  • Switched back to Fusion. Impossible to remove the icons from Parallels

This is a repost. I was probably not word the subject well enough on the first post

I use the Fusion user for 4 years now, but in order to satisfy my curiosity I looked into Parallels 8 to see what differences there are between it and the Fusion.

Because I assumed two virtual machine programs work would present a problem I uninstalled Fusion and installed Parallels 8. Uninstallation of the merger was without incident, as the installation of Parallels 8. After using it for about two weeks, I decided that I would stay with Fusion since Parallels did give any real advantage in a world of Boot Camp.

I followed the instructions for the elimination of Parallels in the side Mac and the tools of the side Windows. I then reinstalled merger. Everything was back to where it was before my tests, or so it seemed.

I discovered some latency in the boot process, as well as garbage on the screen (at the start of Windows) that wasn't there before that I did my unfortunate test. I then dug deeper into the side Mac and searched all Parallels and found a lot of stray files that uninstalling seemed to have ignored or missed, ranging from the plists at hidden in the library folders. I carefully deleted only files that have been clearly identified as 'Parallels' files and folders. I tested the program VMWare Fusion and everything seems to work fine, but I've always had this nagging suspicion that everything was not as "clean" as it was before the test.

Yesterday, I finally got fed up with the slow start of Windows 7 Pro and decided to look in the Windows registry. Boy, was I in for a surprise. There were more than 600 entries from channels that Parallels creeps in and through the Windows registry. Fortunately I am versed in regedit and quickly cleaned up the filth of Parallels. My MBP seems to boot properly.

I'm having a small problem on Mac side that maybe you can help solve. In my taskbar, there is the BootCamp/VMware arrow. If I click on it, a drop down menu appears with the Parallels icon (see image)Screen Shot 2013-02-14 at 7.01.42 PM.png

I can't, for the life of find me the file or the folder associated with this 'Parallels Desktop (Mac)"listed program. Behind the drop down menu is a list of all files that have the exact string "Parallels Desktop (Mac)" included in it. And now my question.

What can I delete or change to rid myself of this icon and the list?

For the record, I'm on a MBP (late 2008) 8 GB of RAM and using Boot Camp on an NTFS partition

Click the Applications Menu Settings button under the drop-down list button in your screenshot.

  • How to get back to Fusion 1.1.3?

Fusion 2, OK has totally me messed up and I have a few critical things I have to do this week in my virtual machine to Windows 2000.

I have the 1.1.3 Fusion dmg file

I have a copy of the old virtual machine Time Machine (made when the merger is not executed if should be ok)

I have a backup of my application data that are going up until today.

I need to know how to restore the Fusion facility on the old rev and then trying to get my request to return to work by using the VM my backup and my backup of data from today.

Help, I searched but nothing speaks to install the old version only on the upgrade to the latest version.

I need to know how to restore the Fusion facility on the old rev and then trying to get my request to return to work by using the VM my backup and my backup of data from today.

Uninstall merge using the program to uninstall in/Library/Application Support / VMware Fusion /. Reboot if you want - it is usually not necessary, but sometimes it takes. Install 1.x. restore your backup of virtual machine.

  • Fusion 5: Cmd + Tab does not return to full screen

    Hello

So I've just updated to Fusion 5, and when I'm working in my virtual machine in full-screen, then command + Tab on another Mac app, when I Cmd + Tab back to Fusion, it is not to return to the display full screen as 4 did.   It shows just the Virtual Machine library window.  What is the right way to make it back to full screen?

On the View menu, "full screen" is always checked.   Selecting again toggles in single window mode.  Selecting additional time turn mode full screen.   Please don't tell me that it is the only way to return; I probably do a hundred times a day.

  • Decommissioning of equipment after Fusion 4 demo

    Hey all,.

I tried merging v4 but did not really see a large part of the gains and had some additional questions.  So I leave walking test until the end and then tried to go back to Fusion v3 for which I have a license.

Problem - I need to downgrade my hardware in order to run my VMs on Fusion3.  However, since the v4 trial period is expired it won't let me run 4 Fusion to demote the computer virtual hardware.

Someone at - it ideas?  A small stand-alone tool to downgrade the VMs would be great.

    Thank you

    Adrian

    Welcome to the community,

I don't think that there is a formal way to downgrade the virtual hardware. However, it might be sufficient to change/edit the virtual machine configuration (.vmx) file and define hardware version virtual back to 7.

Before manually changing the configuration files, remember to save the file to / virtual machine package.

  • Upgrade to Fusion 4 VM (graphic simulation?)

IM fusion VM 3 running on a PowerMac G5 with OSX, I am interested in upgrading to fusion 4 because of the statement of up to 2.5 x faster graphics.  However, I am interested to know if VMfusion 4 always simulates graphics using Ram instead of being able to access the graphics card on my Mac.  Can anyone say about that?  Someone at - it updated and seen a great improvement in graphics?  I mainly use it for 3d, Rhino and Solidworks modeling

    See you soon

The graphics speed "acceleration" varies according to your needs; I guess with some functions, it will be quite a bit faster and with others, it won't be. I have no experience with Solidworks.

The best way to know is to install the trial of Fusion 4 - mind that you back up your VM before you try it out and ensure you keep your Fusion 3.1.3 images so that you can go back to Fusion 3 If you are not satisfied with the Fusion 4.

  • Fusion 3.0 cannot be installed in the new iMac (no CD?)

I just did a clean install of SL on a new iMac 21.5 inches and then installed Fusion 3.0. When I tried to install WinXP Pro, I get a message saying that there is no bootable CD media. Interestingly, Fusion sees the CD when I start first, since it proposes to install this OS. I tried two diffΘrents CDs, freshly created from an ISO image, and I know that the CD is good (and bootable). I'm about to fall back to Fusion 2.06 and see if it works, but I thought I'd check first to see if someone would have a suggestion that I could try. I've seen similar positions (CD disappeared to Midway in installation), so I guess that it is a known problem with 3.0.

The extent of the downgrade goes, since it is a new installation of merger with no virtual machine is it's easier to just remove the application and no preferences file may exist, and then do a clean install of 2.06?

I hope that VMWare will fix this problem quickly, since it is a bit frustrating to buy a product and know it does not work...

Have you tried to use an ISO Image?

    ==========

Note: When you use utility disk in order to have a bootable ISO Image, you must select Master CD/DVD without encryption in which case by default, it will have an extension .cdr file and in version 1.1 of the merger and later does not need to be changed in .iso, although one can if one chooses to. A default .dmg image is compressed and is not bootable, as an uncompressed .dmg will start if changed in .iso and of course the source CD/DVD should be bootable in the first place.

To create an ISO Image using disk utility...

1 insert the CD or DVD disc into the optical drive of your computer.

    2. open disk utility (/ Applications/Utilities/Disk utility).

    3. Select the CD or DVD drive in the list of disks and volumes.

    4. Choose file > new > "Disk Image from (name of the disc)."

    5. type a name for the disk image.

    6. choose "DVD/CD master" from the Image Format pop-up menu.

7 choose "none" from the encryption pop-up menu.

    8. click on save.

After you have made the ISO Image and then eject the disc source from the optical drive.

Then, set the ISO Image as the CD/DVD in the leaf of the parameters of the Virtual Machine.

Hi Lorpoceand welcome to the VMware communities!

If you are running a MacBook Pro for mid-2012 with the latest Apple updates, you will probably encounter accidents unless you disable 3D graphics: with your virtual machine off, go into the VM > settings, and then choose viewand disable the option of 3D graphics acceleration .  If you only run Windows virtual machines, you also have the possibility to go back to Fusion 5.0.1.

We're actively investigating the issue that arises only with the release of the Apple MacBook Air and MacBook Pro update 2.0 end of last week.  Sorry for the inconvenience!

  • WinXP will comments do not keep display driver after merger 4.1.2 upgraded

    All,

After updating my VMware Fusion s/w to 4.1.2 4.1.1 I experienced a form of very strange behaviour of my WinXP/SP3 comments O/S VM.

The first thing I noticed is that the screen comes with its VGA settings by default even if the VMware driver is clearly indicated.   I read on another thread "Uninstall" the driver, which requires a reboot, and after that restart Windows to reconnect the VMware driver.  This great work, the problem is that I do every time I have to perform an initial start-up of my WinXP guest VM.  (I need to start twice just to get the display work correctly with the VMware driver)

I noticed a few other unstable events with my Cisco VPN client sw.

I tried to reinstall the VMware Tools, but the only thing that happens is the tools mounted on CD-ROM media and never auto-run.  Even with "installation" manually, I see no activity that would tell me that the tools are updated.

How to solve this problem or roll back VM Fusion 4.1.1?   Thank you!

    -Tom

If VMware Toolsls of uninstalling/reinstalling does not solve the problem of display driver then I would uninstall/reinstall VMware Fusion version 4.1.1. This can be done by uninstalling the currently installed version and then download directly from VMware the 4.1.1 version of VMware Fusion and install it.

  • updated to v2.0.4 - drop in performance...

I always serve Fusion for about a year--on the same system. No significant problems. My needs are very simple - I run a PC of Quicken version. That is - that - jump on, make my deal, down. I don't spend much time with her and I'm not an expert with merger or Windows.

I've recently upgraded to v2.0.4. First thing I noticed is that my Mac fan runs more (no applications running on the Mac side). I guess that means that the processor is working more hard. It's not hot in the room where I work - so this isn't a problem. Then, while in Quicken, if I opened a dialog box and drag it around, it moves more slowly than it has in the past.

I'm assuming that something has happened with v2.0.4 which has an impact on the performance of my Mac. Comments?

    System:

    MacBook 2.2

    OS X 10.5.6

    RAM: 4 GB

    Fusion: 2.0.4

Windows XP version 5.1 (what horrible POS)

Quicken Home & Business 2009 R5 (another point of sale - see what happens when someone has a near-monopoly!)

Performance issues with Fusion Fusion 1.x vs 2.x have been covered in detail in this forum and a search of the forum should give information without him having to be repeated.

My suggestion would be, since you only use Windows in a limited capacity, go back using Fusion 1.x however if you don't back up the Virtual Machine before the upgrade, you should have, and that you have upgrade virtual hardware make sure to select Downgrade Virtual Machine in the Virtual Machine menu before uninstalling VMware Fusion 2.x and 1.x Fusion facility.

  • How to get back in the car Fusion 3 TB to the original scores?

I just had my Fusion 3 TB 2012 end iMac drive replaced under warranty and have encountered a problem after trying to create a 2 TB Bootcamp partition.  For some reason, I ran into problems installing Win 10 after having successfully created the partition, so I decided to use the Bootcamp assistant to delete the Bootcamp partition, but it threw an error message before the end!  That left me with a disc Mac HD 1 TB and 2 TB of space utility disk refuses to acknowledge, and I don't see a way to extend the Mac HD partition to fill this space?  Is there a simple way to restore the drive to its original state or what I need to use commercial partitioning software to do this?

Apple did not provide an easy way to recover from this condition. Please read this message before doing anything. If you don't feel confident that you can follow the instructions, ask someone more experienced to help you. One option is to take an appointment 'Genius' on an Apple Store.

This procedure applies only to an iMac or a Mac mini with a drive installed in the smelter. If one of the internal drives (SSD and HDD) has been replaced by a hot spare, ask for other instructions.

You must read these instructions while no web browser is running, so either print them or load them onto another device before you start.

    1. all the data on the internal disks will be deleted, including Boot Camp data, which are not saved by Time Machine. You need at least two complete and independent backups. A backup is not enough to be sure. There are ways to back up a computer that is not fully functional. Ask if you need advice.

    2. you will need to start one recovery system other than the one on the internal hard drive (if he has one.) There are several ways to do so.

    a. If you have a backup time of the Machine (not a network backup), or a compatible Mac OS X installation on an external drive, then you should be able to start it by holding down press option key to start ringing. Select the external hard drive in the row of icons that is displayed. I mean by "compatible", an installation running on the machine. A version of Mac OS X that is older than the machine is not compatible.

    b. If you used Recovery Disk Wizard (or can use it now) to prepare a system recovery on a USB flash drive, you can start that by pressing the C button on the ring. No icons will appear. Startup will be much slower than usual.

    c. start the Internet recovery mode by pressing the key combination command-option-R to start ringing. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe. Select a language, if you are prompted.

Note: You need an Ethernet or Wi - Fi connection to Internet to use the features of recovery network. It will not work with modems USB or PPPoE, proxy servers or networks that require a certificate for authentication.

    3. disconnect all other external storage devices.

    4. in the OS X Utilities screen, select get online help. Safari will launch. While in recovery, you will have no access to your bookmarks or history, but you won't need them. Load this web page.

    5. triple - click anywhere in the line below to select this option:

diskutil cs deleteLVG `diskutil cs list | awk 'NR==3{print $NF}'`

Copy the selected text in the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination.

Quit Safari. You go back to the OS X Utilities screen.

    6. in the menu bar, select

    Utilities ▹ Terminal

Launch the Terminal application. Paste in the Terminal window by pressing the command-V key combination. Wait for a new line ending with a number sign (#) to appear. If nothing happens, press the return key.

Quit the Terminal must be returned to the main screen.

What happens then depends on what version of recovery that you are running.

☞ If the machine came with OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), 10.9 ("Swat") or 10.8 ("Mountain Lion"), and you're in the recovery of the Internet, please take step 7A and proceed to step 7B.

☞ otherwise, go to step 7A and 7B step.

If you are unsure which version of Mac OS X, the machine came with, search for it on this page.

After taking these steps apply, you must have a reader of empty Fusion named 'Macintosh HD' on which you can perform step 8a or 8b step.

    7. repair of the Fusion drive (see "Troubleshooting" on the linked page.) Quit disk utility.

    7. Enter the command below as in steps 4-6:

    N=Macintosh\ HD; for d in /dev/disk?; do o=`diskutil info $d`; [[ ! "$SSD" ]] && grep -lqw 'APPLE SSD' <<< "$o" && SSD=$d; [[ ! "$HDD" ]] && grep -lqw 'APPLE HDD' <<< "$o" && HDD=$d; [[ "$SSD" && "$HDD" ]] && break; done; diskutil cs create "$N" $SSD $HDD && diskutil cs createLV "$N" jhfs+ "$N" 100%

It is a very long line, and you won't see it on the web page. Be sure to select the entire line, not just the part that you can see.

    Leaving the Terminal.

    8. If you have a Time Machine backup, connect the device to backup and restore your data. If you have saved to a network like a time Capsule device, it must be connected automatically.

8B. If you do not have a Time Machine backup, or if you can not restore from Time Machine backup that you do not have, install OS x Restore data later in The Migration Wizard.

In the Internet recovery mode, you install the original version of Mac OS X comes with the machine. If you have upgraded the operating system on the App Store, you will need to do it again.

I use VMware Fusion on OS X and Windows Vista.  I have a pair of Harmon Kardon Soundsticks connected via USB.  I have activated their merger via the menu "settings".  The merger is able to use them to read audio data.  So far so good.

However, when I left the audio for OS X by default Fusion to the internal speaker.  What more, when I go into Preferences system & gt; His, I don't see that the output listed in the tab Soundsticks Harmon more.  It is as if the Fusion 'hijacked' them and returns to OS X.

I tried to unplug the USB dongle and in plugging it back.  Does not work.  Tried to disconnect and rear connection.  Does not work.  The only thing that solved the problem is to reboot.  Of course, it is a pain.

  • Resolution of screen changes back back when switch between Yosemite and Fusion 7

Upgrade to Yosemite on my MacBook Pro has forced me to also upgrade to Fusion 5, who had been very stable and problem free. Unfortunately, I knew a behavior very boring to the resolution of the screen in my virtual session of Windows 7, when I toggle between Yosemite and the virtual partition of Windows 7. Any time that make a screen resolution change and change over on the side of Yosemite, when I return to Windows 7, the resolution returns to the default setting of 2880 X 1800, which requires a magnifying glass to see! Does anyone else know this? I couldn't find a thread discussing this problem, but I know that yosemite is new.

In addition, since it is clearly a bug, can someone tell me the best way to report it to VMWare? I'm sure they want to know about the bugs, but I don't know the best way to report them. They were very helpful when I discovered how hard this upgrade to Yosemite before checking to see Fusion 5 was consistent (if not) was a mistake on my part - they got me on track, and even if it's a bear to learn how to get a live person on the line with VMWare site Once I did, I finally got a guy who nailed - Kudos to their technical support for this team.
