All files and icons of the Office deleted on an hourly time.

Hello team,

I am facing a very strange problem with windows xp service pack 3.
Every Saturday evening, some of the icons and all desktop files are removed so that all files are intact. It had happened twice with me.

These files/icons are also gone from 'C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop '.

I tried to restore the system to an earlier date, but who also did not help.

I tried to search for files and folders missing but unable to find these files.

Any help / pointers would be really appreciated.

Thanking you
Vishnu Kumar

Hi VishnuKumar7,

System Restore does not restore the data on the computer. It restores only the settings and programs on the computer.

· Program or application specific files are deleted?

· Have you planned the disk cleanup?

· You have a security software on the computer?

Run the verification and virus scan online if any malware or virus detected on the computer activity. You can run the scan for viruses online from the link below: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm

To start my computer opens with letters replaced by symbols.  I ran antivirus, antimalware, etc. and finally went to the restoration of the system, and allows a point of restoring a couple of days before returning to the letters.  A few days later, the same problem occurred.  No, the system restore has no previous restore points available dates and I'm stuck. HI AskDrL (and this also applies to the DrLHP - but you should follow the advice of the PA bear and not post back here if it does not help you - unless I suspect you two are really the same person with two usernames).

Try a clean boot (Vista and W7) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135. If the problem goes away then it's just a matter of tracking down the culprit at the origin of the problem. Follow the procedures described in the article. Once found, remove, delete, disable or uninstall. Once don't forget to reset your system back to the normal state, as described in the procedures. If the problem occurs in clean mode then just restore the system to normal and reboot - this solution will not work. If you are using XP, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316434.

Try starting mode safe mode with networking to see if the problem is here.  If this isn't the case, we have little room to work.

Check the display properties to make sure that fonts and styles are correct:

    In XP, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/140752/en-us.

    In Vista, see http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/78281-advanced-appearance.html

    In Windows 7, see [2] http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/282-window-color-appearance-change.html?filter = appearance

Check the locale and language to ensure that they do not appear in something weird and are set to standard English with normal fonts.

Check Device Manager to see if there are problems with the video or monitor.  Whether (or not), go to the manufacturer of the computer or a web page of the manufacturer of the device and get the latest driver, firmware or software for the video card and monitor that are appropriate for your devices and your operating system.  To update all that is available and there is place and then reboot and see if that helps.

If this does not work, I recommend repost you in the Windows Forum where experts in this will be more than happy to help you: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/desktop?page=1&tab=all&tm=1300700638376 but first, to the top, where it says Windows Version, use the dropmenu to select your, then you will find yourself in the appropriate forum for your system.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

P.S. If you are the same person, then you should uninstall it and use on McAfee removal tool as having AVG installed at the same time and it can cause disorders and problems - I doubt that what we see here, but it still needs to be done.  After normal uninstallation of McAfee, use the removal tool to get rid of leftovers: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507.  I don't know if this will solve the problem, but this should be done in any case that is likely to cause other problems on the road later.

Deleted file recovery can recover incomplete files, i.e. the part of these files may be missing.  Recover deleted files is much more reliable if recovery of a backup, instead of using recovery software.

These things depend on the operating system and the file system.

One thing, you can see: open one of these files damaged with a text editor, and then make sure that the constant % PDF is somewhere in the first 1024 bytes.

  • Remove the lock on all files and folders...?

There has been a lot of questions on how to remove locks on folders and files on Windows 7. Those I've read on this site worked and the lock can be removed easily.

... However, you cannot do a folder/file at once. I have a lot of items on my desk, and more than half of them have these locks on them. How I removed the locks on all files and folders on my user account. There are only 2 accounts on the computer. Mine and another person. Mine is set to the administrator account, the other is just a standard user. I started by ignoring the locks for months, then I tried to get rid of them by myself, and frankly, I have no idea what I'm doing. Please, I beg you. If you know of a way, share it!

If the locks would not constitute an obstacle to operations, why bother?

And BTW, it; s no need AT ALL to run as an administrator on a daily basis in Windows 7. Forget everything THAT you have learned about XP - Win 7 is much more advanced.

You realize that the built-in Administyrator account is disabled by default, and if it is possible for him, that may be beyond what you're comfortable with?

Create another Admin account, call the Admin or Tech or similar and give it a password. Let this accouynt for the elevation of access and privilege of emergency and activate your account for daily use in a Standard user account. Your computer will be safer that way.

  • How can I MOVE buttons on taskbar to a new location without having to close all programs and resume in the order I want?

I like to keep the buttons in my taskbar has organized with the browser and messaging on the left, followed by Windows Explorer and other items. If they get out of order or programs are loaded into a different order, how can I MOVE the buttons to a new location without having to close all programs and resume in the order I want? In addition, sometimes, one of program buttons seems in itself to migrate out of place and I need to get back to where it should be: same problem.

    Hi shohareZohre

Thank you for using the Microsoft Answers Forums!

The task bar is the horizontal bar at the bottom of your screen time. In contrast to the office, which can get obscured by the windows on top of it, the taskbar are visible nearly all the time. It includes four main sections:

    ·         The Start button, which opens the start menu.

    ·         The Quick Launch bar, which allows you to start programs with a single click.

    ·         The middle section, which shows you what programs and documents you have open and allows you to quickly switch between them.

    ·         The notification area, which includes a clock and icons (small pictures) that communicate the status of certain programs and computer settings.

Add or remove programs on the Quick Launch toolbar

The Quick Launch toolbar is located on the task bar and is a convenient way to open programs. You can add or remove program icons in the Quick Launch toolbar so that you have easy access to the programs that you use frequently.

To add a program icon to the Quick Launch toolbar

Click the icon for the program to add (you can find most icons of programs on the start menu or the desktop) and then drag it to the Quick Launch toolbar.

Note: If you don't see the toolbar tools quick launch, right-click on an empty area of the taskbar, click Toolbars, and then click quick launch.

To remove a program to the Quick Launch toolbar icon

Right-click on the icon of the program and then click Remove.

Notes: ·         Delete an icon from the taskbar does not remove its corresponding computer program.

    ·         If you want to stop showing a toolbar on the taskbar, right-click an empty area of the taskbar, point to toolbars, and then click the item that you want to stop broadcasting.

NOTE: The ability to move the programs in the taskbar is not possible in windows Vista but the same functionality is available in Windows 7. Please see the link below.

  • Windows XP can't see shared files and folders on the system Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I have a wireless home network. When I got Windows 7 Home premium 32-bit on my desk - my XP laptop was able to share files and folders.

Today, I upgraded my computer to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Now - my Windows 7 Desktop can access files on my XP laptop - BUT - I was no longer able to access to any shared files and folders on the Windows 7 desktop. I checked that matches the name of working group. And on the XP - when I go to the Add Assistant preferred network and make a Browse. When I select Microsoft Windows network and task force - I see my office listed. But when I try to select - the OK button remains grayed out.

  • screen resolution of the remote desktop: fonts and icons of the remote desktop window are so small they can barely read.

    Remote Desktop screen resolution

I've recently upgraded to a Windows 7 laptop from a computer in Office XP.

On my old machine, I use a VPN clent and Remote Desktop connection to use my work computer (my company uses XP on their machines).  If I try to connect from my computer Windows 7, fonts and icons of the remote desktop window are so small they can barely read.  Change display options in the settings of remote desktop doesn't affect the size of the window, not the resolution.

It is a problem because I am stuck using my old system to work remotely.

    Any ideas?

All you have to do is to reduce the resolution of the screen that you use to connect to your Remote Desktop Session.  More the higher resolution and the characters will be on your screen, and when you connect to Remote Desktop.  In my case, I lowered the resolution of my screen to the House for the resolution of the screen in my office.  It works perfectly.  To reduce the resolution follow these steps:

    1. click on start

    2. click on Control Panel

    3. under appearance & personalization - click on adjust screen resolution.  You may get a message indicating that your resolution is not at the optimum, but don't worry you will still be able to see the letters on your screen.

    Hello Manu,

Thanks for the guidelines to help me solve my problem. Just to tell you that no, I have no error messages when I tried to access the office programs and Yes, I made a few changes in the pc... in the registry with Glary Utilities. That was my main concern.

However, I tried the AUDITOR of FILE SYSTEM (CFS) and it fixed some problems.

I also watched method 2 and did a performance using MICROSOFT FIX patch and ran that the Microsoft SECURITY SCANNER both have not reported any problems.

Also tried method 1, no problem in safe MODE. I didn't think it was a third party program... so I decided to do a restore to an earlier date... then the problem seems to have disappeared.
