A bigger HD = fastest MBP?

So I bought the 13 "retina early 2015 MBP, 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage a few months back.  Looking back, it seems to have been a big mistake on my part.  I use some heavy Adobe programs and have now learned that 8 GB of RAM is OK, the laptop will probably also use the HD to run these programs and such a small HD, it is hard to leave enough (> 100 GB) space in order to let the assist HD effectively.  Currently, with all my no favorite apps removed, I have 80 GB free.

I knew that you could not increase the RAM and have now learned you cannot replace the SSD.

So, I find myself with the opportunity to sell my current MBP to a friend and buy a new one (although taking a small loss here).  16 GB of RAM while ideal, is out of my budget.  So before you make a purchase, I wanted to clarify if that makes sense.  Could get the same laptop, but with a 256 GB HD will help speed things up?  512 GB would be that much better?

All reviews are much appreciated!

Hi Gandonldn:

You can replace the SSD. There are a few PCIe SSD for MacBook Pro 2015.

Check out this link.

Or there is a 512 GB model: e http://store.mcetech.com/mm/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=mtos&Screen=PROD&Product_Cod = 512GBPCIESSD-L13M14

  • What is the fastest connection that I can use for a new external SSD for my MBP late 2008?

That IS the question. I want a new external SSD for my MBP late 2008.

What is the fastest connection type that works?

'External' and 'SSD' could be a problem.  SSDS are different animals of disks spinny.  Some will say that you need not trim on SSD (TRIM is a management tool to move only the ' opportunity' bytes in a block when the block of data is moved), but definitely TRIM does not work on USB or Firewire.  Not sure if the TRIM works on Thunderbolt connected readers as it does on disks SATA-path, however.

Speed included between slower and faster, however: USB 2.0, Firewire 400, Firewire 800, USB 3.0, love at first sight.

  • 189 45 Mbps Wireless and wired

I have a Huawei recently installed (Optical Network Terminal). When my ISP technician moved, he received 191 Mbps and upload 19.50 Mbps, it worked well for two days...

I have a Time Capsule 37 b for a Wi Fi network. And now 45Mbps wireless...   Wired 189Mbps. What's wrong with the settings?

    Thank you

3 TB does not define the model... so is this height with AC TC wireless?

You test speed on a computer with card WiFi AC near the TC? If you test remotely, it is likely that have traded to 2.4 ghz because the signal is best... It is a standard installation on TC... your Mac or your idevice will connect to any signal is strongest... not the fastest 5 GHz band...

To be able to 5 GHz force give the band a different name.

However we often find the TC has problems with connections fiber... especially if you use PPPOE for authentication.

What authentication method uses your installation?

The Huawei router as well or the installation of TC as a router?

  • Recommendation for external monitor for 2009 17 "MBP

    Hi all

I would like to get an external monitor for the time where a 17 "display is not quite big enough, but is there a limit on the size I can go? And with a 2009 MBP, would be a 4 k screen work?

The specifications of my MBP is: 17-inch, early 2009, processor Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz, memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce 9400 M 256 MB graphics card

I'm happy to find an opportunity that A1082 Apple display 23 ", but maybe I would go a little bigger. Used Apple screens are starting to become a bit expensive when there are more than 23 ", so I consider sacrificing the aesthetics of the product and get a monitor not Apple to about 27"... could anyone recommend any specific model?

I will mostly use the screen for the design work (InDesign) and surf, so that I don't do high range editing, I'd still like the colors to be accurate enough.

    Any help is appreciated!

  • WRT160N v3 - WiFi max 270 Mbps?

    Hi guys,.

I would ask someone to confirm if the fastest speed I can get over WiFi with WRT160N v3 is actually 270 Mbps (and not 300 Mbit/s as advertised), please.

And there is still one thing - it is normal to have signal:-51; Sound level:-93, SNR: quality of the Signal of the 43, 53% if I'm only 2 meters far from a router? TX power is set to 28.

    Thanks for the reply.

It is possible that you can get up to 300mbps but it will not hold this speed forever. They announce that he will arrive at this speed but there are up to thing to consider. Just make sure you use WPA2-Personal (AES) for security and you can always change the channel width wireless 20 MHZ only (instead of self), and you can use the 1,6,9,11 channels and see if that will increase the speed. Honestly, the speed you get is not bad. It's more than what most of us usually get with the N-connection.

    Hello

I recently heard that these latest Mbit/s do not allow users to upgrade RAM or SSD.

What is the latest model of MBP which will allow upgrades?

Would that be a model already abandoned?

  • MBP: monitor detected but no image except by VGA

I have a MBP of Mid 2012 running latest El Capitan.

When I connect to an external monitor, it is detected correctly in views (exact name, resolution, etc.), but the monitor doesn't detect any image from the portable computer. I tried the DVI - D and DisplayPort with various cables and monitors with the same result, but a picture appears if I connect to VGA. It started in the past week.

The built-in display does not work normally.

Looks like a hardware failure in the computer DisplayPort connector laptop, as the pins are worn or something?

    Any other ideas?

  • my iPhone messages are not related to my MBP

My MBP does not check the code to send and receive my iPhone SMS

    Hello rose_bud_2012,

I understand you are trying to use the continuity between your Mac and your iPhone so that you can send SMS and MMS messages from your computer, but aren't being asked to enter the code during the installation. Fortunately, we have a number of measures that can help to ensure that everything is as it should before the implementation, but also to ensure that everything goes as planned during the installation.

Use this feature with any Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that satisfies the requirements of continuity system. Make sure that your devices are configured as follows:

    • Each device is connected to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
    • On iPhone, go to settings > Messages > Send and receive. Make sure the Apple ID at the top of the screen is the same Apple ID you use for iMessage on other devices. Add a check to your address, phone number, so that you can be reached by both iMessage. Do the same on your iPad or iPod touch.
    • On iPhone, go to settings > Messages > transfer, text messages, then choose which devices to send and receive text messages from the iPhone. A verification code and then on each device. Enter this code on your iPhone.
    • On Mac, open Messages, and then choose message > Preferences. Click accounts, and then select your account from iMessage. Make sure the Apple ID shown here is the same Apple ID you use on other devices. Add a control to your phone number and email address.

  • end of 2011 MBP close

    Hi all

I have a 2011 end mbp, 10.9.5, which began to turn down when the power supply cord. I can put it to sleep and move it, then plug it back, so the closure is not immediate. my battery is the original one, but the sys info app says the condition is normal. I have reset the PRAM and MSC, it seems to work, but not for more than a minute or two.

question: even if the sys info app says battery is normal, can be wrong sometimes?

(either way, apple replaced 2 weeks ago the card logical under warranty I don't think it's connected, but may be.)

I'd be happy to buy a new battery (such as the technology more recent one) and see if that helps, but with the sys info app saying normal battery, I don't know if that would help. thoughts? pasted the battery below report (why o why paste from info sys app not working?):

I have a MBP of 2011 as well late, and I replaced the logic myself aboard there is not long.

And then I had to replace the battery as well... after a few questions.

I suggest to replace the battery, it MUST be fried at this point.

By fried I mean old, old way.

Genius Bar can do some specific tests, which will fail if the battery needs to be replaced.

  • MBP early 2011 camera does not

    Hello

I have tried everything mentioned in this thread, like:

    1. kill the process of VCDAssistant (I might have misspelled earlier)
    2. Reset the SMC
    3. Drain/battery AC only use
    4. Create a new user
    5. Perform a clean installation
    6. Use a third-party software

Nothing I've tried looking at the camera. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Take your MBP for a Genius Bar for some tests...

  • I need some advice on how to upgrade my MBP mid 2010 HDD to SDS without using clone software

Unfortunately, I had resisted the upgrade of the OS and kept my Snow Leopard running for a few weeks when the incompatibility of the various things became a nuisance I took the plunge and upgraded to OS El Capitan. That pretty much killed my hard drive. It kept failing good start and eventually when it did, no matter what function took forever to action. I took it to the Genius Bar and after a few tests it came with hard drive failure. In accordance with the notice given to me - I was told I should buy a Samsung EVO 850 and it would take me 10 minutes to install and simply use time machine to move my data.

I can happily work on people, but the machines seem to much more complex.

I decided to do a little reading and now am a little stuck and confused as clearly this is not so simple.

I have a SATA cable / USB. I think I know how to mount the SSD with the SATA connection format and then fresh install OS El Capitan.

The thing to note is that my MBP has been an erratic behavior of 2-3 years with gel and episodes of kernel errors and downtime. I thought previously, it had something to do with an external application - google chrome and got rid of this to use Opera instead. He made much less frequent mistakes but nevertheless still occurred.

For this reason, it does not seem logical to use clone apps (although much would have made life easier) and I need to somehow this the long way round... or so I think, but please correct me if wrong.

I have a Time Machine backup before I upgraded my OS, and before you try anything, I'll do another then its judgment the new OS.

    My questions are:

    1. after formatting my SSD, I should make a partition?

    2. is it acceptable for then simply drag a copy of the OS El Cap to the SSD and run hopefully leading to installation?

    3. What is the best way to migrate my data?

Note that I'm not a tech savvy person, have never done anything like this before and its taken me weeks to reach these conclusions to date.

With step by step instructions all tips are welcome.

    Thank you.

Create partitions first, then format each partition.

I think you need to create a USB flash drive install and then boot from the flash drive and go launched the installation process.

My MBP is showing a "Remote Disc" in the list of devices. It's not a hard drive. So where did it come from? I 'get info' on this subject, but it doesn't tell me a thing.  He sees the disk drives elsewhere in my house? It's to see my iPhone as a remote disc? The photo with him is a DVD or CD gold. It drives me crazy.  I am running OSX Sierra.
