Alienware 17 R3 - external monitor (HDMI) - Netflix

Hi all

I'm having a problem with the Windows 10 Netflix app (and the problem also occurs when you try to use Netflix via Microsoft Edge) in which case the video will not display on my second monitor. I use an ASUS monitor connected via the HDMI port.

You can hear the audio, but you can't see the video, unless you drag the app to the laptop screen. It of like if she displayed using the integrated Intel graphics card, but will not video with this app for the NVidia card. You can even change the application configuration to use the NVidia card in the NVidia Control Panel. It is locked to the integrated graphics chip.

If you run Netflix through Google Chrome, it works very well and you can see the video perfectly on the screen.

I contacted Netflix with no response, so I'm hoping to get some sort of answer from Dell and I hope this can be resolved with some kind of hotfix or, potentially, an update of the BIOS if necessary. I don't think I'm the only one with this problem, I don't see anywhere that it has been reported.

If anyone has had this problem (be it with Netflix or another application) please let me know if you managed to solve the problem, and if not, could someone from Dell please help with this as not being able to watch Netflix through the Windows 10 app is extremely frustrating. It is the only way to watch movies in 1080 p. 1080 p is not supported in Google Chrome via the site Web of Netflix.

Let me know if you need additional information.

Kind regards.

I would like to add that I have also exactly the same problem with the Alienware 17 R3 using the HDMI output to an external monitor.  In fact, I'm surprised it's not more widely reported.

It seems that Netflix links itself to one of the graphics cards only.  So, if Netflix feeds to integrate graphics then that's all it can produce its video to.  And, as you pointed out, Netflix is locked to the graphics chip built into the Nvidia Control Panel.

I could force a little to work by disabling the Intel HD Graphics graphics card in Device Manager - essentially forcing Netflix through the Nvidia card.  This enabled the video to display on the TV, but he doesn't really act too well when made this way (the task bar won't go away to start!)

I was trying to see if there was a way to have instead of the HDMI output through the onboard graphics in place, but no could not see such an option to achieve this-looks like the HDMI going directly into the Nvidia card and bypasses the overall, integrated graphics card, unless I'm missing something?

It's really a pretty annoying problem because it is indeed the only way to get the 1080 p content.  And for me, that's the only way for me to get content with a surround sound (via my headphone surround sound) to my 1080 p TV.  So for now, my options are either use the Netflix app on my TV to get 1080 p video with stereo audio, or use my laptop to get 720 p video with audio 5.1.  Sigh...

  • External monitor only up to 720 p using HDMI

I recently bought a Samsung curved (S27D590C; 1080 p). My setup is a MacBook Pro 13 "(mid-2012), connected to the screen using an adapter 3-in-1 (mini DisplayPort to VGA, DVI and HDMI). When I use the VGA, I can get up to 1080 p. For some reason, I can only 720 p when you use the HDMI cable.

The HDMI cable is probably good as I am able to get a 1080 p using a Windows laptop without adapters.

Additional information: by using the same configuration (MacBook + 3-in-1 adapter + HDMI cable), I am able to connect to another TV which has a native resolution of about 720 p.

Finally, connecting with the HDMI, my MacBook is able to detect the monitor but the monitor does is display a blank screen.

I would really appreciate everyones help, because this is my first purchase of external monitor. Thank you.

    Hi Danne18,

Looks like you can't get good resolution on a monitor, and you get just nothing to display on another using your MacBook Pro. I would use the following article to help you get that resolved. There's a lot in there and some of it is basic, but it should lead you to getting this problem:

  • Can satellite A100-806 - I add HDMI to external monitor?

    Hello.

I have this laptop a few years now and works well. I would like to put another screen on my laptop so I would have 2. The laptop and the new. The problem is, that I hooked up with a screen with a resolution 22 1900 - 1080, and the large screen is not as I wanted to be. He had great big windows. He told me that the big monitor could not catch the max resolution.

Any ideas on what I should do?

My A100-906 of what I know has a VGA input. I am able to add HDMI on it?

    Thanks in advance, panagiotis.

    Hi lualua.

    > He had great big windows
I think that s because you don t use the native screen resolution of the external monitor. If the monitor supports 1080 p screen resolution you must set it to external monitor. Then, do a right-click on the desktop and choose screen resolution. Select the second monitor and set the screen resolution of 1920 x 1080.

    > My A100-906 of what I know has a VGA input. I am able to add HDMI on it?
It s no entry of port, your computer's VGA port is * exit *. In addition there is no HDMI adapter to VGA must use the VGA port of your laptop to external monitor.

  • Satellite L505-10V - using HDMI is no pic on external monitor

I have a Toshiba Satellite with a broken screen and use an external HDMI monitor.
But now it starts but does not fall into the second rotor and shows do not at all.

    What can be?

It is not easy to say why this is happening. Restart laptop and try to use the FN key combination to switch to the external monitor.

How it worked in the past? You have it active manually or desktop was shown on external monitor automatically?

  • MacBook pro at 1920px external monitor via hdmi?

I just got MacBook pro 13-inch retina and the default resolution is 1280px in width, and the maximum value is 1600px.

If I connect the laptop to an external monitor via HMDI 1920px resolution, the resolution will actually be 1920, max mobile as 1600?

You can set the external display to the monitor native resolution or HDMI resolution according to your preference.

Don't use mirror display on external monitor because when you mirror on the screen display resolution is also in reverse. Use extended display mode.

  • Satellite L650 - HDMI connection for external monitor

I've linked the laptop to my Sony LCD TV via HDMI, no problem. I have a (Acer, 24-inch) LCD monitor that has a HDMI port also. I used it to play ps3 and xbox360 via HDMI connection, no problem. I have two lines HDMI 1.3. The two lines are working without any problems.

However, when I connect my laptop to my LCD Acer just external LCD monitor can t work properly. I can barely see what is display on the monitor, very snowy. It's hard to describe. I took a photo but don't know where to download it here.

I tried both HDMI lines, but both failed. I tried to change a few settings in the laptop, but nothing makes any difference. I'm looking for the driver for video card on the Web from Toshiba website and found that my current license is updated.

I'm not a tech geek, but I think that I don't know something on the computer. Am I missing something here?

Guys (and girls), please throw in an idea (tooth tell me to check if the connection is good, I don't already).

    Hey,.

If you connect your laptop to external monitor and press the FN + F5 key combination what happens exactly? Pressing the FN + F5 key combination shows different options and you should test with external monitor only (not the clone image). If you work on external monitor doesn't do this work?

In addition, you must connect the devices before starting their.

Also, take a look in the BIOS and try to load the default settings. Make sure that that the HDMI cable is connected before starting Windows and check the status again.

By the way: what operating system are you using exactly?

  • Max Resolution for external monitor via HDMI on Lenovo Y700?

    Hello

I hope that someone has experience with external monitors on a computer laptop y700.

I would like to ask if my laptop Y700 supports resolutions higher than 1920 x 1080 for external displays via HDMI.

    My model is:

    https://www.Amazon.de/Lenovo-i5-6300HQ-quad-core-Prozessor-Betriebssystem/DP/B016QB9HZK/ref=sr_1_2?i...

    I want to use a monitor with a resolution of: 2560 x 1080

    https://www.Amazon.de/DP/B00TF0X37I/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&ColId=31RP1ZDSM66ZA&colii...

Is this possible with my laptop. And it is even possible to connect a 4K screen?

Thanks in advance for your help.

So finally, I tried to connect my laptop to a 2560 x 1080 widescreen-resolution-display via HDMI in an electronics store:

THIS MARKET! It is not a problem to run it with 2560 x 1080 at 60 Hz. The only problem might be a 4K resolution screen that it only works with 30 Hz, because it's an HDMI 1.4 port.

  • external monitor X120e HDMI 1920 x 1200?

    Hello

I have a 24 "1920 x 1200 external monitor, and I want to buy model x120e, for use with this monitor. It will work on the native resolution?

I read this E-350 processor, supports HDMI v1.3, which supports up to 1920 x 1200, but ot from other sites I've read advice support only up to 1920 x 1080? What maximum resuluton supports the x120e on HDMI output.

    Thank you.

Yes it will work at this resolution. It is actually 2048 x 1152, but this resolution is not commonly used, so most of the references would state 1920 x 1200 or 1920 x 1080.

  • Erratic recognition of monitor HDMI in AO756 for external display on a monitor Acer X233H

I have a laptop 756-2887 Aspire One that I'm trying to connect to an external monitor with a monitor Acer X233H using HDMI.  Sometimes it connects without effort and I am able to set up a beautiful double external screen to the laptop using the external analog and HDMI display.

But sometimes the HDMI display goes on a cycle where it recognized and then down and then is recognized again and it happens over and over again.  In this cycle, a never displays on the monitor.

I tried to turn on/off things and I can't recognize a pattern that allows to connect me with reliability the HDMI monitor.  The monitor works fine with my desktop and I can plug HDMI with DVI connection show desktop.  The monitor detects a HDMI connection and gives me the computer screen, unless it goes into the cycle of decline.

Using the Fn keys to change display options did not help either.  Connect an external analog never present the same problem.

    Here is what happened.

I remembered that during the first time that I managed to successfully install the external HDMI monitor was when I got another second monitor installed as the external VGA monitor.  My hope was therefore a plan of double external monitor to my laptop and I was very impressed that this was possible.

So I tried to go back to the other external VGA monitor an old HP f70 and it worked!  I was able to correctly connect the HDMI monitor and the f70 to the laptop.  The VGA monitor who did cooperate with the HDMI is Samsung SyncMaster 931 b.  I had also used this Samsung to connect to a DVI port on a desktop computer, and he had therefore two connected cables, DVI and a VGA of the notebook.  I tried to unplug the DVI cable and connecting the VGA and HDMI monitor to the laptop and it worked.  The HDMI monitor display.

I went to Samsung and got the drivers for this monitor and I find that after installing the drivers, you have the option to install a digital display or analog monitor.  As I was going to just to use the VGA connection, I chose analog.  After you have installed the driver for the Samsung, I was able to plug both the cable DVI and VGA cable on the Samsung and still be able to display on the monitor HDMI.

The solution was to install the drivers for the analog port of the Samsung monitor.  Who would have done it.  I guess I should have suspected the two cables coming from the Samsung monitor could have done things.

JackE, thanks for keeping me with your encouraging messages.
