Add vCenter Server 5.5 to vCO 5.1

Hi all

is maybe stupid question, possible to add vCenter server 5.5 to 5.1 vco.

I tried, but it threw me an error

Error: Cannot register or update the extension of vCenter Server - com.vmware.vim.vmomi.client.exception.SslException: com.vmware.vim.vmomi.core.exception.CertificateValidationException: server certificate chain not verified (I tried to Setup page)

If I tried to import the ssl certificate, it has been imported successfully, but are not not in the ssl Trust Manager.

Thank you.

Jan

Sorry, my mistake - I have not paid attention to the versions. Generally, is not a supported configuration, and you will need 5.5 plugin to connect to 5.5 VC. As the error is in the code that uses the inventory Service and it is recommended to not use it, you can try to install Version technical overview of VMware vCenter Orchestrator plug-in for VMware vSphere 5.1.x and disable IS vmo.properties.

  • Unable to connect to vCenter Server chargeback

    Hello!

We installed vmware chargeback of a virtual appliance, now we try to connect to a vCenter server.

SQL connection fails, we can connect using odbc or using sql server studio remotely connected using these creds.

But we get an error when connecting with the chargeback unit. I have attached the file.

Release notes, I see words about this message saying that if we get then the password is incorrect, but that's OK.

    How we thoubleshoot this question?

    Hello

It seems that you are using for the VCDB Windows authentication, which is not possible when you use Vitual machine. Please use "SQL server Authentication" and provide the database user name and password in the dialog box add vCenter server.

If you want to use Windows for VCDB authentication, you must use the windows version of the server of chargeback.

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any additional problems.

    Kind regards

  • Add vCenter fails with CertificateChainValidator - vCO 6.0.3

I had a running off vCO 5.5 self-service portal using a bunch of users.  I deployed a 6.0.3 vCO device VM and imported the config.  I finished the configuration, and all radio buttons are green on the site Configuration port 8283.  When you try to add vCenter using the workflow 'Add an instance of vCenter server', it does not immediately in the workflow "Import a certificate" with "ReferenceError: 'CertificateChainValidator' is not defined."  I have imported the SSL certificate of the vCenter and the PSC under Network-> SSL Trust Manager.   All certificates are self-signed because MRS. 6.0 would not work with CA Cert on vCenter has signed at the time where we deployed SRM.  I have not touched the CERT on vCO 6.0.3... trying to take the path of least resistance to maintain vCenter and SRM running and get the vCO online.  I checked vCenter MOB and there are no extensions of vCO.  How can I get vCO 6.0.3 is registered correctly with vCenter?  My vCenter is a VCSA and 6.0 build 2656761.

VMware support was able to understand this.  For some reason, not all the workflow was available even though I deployed a new 6.0.3 camera and imported the config of my old 5.5 instance.  So we went into the Web of Orchestrator Configuration page-> troubleshooting and click 'Reset the current Version' for plug-ins.  Bounced, she and the missing workflow was there.  Back then in the Web Configuration Orchestrator page-> vSphere Configuration under general and enter IP address of our vCenter PSC and [email protected] used.  The appearance of the data worked, I checked most of the boxes and could see vCenter in vCO thereafter.

  • Cannot add vCenter, error 'server not verified certificates chain '.

    Hello

After the upgrade to VCO 5.5.1 I can't add a vCenter which was previously registered reports the following error:

    Error

Impossible to register or upgrade to vCenter server extension

com.vmware.vim.vmomi.client.exception.SslException: com.vmware.vim.vmomi.core.exception.CertificateValidationException: not verified server certificate chain

I re-imported the cert of the Victoria Cross, but still no luck. I also license server failed and had to add manually. There is no restriction of firewall in place, so I don't know what else could happen. Any ideas appreciated. Thank you.

We've been through this process with all 6 of our vCenters. It turns out that it was the only one with a problem. I suspect it's because the old length of cert has 512 MB, while the others, who were an installation vCenter fresh and not upgrades, created a cert 2K.

Remove and then reinstall vCenter 5.5 only fixed the problem.

  • While add ESXi 6 existing hosts, vcenter server 5 std and esxi host 6 cann't add to AD

    Hello

    Greetings. !

We have seen vCloude 5 Enterprise edition and vCenter Server Standard 5.5

at the moment all my existing hosts ESXi 5.1 are managing through vCenter Server Standard 5, now recently we buy vCloude 6 Enterprise edition

    (1) I found the following problems all add ESXi 6 hosts (VMware ESXi - 6.0.0 - Update1-3380124- HPE) to AD sales thru of sphere, it is read error.

    error.jpg

I have already set up network, DNS, make sure firewall ports, Ping - are all OK.

    (2) Moreover, while trying to create new CD, add the cluster, then add hosts, is giving following error.

    error1.jpg

I can add new Hosts 06 ESXi Existing vCenter Server 5.5 Standard or I have to buy updated additional license for vcenter server 5 std vcenter 6 standard / enterprise.

    Thanks in advance.

ESXi 6 cannot be managed by vCenter 5.5 or earlier.

He needs a same version or higher of vCenter server.

  • Cannot add the ESX 6.0 host to vCenter Server 6.0

OK, I'm testing laboratory a vsan 6.0 cluster.

I have my running 6.0.0 esx hosts and vcenter server is 6.0.0 also.

I have the services platform on a virtual machine and vcenter on another. I was able to create a data center, then a cluster below.

Then I went to try to add a host to my group and I get this error...

Failed to contact the specified host (hostname\IP). The host may not be available on the network, may have a network configuration problem, or that the management on this host services may not respond.

Per this KB: KB VMware: Add a host VMware ESXi/ESX from VMware vCenter Server fails

I confirmed that my vcenter server and platform services server can see all esx hosts. From the vcenter server, it can ping the host esx and PuTTY can access all of them. I even installed the client and it can connect to all esx hosts. I used the netbios name, IP and FULL domain name and they all work.

I have only a single subnet, so this isn't a problem. DNS resolution works in all areas of both sides, vcenter esx hosts and host esx to vcenter.

    I am quite puzzled.

OK, after working with VMware on this issue, I think that I thought about it.

All my hosts are DL360 G6 servers.

My hosts are run the same build «VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-2494585-HP-600.9.2.38-Mar2015.iso» ESX Downloaded from HP.

All buildings are in trial mode.

After placing a call to VMware, they had me build some ESX VM, the services of the platform and the vcenter VM on an ESX host. We suspended because it took all day to go upward.

Once I woke up all the parts (sql server, esx vm, server platform & vcenter) in virtualization nested, I created my data center, then Cluster then added the ESX host.

The hosts added properly, no error. Then I remembered when I installed ESX inside a virtual machine, I am angry that the iso, I had the habit of HP does not work in my VM nested due to virtualized hardware.

Then a fire came into my head. We will rebuild all of the physical cluster but NOT use the CV provided the iso file but use VMware provided iso file "VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 6.0.0 - 2159203.x86_64.iso".

I did it today. I have rebuilt all hosts with the provided iso file VMware ESX...

Spun SQL Server vCenter, service platform, all VM VM VM you need. My AD & DNS VM are on another server, so he has been upwards all the time.

Connected to the web interface (yuck!).

    Created my data center...

    Created my Cluster...

    Add all my Cluster hosts.

    All of this worked!

Therefore, if you encounter the same problem, I'm plan to generate your with the provided iso file VMware ESX hosts and try it. In my case, the provided HP iso file didn't work properly for me.

I also downloaded the iso file of HP 2 other times to make sure and do a validation test and it did the same thing.

  • New Vcenter server and host add

Hello, we are planning to create a new server Vcenter.  Had a bunch of weird issues with Vcenter.  Vcenter 5.1 on Windows running.  have not decided if we will use the VCenter, or create a new virtual machine from Windows to Vcenter again but I don't think that will count for my question.

My plan is to turn off HA and DRS on the old server Vcenter, then remove a host from the old server Vcenter, and then add this host on the new Vcenter server.  Then just repeat the process for each host.

My question is, should I turn off any virtual machine running on the hosts before removing the old server vcenter?

If I remember correctly you have not, the virtual machine must remain in place and running, no connectivity should be lost and users should not not the difference.  We plan to do this off-peak hours, but there are always a couple of vm that are used 24/7.  It would be therefore rather not have to stop first.

    Thank you

    Hi defrogger

Yes, it's the right way to migrate a new vCenter ESX Server.

Disable HA/DRS and then disconnect the ESXi, vCenter server and plug them into the new vCenter.

By disabling the DRS, you will lose the Resource Pools. So its maybe you assign only manual DRS.

Another thing that many people forget are the options of the virtual machine on the cluster options. they have been set up again on the new cluster.

BTW. There is a guide of vmware:

    Hi all

I am facing strange problem in my lab environment. I created two esx1 (192.168.111.130) ESX servers and esx2 (192.168.111.131) on VMware workstation that runs on Windows 7.

I am able to connect to these esxi two servers with help of the Visual c# client.

Now, I installed device as VM on esx1 VCenter. IP of Vcenter server appliance is 192.168.111.128

Now, after being part of the server of the device configuration, when I connect to the device via c# client server. I am able to add esx1 but not esx2 host.

ESX2 isn't to pings from the server to the device.

ESX1 and esx2 are who answered the other.

server appliance, and ESX1 esx2 are pings from my window machine on which I have installed VMware Workstation to set up this environment.

I rebooted twice esx2 and change the IP address as well of 192.168.111.131 to 192.168.111.132, but no luck

Any help to the above question is very appreciated.

  • The upgrade to vCenter Server 5.5 U1 beat vCO AD Plugin

    Hey guys,.

I've recently updated vCenter Server (under Windows) to 5.5 U1, and so vCO has been upgraded to the latest version as well. It seems that the AD plugin has been upgraded to 1.0.4 - 763 and now can not be configured correctly. The vCO newspapers give the following:

2014-05-12 12:11:14.141 - 0400 [WorkflowExecutorPool-thread-1] ERROR {[email protected]: Configure Active Directory server: 8a6abc61-9f1e-4b75-84e3-5f7ed902af57:1d74889645f12cdf0145f133c1e20009} [MSPluginFactory] condition of credentials are corrupted.

Furthermore, when I try to set up an advertising server by using the plug-in, I have the following problem, showing me one of the configuration objects is null - 'ConfigurationManager '.

2014-05-12 12:11:14.251 - 0400 [WorkflowExecutorPool-thread-1] WARN {[email protected]: Configure Active Directory server: 8a6abc61-9f1e-4b75-84e3-5f7ed902af57:1d74889645f12cdf0145f133c1e20009} Script Runtime error [WorkflowItemTaskRunner] on the workflow: Server Configure Active Directory / 'Configuration' (item1) update: ReferenceError: 'ConfigurationManager' is not defined. (Workflow: Configure the Active Directory Server / update of Configuration (item1) #10)-null

We do not use LDAPS, LDAP standard, so I don't see why we would receive an exception of encryption, and the 'ConfigurationManager' null configuration object is interesting.

Is it possible to reset the configuration of the plugin, re-establish a connection, and try again? I prefer not to reinstall this vCO, as we have done a lot of configuration.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the 1.0.4 plugin does not seem to solve the problem. I should come back 1.0.3 or can it?

    Thanks for all your help.

Thank you, Christophe, who complained of being 'ConfigurationManager' being missing (according to the first message in this thread). That said...

    Rename/Delete the

    C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Orchestrator\app-server\conf\plugins\AD.xml and

    C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Orchestrator\app-server\server\vmo\conf\plugins\AD.xml

and re - configure the plugin (1.0.3 in this case) AD, seems to have allowed the AD connection is restored. At that time, we were see errors in the vCO related to plugin configuration of the client (it seems that all the old cruft of 1.0.4 has not been completely cleaned), so I upgraded the plugin from 1.0.3 to 1.0.4.

I can now browse through the structure of the AD in vCO as expected. A terrifying upgrade, plugin-breaking!

  • Cannot add ESXi host to vCenter Server

    Hello

I created a home set up a VMware datacenter for study purposes. I currently have 2 virtual machines: an ESXi host with vCenter Server Appliance deployed on this subject.

I configured the server vCenter through web interface device and I have connected using vSphere Client.

I created a data center, but when I try to add a host, I get "ERROR: the request exceeded."
Connection with vSphere client directly to the ESXi host works.

I can connect using SSH to the ESXi host.

I have disabled the firewall on the ESXi host.

I have read many articles on the kbase but nothing helped me to solve this problem.

    You have any ideas?

    I finally got to understand.

It seems like my vmware workstation is not connected to the esxi as a physical host in my local network host, and so I was able to ping it unit of vCenter Server (but it worked the other way around, and that's why I thought it was ok).

After the connection to the physical LAN of VMware workstation settings, everything worked fine.

  • Cannot add host to vCenter server as data store is shared with an existing host to vCenter

Recently, I removed a physical host to a virtual appliance of vCenter Server and am not able to add it to vCenter Server because I get an error message on the existing data store.  I run a simple server vCenter environment with two physical hosts and shared storage.  I've only been administering vCenter for a few months, so I'm relatively new on the technology and processes.  I searched the Internet for a few days now, but have not found documentation everyone has the same problem I have (which I find strange considering the simplicity my problem and configuration), so I tried to get help from the community of VMware.

I received an error message a day this vCenter Server cannot connect to either of the two hosts so I removed the host (rather than disconnect and plug as I should have done).  Now, I am not able to connect to the host to vCenter server because the shared storage data store comes into conflict with the same data store used by the host in vCenter Server.  I get the error message is ' "Datastore"datastore_name"is in conflict with a store of data that exists in the data center which has the same URL (ds: / / / vmfs/volumes/UUID /), but is supported by different physical storage." "  I try to remove the host data store, but get the following error message: "resource" data store name: datastore_name VMFS uuid: UUID' is in use. ".  The error stack said: "'HostStorageSystem.UnmountVmfsVolume' call failed for object 'storage system' on ESXi"IP address"."  Cannot unmount volume ' data store name: datastore_name VMFS uuid: 'UUID' because the file system is busy. Correct the problem and retry the operation. "I tried to delete all virtual machines of the inventory, put the hosts in maintenance mode, restart physical hosts, but none of my troubleshooting contributes.

I don't know what steps to take to get this data store driving with the host so that I can add it in vCenter Server.  You can provide me with any help is appreciated.

Good thing you already moved the VMs on.  For what is 'disconnect', 'remove' or 'delete' might work anyway.  You should maybe put the host in maintenance mode or even reboot the host before you can remove data warehouses.  In an extreme case, I even had to remove the host and the hypervisor installed completely rebuild on the spot.  It is not that difficult or does not take long to reinstall, so be not afraid on this subject.  A clean reinstall could still save time compared to the deletion of data warehouses.

  • Add a 5.1 ESXI host to vcenter server 5.0

    Hi all

I just installed an esxi5.1 host and tried to add in vcenter server 5.0 without success.

    The error is:

A general error occurred: Timed waits vpxa to start

Is it possible to do? If not, is documented somewhere? I searched a lot and found nothing relevant.

The installation was made using an iso file, the new facility, in a shared, storage warehouse that has been formatted.

I don't want vcenter server 5.1 as the impact of my infrastructure is high.

    Thanks for the help!

VMware product interoperability matrix got the update and you would need 5.1 vCenter to manage 5.1 ESXi hosts
