6940 printing eratic

My Deskjet 6940 is weird. It allows to print the top of a page normally and then the lower 3/4 of the page in red tones. There are no lights or error messages. Color cartridge is a few weeks old. Black basket is brand new. (Both are HP carts) Check black ink levels is complete and the color is empty. (still print out red!) Tried to reboot the computer and printer, searching for new updates and drivers, Kaleidoscope, and cleaning heads etc. Nothing works. Strange thing is that the top of the page will display black text, photos in color, something - but then the rest of the page out red. How can I fix?

The color cartridge is almost out of ink.  When he had the time to sit a bit, it has enough ink for the supply of cyan, magenta and yellow.   That page prints cyan runs out, leaving red (magenta + yellow).  It seems that some program that you use to print text is sent in the form of a graph, causing the printer to use the cartridge color instead of black for the text.  This can also occur if you are using photo paper, the black cartridge is not compatible with photo paper.

What operating system? In Windows 7 there is a checkbox in the tab 'Complete' for 'Mirror Image', make sure that you uncheck this box.  I would expect similar options in the other drivers.

  • DeskJet 6940 connected via ethernet to the airport cable, do not print

    Hello

I used to run my HP Deskjet 6940 printer using a USB connection. I recently installed an Apple Airport Extreme so I can print wireless. If necessary, the printer is connected to the airport by using an ethernet cable and turned on the light green network. On the advice of a HP rep by phone, I uninstalled all old HP software and reinstalled HP software downloaded from the HP website.

When I try to add the printer to my 'system preferences', it opens a panel that contains the following options:

Protocol: Automatically selects "line printer daemon - LPD.

Address: Empty but allows me to type in the IP address assigned

    Print using: no idea.

More than two things: when I open the HP Device Manager and select "set up a network, information network configuration printer seems in good condition but the Manager does not allow me to 'apply'.  Not sure if this is important but no the printer utilities appear in my folder utlities since the new software download. Thank you.

Looks like you are using a Mac.

First of all, the driver for the Deskjet 6940 is built into Mac OS.  You really didn't need to download additional www.hp.com (sorry for the bad advice) stuff.

Next, we'll check that the printer is on the network.  In Safari, select bookmarks, display all bookmarks.  Select Hello in the left pane, and then check the Deskjet 6940 appears on the list of devices on your network.

Then, follow these instructions to reset the print Mac subsystem: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1341

Now add the printer to the Print & Fax under System Preferences applet by pressing the [+] button.  The Deskjet 6940 should be among the kind Hello from printers.  Select it and press Add.

I think that should do it.

  • Black ink does not print

I have a 6500 Officejet and Deskjet 6940 connected to the same Mac computer.  I tried to print a document at a time.  After this, wouldn't print black ink.  The computer recognizes the black cartridges both because it gives me the ink levels (two OK). I have:

    (1) reset the 6940 holding down the report Page button and pressing the X button 3 times

    (2) [content removed]

    (3) reinstalled the drivers for printers

On the 6500, copy black turns to white.  The 6940 printing the report turns white.

Sometimes, a coincidence is just a coincidence. Because both my printers connected to the computer even stopped printing black at the same time on the same document, I figured it couldn't be a problem with the cartridge or print head.  I did a 1 time on two cleaning machines, but that did not help.

It turned out that the 6940 had a severely clogged cartridge.  Regarding the 6500, I know that the comments on this forum are sometimes disdainful of help you can get directly at HP, but the tech support staff has spent more than 40 minutes with me (and would have spent more time, but I had to catcha plane) try various options, which has solved the problem.

  • HP Officejet 4500 g510-m, it scans, but it does not print

    Hello

I have a HP Officejet 4500 g510-m, which seems to work fine. When I connect it to my laptop, which is a Sony VAIO with windows 7 64 bit, using a usb cable it scans normally but it does not print. There is no error push up, even in the print queue's list as his impression, just not as a document waiting or anything. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, but nothing happened.  I used printing HP and doctor Scan of your site and it print an internal test page, but not one sent from the computer, so he said that this is not a hardware problem, but something is wrong with the software. On other computers, it works fine. Could you help me?

    Thank you

    Lena

    Hi Lena,.

Please try to use an alternative driver steps and let me know if this helps,

It should then allow any functionality such as printing, scanning and fax.

Open Control Panel, and then select devices and printers.

Right-click on the icon HP Officejet 4500 (be sure not to select the icon of the series Fax 4500), and then select printer properties.

If there is no such icon 4500, that it can be combined under any other icon, right-click on the computer icon and look then to the properties of the printer, if not do a right-click any listed printer and check if the icon of 4500 sub list the properties of the printer option.

Click the Advanced tab, and then click new driver. Follow the dialog box until the sweepers list appears, select HP, and then select the HP Deskjet 6940 printer (it is alphabetic sorted by different printers series)... If there is no such clcik pilot the Windows Update icon and allow it some time to update, and then search the list once again appear.

Follow the steps to complete the wizard and confirm a dialog window, then try to pritning with HP Deskjet 6940 replacement icon.

    You can see any difference?

  • OfficeJet J4680: Officejet J4680 ghosts and print at an angle

    Hello

I have an Officejet J4680 all-in-one and he has recently started printing eratically.  No matter if it is print or copy again, gives the same results.  The picture suggests that the document is either slipping or getting stuck fingers in the stages of printing.  If printing is slower that it works better, but I can't get a full page of printing without a failure.

Some lines are ghosts about one inch further down the page, some are printed in a light and appear to stretch, others are printed twice.

    Help, please!

    Hey @Chippy_T,

Welcome to the Forum from HP Support.

I see that you are having print quality problems when printing and copy with your printer HP Officejet J4680 all-in-One. I want to help you with this. I have some suggestions that might help.

I recommend a detailed to deal with ghosting and biased text troubleshooting process. Try the following steps:

We will attack first - feeding of the printer mechanism

    Clean the rollers

Residue of paper or dust on the rollers inside the product, or on the rear access door can cause paper feeding problems. Follow these steps to clean the rollers.
  • 5520: print of posters on HP printers

I had an HP printer and print driver had the facility to take an A4 document and expand it to print on sheets of 4 or more which, when ready and together, have created a larger poster. Unfortunately, this printer is dead, and the new printer driver doesn't have the same capabilities.

How can I find out in advance what HP printers have the ability to post mulisheet - it doesn't seem to be a simple way to ask HP support.

If not, is there another driver I can use my current printer - a 5200 HP all-in-one - or a piece of software that can do the same thing?

    Hello

All recent HP printers no longer offers print Poster, such models offered, but older.

You can try to set another pilot and check to see if that can help you:

    1. From the Control Panel, right click on the printer and select printer properties.
    2. Open the Ports tab and notice what port is selected, then close this window.
    3. Click Add printer, then press 'the printer that I want isn't listed.
    4. Select this option to set a Local Port or a network printer with manual adjustment, it should be the last option.
    5. Select the port used by your original printer in the list of existing Ports.
    6. Select HP FRO the component manufacturer, then search for select ad the HP Deskjet 6940 printer.
Note: If the model is not listed, press Windows Update and allow 5 to 15 minutes until the list of printers appears again, then it will be listed.
    7. Complete the wizard and ty print with the 6940 driver, you will find the option poster in the finishing tab.

    Kind regards

  • DeskJet 6940 invisible to my Mac

I have the same problem more than a year ago poster: I can't get my 6940 printer, which is Ethernetted to my new modem from Qwest, to print wireless from my Mac. Nothing I can will make my computer recognize the printer - it scans in vain. I have reset the printing system, unwisely, seems, and that abolished the listing to the printer, even if it wouldn't work when it was listed. The previous HP Assistant who answered the post previous said I'd be sure that Safari Hello listed the printer as being on the network, and it is not the list. According to the Assistant, the come of correct driver with my Mac - OS X 10.4 - and I've never had this problem before!

It is a new modem, as my old man died, and he gave me fits!

    Please help, smeone! Thank you!

Oh, if it is a new modem/router, it is the problem.

Remove the Ethernet cable and reset the printer:

-Check that the printer is on.

-Press and hold down the button to report Page .

-While holding down three times the report Page button, press the Cancel button.

    -Release of report Page .

Now, given that your ISP wants to control the router more like your printer, to do this:

-Unplug the DSL from the back of the router.

-Restart the router by pulling on the plug for a few seconds.

-With the restarted router and the DSL line removed, connect the cable between the printer and router.

    Then, reset the printing system:

    -Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
-Right (control) click inside the box that lists your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - This will remove ALL your printers!
-Select the sign + to add again. Search for the printer, select it, and wait until the button 'Add' becomes available. Until it clicks.

Finally, with the work and the printer up to now (right?), plug the DSL line back into the router and restart the router.

  • ethernet and usb printer

I have a beautiful deskjet 6940 on a network, but after the passage of XP, I need to take a computer on the internet.  They therefore have no Ethernet access to the printer. I thought thati f I had to install the printer on the XP computer via usb, then I don't have to buy a printer separated for a computer, I only use it as backup and rarely would have to print from.

Question: can I install the USB driver on the XP computer and retain access to the printer, while he remains a shared for other computers network printer?  I thought if necessary, unplug the ethernet cable, computer XP link to printer with USB cable and print that way.  Or settings changed the printer and cause havoc?

This mixed use, if possible, how to install safely on the XP computer?  Uninstall all the drivers first, and then reinstall it from old records or internet? Or uninstall the old drivers after installing new?

    Thanks for reading.

    Hi ellengoudsmit,

You can use the printer while it is connected via USB to a computer and network with others. You should be able to install the software without having to uninstall anything. I recommend the software downloaded from the Web site to ensure you have the latest version.

  • Cleaning under Windows 7 cartridges

I have a HP Deskjet 6940 printer. When I print a document there are noticeable streaks in black text. I do not very often print and the printer low ink level light is not on so I know there is ink in the cartridges. How to clean the cartridges to print under Windows 7? Is it possible to do without the box HP Toolbox? With some older HP printers, it was possible to clean the cartridges by pressing combinations of keys on the printer itself.

Sorry - I was probably not 100% clear in my last post.  The cleansing routine that I've specified does not result in a test at the end page.  If you can repeat the test and when it's over, then press on & hold the power button now press the X button once, then release both.  A test page should print.

At the top of the test page, there should be models of nozzle test. Magenta, yellow, Cyan and black from left to right.  If you can see the models to examine them and check that they resemble full grids without spaces.  If there are spaces or if indeed some colors do not then print the relevant cartridges should probably be replaced.

    Hope this helps.
