{A} Dell XPS 15 L502x McAfee SecurityCenter activation problem

As shown in the topic I have XPS L502x. This morning, I restored my phone to factory settings due to some very strange behaviour of my machine. Restore was successful no problem at all. After that restoration was complete I connected my computer to the internet and at the same time the product activation window McAfee SecurityCenter pop up.

Now, the problem is that it was al most 02:33 hours, that McAfee still connect to MaCafee.com. Even now, while I write this problem he still connects.

Before this last test, I restarted my computer several times out of desperation that can be restart will fix it. But I think I'm out of luck. Something else that my internet is running @100 % navigation, streaming and downloading are very well at max speed.

Please someone help me in this case.

Any help will be appreciated.

Kind regards.

Hi abidshahzad,

I replied to your other thread 2 days ago, but you don't have to answer.

http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/virus-spyware/f/3522/t/19454708.aspx

What kind of "odd behaviour" has been exposing your system that made you decide to restore?

How long lasts your McAfee subscription, and when she did start?

Before restoring the factory settings, your McAfee product had been registered and activated with success?

If so, connect to your McAfee account on the link below using the email address and the password that you used initially when the first record.

https://home.McAfee.com/secure/protected/login.aspx?

Click the Subscription & Product tab, you see your subscription listed McAfee?

  • Problem Dell xps 15 L502x charger.

I have a dell XPS 15.  Before a few days I started getting an error message: charger is plugged in but does not support.  Anyone have any ideas what it is?  Thanks in advance.

I tried to re install quickset64, but he did not change this problem.

I ask you all to out get me of this problem.

I had the same problem and I bought two batteries and always the same, I thought to buy new charger but goanna is to be too much for this stupid laptop. its cost very expensive like MAC but that nothing according to MAC and I got a new TOSHIBA with the same specifications that my i7 Dell XPS 15 L502X stupid, with the price less than $375 and is much more than Dell which never recommended by me to any.

If Dell respect his client and it is a respectful organization, should be remembered this point in the market and replacement with a new or to pay less. In this way, it will keep its reputation in a top.

  • Dell XPS 15 L502X restore Windows 10 to 8 - is not the disks

A few months, I installed Windows 10 back on my XPS 15 L502X. It seemed OK, but a bit clunky. Now I'm sick of it. It is so much slower, freeze things upwards, the Start button does not work, it takes forever to connect, webcam does not always work etc, etc.

So, I want to return Windows 8.1. In fact, I grew to love this OS. Problem is that I don't have the installation diskettes. I tried to get some via Dell website but it came to a bit of a dead end and I'm not sure if they will be provided after the expiration of the warranty.

Also, I don't seem to have an activation code on the case - is a problem.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thank you

    Chris

You can get Windows 8.1 by following the instructions here:

    https://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=Is6I9B9kjFM&list=PL1RkaknDn7v9wEeh0YXFqOFsrmws-9fYn&index=1

    http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/download-Windows-8-1-retail-and-OEM-ISO/

But the performance woes are likely due to the fact that you have made an initial upgrade installation. They always perform significantly worse. A clean install of Windows 10 TH2 will work much better:

  • How can I find a copy of windows 7 for dell Xps 15 (L502X)

    Hello evryone...
I have a dell xps (l502X) lap top... it's operating system (Windows 7 Home peremium) resulted in a mistake... and there is now no thereon oparating system, and I have no backup dist to restore it... My question is: there were can I download my lap top operating system?
    Tanks

You misunderstood what George wrote.  Dells have a "factory restore Partition" and reinstalling Windows procedure that is described in the manual of your PC.  For example, here is an excerpt from the mine-

Reference Dell Factory Image Restore [excerpt from manual for Dell Inspiron 1545]
    1. turn on the computer.
2 when the Dell logo appears, press several times to access the Advanced Boot Options window.
Note: If you wait too long and the operating system logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Microsoft Windows desktop; then, shut down your computer and try again.
    3. Select repair your computer.  The System Recovery Options window appears.
    4. Select a keyboard layout and click Next.
    5. to access the recovery options, log in as a local user. To access the command prompt, type administrator in the user name field, and then click OK.
    6. click on Dell Factory Image Restore. The Dell Factory Image Restore welcome screen appears.
Note: Depending on your configuration, you may need to select Dell, then Dell Factory Image Restore factory tools.
    7. click on next. Data delete screen is displayed.
Note: If you do not wish to continue Factory Image Restore, click Cancel.
    8. check the box to confirm that you want to continue reformatting the hard drive and restoring the system software to the factory condition, then click Next.  The restore process begins and may take five or more minutes. A message appears when the operating system and the applications installed in the factory have been restored to the State of the plant.
    9. click Finish to restart the system.

You can find this information for your model on the Dell support website [through www.dell.com ] If you have thrown the manual of your PC and don't have any pdf copy of it.

The manual of your PC will also be instructions for creating a set of "Recovery disc" and do this after the factory restore.

In addition, the backup utility provided with Dells [mine is DataSafe Local, but that may have changed] has the ability to create a USB bootable from the "factory restore Partition" so that you can deal with a hard disk failure in the future.  So do because it is a valuable tool [an insurance against future problems] - they advised me to use a 16 GB USB key, but the image is only 6.2 GB so I could use a 8 GB USB key instead.

Palcouk is also correct.  All this which may or may not have been provided with your purchase, Dell will provide a floppy disk to install OEM of Windows 7 on demand - the load is small, I think [I think I saw a post about it being $30].

  • The upgrade of hardware Dell XPS 15 (L502X)

    Hello

I have a dell Inspiron 15R (l502x) bought 4.5 years back. I want to upgrade the laptop in any way possible. Here are my current features: i7 processor, 6 GB RAM, NVidia graphics card 525M, NIC Intel wireless N1030, 500GB HDD (improved to 1 TB).

What all can update this sheet? HARD drive is already updated, then I'll upgrade the network card, as my system does not support ca 802.11. I intend to improve with Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260.

What else can be changed? upgrade of the motherboard is needed to improve the system performance? Although the system handles everyday applications with occasional slowdown of the entire system. Yesterday, the idling system to a State where the audio was breaking.

Please let me know what all can be done.

Crucial to the States (and, if you purchase through its memory Configurator guaranteed) 16 G.

  • Dell XPS 15 (L502x) problems with mSATA, it is even compatible?

    Hey all,.

After you run out of warranty and immediately having HDD, I decided to install an mSATA SSD for faster boot times (with the possibility to keep a large spinning for storage disk). I bought a Liteon M3M 128 GB module and installed in the mini-pci-e slot in the compartment under the laptop.

After that installation there no change, nothing picked up in the bios, nothing through a live Linux OS, nothing in the installer of windows and nothing in Windows itself (when I gave up and replaced the drive rotating and re-installed).

I've updated to the latest version of the BIOS (A12) but this does not make any difference, I just googled and there is mention of a disabling Intel RST, but this option is not available for me in BIOS

Is there something that I have done is wrong, it is likely that the device is defective, do I need some kind of pilots of special controller for installation of windows 7 or is this model of Dell just simply not compatible with mSTATA?

    See you soon,.

    -Dan

    Hi Dan,.

XPS L502X supports the devices in the solid state (SSD) of 256 and 512 GB of capacity. However, I'm sorry to inform him that it does not support the mSATA disks. You can replace the hard drive with an SSD in order to improve the performance of the system.

Please let me know if you need further information.

  • Install Windows on Dell XPS 15 L502x 8

When I bought my laptop my older brother created separate partitions in my laptop.

Here's a screenshot of my disk management

    [IMG] http://i59.tinypic.com/21mvxja.jpg [line]

now I'm planing to install Windows 8 (new installation not upgrading to Windows 7), but I'm a bit confused as to what will happen on my Windows 7 recovery partition (image of factory restore)? It will be deleted and I'm no longer able to restore to Windows 7. If ever, I want to do in the future.

    Please explain.

    Concerning

Its not too much of it is just an additional/optional security feature and make the boots a bit faster.

However, this system will allow secure boot if BIOS is updated to the latest revision:

I have upgraded to windows 8, like 2 months ago. Everything worked perfectly. When I tried to connect my mobile phone via bluetooth, I found that it didn't work anymore! But I'm sure she was working before cause I paired devices as soon as the operating system has been upgraded.  It's my device manager says on my bluetooth

This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)
To find a driver for this device, click Update driver.
So I downloaded the driver from dell support and installed. Configurations do not continue. It is simply disappear without doing anything. So I ran the program under the authorization of the administration. Then this error prompted saying cannot access the registry code

    I have Intel wireless bluetooth

  • Dell xps 15 l502x with graphics gt540m planted constantly?

I continue to have this problem where my laptop hangs on the games themselves. There is no stuttering or twist audio and the screen does not black, the game freezes on the last thing I was looking at. I can alt + tab out of it and everything.

I'm currently using the stock drivers because I sent my laptop to the issue where the computer would crash and would loop the sound, so when I sent it they told me that the problem was because I was using the new drivers, so they are back to pilot actions. I'm almost certain that it is a driver problem, if yes is there a solution to this?

just to follow up, I got my motherboard replaced on my laptop now it works perfectly well :)

  • Warranty hard drive for Dell XPS L502X

Hi, I have a Dell XPS Laptop L502X. I want to know if the additional guarantee component level is provided in addition to the laptop of one year warranty. Best regards John

Only if the disc was purchased at retail, which is separate from the system.  If this is the disc that came with the system, the hard drive is guaranteed for the duration of the warranty of the system - no other warranty applies.

  • XPS 15 L502X notorious problems

My L502X, I have spent $2,000 on when it was new (what a huge mistake), warranty ran out last month.  As many people know, this laptop is known for video problem when equipped with an nVidia GT 540 m.  My laptop is no exception (and had its motherboard replaced twice, and it's only because I could go months without playing games, otherwise I had fixed it more often).  So today, I was on the phone to try to get the stupidly high repair costs reduced (my hard drive died too, so I finally had to get my laptop fixed, there has been yet another mother bad for months that I had been turned off of fixation), and two representatives from Dell I spoke said that there is a known problem with this laptop (claiming even check this forum then I was on the phone) and also said that if there is a problem, this Dell engineers remember the laptop and the problem (no, it's what THEY do, not what is actually happening).  I am a computer engineer and do not need to be told that I'm doing a problem; I wouldn't mind at this level for a made-up problem.  When asked for an e-mail address I could send some examples, I was told that Dell does not give e-mail addresses (what?  I used email and phone before).  Dell should have found and corrected this problem in test their product before releasing.  In fact I was offered a L521X at some point (which I didn't because they would give me a weaker system and this laptop is known for problems of limitation due to... surprise!)  heat problems), but I turned down, and I regret it now because I could have sold for more money and got rid of this money and the sucking time of the headache.

in any case, I'm supposed to talk to the support of higher than Dell's soon, because I can't get an email address, I'll post a large number of examples in one place here on the Dell forums both for my own benefits when I talk to Dell and I hope that as a useful resource to others with this problem.

First of all, the problem is caused by overheating of the GPU.  If you have a L502X with a GT 540 m and you game on it, it will happen to you eventually.  There are a number of things that people have tried that help contain the problem a bit and make it more manageable (sometimes eliminate), such as undervolting and underclocking the GPU.  This is done by a custom BIOS.  More information (and a lot of people talk about problems of crash of L502X) can be found here (you will see a few other mods as well as disassembly of the dust filter to increase the air flow, adding the heatsinks on voltage regulators, etc.):

    http://Forum.NotebookReview.com/Dell-XPS-Studio-XPS/635536-L502X-modded-BIOSes-download-GPU-voltages-more.html

Some examples of video of the problem:

Then, here are a few discussions of the forum with information on the subject:

    http://l502xcrash.blogspot.com/

I could find more, but you get the idea.

Finally, just to add insult to injury, since among the people that I talked to said that he could not find any info on this problem in the Dell Community, here's some info on the problem of the Dell Community:

http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/19426371/20022831.aspx (problem claims to be fixed, that is when you get a new motherboard... until this one is too toasted)

    http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/t/19446867.aspx

    http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19519526.aspx
I apologize if I have to come off as a bit rude, but I had to deal with 3 years of headaches of this system and have been refused the compromise I proposed (I asked a 14 Alienware and offered to pay 100% of the difference between the L521X who gave me and the system I wanted to) , and I was already told that I might be able to simply retrieve cash from my system.  That proved to be too much hope.  in any case, I hope that some people find it useful.

So guys, I got my egpu dock and I am currently using an old geforce 9500gt and it works very well so far. The only problem is that dell has in the white list of the wifi port that should be used with this dock, but I will explain everything with this post.

If you have received your dock, PSU, GPU and you want to plug it in, follow this guide:

-Boot up your laptop as usual without hang anything or remove anything.

-Download DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and run it (it would run in safe mode, to do); [this would remove the drivers and files of pilots gtx540m correctly, but take nothing to do with the graphics card intel].

-Restart your laptop twice (just a backup measure).

-Once you have restarted and in windows, put the laptop to sleep (Yes to sleep).

-While the laptop is in sleep, return, cancel coverage to bring up the ram and wifi module.

-Remove the wifi module (Yes, that's how do you bypass the whitelist of dell).

-Connect cable mpcie egpu to port wifi and screw him.

-Do not rewake immediately the laptop.

-Connect the rest of the components egpu; [the GPU to the wharf, mpcie at the wharf, to the docking station power cable (see the manual to do this and do NOT forget, not to FIX THE 4 PIN CONNECTOR in THE DOCK POWER CABLE I.E. TOGETHER WITH THE 20 PIN ATX CABLE, USE an OTHER 4 PINS, THIS WILL CAUSE A short circuit AND BURN YOUR PSU).]

-Once everything is connected up the laptop, the laptop screen lights up normally.

-Go to the Manager of devices and look under graphics cards, you should see some generic driver from microsoft with a yellow exclamation point, do a right click and update (you would need to have an ethernet cable is plugged).

-Once it ends updates (it takes 5 minutes to 20) it would restart, are not '!

-Put the laptop to sleep and the mpcie cable out and reseating the wifi module, wake the portable computer and then restart.

-Once the computer restarts, wait a few minutes so he could properly start and then go to Device Manager

-In the Device Manager, see the topic "Network adapters" and disable everything below (except for ' Intel Centrino Wireless-N '

-After, put the laptop to sleep.

-Once more, replace the wifi with cable mpcie module and then wake up the laptop.

-You will notice that nothing happens, that's normal.

-Go to the Manager, devices and look under graphics cards you could observe your GPU is there, but with a yellow exclamation point, you would see the error code is error 12, it's normal and good sign.

-While in the Device Manager, click on 'view' and 'connection device.

-Expand "Microsoft ACPI-based x 64 PC" and nested under that be "Microsoft ACPI-Complient system" would expand that as well; nested under it's "PCI Express Root Complex" expand who.

-You are looking for everything that concerns the old gt540m and turn it off, also find everything about bluetooth and turn off, but not wireless - n. [note, the stuff for the gt 540 m could be nested under its own thing, turn off this whole tree that nests the gt 540 m].

-Once this is done, close Device Manager, put the laptop in sleep mode then replace the cable mcpie with wifi module and restart.

-After restart, wait a few minutes and put it to sleep.

-Replace the wifi with cable mpcie module and wake the portable computer; do nothing at this point, wait a few seconds and your secondary monitor would start to display a screen.

-At this point you have set up your external GPU.

    Things to note:

To go between your GPU and your wifi module, you must put your laptop to turn it on and sleep (this is why everything about wireless-N was not disabled). You try to start the laptop with the GPU already attached would not work, everything would be empty, but again your laptop seems like he wants to do something. Error code 12 is related to lack of resources for the new component PCIe be ran.

If you are looking for a simpler way of this external GPU configuration, there is a software called Nando Setup 1.3 that simplifies installation without the need to disable anything and for sleep constant exchange of GPU with wifi module, you can also start with the GPU already set by using the software, but it costs US$ 25.

If you use a recent card after 2010 and nvidia, you can use the laptop instead of an external display screen; However, I advise to use one during the installation procedure. BUT, by using the internal form would reduce the performance of the GPU at about 30% less, is because the way mcpie is more saturated.

If you guys have questions, do not hesitate to ask, I will try my best to answer.
