Z400/P400 SSD Drive Caddy?
I'm looking to replace the optical drive with a cart to ride the current hard drive alongside a new SSD for the start: does anyone know if this exists, or if one made for a different model will work? I can easily find those for the series Y Ideapads on ebay, but none for the z or p (which I believe are virtually identical to the chassis? correct me if I'm wrong).
Any idea would be appreciated!
Hi albertchang

Satellite Pro C50 - A - 1 K 9 - use of the HARD Drive Caddy
Hello
When I got my new laptop the first think I did was to install an SSD.
I don't usually use my optical Bay so I am planning to install a HARD drive enclosure.
Someone has already done this, and if so have you had any problems? Also, what are data transfer speeds?Thank you
Fraser
I can't tell you if this extra HARD drive caddy will work in the Satellite Pro C50 series STRANGE Bay - A - 1 K 9 because that depends on the support of the BIOS and the controller.
I read about these updates several times in different forums and to be stone, sometimes it is possible, but in many cases, the BIOS does not recognize this drive caddy HARD and laptop does not start.
In the case where you have already tried these updates, please share the details with us!
I think it would be very interesting for others, if this update worked correctly. -

HP Pavilion 15-p211ne: upgrade to ssd drive
Hello
I recently bought a new HP Pavilion 15-p211ne and I want to replace the optical drive with ssd drive, I have the following questions:
1 should I put the SSD as a secondary drive and reinstall windows, or it must be primary?
2. What is the right size: 9.5 mm Universal SATA 2nd disc HARD SSD Hard Drive Caddy for CD / DVD-ROM optical Bay or 12.7 mm
3. is there an official Universal SATA drive 2nd HARD SSD Caddy drive for CD / DVD-ROM optical Bay of HP, and is it safe to install no hp caddy on my new laptop computer.Kind regards
Here is the Service Manual:
It is a 9.5 mm optical drive. See page 63 for removal instructions. You can use any optical drive SATA 9.5 mm hard drive adapter tray. HP is no 'official' part, so you must use a version of alternative, and they are widely available. Try jacobsparts.com.
However, the SATA interface for the optical drive is slower and will not support booting from the hard disk into the adapter. So I advise you not to put a SSD in one of these adapters because it will not run at full speed.
The optimal configuration is an SSD as main boot drive and a mechanical drive in pure storage adapter.
Unfortunately, access to the hard drive inside the laptop is a little difficult and potentially void the warranty if you mess up anything in the process. The manual contains instructions to access the hard disk (p. 88), and these videos show the removal of the top cover (on a closely related model) which is the hardest part:

2nd drive HARD drive caddy optical Bay - Pavilion dv6700
Hello world
I hope someone here can help with that, because I'm out of ideas...
I've recently updated the primary drive of my laptop dv6700 (dv6820es) with an SSD. I did a new install of Win_7_32 and there is no problem at all.
But this record is not that great, so I decided to plug in the SATA HARD disk-old through the optical drive Bay in order to have the storage capacity. For this, I ordered a SATA-to-PATA caddy that fits perfectly.
The big problem now is to make this combination of work:
- Behavior of the BIOS: it is difficult to say if the BIOS detects the drive properly, as long as this model of the BIOS is pretty poor in the configuration/information options. In any case, when I press F9 with the 2nd HARD drive plugged in, a new startup option appears as well as the SSD and is listed as "7. Notebook hard drive. The HARD drive is spinning too. Because of what I guess that the BIOS detects, at least, 'something' (but again, I can't tell if the HARD drive as it is or just some unknown decive). Moreover, the BIOS is updated to the latest available version: l58 A.
- Behavior of Windows: for what I can see, Windows behaves as if the reader was not there. Nothing in the "Device Manager" and nothing in the "Disk Manager", just the SSD drive is detected. With one exception, in one of the restarts a lot I did the player that presented themselves. The usual text bubble said 'installation disk... ". ", and apparently it installed fine. After installation, there was this new IDE drive "" under "Drives" in the "Windows Device Manager". Well, it seems to work! But unfortunately, I've seen my hopes be disappointed in the next step, when you try to initialize the drive through the "Disk Manager". First of all, it took a long time (like 4-5 minutes) with the program that 'think', finally launch one of these errors of the infamous 'cyclic redundancy. I rebooted, but the player was not there yet. And he never showed up again, just this time.
Sad thing is that I can't tell what makes the difference. I updated some things like the drivers of Intel chip, Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver (not really necessary, I suppose, but just in case)... throughout this process. But in fact nothing in particular time it almost worked.
My ATA drivers are the most recent available for my chipset AHCI. Is there a driver I'm missing? Is there an impossibility for the 2nd HDD (PATA) to work with the SSD works in AHCI mode?
Well, I think it's all (sorry for the long post). Maybe someone has endured/solved a similar problem.
Please share your knowledge

Hi Erico,
Sorry for the confusion of information.
The HARD drive is a SATA drive and the optical drive is a PATA drive, so I used a caddy SATA-PATA. Something like that:
http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?Main_Page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=226
(Although the one I ordered is not the manufacturer)
Whereas, although the HARD drive is a SATA drive, it should be detected as a PATA one. Is it possible to make interfaces SATA AHCI as PATA work together? Is not in this case. Need a motherboard very ethusiast and advanced BIOS level.
[Edit: the chipset is, moreover, of the Mobile Intel 965 Express Family.]
Perhaps that the liaison has a cable better than purchased translation Setup. A lot of people seem to be satisfied with it.
The physical connection of hard disks must be of the same type for the reason that I expressed in my previous post, unless there is a translation of the work cable between SATA and PATA.
If your laptop has a double drive Bay and you have installed the drive in the Bay with a caddy and cable SATA cononector it would be simple.

Best external SSD drive?
Looking for a new external SSD drive. What are some of the best out there for the money? Really need 1 TB or more.
Thank you!
The fastest and most effective will be a PCIe SSD installed in an enclosed. Understand that serves as an external SSD, speed may be limited by the connection in use and you can not achieve the performance that the SSD is capable of. The fastest connection to date is Thunderbolt2, which may or may not be fast enough (I just don't know).
You can get these here:

Run Windows 10 from an external SSD drive? Yes, it works!
That's what I did to make it work. The whole process takes about 45 minutes, but I think that it really is worth it if you want to run quick and clean Windows 10 on your iMac.
What you need:
- An SSD external - data is deleted
- An iMac 27 "(end of 2013 in my case)
Temporarily, for the installation, you will also need:
- A computer with Windows 7, 8 or 10 to copy the correct files on the SSD drive and make it bootable
- A computer running with OS X download BootCamp
- A USB - data is erased
First, in Windows, you get a file ISO for Windows 10. You can use the media to https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 authoring tool and choose to save it as ISO file (do not create a USB bootable media).
- Double-click on the. ISO file. This will mount the disk to install on a disk (in my case, the letter E).
- Connect the SSD drive to a free USB port
- Open an administrator command prompt and type:
- DiskPart
- list disk (to identify your external SSD drive number)
- select disk 2 (or another number to your external SSD drive, make sure you do not erase your internal drive, usually on 0).
- clean - be careful, if you have selected the wrong disc, erase all the data on it
- create part pri
- Quick format
- assign letter = O (or another letter if already used)
- assets
- output
- DISM/apply-image /imagefile:"E:\sources\install.esd" / index: 1 /ApplyDir:Y:------(change E to another letter for the ISO file mounted)
- BCDBOOT. EXE Y:\WINDOWS/s Y:/f BIOS (so that the boot in the BIOS only drive (not EFI))
- output
- Eject all disks properly or simply shut down your PC.
Then on your Mac, open the wizard BootCamp (click on Launchpad and type "bootcamp" to find) and check ONLY "download the latest software of Apple's Windows support. Save it on your USB thumb drive. Stop your iMac. Remove the USB key and keep it in your hand.
Turn on your iMac by pressing the option (alt) key. You will see an orange icon with Windows. Select this option and wait until you see 'Getting ready devices', wait a little longer until you hear the startup chime and press the option (alt) key to make sure that start you on the external hard drive. That's all!
Now you have a copy of Windows from your external USB drive. You just need to install the BootCamp drivers on your USB (\Bootcamp\Setup.exe). Reset.
Oh, you have 10 Windows running natively on your beautiful iMac.
Enjoy!
The answer is in the response. I don't know how to post a tip!

Installation internal SSD drive and storage of documents on external hard drive
Hello!
I have an older iMac and I want to speed it up by installing a SSD drive. Currently, my internal hard drive has 2 TB of storage, and I don't want to pay for one SSD of this size. I consider the use of an external drive for my files and using the SSD internal applications and the operating system. Can this work? What is the internal SSD of minimum size I should get, more or less, according to my number of apps? The documents will open at a decent speed? It is up to me to use an external hard drive with a Firewire instead of USB connection? Thank you!
Hi Dan:
Apps it really depends how much you use and what types of data you want to keep in vs SSD HARD drive.
120-128 GB SSD: USD price: 60-70 price range.
for 250/256 GB SSD: about USD: price range of 80-90
for 500/512 GB SSD: about USD: price range of 130-150
An external 2 TB drive: for laptop (USB bus-powered - usually 2.5 "HDD included): 90 us $, for the largest 3.5" Office style HDD: 90 USD
For me:
I store all my music on the external network drive (RAID 1 configuration, 2 TB, and 50 percent full this time), all my documents/pictures are still in my 500 GB SSD.
I don't have much video projects on my SSD.
I used about 200 GB in my internal SSD flash drive
Good luck finding your best solution.

How to move iTunes to support SSD drive on secondary disk files
Hello
I think the title pretty much everything said. My SSD drive app fills and although I have three drives in my desktop Mac PRO somehow the artwork & mobile apps are like 20 gigs. The music files are in a secondary drive. What is the best way to move all the files to support the HUGE secondary disk so I don't understand all of a sudden the dreaded exclamation point?
Thank you
Enio
10.11.4 running
In essence, you must keep the support files in the folder as the iTunes music files, then let iTunes knows where they are located.
It is better than the iTunes folder everything will be moved to the external drive, not just the music and media files. The link below is instructions on how to do it properly. You "partially" here, but you should still be able to follow them, to make the move.

Tecra S4 does not detect the SSD drive
Hello together,
I try to install a Samsung SSD 840 Pro to install in my Tecra S4. But when I try to install Windows 7, there is no detected SSD.
What can I do that Windows detects the SSD drive?
With greetings
GolfbaerHello
You must add the SATA/RAID driver.
Download from here:
http://Support1.toshiba-tro.de/Tedd-files2/0/RAID-drv-20070719134547.zipNow, go to the BIOS and on the 3rd page of the BIOS, you can change the RAID settings to * 1RAID-0. *.
Eventually, you will need to enter the password 1234 + and then press on + ENTER +.
Now boot from the Windows 7 installation disc.
Select "Custom Installation.
Connect the USB where the RAID driver filesRegarding the selection of the target (SSD drive isn't visible yet) disk, select "Load Driver" and navigate to the USB key, where is the folder with the drivers. Setup for Win 7 now allows you to select a memory stick USB attached.
Confirm and after that we should include a list of available devices (SOLID-STATE drive)

Re: Tecra R950-18F: win 8 Pro starts a new SSD drive
Hello
Having a few issues with the victory 8 DVD pro included with my laptop.
BIOS is set as UEFI + secure boot, win 8 pro dvd starts and I can start recovery, after a while, he asks disc 2 and starts to recover win 8.
After completion and reboot, it does not start and shows just the toshiba logo.
Factory hdd with SSD OCZ VERTEX 4 is replaced by the bios.
What could be the problem?
> Drive HARD factory is replaced with SSD OCZ VERTEX 4 recognized by the Bios.
You have the same start-up problems 8 win using the original HDD equipped Tecra R950?
From my point of view, it would be possible that this laptop does not start successfully because of the new SSD.
I recommend you check the previous HARD disk.
If the laptop could start correctly, the problem is related to the new SSD drive. In some cases, it would be possible that the SSD firmware must be updated.
