  I have these three questions of program after reinstallation of Windows Vista and tried (mostly unsuccessful) using Windows Easy Transfer to move and reinstall my programs and files. My computer had some problems before start, (it would be almost always gives me the blue screen at startup and go into Startup Repair). The Startup Repair wouldn't fix anything and just lose about 20 minutes of my time. Finally, he wouldn't even load at all and the Startup Repair did not help so I decided to reinstall Windows Vista.   It was not catastrophic but especially a gene. I use VLC player to manage most of my videos very well, but love using WMP before.

  Second: I can't create restore points at all. Once I try, I get this error message:
  "The restore point could not be created for the following reason:
  An error was detected in the copy Service VSS (Volume Shadow). The problem occurred while trying to connect with the VSS writers. Please check the event system service and the VSS service are running and look for errors related to event logs. (Ox80042318) Please try again. »

  Finally, for some reason any after the transfer, eventually after Internet Explorer automatically updated it will completely freeze when I open it. This is for me the prompt to open the session previously was crushed, and if I try that or close the dialog to open just the home page, it will freeze completely, even the blue circle next to the name of the tab to load.
  Fortunately, I have Firefox and Google Chrome installed, both work very well.

  Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm not entirely fretting on IE8 and WMP 11 but I feel really that less stressed if I know that I have a System Restore Point in case my previous numbers start to happen again.

  Other things you can try after trying the suggestions "Sreenkanth T" is to run the ChkDsk program.

  Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors.   My problem was the unresolved question (that means third-party programs are not the problem?) so I was wondering how I can fix the problem. For me specifically is not a file of 4 gb, but the files just randomly with mkv in them. I havn't exactly tested to see if it has to deal with the size of the file or not, but I can tell when I open 2 GB files, they work fine. I say this because I can open a file with a mkv which is a little more than 2 GB and explorer.exe not crushed. Here is the info I get from event viewer.

  In this thread the poster informed origin as "haali splitter" caused the problem. Looks like some programs non-Microsoft is the origin of the problem. We recommend that you check if a non-Microsoft program is the cause on your computer.

  To do this, try the following steps:
  a. open the article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
  b. Article, follow "step 1: perform a clean boot" the implementation of these measures will disable all programs not Microsoft currently running on the computer.
  c. restart the computer and check if the problem persists.
  d. If the problem does not persist in the boot, it means that some programs non-Microsoft is the source of the problem.
  e. to find the program that is causing the problem, try "step 2: enable half the services" to "step 6: resolve the problem.

• Can not enter wildcard (*) in the file selection dialog box when opening a file

  It's something I've not seen before. I posted this question in the forum Autodesk AutoCad LT five days ago, but I got no answer at all. Because I'm not sure whether it is a Windows or a problem with Autocad, I thought I'll try to post here, too.

  On one of our AutoCad workstations, when you open a drawing, we cannot enter a wildcard character (*) in the file selection dialog box to help unravel the drawings.

  In other words, say there are 10 versions of a drawing with the number 5008. I should be able to enter the 5008 * and just see these ten designs. On this computer, when I try to type an asterisk (*), I get this error message: invalid character. The following characters are not allowed in file names: \ /: *? "<>

  Now, I know that they are not allowed... but I don't mean to create a file name. I'm just trying to classify them. On our other RTE Autocad workstations, the wildcard character works fine.  What's up with this one? Y at - it a setting or a variable that controls this?

• Explore records automatically when opened

  I don't know what happened, but until an hour ago, when I would click on a file and it opens with two components. would explore the left pane and the right would show the contents of the selected folder. I went through all the options of folders and related things in the control panel and cannot find a solution. I checked for similar threads b4 posting and couldn't find any help. I know I can right click and select Explorer but it is irritating to me. any suggestions?

  I have a problem with my installation of Fusion 2.0.6 on my iMac to Snow Leopard related to a "file not found".  I did my best to analyze the positions of the community to see if anyone has experienced this before.  I found several posts and tried the suggestions in these posts, but I have not been able to solve.

  I'm trying to restore from a full backup of my XP VM. It's not a backup Time Machine; just a straight backup of VM together using SuperDuper (part of my nightly backup routine).  To restore, I copied:

  -> BACKUP/users/John/Documents/Virtual Machines/Windows XP Home Edition.vmwarevm

  for -> MacHD/users/John/Documents/Virtual Machines/Windows XP Home Edition.vmwarevm

  Merge, I opened the Windows XP Home Edition VM, only to get the error:

  «File not found: Windows XP Home Edition-000005 - s001.vmdk.» This file is required to power on this virtual machine.  If this file has been moved, please provide its new location. »

  I find the file hard (what is there) and get the same error message several times.

  Interestingly, when I try to open the same VM from the backup location, I also get the same error.

  Really stuck now and don't know what to do.  Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

  It seems that the latest files are missing. The virtual disk which I guess has a size 5-6 GB provisioned consists of 3 files, of which 2 are missing for snapshot 000005 (Windows XP Home Edition-000005 - s002.vmdk and Windows XP Home Edition-000005 - s003.vmdk). Unless you have some backup, your options are limited and you will need to go back to the last instant whis is dated March 2012.

  Windows XP Home Edition - 000005.vmdk descriptor file (text file) will show the files that make up the virtual disk (the Flash disk in this case).

  When we try to open the file from the network drive with illustrator CS6, it says "this file is not found.

  -We try to copy the file to the network drive on our office and can open the file without problem

  -If we double-click directly on the file from the network drive to start the CS6 illustrator with this file. He has also very good, no problem at all.

  - But if we first open the illustrator CS6 and try opening... and then again browse to this file on the network, then "this file is not found.

  -CS6 Illustrator have no problem opening the file in the local hard disk.

  -Illustrator CC have never this problem, open the file in the drive of our network, try to reinstall the trial of Illustrator CC again and it may open without a problem

  -J' I try to use Adobe CC Cleaner tool to remove everything before you reinstall Illustrator CS6, still no luck.

  -Try to remove the Adobe relate user/user/Appdata folder, and then reinstall, still no luck

  -Try a right click and open with-> Illustrator CS6, Yes if we double-click the file directly, it's ok, but as said if we open illustrator first, then search for the file, the problem happens.

  Hi, I just could solve this problem, a path of the folder in our network is contains a character of Thai language.
  When rename us all English characters, it is able to repair!

  Maybe it's a bug since Illustrator CC is quite open this file, but in any case if it works at least I don't have to guess anymore.

• Solution to improve performance (to increase speed) when opening PDF files with large 3d model?

  I insert a large .u3d model of construction in PDF file (more), very slow when opening it (more than 30 minutes). Is it possible to improve it during the creation of the PDF file? It is acceptable to reduce the precision of the model shape/color/texture when inserting in the PDF. I think that my hardware is OK, THINKPAD 520 with 8G of RAM. It's urgent for me. For solutions or clues, please let me know.

  No direct experience of Okino but you won't find many people who say that their PolyTrans is a powerful tool. However, I have tested all other applications that I mentioned in my previous answer by a remark: If you aim to simplify the mesh, they are all extremely complex. Perhaps, the only suitable for the layman is Rhino rhinoceros - downloads; it provides an export utility where users can select several options to reduce the number of nodes. Also look at the script environment: I could quite easily find a way to generate scripts in Blender and MeshLab to process a batch of files without the GUI, but I didn't do it with Rhino, but I see it has script capabilities Rhinoceros - overview and Developer: rhinoscript [McNeel Wiki]

  Hello. I recently bought a HP Pavilion with Windows 8, and I'm unable to open Windows Explorer or the library. Whenever I click the icon pinned to the taskbar, I only get the preview of the libraries window, but it does not actually open it. In addition, whenever I try to open a file I just downloaded, Windows Explorer crashes and I have to restart. What is the problem?

  Thanks for the reply, but I fixed the problem via an update. Apparently, they sometimes configure Windows 8 to run as if you have two monitors, in order to open file Explorer, except she would open on my monitor second, non-existent. Genius, really.

  Large pdf (over 1000 pages) generated files form SSRS crashes when opened in Adobe reader 11 and saved as with "Optimized for fast web view" activated. This saves fine with disabling this option. However, our customers are not ready to accept this solution because they do not want to change any settings. Please suggest if we should create a ticket with microsoft for SSRS allow the generation of pdf quick display of Web pages or is it an option in Adobe to fix this problem without changing the settings.

  The SSRS file has Fast Web View: 'No' and that's how Microsoft SSRS generates these files.

  As you have indicated, the PDF SSRS seems to have some elements that are quite similar to be supported for fast web view.

  We asked customers to disable the fast web view, but the customer is big enough to make a change individually on their machines and so were looking for a solution.

  I saw in several forums and a few discussions here as well as disable the fast web view option works for pdf fails.

  Which was just wondering if its known that multiple PDFs genarted by third parties may have problems with the optimization, the Save as optimized for fast web view could be disabled by default installation of acrobat reader rather than be enabled by default
