    Rich, Yes, the DVD can take the place of the partition.  However, I would test to ensure that they work properly before you delete the partition of the DVD.
    Yes, however, it will restore your computer to its original state.  This means that you will no longer Win 7, but programs and original OS.

  • Incremental backups and Database Point-in-time recovery.

    Hello.
    I want to know how rman managed backups after resetlogs. For example, I did the first level 0 out of 10 and the second level 0 on 20. Each day, I make for the two L0 L1. I made a Point-in-time recovery to 15th on 23. RMAN will consider second L0 and L1, all of which were made after 15 as obsolete?

    RMAN performs backups according to current incarnation. You can't do based on abandoned L0 L1. Even if you use the same tag, rman will create new L0. But rman can use all the backups for restoration/recovery. Abandoned backups are also subject to the same policy to tighten.

  • "Backup of database error" message blackBerry Smartphones

    Hello

    I have the version "BOLD" 4.6.0.162 and Desktop Manager version 4.7 working with XP SP3.  In the past, I got my phone from backup.  Until several weeks ago, I am unable to back up my phone and received the message "backup of databases error."  It happens at different stages during the progress of the transfer.

    I followed the suggestions posted by françoys, http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=Bold&message.id=3676&query.id=57237#M3676, but still no go.

    My questions are:

    1 has any who found the solution yet?

    2. can I still perform the update (System, critical applications software, etc. via Desktop Manager) without losing files data base and music and picture my contact?

    3. is the advanced option in the backup and recovery solution?

    Thank you.

    Ok.  I solved the problem.

    I have 'forward' option of backup and moved the point by point.  There were a few elements indicated errors then I "cleaned" them.  Once all items have been moved, I did regularly back up again.  It worked fine now.

    Hope this might help other who is facing a similar problem.

    I have a backup RMAN PROD server.

    I also backup current cf and cf standby backup.

    Then I copied the following on the DR server.

    1. backup of database

    2. the current CF (controlfile)

    3 stadby cf

    Can I perform a normal recovery using the current see (not yet open)

    My question is, can I replace the current CF with CF Eve, then start going up and resume the recovery pending?

    Kind regards

    Hello

    Yes you can!

    you will need to take a controlfile Eve since elementary school and replace it.

    RMAN > backup controlfile Eve format ' / tmp/standby_ctl.tmp ';

    Take the controlfile and location pending restore

    RMAN > restore controlfile eve of ' / tmp/standby_ctl.tmp ';

    Once completed.

  • Is make Journal required for backup of database hot and cold water?

    Hi Experts,

    Please explain--again it takes to backup of database hot and cold water?

    Thank you

    Did you backup managed user or RMAN backup. In RMAN backup, you only need logs archived. But in the cold backup managed user, you don't need the redolog also if the PB was properly arrested. Jut copy the DBF and controlfile and put it there to the target server and during the recovery of redolog files will be created automatically.

    Please note that the database must be correctly stopped before cold backup is taken.

  • Difference between the backup of database to copy and backup of database

    Hi all

    Kindly differentiate between backup database copy and backup of database.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

    With image backups, you have the option of two things:

    1. use these as rman backup and ask to restore them to the desired location (the same that we do in restoration of backupsets).

    2. tell the database to use these files.  This is possible by ' switch database copy. This is useful when the recovery will take a long time.  This allows you to move the users directly to the backup that you restore to the original location.  In other words, your database remains open with the users who access the copy.

    in both cases, you would:

    1 restore a controlfile

    2. the backup catalog

    RMAN > catalogue start with noprompt "/ backup location, in this case copy data files."

    3A. If you want to restore the database, so you might as same as usual:

    run

    {

    Set up until...

    newname Set...

    restore the database...

    recover the database...

    }

    ALTER database open resetlogs;

    3B. If you want to "switch" to the backup, you must run:

    switch database to copy;

    recover the database up to the...

    ALTER database open resetlogs;

    NOTE: before open resetlogs, remember that your online log file location is valid for the server on which you are restoring.  See:

    Select Member from v$ logfile;

  • Create a scheduled task to backup the catalog recovery - Oracle 11 g

    I used batch files to automate the backup of the production database to perform the task as shown below

    For example, I created a batch file; who should then use a normal Windows Task Scheduler as illustarted below

    Set ORACLE_SID = orcl

    RMAN target / catalog newspaper rman/manager@catdb script C:\Orionbackup\Level0.log APPEND = LEVEL0_BACKUP

    My backup strategy is only half done, since I still need to make a backup of the Recovery Catalog; but I am unable to find a way to automate it. Since I have to connect to with the NOCATALOG RMAN and use the for metadata backup Controlfile; I obviously can't use an RMAN script is that someone has found a way to automate the backup of recovery catalog?

    You can use the tell RMAN cmdfile argument to read a script from an operating system file.

  • What is the recommendation on the backup of a recovery catalog?

    While I understand "benefits of using recovery catalog as the RMAN Repository ' as described in

    http://download-UK.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B10501_01/server.920/a96566/rcmquick.htm#442214

    as well as things to note if you are using the unique control as the rman repository file,

    as described in "Monitoring the overwhelming control file Records" in http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96566/rcmrepos.htm#446924

    I do not understand why in Backup and Recovery Advanced User Guide
    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B14117_01/server.101/B10734/rcmrepos.htm

    "Save often Recovery Catalog"

    Even if you need to restore the recovery catalog database by using a backup control file, you can use full backups folder in your catalog database restored recovery to restore the database target without using a backup of the target database control file.

    = > implies without doubt that we can use a different catalog of recovery we'll call it backupbackup to restore the recovery catalog

    "Choose the appropriate method for physical backups.

    Follow these steps when developing a strategy for RMAN backup to the recovery catalog database:

    * Run in ARCHIVELOG mode recovery catalog database so that you can do point-in-time recovery if necessary.
    * Set the retention policy to REDUNDANCY greater than 1.
    * Save the database on two separate media (for example, disks and tapes).
    * Run the base BACKUP of DATA PLUS ARCHIVELOG at regular intervals, to a Media Manager if available, or simply to drive.
    * Do not use a different catalog recovery as a repository for backups. = > This is in contradiction with the previous declaration
    * Set up automatic backup of control file on IT.

    so can I know what is the recommendation on the backup of a recovery catalog? should I use another recovery catalog to keep deposits from rman of the main primary catalog or simply use a feature of automatic backup of control file?

    Thank you

    To Catalog backup recovery, it is recommended to enable autobackup controlfile ON and save in nocatalog mode (IE without another recovery catalog).

    The doc States that: "even if you have to restore the database catalog of recovery using a backup control file, you can then use the full record of backups in your database to catalog recovery restored to restore the target database without using a backup of the target database control file.".

    What this means, is-
    The target database backup files are stored in the recovery catalog schema tables, not in the controlfile recovery catalog. When you are using a control file backup and restores them recover from the recovery catalog database, you won't lose target database backup files.

  • Problem in database recovery

    I have the database to Oracle 10 g (10.2.0.1.0) on Windows Server 2003

    I took hot RMAN full backup of database.

    I copied the backup files in the flash recovery area.

    I have another computer with windows server 2003 and Oracle 10 g even version. I copied the backup files of the first machine to the file of the Flash recovery area on the second computer.

    Now, I'm trying to restore the database from the first machine to the second machine.

    1. I created a new instance on second machice with the same name as in the First machine.
    2. I created a file password ORA as well.
    3 SET ORACLE_SID = < name of DB as it was the first machine >
    4 RMAN TARGET sys / < password given to the new pwd ORA file > @ < name DB > nocatalog
    5 SET DBID = < dbid of the old database >
    6 STARTUP NOMOUNT FORCE
    7 RESTORE SPFILE FROM PFILE "< new pfile file path >" "< path where the backup files are there >."
    8. CREATE UDUMP, BDUMP, CDUMP, PFILE ORADATA FILES when it is required;
    9. STOP IMMEDIATELY;
    10 STARTUP NOMOUNT PFILE = "< path to the newly created pfile > ';
    11 RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM "< backup file path >"
    12. ALTER DATABASE MOUNT;
    Everything works very well so far

    Now, my next step was

    13 RESTORE THE DATABASE;

    Then it gives error as: -.

    RMAN > restore database;

    From restoration to 20 November 08

    RMAN-06023: no backup or copy of datafile 1 found to restore

    First, I copied the Flash recovery area backup files, then I copied the files to "D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\database" as well. Because I did it in 9i, 9i I copied the backup files in the backup folder and while the RMAN restore successfully takes the file in this folder & restores the database. but in 10g RMAN is not to recognize the backup path. How can this problem be solved? Or is it a different problem that I don't get?

    Waiting for response...

    You say, backups are on drive D, but RMAN is waiting for the files on drive E. But backups is not found or planned and therefore duplication of "EXPIRED" status reports For the same reason, the restore fails. Either you have to provide the intended location or re-catalogue of backupsets to a new location.

  • Backup of the recovery file, but will not write (well tested) USB

    Yesterday ran backup file recovery in the HP Recovery Manager. Got to the end, but USB key was too small - had to cancel the program and buy another USB key last night.

    Today the program is completely but allow me not to click 'Next', so it will write to new (good) USB.

    Is there a file (log or something) that should be deleted, so I can get this backup done? How can this program be so simple that it does not recognize that it has already completed the backup file?

    Quite frustrated with that. Does anyone have a solution?

    Thank you

    Figured this out - FINALLY!

    Once the backup of the recovery file is complete, select the drive that you want to send to and GO!

    I had to manually some files (Mozilla Thunderbird) which had too long names for the file recovery program backup of backup files.

    Now the problem card Microsoft ISATAP.

  • The database recovery/restore failed with unexpected error 509

    Hello

    The database recovery/restore failed with unexpected error 509

    In the Event Viewer, I had this error SEVERAL times every second.  He goes absolutely crazy.

    I don't know what to do with it.

    I'm with Windows 8 Pro running on a very stable computer with 8gig of ram, plenty of hard drive space.  Each single drivers updated Windows Update.  Everything is really clean except this error in Event Viewer

    Svchost SRUJet (1624): database recovery/restore failed with unexpected-509 error.

    Task category: registration/recovery

    Esentutl /p /r tried / everything but nothing wrong was found with those

    Thanks for any help.

    Exactly the same problem, nothing Microsoft recommended was the cause, scannow and DISM commands are returned without error.

    So I went to the event viewer and scrolled down to find, when these errors began to occur. So I found a few entries initially saying things like: an attempt to move the file 'C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database\EDB.log' to 'C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database\EDB00008.log' failed indicating system 183 (0x000000b7) error: "cannot create a file when that file already exists.

    Then, I went to C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database\ and removed the files listed (e.g., EDB00008.log).

    Bingo, the errors will stop immediately.

  • Can we take a backup of database pending?

    Hello

    Can we take backup of database pending when the don't use no DataGuard? If Yes, can I restore that backup of my primary database?

    Oracle 11.2.0.3 Standard

    Kind regards

    Melo.

    Rafael Melo says:

    Jhon,

    Thank you for your quick response. I just did not understand clearly what that means "not being able to depend on RMAN to follow...» ». Please, can you explain that?

    OBS.: the first time that you intend to use on the eve of the database.

    Kind regards

    Melo - Br

    Think of the RMAN Repository. How one will distinguish between files that are part of the primary and which are part of the manual standby? In a Data Guard environment, he can, because you can save all db_unique_names. You do not have this feature with an old manual.

  • RMAN will remove backups within the recovery window

    Salvation;

    I didn't have idea on recovery_window

    recovery_window = > number of days in which the backups must be kept for purposes of recovery

    Backups within the recovery window can be removed or

    RMAN will remove backups within the recovery window?

    If you issue a DELETE, rman cannot stop or prevent you. It will allow you to delete the backups, even the last backup taken 1 minute ago, even when there is no other backup.

    The retention window only to rman control * auto * deletion of backups - backups obsolete because they are beyond the retention window.
