Hello

Windows Media Player does not support playback of the .mp4 file format. You can reproduce .mp4 media files in Windows Media Player when you install the decoders compatible DirectShow MPEG-4 packs. For more information, see this Microsoft KB article.

Information on the types of media files that supports Windows Media Player

Step 1:

Try to install this pack of code and check if it helps.

Step 2:

Also, try searching the Internet. Often, you can go to the codec manufacturer's Web site to download the latest version of a codec.

OK and blows up you for not using the youtube converter. If you have an amazon account, you can go there and download it program of music and then buy the songs, or if you have an account log Msn on that range from music and then I think that you need to download a program by them I don't know, but do any of them. :)

I created a video demonstration using Captivate 7, then 8 Captivate. I have published on my computer as an mp4 file. When I play the MP4 file on WIndows Media Player audio plays but no video. My settings look good.

I run when I have it loaded as content to Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro. Audio and video playback with no problems. This could be a problem in WIndows Media Player? This just started happening.

I was able to contact Adobe Support. They had me try on the video release settings to change the preset custom YouTube Widescreen HD. This seems to fix the problem and the MP4 Player now plays in WIndows Media Player

  • MP4 video files do not appear in Windows Media Player 12

Hi, I have Windows 7 64 bit and WMP version 12.0.7600.16667

I have several .mp4 video files in the folder my videos that do not appear in the video library (other type .avi files). I want to listen to these files on my Sony Playstation so I did already a lot of googling but could not find a solution. From what I checked on my system, I already have a codec and if I click on a such file in play in WMP.

Can I do to solve this problem? Thank you.

I don't know if it has changed since Vista but Mp4 video was not a video file type recognized, so a registry change has been necessary to make it usable as MS file formats AVI or WMV etc... MS has (yet?) Default identified it as an audio file format. MP4 is in fact also a video container type of file, such as AVI. You need a separator of suitable as well as audio and video CODECs on the system file.

The instructions for the installation of ffdshow and Haali splitter should work:

    http://www.Afterdawn.com/guides/archive/how_to_play_mp4_files.cfm

It is essentially the same thing that I've done and MP4 files appear in my video library WMP.

  • -What someone answering questions on Windows Media Player. I can't download a license for music. It gives me error 438.

I have Windows Media Player 11

    Hello

1 have had any changes made to your computer before this problem?

Perform the following methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

There is a possibility that internet settings are causing this error 438 to come.

Go to your Internet Explorer and check the settings of Internet security. Make sure to set the level on 'medium high'. If the level is set higher, it can block the Windows Media Player to download the license, Windows Media Player error 438 to come.

Also in the Internet security settings, it is important to "run activex controls and plug-ins." By activating these two parameters, it must deal with what caused the error to occur in Windows Media Player.

Method 2: reset the DRM Bank on the computer.

To do this, follow these steps:

    (a) If Windows Media Player is running, exit Windows Media Player.

    (b) locate the DRM folder on the hard disk, and then rename the folder to DRMbackup DRM.

Note: by default, this folder is located in the following location in Windows:

    %SystemDrive%\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM

    (c) visit the following Microsoft Web site:

    http://drmlicense.one.Microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp

    (d) follow the instructions on the website to update the safety component of Windows Media Player. This procedure allows you to obtain new licenses for media content. You can also reset licenses for purchased content so that you can play that content on a computer.

Note: DRMs, such as Microsoft Windows Product Activation, maintain an internal hardware ID. This ID is based on the hardware configuration that existed during the installation of Windows or installing Windows Media Player 11. If you change the processor of the computer or other devices, the hardware in the DRM system ID does not match the new computer configuration. When this occurs, DRM determines that a user has tried to move the content protected to a different computer. This behavior can also occur if the storage protected by DRM in the Windows registry has been changed.

Note: you must contact any third-party stores where you purchased music to reset the licenses for that music. If you copied CDs for protected Windows Media Audio files, the CD must be copied again.

For your reference: When you try to use Windows Media Player 11 to play a digital rights (DRM) - management protected, multimedia media can not play

The dialog box that you quoted says "Project file" in Windows Live Movie Maker

So... just to clarify... MP4 extension or WLMP or something else?

If the files are MP4, you will need to convert them to WMV format before
    import into Movie Maker.

There are many programs that can do conversions...
The following freeware is an example...:

Factory... you can open the program and
left click on the toolbar, the "Option" button and
"Select an output folder to" / apply / OK.
(this is where you find your files after they)
    are converted)

Drag and drop your video clips on the main screen...

Select "all to WMV" / OK...

Click on... Beginning... in the toolbar...

    That should do it...

Will not play WMV video files

I'm having a problem to play wmv. video files.  I have windows vista.  I can play music in Windows Media Player, but can not play any video, that is sent to me by e-mail.  WMP crashes and give a message saying that Windows Media Player has encountered a problem while playing the file. • Windows Media Player 12 will not play mp4, mp3, wmv files through IIS hosted local site when the PC is disconnected from the Internet

I have an IIS Web site 6.1 on local 32-bit Windows 7 machine that serves HTML and MP4 videos via Internet Explorer on the local computer.  An internet connection is not necessary because it is all local storage and local accommodations through IIS.  IIS is configured to serve the MP4 videos in the form of downloadable files, don't not streaming somehow.  I have the right MIME type ".mp4" with the installation of "video/mp4" in the IIS server, so I don't think that's the problem.

When the machine is connected to the internet, by clicking on a video link MP4 in any HTML page served by the local IIS server results in Windows Media Player opening and playing the video in its own window.  However, when the Ethernet cable is unplugged, by clicking on the same results of video link MP4 in Windows Media Player by opening its own window, and then display this error message:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file.  If the file is on the Internet, connect to the Internet.  If the file is on a removable storage card, insert the storage card.

It's almost as if Windows Media Player has a bug and since it accesses this media file via a URL, but the machine is not connected to a network, he thinks that this file is unplayable.

When the Ethernet cable is disconnected, the local IIS server is still all the HTML code and ActiveX content except for media files.  I also tried to access MP3 and WMV files via the IIS server to see if Windows Media Player will open those when the computer is disconnected from the Internet.  These caused also Windows Media Player files display the same error message.

I tried the VLC (VideoLAN) Player after changing the property file in VLC of WMP for .mp4 files extension.  With VLC installed and the extension changed to VLS property, I can download/open the MP4 video using the link in the web page served by IIS all when they are disconnected from the internet.  The only thing I can't do is get VLC player to open and play the video simply by clicking on the link in Internet Explore web pages served by the local IIS server.

I would like to make use of Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player with this IIS server that serves the MP4 videos rather than using VLC player.

    Thank you

    Michael Rayman

I finally found the answer to my problem:

When they are disconnected from the internet, mysteriously, Windows Media Player 12 requires that you check a checkbox in tools > Options... > zone settings tab player called "Internet connection (ignore the other commands).  Once this box is checked and the settings saved on APPLY, then Windows Media Player 12 will play videos served by the local IIS server on the same machine, while disconnected from the Internet.

  • Windows Media Player 12 (WMP 12) are not saving the data in the library

Hi all, been having a few problems with WMP 12, because I reinstalled Win7 enterprise following an upgrade of the processor (from AMD to Intel, had to reinstall).  Since that I had two problems, both probably originate in the same root.  Everytime I open WMP I see "There is no data in your library", until it scans the hard drive for files.  It's true that if I let this scan for 30 minutes, then turn off and on.  He simply has no information, period.  Secondly, when it filled with information, it mentions two copies of each song.

My personal theory is that it could be caused by an old cache of WMP log are stored somewhere on the PC.  Perhaps WINDOWS.old?  Please keep in mind it was a reinstall of W7 W7 E E again.  Theories, ideas or legal remedies will be appreciated.  The problem seems localized to WMP, my libraries (pictures, videos, etc.) and everything seems to be intact however.

I tried to change the location of the file, only to have WMP search folders for some and a few other things (disabling, allowing streaming media, for example) are stored within my installation of W7 HD and another HD in the same machine.

    Hi SRedX,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers community.

Try to manually add files to Windows media player and see if the problem still occurs.

    Method 1:

This problem may be due to database corruption.  You can delete the Windows Media Player database and check if the problem persists.

Steps to clear the database of windows media player:

    1. exit Windows Media Player.
    2. click on start, run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.
    3. Select all the files in the folder and then click on Delete on the file menu.

Note You don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    4. restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. exit Windows Media Player.
    2. If you are using Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft and then click OK.

If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, click Run, type % LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft and then click OK.

    3. Select the Media Player folder, and then click on Delete on the file menu.
    4. restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

If the method above have not solved your problem, try the method below.

    Method 2:

Try reinstalling windows media player by following the steps below.

    1. click on the Start button and select Control Panel
    2. click on programs, then select programs and features
    3. click on Turn Windows features on or off on the left, go to the section multimedia features and uncheck Windows Media Player, press OK to uninstall Windows Media Player.
4 restart the computer. Later, go back and put a check mark against Windows Media Player to install it once more.
5 restart the computer once more.

    Hope this information is useful.
Let me know if it worked.
