4 GB of ram shows 932 usable

I have a HP pavilion laptop windows 222tu G6 8. first I used win 7 64 bit, but the drivers were not compatible, so put on level to windows 8 pro. It has installed a system of 32-bit operating... I tried all possible measures, including the re install. I wanted to convert it to 64 bit win8. will that solve my problem or give me some ways to suggestions.

Hi Shibinkta,

Method 1: I suggest you try the following steps.

  1. Hold down the Windows key and press R,.
  2. Type msconfig in the run (or the search box) and press ENTER.
  3. In Windows System Configuration, click the Startup tab,
  4. Click the Advanced Options button.
  5. Take off the box "Maximum memory,"
  6. Click OK,
  7. Click on apply, then OK to exit.
  8. Restart the computer for the change to take effect.

Method 2:

Step 1:

Updated THE system BIOS

The problem can occur because THE system BIOS is outdated. If you have an old computer, the system may be unable to access any of the installed RAM. In this case, you must update the BIOS OF THE system to the latest version.

To update the BIOS of your computer, visit the website of the manufacturer of your computer to download the update of the BIOS. Or contact the manufacturer of your computer for help.

Step 2:

Check the BIOS settings

The problem can occur because some BIOS settings are incorrect.

a. enable the memory remapping feature

I suggest you to check the BIOS settings to see if the memory remapping feature is turned on. Remapping memory access Windows for more memory. You can enable the memory remapping feature in the BIOS by starting the configuration of the system. See the Guide to your computer for instructions on starting the installation of the system on your computer. The name of the memory remapping feature may be different for different hardware vendors. This may be listed as remapping memory, memory expansion, or something similar. Don't forget that your computer can not supported the memory remapping feature.

Change the size of video opening AGP in BIOS settings

I suggest you to check the BIOS settings to display the amount of memory that you allocated to AGP video opening. It's the memory that shares with the video card that is used for texture mapping and make the system. This memory would not be served by the system, because it is locked by the video card. You can adjust the size of video opening AGP in BIOS. Standard settings are "32 MB," "64 MB", "128MB" and "Auto". After you change this setting in the BIOS, restart your computer and then check the usable memory. You can test each setting to see which offers the best results.

WARNING:

BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

Method 3:

The problem can occur because there are problems with the physical RAM installed. Then

Step 1:

Check if you have bad RAM memory

To check if you encounter this problem, turn off the computer, unplug the computer, and then swap the order of the memory.

Step 2:

Make sure that the arrangement of memory is correct

Refer to the User Guide for the computer to determine in what order the modules of memory must be inserted in the memory locations. The system may ask you to use specific locations when you use not all the places available. For example, the computer has four available slots. But you may need to use the slot 1 and slot 3 If you want to use only two memory modules.

Step 3:

Check if the memory cards spacers are used

If you use a pimple card memory to contain several modules of memory on the computer, the system may require specific configurations for this scenario. Therefore, usable memory may be less than expected.

OK, I got the original 6GB (3x2gb) RAM (1600), installed on a MSI 880GM-E43 motherboard and a Phenom II X 4 (I think either 3.6 or 4.0 Ghz) and windows all read well. I buy a new motherboard Gigabyte 970 a - UD3 and another key to 2 GB RAM and install. Now when I go to windows, it says properties

"Memory (live RAM) installed: 8.00 GB (3.25 GB usable). So firstly that I went into the BIOS to check if it shows the correct information and he did. Then I changed my CPU speed clocked 3.4 to 4.0 Ghz. I loaded windows and he always says the same thing "memory (RAM) installed: 8.00 (3.25 GB usable)" and now, the processor has not changed either "processor: AMD Athlon (TM) II X 4 965 3.40 GHz processor". No, there is no problem, other than your lost money by buying
    more than 4 GB.

All versions of Windows 32-bit client (XP/Vista/7 not only) have a 4GB
address space (64-bit versions can use much more). It's the
theoretical upper limit beyond which you cannot go.
But you can't use the whole address space. Even if you have a
Address space of 4 GB, you can only use around 3. 1 GB of RAM. It's
because some of the space is used by the hardware and is not available for
operating system and applications. The amount you can use varies, depending on what hardware you have installed, but can
range from as little as 2 GB to 3.5 GB. It's usually around
GB 3.1. you are a little below this average.

Note that the hardware is using the space, not the real address
The RAM itself. If you have a larger amount of RAM, the rest of the RAM
goes unused because there is no address to map space to.

    Mr. bond 007

If you use a variant of 32-bit Windows 7.

There is a limit of address space TOTAL of 4 GB for 32-bit Microsoft operating systems.

The card mother and video card requires little RAM depending on the configuration. The total memory is developed taking into account first of all hardware resources, and then RAM is added for a TOTAL of 4 GB.

If you want to get the best out of 4 GB of RAM or more, you must run the 64-bit version operating system.

Note that even the 64 - bit variants may lose 0.25 GB where only 4 GB of RAM is installed.

  • 4 GB of ram installed, but usable only 2.43 GB

    Hello.

Recently, I upgraded my new laptop (thinkpad L512: 2 GB of ram, originally) with a new 2 GB ram.

I was expecting to the usable memory must be at least 3 GB, but it appeared that only 2.43 GB is used.

I don't know why this is happening.

I checked the BIOS and changed the memory location two, but he showed that only 2.43 GB is used.

    Memory: 2 GB PC3 - 10600 DDR3 1333 MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM) SDRAM - 2 c.

    What's wrong?

Intel graphics card have no memory dedicated, but uses some of the computer's system memory. The amount of memory used for the graphics might be an amount fixed or may vary up to a maximum amount. It depends on if the computer manufacturer has configured the computer to use a fixed amount, a dynamic amount (ranging up to a maximum amount) or a combination of fixed and dynamic graphics memory amounts.

The amount of memory usable did you have before the upgrade to 4 GB?

What version of Windows are you using? It is 32-bit or 64-bit?

What is the model number of your computer (for example: 4029-3EG)?

    Hi @minxfiles ,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

This is a good place to find answers and advice!

You have the best experience in the HP forum, I would like to draw your attention to the Guide of the HP Forums Learn how Post and more

I understand that you have 6 GB of ram and it is only readable 929 reading.

Just to be sure you're correct DDR3 ram installation?

Installing the chips of RAM, they must be of the type suitable and properly matched.  You can have 2 @2 for 4 GB of ram or 2@4 GB to 8 GB of ram. To have 6 GB of ram, you would need 1@6 GB to 6 GB of ram.

If you have added a 4 GB of ram with the original 2 is it came with, it is very likely what is causing the problem.

    Good luck!

  • 4 (2.62 usable) GB RAM?

Please help me with this problem:

    System

    --------------------------------------------------------------
    OS: Windows 7 SP 1
Processor: AMD C-60 with radeon HD 1.0 Ghz graphics card

installation of memory (RAM): 4.00 GB (2.62 GB usable)

    system type: 32-bit

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

Why my GB of RAM only 2.62 usable?
How to set and get all the existing ram?

It is a feature, not a bug.  Although the 32-bit versions of Windows have an address space of 4 GB of memory, some of these addresses are used for different hardware devices installed on your computer.  Any "memory address" used for a piece of hardware is not available as the address of your RAM.  So, even if your system can install 4 GB of RAM, the amount of addressable RAM in fact (i.e. usable) of Windows will be a little less.

With 4 GB of physical RAM installed, the usable RAM is often around 3.2 GB, but maybe you have a video card that has a lot of built-in RAM (which needs the address space, even if it has its own physical memory chips) or maybe you have several PCI or PCIe cards that use the memory address space.

If you want to have more RAM available for Windows, you need go to the 64 bit version of Windows 7.
