Aggregation of links and VLAN Trunking

I configured 2 switches with aggregates of connection between them.  Access ports are part of VLAN 10, but no longer communicate through the NEWLY created GAL.  LAG only pass a single VLAN or is there something that I am missing in the LAG config?

After creating the LAG you must then configure the LAG entering the port-channel interface and put to general/Trunk mode. Updated general/trunk mode allows multiple VLANs on the connection.

Example:

Console (config) # interface port-channel 1

mode console # switchport general

Console # switchport General allowed vlan add 2,3,4,5 tag

I am looking for information on how to build an aggregation of links between my powerconnect and three cards broadcom on my server. I want to create a bandwidth of 3 GB.

I created a team with suite ABEC 3.

    My network have 2 VLANS.

At this stage, I could ping my server network, and I can ping the server in my network.

When I defined the three ports of the switch (where three cards are connect) as LASG and I defined in belonging to a VLAN these three ports whose status is F, I ping the server from the network, but I can't ping the server network.

Could someone tell me how I could build this bandwidth betwween my powerconnect, and poweredge?

  • MPIO and aggregation of links

    Hi all

I was wondering if someone could explain the differences between the two briefy, I know that MPIO resides on the layer IP and LAG is at the level of the Mac layer. But I'll put up our Equalogic PS4000XV iSCSI SAN with two hosts ESXi 4 U1. I use VMWares Round Robin MPIO, with the strategy of several VMKernel ports dedicated to multiple NETWORK cards.

My main question is that I still have to do the aggregation of links? Y at - it an advantage? And if it is how can I go to do it because I have 6 100 ports VLAN dedicated to iSCSI, 4 ports traffic go to the SAN and 2 ports light up to two network cards on the ESX host, when I LAG all the SAN becomes inaccessible. Any thoughts?

To add, VLAN is not recommended for iSCSI traffic, it is better to use a dedicated switch (preferably a pair of switches).  When a pair is used, there should be a group of ports in the LAG between them (min of 2 Gbps) or stacked.  The configuration of the switch must also be very specific with the PS4000 - flow control enabled on all ports and port deep buffers.

Download SanHQ from Equallogic.com if you do not already done, this will give an idea of prices of retransmission for your tests under load (with IOMeter for example) - and loads of other cool stuff.  Make sure you have the latest firmware on the PS, including the L1 patch and be aware of vmware PR484220 to do with the MPIO.

Please give points for any helpful answer.

  • VLAN Trunking between 6248 and 2848

    Hello

I have a Powerconnect 6248 switch connected to a 2848 and I try to get a VLAN on the 2848.

VLAN working and properly receive DHCP addresses, traffic lanes and DNS runs on the 6248.

The Protocol DHCP, DNS server is connected to port 1 on the 6248.

When I create a Trunk port on 3 the 6248 Port, allow all VLANS through it, creating a trunk on port 1 of the 2848 on VLAN10 and try to plug in devices inside, they can see all other devices connected to the L3 switch.

The two switches are running the latest firmware and the L3 on his own works as expected. I can't get any kind of circuits working at L2, tried with normal cable and crossover switch.

Here is the config of the L3 6248. Switch 2848 L2 has a blank canvas with 10 VLANS created on ports 1,2,3,4 with port 1 as the trunk port installation.

Any ideas pleeease? Anyone? It drives me crazy.

After turning off spanning tree on the 2848, all works now.

    VLAN, trunking everything.

    Thanks for the help! :)

I hope that if someone else can use what it took me ages to develop. I plugged on Netgear switches etc and they seem to work.

The issue was going on between the dell 6248 and 2848, Spanning tree is enabled on the default 2848. If I was going to the Netgear via the 6248, then at the 2848 switches worked.

My config on the l3 also works very well if someone would use :)

  • Subinterfaces and VLAN

    Hi all

I was hired on with a State... Now its been awhile, but I do not remember how subinterfaces and VLAN all link together!

Now correct me where I'm wrong (please), but them VLAN is created on the correct first switches?  When you create a VLAN on a switch you don't need ip or gateway address by default because them VLANS are the switch.  If you want intervlan routing you need a router.  Then, you configure a port trunking between the switch and router (ISL, 802. 1 q).  Now in the router, you can create a VLAN, and here you inter the ip subnet or the default gateway addresses correct?  This is where I get confused as to what reasons do you need subinterfaces?  How they roped VLAN and what would be the logical flow of data?

    Anyhelp would be appreciated!

Yes you are right. If you are using the layer 2 switch and want to make the intervlan Routing then you need Layer 3 router device. But you must configure the interfaces sub with the default gateway to route traffic. Because there is a single trunk between swich and router so we need sup interfaces for multiple VLANs.

    Interface FastEthernet0/0.1

    Encapsulation dot1q 10 (10 represent 10 ID VLAN)

    10.1.1.1 IP address 255.255.255.0

If you use a layer 3 switch, then you point all sub interfaces need so then you can create the interface vlan with the default gateway. You must enable ip Routing.

    Interface vlan 10

    10.1.1.1 IP address 255.255.255.0

    Hope this will help.

Please rate if this can help.

  • LACP SG200 - 08 double speed ethernet when two aggregation of links Mac it

Hi guys, I use a mac mini and imac with 2 Thunderbolt ethernet adapter to make the aggregation of links on a SG200-08.

To copy the files of drivers from the mac mini raid0 stroke, the speed of the network can reach 225 MB/S, but the actual speed of the disk drive is only 107 MB/S

I mean that the two ports in each mac carry only the same data over time. Can he do a given separate two and carry on two ports?

I can find use VLAN or else combine two IPs for one?

Don't know how yo SG200-08 GUI web definition (this is my first time using the smart switch)

Hi Yang, your computer supports a load such as link aggregation/LACP 802.3ad balance method? You can effectively double the data rates without a nic-team aggregation technology or link any.

  • Start a Discussion on vSphere / VLAN Trunking in ESXi

This is my first post to this community of VMware, so please bear with me if I'm missing something simple. I went to a discussion to ask this question under vSphere, but for some reason that I'm not able. I chose to follow the community of vSphere, but for some reason it is grey when I try to choose to start a discussion. Thoughts and guidance?

The real question, I would like to ask on vSphere is how to configure trunking VLAN on a single host (no vCenter) using the vswitch standard. I find a lot of links like this one http://www.rustyhann.com/ESXi-06-Create-vLAN.pdf that describe the process of setting up a trunk on the switch port, then assign a VLAN ID to the ports on the ESXi host groups. When I change the switch to a trunk port, I lose conductivity to the host, so I can manage it is no longer. In addition, on the host, I see no VLAN ID and I don't see any configuration which leads me to believe that the switch is inform the host (thru VLAN Trunking Protocol or any other means) which have the VLAN. I might be able to answer this question for my part, I can bypass the first issue. Thoughts and guidance?

    Thank you. Best.

  • Does Windows natively support the aggregation of links?

There are some descriptions on the aggregation of links in Wikipedia.

    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Link_aggregation

"Note that Microsoft Windows does support not natively the aggregation of links (at least until Windows Server 2008)."

I was wondering if this description is accurate? And what about the new windows operating system, such as Windows Server 2012 edition?

Windows xp, Windows 7 and Windows 8 natively supports the aggregation of links? If the answer if not, anyone know why? I know, Linux and other operating systems support the aggregation of links.

    Hi, Peacegump,

For NIC teaming or link aggregation support, you will need to contact your provider network adapter or an OEM (for example, Dell offers a driver of consolidation).  They provide you with a driver that allows the grouping of NETWORK adapters, because Windows does not offer this feature in the core of the operating system.

  • PowerConnect 5548 and VLAN

    Good afternoon!

I'm looking to implement a 5548 in our existing infrastructure. I want to preface this by saying that I am very new to networking.

I'm looking to have at least two VLANS separated.

-The first vlan for public sites face. These will have static public IP addresses.

-The second VLAN is iSCSI traffic. I would like that it won't face public.

Is it possible to Setup or should I be looking for a different solution.

If possible, how should I go about setting up?

    Thank you!

The port that connects to your router should be placed in Trunk mode with the VLAN you want in the trunk port. All ports are in VLAN1 access mode by default, this means that the port that plugs into your routing device is in access mode for VLAN 1 and VLAN 1 has internet access. For traffic VLAN 2 to access routing equipment that you will need to change cela port in Trunk mode and adds 2 VLAN as a VLAN Tag.

  • SGE2010 stacking compared to the aggregation of links

Can anyone provide an answer regarding stack switch SGE2010 against the aggregation of links if more than 1 GB connectivity is required between the individual switches? Currently, having multiple switches in a stack configuration but would like to increase the bandwidth between some or all switches. Does support cumulation a link aggregation configuration? If so the ports can be used and how the aggregation of links must be configured in conjunction with stacking?

    Hi Jacqueline,.

    On the SGE2010 - Default stacking ports: 24/GBIC 3, 48/GBIC 4 stacking support, i.e. the two ports.

If you want a GAP between SGE2010, my suggestion, and others may disagree, would be to stop the default stacking mode and standalone mode.

Then create a GAP between the SGE2010 switches.

  • Cisco SLM224G VLAN Trunk Help! -> Problem solved!

Hi, I have a few difficulties of implementation of the switch, I can't understand how to configure the network for VLANs created port. I have configured under management of VLANS, VLAN 10 and 20, I asigned ports e1, e2, e3, e4, e5, e6 with 10 PVID and e7, e8, e9, e10, e11, e12 with 20 PVID and the rest to defaul 1 PVID, frame SD = All + infiltration on filtering. Under port to VLAN-> VLAN10-> ports e1, e2, e3, e4, e5, e6 Tagged + e24 tag (I want this to be the trunk) and the tag VLAN20-> e7, e8, e9, e10, e11, e12 Tagged + e24. Theats all that I set up according to the SLM_Admin_Guide.pdf and I have connected the e24 (trunk port) to a Pf meaning Server (the server is configured with the same VLAN ID as on the switch), please someone tell me how to set up the trunk? I know that there is no option in the Port settings to define 'Access' or 'Trunk'... until this means? that the SLM224G does not support the VLAN Trunk? I saw some screenshots with the Linksys SLM224G and he had 'Access' or 'Trunk' setting... and Cisco does NOT work.  Help!

    Hello

Interesting, I see two different GUIs in your screen capture, it looks like two different computers. :-)

    But the big brother of the SLM, the series SRW and I am about what follows to the SRW series, because I do not have a SLM in front of me, I had put;

Step 1. the port settings interface return, leaving the PVID to 1 then do scroll down and save the option.

Step 2.  On this "ports setting photo GUI, you have, I would put the switch ports to shared resources in mode Trunk. If the port must not be tagged in the VLAN 1 only, then I leave the setting the port mode 'access '.

(Access mode allows a port belong only to one VLAN no marked only).

(shared mode allows the switch port belong to several VLANs marked, but still unmarked in one vlan only usually the vlan by default)

Step 3.  So I goto the "Vlan to the port' tab, Tagged for ports beloning to vlan 10 then do scroll down and save the option."

step 4   So I goto the "Vlan to the port' tab, Tagged for ports beloning to vlan 20 then do scroll down and save the option."

By default vlan1 in most SRW series brother would then be not identified on all ports and vlan10 and vlan 20 could be labelled on the appropriate ports.

  • aggregation of links in the ucs servers

Hello. Is it possible to aggregate links in the UCS Manager to get the speed of single link over 10 Gbit/s on each server? How can I do? I can build link interface on linux, which is installed on the server. But what do I do in the UCS Manager?

Correct, the aggregation of links (port-channel) can be configured between the FI and the IOM if you have second generation FI/IOM and configure the port-channel to the title of the material > material > policies > policies > policy of chassis discovery.

So pretty much, make you the aggregation of links at the OS level and then proceed to UCS as described above but it will provide a port channel for the entire path (IOM at the END)

  • With the help of VLANS and VLAN Tagging is not working / no connection

    Hello

I m trying to configure a VLAN between some virtual machines on ESX host 3.

I want to do this way:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1004074

I got 1 dedicated NETWORK adapter to each ESX host that is connected to a dvSwitch in which I configured a portgroup

with VLAN ID 2121. I have configured each virtual machine to use this network.

When I put the virtual machines on a single host, they are able to communicate.

When they are placed on different hosts they are (if the VIRTUAL LAN is enabled on portgroup) not able to communicate.

So I m assuming it must be a problem in the config NIC on the ESX host or switch.

I m using a HP2910AL on which I activated mode trunk for each port that is connected to a NETWORK card with

the dvSwitch/Portgroup I try to use for the vlan. In the hp switch, I have a default VLAN with ID 1 where

the Ports are marked not signposted. I install a second VLAN on the switch with ID 2121 in which I scored

    This tag ports.

Is there something else to do - perhaps side ESX host?

I tried changing the settings as "forged transmission-> allow ' on portgroup and I found other things

in the web, but always without success.

    Kind regards

Were you referred to this guide? :

    http://CDN.ProCurve.com/training/manuals/2910-ATG-Feb09-2-VLAN.PDF

"show vlan ports" would be my next check to make sure that you have connected to your ESXi host 3 ports in the vlan 2121.

As Duncan has said if you have a VLAN ID on the portgroup in the vSwitch and you have the port on the pSwitch as trunk not acess and VLAN ID is allowed on the trunk port pSwitch you should be ok.  Just to clarify the trunk is 802. 1 q No 802.3ad.

The reverse is not VLAN ID on the portgroup vSwitch, use coelio on pSwitch with VLAN ID.  Limited pSwitch port to a VLAN, this may be ok for you?

  • Director of the laboratory - routing and VLAN

    Hey,.

So we are currently setting up Lab Manager in our environment, the environment in which we are setting up is a replica of our production environment. In the LABORATORY, we use 13 VIRTUAL networks.

I use Vyatta to route between the VLANS right now, but we are running into a problem now, 13 VLAN... 3 more that it has configurable s NIC on a virtual machine.

Aside from trying to convince everyone that we don't need of 13 VIRTUAL networks in a lab environment, are there other possible solutions or have you guys seen or been around something like this configuration before?

(I've been throwing around the idea of setting up two VM running Vyatta and creation of a separate network who share the two interfaces on one VLAN from the 14th and then distribute the network load between two virtual machines but it's even more work that manually configure an instance of Vyatta in LM whenever someone wants a new workspace to test.)

    What do you think guys?

I would say that you need to trim more work for yourself in the long term.   If you want a "real" picture of your lab and prod, you can see either plan b of your presentation above and buy physical passes capable of vlan trunking. Not much, we can hope for until Vmware gets beyond the limit of 10 - nic that seems more promising with all support for 10gbe cards now.  Some department stores I've seen can pull off a true mirror of their production environment as they can in their laboratory.  With virtualization, it makes it much easier to achieve.  I hope one day, we can be their one day ;-).
