Hi zenareddog,
Thank you for using answers Forum.
This is accompanied by any other information?
Can you post the exact error message in this forum?
When the screen is not displayed (start, stop down, randomly, etc.)?
It's SP1, SP2 not?
Impatience back on your part.

I have a Toshiba Satellite. Running Windows Vista Home premium 32 bit.
It was working fine until I tried to intsal Service Pack 1 through Windows install after having been invited by windows that he criticized the update.Now windows won't start. Someone please HELP!
I was able to fix the problem by reinstalling windows using the Installation DVD of Vista. He did a "fresh" Reinstall. To do this you first have to set the BIOS to boot from the CD drive instead of the hard drive.
Instructions to do so can be found here: http://techpaul.wordpress.com/2007/08/03/how-to-boot-from-a-cd/Insert your Vista DVD and choose repair or install. My Vista files have been basically corrupt but not your strength. If they are not to select Repair will give you the opportunity to do a system restore.
Don't forget to reinstall Vista to wipe your hard drive and you will lose your files. System Restore will not. But if you supported rose them to an external drive or online so no problem!
I hope this helps!

I rebooted several times Vista since Vista SP1 download. I tried to get my system prepared for a Boot (as several vital Programs are not yet supported) double Win7. I keep getting stuck on the "0xc01a001d? / 99216 (\Registry\Machine\COMPONENTS\DerivedData... "error.
I have saved on an external USB hard disk and do not have the original system disks.
I downloaded the Vista recovery disk. On all options, he said that I could not restore. He could not read the USB key to find the backup point. He would not even install when I tried to reinstall.
Y at - it a help to me. I am a student and can get another copy of Vista from MSDNAA but would go instead by the download time intensive task, to find drivers on the Dell Web site (I have an Inspiron 1501) and reloading everything.

Backup of personal data (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then do a format and clean install of Vista. Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) won't fix this!
Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or a network otherwise and before using a USB key that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:

BenHi Ben,
Remember to make changes before this problem?
Method 1: Disconnect all external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) readers, etc...) Except the keyboard and mouse and then start.
If this solves the problem, then add back devices at a time until you discover the piece of hardware causing the issue. Then get any drivers\software update for the device.
Method 2: follow the steps mentioned in the article below, and then run the Startup RepairWindows Vista or Windows 7 unbootable and the Startup Repair tool does not resolve the problem
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/934540
Method 3: you can see the steps outlined in the article below, which deals with a similar questionYour computer may freeze or restart to a black screen that has a "0xc0000034" error message after you install Service Pack 1 on Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2

You're in the wrong Forum for your questions.
It is the instance to install Vista OS.
You need the Vista repair Forum, or Windows Update Forum (which I have already mentioned on):
http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistarepair/threads
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If the information below does not it, repost nicely in Forum repair above or in the Windows Update Forum:
Restore point:
Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.
Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...
Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html
Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.
NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.
Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:
http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/
ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html
It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.
You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.
It is NOT a disc of resettlement.
And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.
See you soon.

Fixed a problem! I lost 2 days looking online and e-mail from microsoft... and im done... I did a factory image restore and, so far, everything seems to work... and I'll deal with what I've lost... but thanks for trying... :-)

I had an update before closing my office last night (that is, using Vista). This morning when I turned on the computer, a black screen came with the appearance of the following text:
1142/1142 (Registry\Machine\COMPONENTS)
I couldn't do anything so, I turned off my computer. Now, the power will not come. If anyone has any suggestions (could power suddenly gone bad or the power suddenly button failed - just a coincidence, it happened at that moment?).
A big thank you to all those who wish to enlighten me on this matter.
