As a simple router WRT610N

Hi all...

I just installed a new WRT610N to replace my old router + access point who died days ago.

The Setup is simple enough:

WAN interface with address static 192.168.0.2/24 GW 192.168.0.1 (my main firewall)

LAN interface with 192.168.10.0/24 static address, DHCP enabled to assign addresses to 192.168.10.100 to 192.168.10.199

Everything works from a computer connected to the WRT610N LAN subnet (wired or wireless)... I can ping 192.168.10 *, * 192.168.0, 192.168.2 * (the subnet connected to the firewall DMZ) and internet connection (also through the firewall) works as expected.

But from a computer on the network * 192.168.0 (the subnet on which the WAN WRT610 interface is connector), there is no way to reach the machines that are on the LAN subnet. I created a static route in the main firewall, and to be sure, I also tried with a static route on a computer that is connected to the subnet 192.168.0 * (route add 192.168.10.0 mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.0.2)... no way.

SPI Firewall is disabled and also each of the filters.

What I am doing wrong?

Thank you in advance...

CiaoCiaoSergio

Your router should still active NAT. With NAT, the router only translation of IP addresses between the address LAN IP addresses as well as the WAN IP address. Because of this, the LAN is inaccessible. That's how any consumer type router protects the LAN from the internet.

You must disable NAT. It is usually on the Advanced Routing page. It is call "NAT" or "Mode of operation".

Bridge mode = active NAT.
Router mode = disabled NAT.

If you have configured the correct static route on your firewall, it should work then...

Make sure that your firewall then, provides NAT for the subnet WRT. With disabled NAT IP addresses * 192.168.10 will get to the firewall. If your firewall is not configured to do NAT for 192.168.10. * He'll send those not changed in the internet where they will be discontinued.

Of course, if you want a full interconnectivity between WRT LAN and WAN side then you should consider setting up as plain simple access point connecting it via a LAN port to your existing LAN. That would save all routing and NAT problems...

  • Nook Color ereader & connectivity problems with router WRT610N

I recently bought a new Nook color ereader for my wife. As long as a network administrator, I thought that this would be an easy task to configure the ereader to connect with my Linksys WRT610N router on the 2.4 Ghz band. But I'm running problems when connecting. The question seems to have intermittent connection problems where the meals seem to see the wireless network, authenicates, tries to get an IP address, then connects for a short period or removes the signal very quickly while being right on top of the router with the device.

By the recommendations of various forums of Nook, I had the best luck with the following...

    2.4 Ghz band settings

    SSID: NookNetwork

    Channel width: 20 GHZ

    Standard channel: 9

    SSID Broadcast: enabled

    Security mode: WPA2 Personal

    Encryption: AES

    Passphrase: set out

    Key renewal: 3600

    UPNP: disabled

    RTS: default

    Defragmentation: default

    Tag: default

However, the problem still resides in an intermittent connection to the wireless network. I also tried various arrangements of the channel to both channels 1, 6 and 11 with my best cponnecting chance to channel 9. I also played with the security and disabled all together and have plugged but always file (will not however run the unsecured network). Also try a tag value of 75, a framework of fragmentation of 2306 and 2307 RTS setting. My computer laptop while run and connect properly.

I use the latest software updated both on the color of the corner. I am at the end and have searched high and low to get suggestions, and have not yet reached a compatible connection. Please help... Thank you! And my wife thank you in advance! Smiles!

  • New Vista computer and router WRT610N

Just changed the desktop computer on my home network for a 64 bit Vista system. In order to access the router web-based utility I need to run the configuration of the router process? If so, it replaces the existing settings on my router? Is there a file that I need to copy from my old machine that will save existing settings from my router so that I can update the settings after you run the installation procedure?

    Thanks in advance,

    Mike

It sounds Basic, but have you tried a simple reset?

Unplug your modem for 15 seconds and plug back in and wait for the lights to light upward.

Unplug the router for 15 seconds and plug back in and wait for the lights to light upward.

    Restart your computer.

    Try again.

  • Simple router to VPN support - client connection to the database server

How can I set up a simple VPN using the WAG325N? Is there a step by step guide that doesn't require me to read a book on the VPN to understand each setting? My needs are quite simple: I need to connect a client computer in Windows Server 2003 running Team Foundaion Server - just like allowing a client to connect to SQL Server running in Visual Studio 2008.

Otherwise, I could buy a new router. However, I have to have the same feature set as my WAG325N and hopefully allow me to back up the existing configuration + restore on the new router. What router you would recommend?

In reality, the solution has already been provided by Linksys:

Instructions to set up the VPN between two routers

It works very well. Problem solved!

  • YouTube & router WRT610N

    Hi everyone, [Hi Dr. Nick!]

Sorry, my teacher of 6th grader always taught me to open with a joke and well... as you can tell I'm not an actor.

anyway... first time poster, long user date Linksys. Recently bought a Linksys WRT610N wireless router. It is up and working well, or so I think only. All of a sudden I noticed a bit of lag on YouTube. This has never happened before, and now it seems that every video I play is extremely agitated. Not only that, but sometimes I'll click on a video and it says it transfers data in the lower left corner of the screen (in the status bar), but after he allegedly did load the data, nothing happens. The video will not play. But... If I drag the progress a little indicator to the right, the video starts to play; only to be stopped at a party later in the video (due to late I guess) and the video just freezes completely after that. The bright red progress bar that indicates the video is fully charged stops charging. I speak not of the dark red progress bar, but behind it. Check out a video on YouTube and you'll see what I mean.

BTW is the computer on that happening my computer in the basement, which is connected to the wireless router. I did some research on this forum, but the only information I came across what for my router wireless (WRT610) & YouTube was involving uploading to YouTube. I don't know I have the right settings (but I could be wrong here as I am new to wireless routers). Does anyone have an idea why this is happening?

    Hey guys,.

I wanted to thank you guys for your help (I like it). I don't think that the Linksys WRT610N is the router wireless for me. I couldn't go beyond freezing on me and the constant decline signals of YouTube videos. I decided to call two friends and ask for their help.

I asked them to surf on YouTube and I would like to know if they have problems (this was done in real time that I've been waiting). Two of them said that everything was fine. I then gave him another go myself, but who has experienced the same problem. Then I decided to take a trip to Future Shop and bought another router; another brand. It is not a double router broadband, just to let you know.

I plugged the router exactly in the same way I did the Linksys WRT610N and guess what? The signals are beautiful, YouTube works like a charm, and I'm not being disconnected every two minutes. I'm not denigrating Linksys, because I only got the router wireless for 2 days. But one thing is very clear to me, the WRT610N certainly had some problems with it; mine did at least.

I guess that dual-band is not as high on my wish list feature is.

Thanks again for your help guys.

  • Using a WRT54G as access Wi - Fi point with a gateway WRT610N router

I just replaced my gateway WRT54G with a WRT610N router and all is well.  However, I would like to know if it is possible for me to use the old WRT54G as a bridge to access point / wireless on a different floor to the catwalk... Here I want the WRT54G connect Wireless as a router to router WRT610N bridge (not the cables on the LAN ports) and then I want to use its LAN ports on the WRT54G to wired local devices rather than use it as a wireless extension. I read several post, but most seem to suggest the wiring between the routers.

With the Linksys firmware: No. Is not possible. A Linksys wireless router will no longer work as bridge. It connect wireless to other devices. You need to run a cable

With the 3rd party firmware like dd - wrt or tomato: you can configure the router as a repeater or wireless gateway. Please check the documentation of the 3rd firmware part to see if your router model and version is compatible. Remember, that a bridge or a Repeater with the WRT54G will slow down your entire wireless network.

  • Router WNDR3700v2 vulnerability

So I had a WNDR3700v2 with the latest firmware for the moment and I noticed that there's a vulnerability in it but no updates are made to this. Is it possible to avoid the vulnerability if I uses a wifi password very strong and pass the settings router with disabling remote management, readyshare, dlna, upnp and other things and do the router be just a simple router with a firewall and no fancy features. Why I ask, it's the router was a lot of work after 5 years, which is much longer than the average router these days. If this is not the case, the netgear wndr4300v2 there any known vulnerabilitys which has not been set.

It is best to keep your router updated to ensure safety.

Here are the latest release Notes for WNDR3700v2 and WNDR4300v2 for your reference.

The release notes indicates all the bugs and problems known with the latest firmware.

  • Degradation in speed WRT610N

    IT pro with a new router WRT610N - Firmware Version: 2.00.00 B05

Connection Internet is a cable modem of 30 MB and I have connections wired two gigabit for the WRT610N and two 100 MB wired connections and multiple wireless devices.  I use WPA-2 on both bands and MAC address filtering.  I have NO problem with the wireless, in fact, that it runs better than I expected.

HOWEVER, my internet connection the router's wireless AND wired connections is deteriorating in the speed of 25-30 MB up to about 5 MB on a daily basis.  If I just restart the WRT610N, back right connection speed shoots up to 30 MB each time - this leads me to believe that the WRT610N is the culprit here.  I don't have any special settings other than a few forwarded ports to my desktop and I don't see any wandering TCP connection when these speed degradations occur.  Even a restart of the computer has no effect.  Apparently, it is in the router.

I would like any suggestions you all have in this case - as I can hardly believe that I am the only person with these symptoms.  I have been using Linksys and Cisco equipment for many years and have never had a problem.

Please, let me repeat - this is NOT a problem with my wireless, so don't suggest things like disable MAC filtering and others - this is specific to the overall speed of connection to internet via the WRT610N Wi-wired connections AND.

    Thanks in advance!

    Brian
