An XP of imaging system

I started quite recently using VMServer.  I would like a machine XP (actually just the player) of the image and install it in VMServer.  Is there a tool I can use for the image of this machine and install it in VMServer?

Thank you.

Daryl Rose

Hello

Weird, I see now that the XP VM I looked into the WAMI was material virtual version 4 and it seems to actually use default busLogic because there was no mention of free

virtualHW.version = "4"
scsi0.present = "TRUE"
scsi0.sharedBus = "none"
scsi0:0.present = "TRUE"
scsi0:0.fileName = "WinXP.vmdk"

OK, I played in the web interface a bit:

scsi0.virtualDev = "lsilogic"

is for free and the code changes in:

scsi0.virtualDev = "buslogic"

for buslogic.

    Okay, so after much headache, I was able to restore the Boot Camp from a virtual hard disk image... however... what OSX sees the contents of the drive BOOTCAMP and what BOOTCAMP sees self are completely different.

    According to OSX, here is the content:

    In my view, that is a problem OSX, as I need to reset the memory of the BOOTCAMP volume or something.

    I disassembled that re-mounted disk, reset the NVRAM/PRAM memory disabilities Tuxera NTFS... but it shows again that content.

    Any ideas on how to solve this problem? While I could leave it alone since the OSX and Windows and start properly, I would create an image of WinClone of Boot Camp, and in this situation, it would probably be to create a picture of the wrong thing, then I would like to than OSX to see the disc properly. The determining factor here is I would like to take advantage of the free upgrade to Windows 10, but I want to be able to roll back to where I was in the worst case scenario.

    On the side of OS X, you disassemble and reassemble the Bootcamp partition? Tuxera can complicate and lead to corruption.

    As you might gather reply TrekDozer, restoring an image to different hardware is not a trivial task.  However, outside legal issues, software Acronis True Image (what creates disk images) can be supplemented by a feature that Acronis called "Universal Restore."

    You must run wbadmin from an elevated command prompt. (To open a command prompt, click Start, right click Guest and then click Run as administrator.

  • suggestions for an imaging system

    I've been procrastinating to do this upgrade in weeks, but my current installation of Vista is a little weird, with the views change randomly each almost whenever I have something opened in Windows Explorer. It becomes really upset me, so I just want to win7 as soon as POSSIBLE. I want something that will allow me to customize the way files are display AND STAY THAT WAY as Windows 95, 98 and XP. Even the panels of control, trash, and other such things change their format to display randomly. For the most part, they like to go to "icons medium or view one or two columns always the name, but the other varies." It is a separate issue.

    I was advised to the system of the image, but I don't own any imaging software. The only one I've worked with is Norton Ghost, and even if I had a copy, I couldn't use it. I don't have a drive external 3.5 "USB.

    I see an external USB drive of 500 GB on sale at Best Buy for $50, so I'm gong extinguish and purchse it. How can I use this drive to make an image of my current Vista Home Premium install with only the following available? I need a suggestion on what software to use, and how would I do a restore.

    Computer to be photographed:
    Gateway 4200DX, 64-bit quad core 2.4 ghz processor, 6 GB of RAM
    House Windows Pista 64-bit problems.
    580 GB main partition to be photographed
    a "recovery partition" brings her up to 650 GB
    1 DVD - RW drive, more USB ports. I don't remember if it has Firewire or not because I have all of these devices.
    Gigabit Ethernet, but I have no other gigabit devices including my switch, so it's actually the only Fast Ethernet.

    Other computers:
    Acer Inspiron laptop, exact number I forgot.
    1.7 ghz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM
    Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista 32-bit Home Premium can be reactivated easily enough as I never took the trouble to delete the partition.
    2 USB 2.0 ports for external hard disk
    Less than 60 gb internal hard drive.
    Fast Ethernet connection (I think, could be gigabit after all. Is not serious because unless you are using a crossover cable, I just have a fast Ethernet switch)
    slow CD - RW drive, I'm not sure speed accurate it is, but it often seems somewhere between 20 and 40. Definitely not better than a 40 X.

    Dell Optiplex GX110

    Windows 98SE/Windows XP dual boot.
    1 hard disk 40 GB, 60 GB 1 hard drive is divided into a 20 GB and a 40 GB partition. Less than 10GB available on any partition.
    USB 1.1 ports. (It is old and used Win98 for a decade).
    XP complains that my flash drives could be faster if I connect them to a "high-speed USB" so I guess they are 1,1. They seem certainly to a transfer rate.
    * The machine to work only with a 3.5 "floppy drive. I can't move it to the new machine, because they have no floppy ports.
    CD-RW/DVD-R maximum drive write speed never burns with success, but maximum reading speed of 48 x works very well. Effective max 16 X or 24 X burning speed.

    So, I need something that I can use the material to the system image and still be able to restore it if I accidentally erase my data or find that I can't get the drivers to work. Any suggestions?
    Something with a low learning curve for someone who used to regularly use Ghost to his old job in 2007 would be appreciated.

    I use DriveImage years. I've never needed to restore an image, but occasionally the individual file was always available for recovery, when something is wrong. And it's free...

  • Unable to create point of system restore, System Image & System Repair Disk

    Hello

    I'm on HP Pavilion dv6 notebook, Windows 7 Edition home premium, (Intel core i7, [email protected] Ghz) CPU, RAM (4.00 GB).

    2 days back, I installed kaspersky IPSec 2016.

    today when I started my system again to check again the question that I was surprised to see that I could access my Microsoft & other applications.

    As a preventive measure, now I want to do system restore, disk image point & system repair disk but unfortunately, I am not able to do this.

    Here are the problems I face to create above.

    1 system restore point - specified error as ' restore point could not be created for the following reason: a volume shadow copy service component has encountered an unexpected error. " Check the event log applications for more information (0 x 80042302)

    2. System Image disc - error indicated as "Windows cannot find device backup on this computer. A volume shadow copy service component has encountered an unexpected error. Check the event log applications for more information (0 x 80042302)

  • Image system problem

    First of all, my internal HD is an SSD that is almost 4 years - so I decided to make an Image of the system in case he dies, but Windows tells me that I can't because the volume is formatted in FAT32.

    When I looked at the drive in disk management, of course it is said that the 0 partition is FAT32, 1 partition is NTFS.

    #1 question - how come? Why my Windows CE installation disc, do if it would break the System Image tool?

    Question #2---est - it safe to reformat a partition system?

    It will erase the data or will it simply change FAT32 to NTFS.

    Question #3---si I decided to reinstall using my Windows 7 disc, how to ensure that this never happens again?

    It has been 4 years, but I'm sure that Windows doesn't have to ask me if I wanted to divide the disk to FAT32/NTFS.

    Thank you

    -What happened? Why my Windows CE installation disc, do if it would break the System Image tool?

    -> Windows has no facility to convert NTFS to FAT32. This happened at the time of installation or it was the result of a third-party tool. I suspect that the partition was formatted in FAT32 already when you started the installation.

    Is it safe to reformat a partition system?

    It will erase the data or will it simply change FAT32 to NTFS.

    ->, It depends on what you mean with 'safe '...

    A results of partition in a total loss of all data on formatting. However, you need not format the C: drive. Just run this command in the Console:

    convert C:/FS: NTFS

    I would always save all user data on an external drive, then do some checks on another machine to ensure that backup data can be read.

    If I decided to reinstall using my Windows 7 disc, how could make sure that this never happens again?

    -> That target the installation process format the partition.

    Do not assign a drive letter to the partition recovery/player. Open "Disk Management" and decommissioning (without drive letter) and backup and restore performance.

  • Imaging system with a 8 GB flashdrive

    I have a HP Mini laptop 210-4000 with MS Windows 7 Starter. Can I create system image with a 8 GB capacity flash drive? pls help.

    [I assume you mean to make a system image using Windows backup.  If you mean you want to do a recovery USB using procedures of HP & HP utility, then you will be guided by the advice of HP.  Certainly a 8 GB USB is large enough for the factory restore USB equivalent on a Dell computer, but I don't know anything about the PC HP]

    Using Windows Explorer, right-click on your C:\ drive & select Properties.  The space used on the disk shows approximately the minimum size of the disk that is needed for a Windows system image made using Windows backup.  There are some imaging applications that can half the amount of space needed for an image, but you would have mentioned the name if you use one of them [like Acronis TI].

    For Windows 7 Home Premium x 64, the system drive is about 30 GB * so I doubt that Windows 7 Starter is so much smaller that a 8 GB drive would be appropriate.

    * my system drive contains Windows 7 & its applications but no user file.
