Z400: "lost in the past..." I need guidelines Ram upgrade on a Z400

How many Ram Win 7 can recognize and use in a Z400 Quad core?

I just bought a Refurb factory because I have a legacy PC running 32-bit software. I used 4 GB of Ram in my previous core Dual 2 under Vista Ultimate and it was ok, but I want max processing power for video rendering with a bit more robust Ram memory. Looking around, there seems to be a split between people saying Win 7 can only recognize and use a maximum of 4 GB, which I find hard to believe. I also hear his depends on how many channels, you're behind the wheel and I think it is 3. It is the Quad 2.66 GHz configuration with 6 locations and I think 4 in use, and I think that the claim is that it can hold up to 16 GB, but I am confused about how this is done.

According to the HP website, it seems that it will be an Intel Xeon W3520, 2.66 GHz, 4 MB cache, 1066 MHz memory, 4.8GT / s QPI, Quad-Core. Then, they advise the following:

DIMMs must be distributed across all channels memory three for best performance. Each processor supports up to 3 channels of memory DDR3. In order to achieve a return at least maximum 1 DIMM must be inserted in each channel. To get full support 6-channel, 2 transformers MUST be installed.

I don't understand this. I also do not understand if I can mix the memory sizes in the slots and remain evenly distributed and stable. I'll have to see if it comes with a 1Gx4 or 2Gx2. If I have a minimum of 2 open unused slots and I want to go back up to 8-16 GB of DIMM3s, and if it is still useful, should I start with 2 x 4 or 4 x 2, 6 x 2 or 4 x 4?

Hello:

Limitations of memory in 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems are mathematical.

This article can explain how it works better than I.

However, different versions of Windows have memory limitations as set forth in the list below.

Bottom line... If you want to run more than 4 GB of physical memory, you must run a 64-bit operating system.
