Updates and original installation of Windows Vista
Hello
Try to update an old PC with windows vista on it (this isn't my pc)
I formatted the hard drive and used the original disc that came with it to install vista, but that's before any service pack.
What do I have to wait for the hundreds of updates to happen, or can I go and install my downloaded pre the SP1 and then SP2?
Thank you

I did so many times in this way without any problems.
Reinstall Vista > install SP1, SP2, then > and then get the rest updates.
If you encounter problems with SP records, use it to download again.
Click Start > right click on computer > left click on properties > see if you have Vista 32 bit or Vista 64-bit installed.
It will also tell you which SP you have installed.

I think I have problems arising from the Windows updates do not install it.
I can't uninstall all the programs already on the computer - I get the message "Please wait while the current program is finshed uninstall or changed" on every single program.
Also, anything with an authorisation button freezes as son as I click on it without the authorization window popping up. for example. the clock or the managed task advanced details.
This has led to problems trying to install other software for example. I tried to install a game that failed, because the .NET framework 4 would not install.

Update the Configuration failed on Windows Vista when the computer was closed prematurely at sea
My son turned off the computer before the update of configuration was complete. It uses a Compaq Vista premium desktop computer. The operating system will not load (it is stuck in a loop trying to reconfigure the old settings before the update). We have tried to start in Mode safe mode and do a system restore. The first available date is November 15, when the update occurred. System Restore got the point to finalize and then jammed (lasted at least 4 hours). Any suggestions other than a complete system to recharge?
Hi DRoggeman,
Welcome to Microsoft Answers Community Forums.
I suggest you to do the Startup Repair to fix boot of startup problem and uninstall all updates you have installed.
Reinstall or install updates for your computer by going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
To perform the Startup Repair, you need to restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc. If you do not restart your computer from the disk, the option to repair your computer will not appear.
1. Insert the installation disc.
2. restart your computer.
Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the lock button, and then click restart.
3. If you are prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.
Note
If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or a DVD, see the documentation provided with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings. For more information, see BIOS: frequently asked questions.
4. choose your language settings, and then click Next.
5. click on repair your computer.
6. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
7. in the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair. Startup Repair can invite you to make choices as it tries to solve the problem, and if necessary, it may restart your computer, because it makes the repairs.

Windows Update does not recognize that Windows Vista SP2 is NOT installed.
I have Windows Vista x 64 with SP1 and I defined updates on automatic. However, it does recognize that the SP2 is not installed... I'm afraid to try to install it manually after reading all the trouble with SP2 on this site. Could you please tell me why the updates fails to recognize the SP2 is not installed and I have to do to solve it? I'm not a master IT person, I just want my computer to be as up-to-date as possible.
Thanks for the advice and any help I can get.
Hi Alamogordo,
Welcome to Microsoft Windows forums!
Automatic updates would have tried to install sp2 and the installation was corrupt and failed. So it will not try to reinstall. We have to uninstall sp2 to view update history and try to download and install manually.
1. click on Start to type windows update in the start search box and click on enter
2. click on view history of update and uninstall sp2 (kb948465)
3. use the below given link to download sp2 (download to your desktop)
Follow these methods before installing sp2
Method 1
Try to put your computer in clean boot mode and check if the problem persists. To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. This article describes how to solve problems in Windows Vista or Windows 7 by performing a clean boot.
Steps to put your computer in a clean boot:
1. click on Start
2. type msconfig in the Search box and press ENTER.If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click continue.
1. in the general tab, click Selective startup.
2. under Selective startup, clear the Load Startup items check box.
3. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click disable all.
4. click on OK.
5. When you are prompted, click restart.Method 2
Run the system update tool
System resources, such as file of data, even in the data memory and registry data, can develop inconsistencies during the lifecycle of the operating system. These contradictions may be caused by various hardware failures or can be caused by software problems. In some cases, these inconsistencies can affect the Windows Service store, and they can cause software updates not do not work. The system update tool attempts to resolve these inconsistencies.
1. open the link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821 scroll through Microsoft Download Center where several links under this section.
2. first link is for 32-bit operating system and the second is 64-bit.
3. click on the appropriate link, then run it on your computer.
4. Once completed, try to install sp2 through automatic updates
5. in the case of a failure to install manually

Cannot install updates or Flash Player on Windows Vista
I know this is an old machine, but I really need help.
I recently had to restore laptop cleaning to factory settings and have had problems with windows update since.
Running Vista Home 32-bit.
Installing sp2, but now he finds other 120ish updated but will not progress the 0% download status
Also cannot install latest Flash Player. Going to download but not install.
Some research suggests that this was a certificate problem and run up-to-date KB2763674
Have downloaded it but when I try to run it I am stuck as I threw in a "search for update" constantly.
Pointers appreciated.

Is someone can you please tell me when Google Chrome will stop supporting 2007 Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista Home
Go Mary
I posted a substitution for Vista and XP operating systems. Please follow my instructions in this thread, or switch to Mozilla Firefox or Opera browser:
http://www.MSFN.org/Board/topic/175099-instructions-Google-chrome-end-of-support-VistaXp/
I always highly recommend to switch to Mozilla Firefox, Opera, or one of many other supported browsers.
While my dose turns off the message, you will NO longer receive updates of Google Chrome.
Given that Microsoft will support Vista at least a year, I don't understand Google dropping support early reasoning.

some Windows updates do not install on Windows vista.
Original title: update failure
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate on a Dell Vostro laptop.
Recently I received notice of update of the computer (where the sleep button turns red with the shield of Microsoft - so that when you click on it begins to install the updates before you shut down). However, the first question, I noticed was the extraordinary length of time it took to 'install' updates... more than 8 hours, in many cases, this can be problematic because he inisists that you do not feed disabled or stopped during the process.
Despite the long waiting to install the updates that several "important" updates several times not to settle, which inevitably means that the next day that the computeer said that it has developed important to install...
Updates is fails to install.
