Y580 mSATA speed

Hello world

I recently bought the new lenovo laptop Y580, and I have a question that I couldn't find the answer to. I was wondering what is the connection speed for the mSATA slot. I know that the normal SATA hard drive connection is 3 Gbit/s, but I was hoping that the port of mSATA is 6 Gbps, what makes a big difference for SSD. If anyone can answer this question I would really appreciate it.

Thank you

Taylor

Hi taylor,.

According to the manual, it does.
SATA controller: serial ata, sata 6.0 GB/s, integrated into the chipset

  • Y580 mSATA will work with 6 GB/s speed?

    Hello

    According to Y580 Manual:

SATA controller: serial ata, sata 6.0 GB/s, integrated into the chipset

As it is said, SATA interface can work with 6.0 GB/s, but mSATA can work with this speed too?

I need to know, because im afraid that I'll buy a 6.0 GB/s mSATA SSD and it works with 3.0 GB/s.

    Thank you.

    It will of course. The Msata slot is a sata3 (6 Gb/s) and the Bay 2.5 "is a sata 2 (3 Gb/s).

I have a Crucial M4 installed in Msata slot. It's the 256 GB model. He gets of the readings all about 450-500Mbs and writes at about half that speed. I noticed different benchmarks give results different tho.

Do not believe what the manufacturing, the speeds are, check with someone who actually put benched them.

  • [Y580] mSATA problem :/

I have installed on two HDDs Y580. 1 TB HDD and SSD 120 GB (Kingston SMS200S3 / 120G). On both discs, I have Windows 7 x 64, but I only use it on the SSD. Yesterday, when I switched the computer blue screen appeared as soon as Windows starts to load. Blue screen also appears when I want to boot from the HARD drive. After removing the SSD system starts normally.

    Blue screen:

    CACHE_MANAGER

    STOP: 0 X 00000034 (0 X 0000000000000107, 0 X 000000000000, 0XFFFFFFFFC0000420, 0 X 0000000000000000)

Now it only works on Windows, and only when the SSD HDD is not inserted.
When I put the SSD drive, ALWAYS have a blue screen. How is trying to turn the system on an SSD, because I try to turn the system on the HARD drive, as you try to run the installation of the windows 7 with memory stick, DVD, OneKeyRecovery... ALWAYS! BIOS detects the drive, and I know it works, because if I run a Linux LiveCD I can browse the contents of the SSD. Any ideas...?

I solved the problem. Linux LiveCD, I moved the SSD HARD drive, then using
another Linux format the SSD drive and installed Windows 8 from a USB flash drive.
I did have to format the HARD drive, or delete.

  • The Y580 there an mSATA II or III mSATA?

Basically, I'm looking to move the mSATA SSD 16 GB in my y580 to a 128 GB one so I can install Windows and other top programs to run faster all by having the 1 TB 5400 RPM HARD drive for everything else. I was just wondering, the Y580 supports speeds mSATA III? and if not, what mSATA SSD speed is it supported? Also of the suggestions or recommendations what mSATA SSD I should get. Thanks in andvance ():

It is SATA III, but after I put Mushkin mSATA III 120 GB of disk, the faster, I could never see in HD Tunes was 270 MB/s with an average of 236 mb/s, however ATTO benchmark showed 550 MB/sec 256 kb + pieces:

PS you will probably have to reinstall Windows from scratch (and I don't think it would be illegal for download us .iso from unofficial places, since we already bought with the laptop and Lenovo could not provide us with an ability to create backup diskettes)

  • Can I install an ssd m2 in a VN7 Aspire 591 G (Nitro)?

Canadian who do not come with SSD, but I would like to install an and I wonder if its possible. If so, what size should it be?

I found this: "well, first of all: the m2 in the VN7 - 591 G Groove is 'only' SATA, PCIe is not supported, because as far as I know.» Maybe (but I don't know who) the PCIe will work, but even in this case only with mSATA-speeds, so it's just a waste of money. just the motherboard does not support the PCIe m2.

  • Add mSATA to Y580

I had a problem adding mSATA my Y580.

I've successfully added in the system, but I can not boot up to windows. The thing can be seen in the BIOS, and I put my HARD drive to be the 1st boot. Now, once that windows is about to load I've always had a blue screen.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you.

the only solution that worked was restoring the old backup to a new msata. This means making the image of the existing installation of windows in the new msata.

  • [Y580] SSD - mSATA vs SATA

    Hello

I have a Y580 comes with the 7200 500 GB HDD. I think about adding 120GB SSD, but there are 2 solutions:

1: buy a new mSATA SSD and add in the free space inside the laptop (from what I remember, there is enough room for it)

2nd: buy a new SATA SSD and add it instead of the actual HARD disk (which I'll use an external enclosure to external hard drive).

We suggest to you? Is significantly faster than the mSATA SATA? It is always worth to carry an external hard drive just to use the SATA SSD?

    What model\brand advise you?

  • Y580 - do I have to install a 256GB SSD mSata instead of the 32 GB one?

    Hello

I bought a Y580 with 750 + 32 GB SSD. I want to buy a Crucial M4 SSD mSATA and install it in place of the 32 GB one.

Should what additional things I do this? Should I just covers or padding for her? Will it screw? In addition, it would be possible for my to install a new copy of Windows 7 on SSD?

Would be really helpful if someone who's done this before post some links to the material I need.

    Thank you!

For the size of the screws, refer to this topic
    http://forums.Lenovo.com/T5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Y580-screw-size-that-secures-wireless-adapt...
I'm not sure but I think that all the msata ssd are not the same size.
For the installation of OS on ssd there was no problem because the size of the ssd 256 GB, which should be more than enough.
Just to make a note, I want you to know that you can make use of the 32 GB ssd so by merging both the ssd and HDD by using fast disk. For this, you need to install the os on the ssd and join the readers. Read this document for more information

  • Maximum size of mSATA SSD in ideapad Y580

    Hi all

What is the maximum size of mSATA SSD that is supported by Y580 ideapad?

    125 or 256 GB?

    What?

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the community!

I don't think that there is no constraint of size on the mSATA connection in your pc. the only constraints are the sizes of SSD and your wallet.

I have not seen a larger than 256 GB yet and that's what I have in one of my machines. very happy with it.

    Cheers.

  • How to install msata in Ideapad Y580?

Can anyone provide a step by step instructions how install the msata ssd in the Y580?

I got my lenovo Y580 with a 1 TB HARD drive and I want to add the ssd msata for caching purposes only.

    Thank you.

THIS IS APPLICABLE ONLY IF YOU ARE CONFIGURING YOUR SSD AS A CACHE CONFIGURATION.

The msata SSD used is MyDigitalSSD 64 GB 50 mm Bullet Proof mSATA SSD - MDM-5064.

I read a number of threads in the net regarding installing the msata SSD in their Y580 Lenovo. Intel Rapid Storage Tech (TSRI) does not work and it is not applicable to Y580, because the "Accélération" function is missing.

    Here are the steps below:

-backup all your files and create a bootable disc just in case where it will fail.

-Install the msata in the slot. You can access at the back of your laptop by opening the cover 2 holes in the back.

-set the bios to AHCI and not compatible.

    -Start windows.

-Download the software "VeloSSD" trial from softpedia 2.0.0.7 and do not update to 2.0.1.1 or newer version. Note that the velossd 2.0.0.7 works well with my system. However the latest version will prompt me with the error. I have already asked the support for this software because of the problem I'm having.

-start and configure the software, but the limitation of the software is only up to 32GB. However, when you buy it for $9.99, you can set a larger cache size.

    -FACT-

Now with my current setup of Y580, I can boot windows 7 within the 35secs from optimizer to start EA.

  • x 230 mSATA working SATA 2 speeds

I installed a MyDigitalSSD 256 GB Smart Series SATA III but I only seem to get SATA 2 speeds.

Sales representative said Lenovo the x 230 is SATA 3 for the slot mSATA and CrystalDiskInfo seems to confirm what it displays a Transfer Mode SATA/600, although HD Tune reports as SATA 2.

Here are the results I get:

While the comment markers look like this:

I checked the BIOS is set to AHCI.

Any other ideas what could happen?

  • Y580: OS install on new mSATA SSD disk HARD + mSATA SSD config

    Hi guys,.

I was wondering if anyone has done this? I have the 1 TB HDD + 32 GB mSATA config, but I want to install a new mSATA SSD possibly of 128 or 256 for my operating system and applications. I heard there was a problem with the removal of partitions due to Lenovo Rapid Storage. Has anyone successfully circumvented this?

I guess that separate readers via these instructions http://78.9.150.202/pub/RapidDrive.pdf
then saving them, putting in the mSATA SSD again and do a clean install should work.

  • Adding an mSATA SSD to a Y580 ideapad

My original HD goes wrong so I decided to buy a new HD and an mSATA SSD. I have read several forums and watched videos more then I would have liked and I do not always find everything that can guide me through this. I want my mSATA be configured as on my original HD with a partition C: and D: and it be able to run the recovery of one button and everything that the original HD was able to do. So I want the replacement HD drive to be just for storage. My computer did not come with an mSATA initially. It has the Intel Rapid Storage Technology technology, but I can't find RapidTool.exe that some forums say is necessary.

So I ended up making just a restore factory disk and used on the mSATA and it did everything I wanted except make a D: drive but all the features work so far and I don't see anything wrong. Now for the disk drive do I just plug n play or what I need to do something more?

  • Fresh Y580 Windows on new mSATA SSD

    Hello

I have a question. My OS works on HARD drive, because I don't have a SSD, only the standard HARD disk. I recently bought the new mSATA SSD and now I want to install windows 7 on this new album. I have the OEM version of windows, so can I install new own edition windows Home premium and activate it with the current code? After that, I can download and install the drivers myself.

I have already created OneKey recovery DVD with the factory settings, just in case.

It will be nice just install new win and activate it with the existing code, but I've never done this before.

    Thnx for response.

    Hello
Yes, you can do it. The only problem, which some people have faced is dual-boot. Sometimes, the two storage devices agree when each of them contains an operating system that can lead to errors. It is not important that you would face this, but I've mentioned just to tell you, because you know that beforehand you can meet it.
Another thing, activation is that the key to COA (certificate of Aunthencity) on the back of your laptop does not work directly. You must contact microsoft to obtain a product key for time to use at this time.
Ask if any clarity is necessary.
