  • Satellite A300-19 q - how to start with an external USB drive

    Hi all!

I have a (old) TOSHIBA Satellite A300-19 q bought in 2008. I wanted to do a clean install of Windows 7 by reformatting my HD. The problem is that my internal DVD drive no longer works. So I tried to boot from the Windows 7 DVD installation with an external USB drive.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to boot from USB devices in my BIOS options.
My BIOS is up to date (version 4.20) from Toshiba Web site.

So I was wondering, does anyone know if the A300-19 q can boot from USB devices?

    Thank you in advance.

I have A300 at home but I never tried to start with an external USB device.
Start your laptop and press F12 to get into the boot menu. There must be USB option. What happen when you try to use it?

  • Aspire S3 - will not start with the disc of recovery USB USB ports.

I try to use a USB drive to recovery W8 (made with the acer recovery management) in my S3-391.  The computer starts not with a USB key into one of the ports.  When turned on, the computer will display the "Acer" screen, then the screen goes black, then the "Acer" screen is displayed again, and then the screen goes black again.  It buckle like that until I hold down the power button for a hard cock.  Pressing F2 or delete only put the BIOS or something.  The computer starts well W8 and BIOS without anything connected to the USB ports.  I'm still under BIOS v. 2.07, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it, since I can't do the BIOS with USB in. Now ownership of the laptop gives me 992 MB, missing the 32 MB is for memory grafic.

Someone do now, how do I set this up in its maximum memory.
Total graphics memory will be 62 MB in sted of 32 MB.

    Thanks in advance.

    Smoky, Salvation

your laptop is an Intel Extreme graphics chip and an Intel 852GME chipset with 64 MB shared memory.

But the chipset has a feature called smart Memory Management (IMM) which manages the dynamics of shared memory. So only when the laptop computer needs more RAM for the game you have 64 MB available!

It is a power management feature to save battery power!

So don't worry about that, everything of fine!

  • Satellite Pro M40 sometimes starts with white screen

    Hello!

I'm pulling out my hair with this problem.

For no definable reason that according to me, my laptop will start with a blank screen.
Not all the time, but, seemlingly, whenever it feels like I need extra help stress on my plate.
For the most part, with perseverance (starting with or without battery, with or without the adapter, with or without pci with or without mouse usb network card and any combination of these elements), it ends by lights correctly, but sometimes Nothing that I won't get it to start and show me a screen.

My M40 is 4 months old.
Since it's purchase sent to Toshiba for repair twice for this problem, when I have exhausted myself trying to coax it into life. Whenever he was sent by saying either the problem has been fixed, or that he had no problem found/all systems ok / "it works very well for us, after testing all week."

This week [edit: it was Wednesday], I sent it to me, and Yes, I checked the trunk upwards and gave a sigh of relief that there is an image on the screen.
I wrote a letter to this topic a day or two later (that day he first gave me a screen white, but on closing down and restart, it was fine).
Today, however, not a week later, I have a white screen again.

I am reluctant to send for repair again, due to the stress involved and the time it takes and the technicians speaking it works for them.

If anyone can help, or was faced with a similar problem, please respond.

Oh, and the solution does not lie with the keys FN + F5, because I tried several times... unless there is a way to 'special' to build on them, I'm not in the running for!

[Edit]: several hours later, as a demonstration of her bored this problem is, my screen is once more working.

I went on once again, at the time and no joy. Then, after switching OFF, count to ten and the restart, eureka.

I'll update with news as it happens. If there are all the necessary specific details about "switching on the environment", just let me know.

  • Cannot start linux USB drive on the PC of Compaq CQ2903ES

    Hello

I am trying to install linux on a Compaq CQ2903ES desktop PC. I disabled startup secure on the bios, but the system does not boot from a linux live USB.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Paul,.

I can confirm that following your directions, and starting from a DVD, I could install linux on it. This isn't what I wanted at first, but it helps.

    Therefore, the solution is:

    1. Disable secure boot.
    2. Enable legacy start.
    3. Set boot order (DVD first in legacy trunk).
    4. Start the PC and enter the code + entry.
    5. Again, start with the inserted bootable DVD.

Thank you much for the help.

    Best regards.

  • EliteBook 820 G2: Start from USB - does not take into account my choice and starts hard disk anyway!

    Hi all!

I just got a new EliteBook 820 G2 and I'm trying to dual boot with Ubuntu. I have it on a USB hard drive that I used to install successfully on a couple other machines (dual-boot a Lenovo T430 and also on a desktop AMD new construction). I cannot go into the options to start with Esc or F9 and the disk appears, but there just ignores it and goes straight to Windows.

I don't have the partitioned external drive, then perhaps that he is not the right one? Seems funny that he would have worked on two other systems, but perhaps a quirk of the HP BIOS? I don't have a simple USB key with sufficient capacity to hold the installer, but do you think I should try to borrow one for that?

For any help or suggestions appreciated!

    See you soon,.

    Joe.

    Hi, Joe:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to go into the BIOS and see if there is a setting to auto USB for USB3 ports.

If it is set to USB3, you cannot start normally port USB3.

USB3 can be the default setting.

The auto adjustment allows the ports work as two USB3 ports when you run windows, and the USB3 drivers are loaded or USB2 ports when not in Windows (for example, when you need to boot from a USB flash drive).

  • Satellite A30 554: start and stop the question automatically

After about a year of use my computer laptop (Satellite A30 554) started having problems with the starter. Quite often when I turn it on cooler starts working and the LEDs are showing that the computer is on, but the screen remains black. Sometimes, I need to turn off the PC and on a couple of times so that he can start to begin. What is the reason for this and can it be resolved?

Once I had a problem with this computer off by itself while working, which was not caused by a virus. Some people advised me to vacuum clean :) under cooler. I did and it helped.

The problem was supposed to be linked to the dust on the heatsink, which does not allow that it works correctly. The current problem also connectable to the cooler, or is - it a motherboard problem?

    Hello

Generally speaking, if it starts and does even not initializing the monitor, or starts and turns off immediately, it could be the motherboard. It helps to remove each device at a time and try to start the computer. Sometimes when the parts become defective they still affect the ability to start. If, after removing all devices, that the problem persists, then your motherboard is faulty and must be replaced. Hope that fix you the problem.

  • Satellite A100 reboot with USB

I have a new laptop satellite A100. I installed 2 device (modem ADSL and Webcam).
I can't reboot my pc with the device, because I have a black screen. The hard drive does not work,
    and SO does not start.
SO, if I reboot reboot without device, start corretely.

Can you tell me why? and what I have to do?

    Thank you.

    Hello Pippo

I noticed the same thing. If the USB memory key is attached to the unit needs a lot of time to start. Once I wait about 20 minutes, but if I remove the key USB the unit will start immediately.

Believe me, that I tested it with four different Toshiba notebooks and everywhere that I got the same result. I put really know why this is happening but maybe you can try to use the USB hub with own power supply.

Satellite A100 is a fairly new unit and I don t think that there is a problem with the operating system. The fact is that all the USB ports don't external devices of t with the same power supply. Sometimes may happen this work one device on a port USB port but not if you are connecting to another.

As I said, you can try with USB hub.

  • MacBook Pro A1278 starts with black or white screen

Please help, my 13 "Macbook Pro, circa 2011 displays a white screen briefly and make sound boots, then goes to a white screen.  I tried to reset the PRAM a couple of times, no luck, reset SMC strikes did not help.

Can anyone offer additional troubleshooting steps?

    Thank you.

Please take each of these steps that you have not already tried it. Some of them are not applicable to your model or your situation. Stop when the problem is resolved.

To restart a computer is not responding, press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the unit turns off, then release, wait a few seconds and press again briefly.

    Step 1

The first step to respond to a startup failure is to secure data. If you want to keep the contents of the boot drive and you have not already at least a current backup, you should try to back up now, before we do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care the data changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.

There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to store backup data.

    a. starting the partition recovery or an hour Local Machine backup volume (button option key at startup). When the OS X Utilities appears, launch disk utility and follow the instructions in this support articleto the title of the "Instructions for the backup on an external hard drive via disk utility". The article refers to the start of a DVD, but the recovery mode procedure is the same. You don't need a DVD if you use OS X 10.7 or higher.

    (b) If step 1 fails due to disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to save some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external hard drive with OS X installed, the start of it. Otherwise, if you have access to the Internet, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external hard drive and install OS X on it. You will use the installation program of recovery, rather than download it from the App Store.

    c. If you have access to a Mac, and it work and have both the non-working Mac FireWire ports or stroke, start the Mac non-working in target disk mode. Work Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique will not work with USB, Ethernet, Wi - Fi or Bluetooth.

    d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is replaceable by the user, remove it and climb into a docking station that is pregnant or an external drive. Use another Mac to copy the data.

    Step 2

If you have booted from an external drive, make sure that the internal boot volume is selected in the pane of the system preferences Startup disk.

Start in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or an earlier version, or if a firmware password is defined, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can not do this. If you do not see the words "Safe Boot" in the start screen, you did not start in safe mode. Ask for additional instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to boot and run as normal, and some things don't work at all, including the networks without wire on some Macs.

The login screen is displayed even if you normally connect automatically. You must know the password for the connection to connect. If you have forgotten the password, you will have to reset it before you begin.

If the startup progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or the system stops automatically when the progress bar appears, the boot volume is corrupted and the player is probably defective. In this case, go to step 9. If you have another problem with the player, replace it immediately.

If you can start and log in in safe mode, empty the trash and then open the window of info on the boot volume ("Macintosh HD", unless you have given it a different name.) Make sure you have at least 9 GB of space available, as shown in the window. If you do not, copy as many files as necessary on another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion is not complete until you empty the trash again. This, until the space is more than 9 GB. Then restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

If the boot process hangs again, the problem is probably caused by third-party software you have installed. Ask for additional instructions.

    Step 3

If the startup process stops at a gray screen together with a mobile cursor, then the logon dialog box may be active but not visible because of a bug. You may be able to connect by using the arrow keys or the cursor to select the password field and type your password as usual.

    Step 4

Case of failure of step 3, the boot volume can be complete. If you saw previously implemented guard space drive is low, it is certainly the case. You might be able to start in safe mode , even if you cannot boot normally. Otherwise, boot from an external hard drive, or well technology for step 1b, 1 c or 1 d allows to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to the documentation from Apple, you need at least 9 GB of free space on the boot (as shown in the Infolog) for normal operation volume.

    Step 5

If a Mac desktop (without the built-in keyboard) crashes on a gray screen together with a mobile cursor, the keyboard may not be recognized. Hold down the button on the side of a wireless Apple keyboard to make it discoverable. If need be, replace or recharge the batteries. If you use a USB keyboard connected to a hub, connect it to a built-in port.

    Step 6

Sometimes, a startup failure can be solved by resetting the NVRAM.

    Step 7

If there is an integrated optical drive, a disk may be stuck in there. Follow these instructions to remove it.

    Step 8

Press and hold the power button until the unit turns off. Disconnect all devices wired except those needed to start and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use another keyboard and/or mouse, if these devices are wired. If you can start now, one of the devices that you disconnected, or a combination of both, the origin of the problem. Discover that it is a process of elimination.

    Step 9

Launch the utility disk in recovery mode (see step 1). Select the boot volume, and then run the repair disk. If problems are found, repeat until that clear. If disk utility reports that the volume is not repairable, the drive is defective and must be replaced. You can choose to tolerate such malfunction in the reader's life. In this case, delete the volume and restore it from a backup. If the same thing happens again, replace the drive immediately.

It is one of the rare situations where you must also run repair permissions, ignoring the erroneous warnings, that it can produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then restart as usual.

    Step 10

If the boot device is an aftermarket SSD, it may have an update and/or a forced "garbage collection". Instructions how to do this with a Crucial SSD of brand have been posted here. Some of these instructions may apply to other brands of SSDS, but you should check with the technical support of the provider.

    Step 11

Reinstall the OS. If the Mac has upgraded an earlier version of Mac OS X, you need the Apple ID and password used to upgrade.

    Step 12

Do as in step 11, but this time clear the disk utility boot volume before installing. The system should restart automatically in the installation wizard. Follow the prompts to transfer data from one Time Machine or another backup.

    Step 13

This step applies only to models that have a battery logic-board ("PRAM"): all of the Mac Pro, MacBook with a removable main battery and a few others (models not updated). A flat battery logic-board may cause a boot failure. In general the failure will be preceded by the loss of the system and boot disk clock settings. Refer to the user manual for replacement instructions. You may need to take the machine to a provider of services to have to replace the battery.

    Step 14

If you get this far, you probably deal a hardware failure. An appointment of 'Genius' to an Apple Store, or select another authorized service provider.

  • Raspberry PI connected with usb for laptop with Labview

    Hello

Please allow me to introduce myself: my name is Bob and I just graduated from the Bachelor of applied science (Physics), in the Netherlands. In education, I followed a course of programming in Labview. However, the course was not very well if I want to start from scratch. (my programming skills are very poor).

My goal is to learn the basics of programming in Labview. I want to measure the temperature with a probe for example and read this in Labview. I need a data acquisition for this system. I have a raspberry PI in my possession and I was wondering if I could use it to read the temperature from the USB port of my laptop using the PI raspberry. Is this possible? And I have to run some sort of program on the raspberry PI? Or I could better use another device (Arduino maybe?).

I hope someone could help me to help me get started with Labview. I'm looking forward to learn how to work with Labview and launch a few projects.

    Thanks in advance,

    Bob

Are you comfortable with writing code on the invoice, pro forma raspberry? This is where you write the code for the acquisition of data and code to send it on the usb as a RS232 serial port. The LabVIEW program would receive all this and it is a very simple program. There is a tool called Linx box that does all this for the arduino.
