliamps (mA) per connection. With the release of SP2, if a device tries to use more than that, a USB port balloon message appears to indicate this on the current condition. During the docking of the Tablet, a very brief on the current condition is sometimes detected by the operating system, and the warning message is displayed. As much as I know this message has no effect on the functionality of the USB port.

    Good bye

  • Satellite A100-998: continue Error Message «Power surge on USB hub»

    Hello world.

I am the new owner of a Satellite A100 laptop that has a little problem.

When the laptop goes into mode and the monitor shutsdown, energy saving when I turn on the computer again, I always get an error message will appear in the system tray. The message says: peripheral USB A "Power surge on Hub Port" exceeded the limits of its hub port power. To solve the problem, click this message.

First of all, I have 4 USB ports, but NONE of them are used. There's nothing attached to the laptop at all.
Secondly, when I click on the box, I get 5 unknown USB devices shown with the yellow question mark next to them in the list and 3 unused ports, which seem to be ok, with no yellow question mark.

Why is happening, with no device attached, or even installed on the laptop.

Your help to solve this problem will be more appreciated.

To be honest, a power surge can vary from all electronics just stopped, or completely destroyed.

I recommend that ask you this question on the official forums of the XBox. The experts there will be more knowledge on how to diagnose the extent of the damage.
