Backup policy

Hi all

Oracle 11g

My database size is 25 GB, me please advice on the best/suited my database backup policy.

Concerning
Nishant S

Of course for most it depends on daily transactions
You can take every Sunday full RMAN backup and an incremental backup every day

  • Incremental backup policy

    Hi experts,

    In my organization, we have 4 TB size of database. If we take a complete backup of it, will it take huge time. While we do intend to follow an incremental backup of this jet of RMAN database, my question is, what kind of policy of incremental backup, we follow. I am new to an incremental backup. Yet, I was followed political only full backup.

    (1) we must / should follow political not backup incremental cumulative GOLD diffrential.

    (2) who is stupid or why (cumulative backup incremental GOLD diffrential)

    (3) how to track level in both cases...

    Reg,

    I would prefer cumulative incremental but if the daily a cumulative incremental size is large, you could make an additional bonus.  The disadvantages of additional premium are

    (a) If you lose an additional intermediate differential, you cannot restore the database past the point (unless you have backups, archivelog separated through all database backups)

    (b) it may take more time to restore and recover using additional bonus you would need to restore and apply backups more

    See http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmcncpt.htm#BRADV109

    Note: Level 2 is is more documented.  Level 2 backups are actually incremental differential.

  • Understand RMAN until the time - why a backup always kept.

    Hi all

    I take more than one database system and is now looking to its backup policy.

    The system performs full backup every Monday at level 0 and level 1 differential accrued daily. As well the full or incremental backup runs at 00:40

    The backup retention policy is set to 1 day.

    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO 1 DAY RECOVERY WINDOW;

    Every day, there is a call from script "delete_obsolete.sh" who works at full 00:25.

    In the script, there are 3 lines that follow below

    cross-checking of backup;

    delete expired backup noprompt.

    remove obsolete until 'sysdate-6 ";

    T1) so I think that, with the 'until TIME', he will crush the retention policy and only delete previous backup then ' sysdate - 6 "- right?".

    However in RMAN summary list, assuming today ' today is 09/04/2015 (Friday) and the delete_obsolete.sh script is run at 00:25 hours that day.

    The script removes actually backs up earlier then sysdate - 6, equivalent to 29 Aug 15 00:25:00

  • RMAN-05021 configuration pending retention policy

    Hi all.

    Running Oracle on Linux (x 64) 11.2.0.2; single node instance.

    We have the following configuration:

    bvlive (PRIMARY)
    bvstby2 (STANDBY)

    We currently have a 21-day retention policy, and backup on the waiting space begins to be a problem.

    At first, I thought I could reconfigure this on the day before - but RMAN will not allow this:

    STANDBY TIME:
    RMAN> CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 14 days;

    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
    RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
    RMAN-03002: failure of configure command at 10/15/2012 10:09:50
    RMAN-05021: this configuration cannot be changed for a BACKUP or STANDBY control file
    Which makes sense when I think about it. I saw this thread retention policy is not configured , but get different results:

    PRIMARY:
    RMAN> configure retention policy to recovery window of 14 days;

    old RMAN configuration parameters:
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 21 DAYS;
    new RMAN configuration parameters:
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 14 DAYS;
    new RMAN configuration parameters are successfully stored

    RMAN> show all;

    RMAN configuration parameters for database with db_unique_name BVLIVE are:
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 14 DAYS;
    STANDBY TIME:
    RMAN> SHOW ALL;

    RMAN configuration parameters for database with db_unique_name BVSTBY2 are:
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 21 DAYS;
    Which also makes sense; so I am not the original poster solved his problem. I saw a few discussions about this which involve:

    1. standby stop
    2. on the primary retention policy configuration
    3. take a backup controlfile elementary school
    4 copy transversely to the waiting
    5 restart the day before using backup controlfile

    But then, this seems to be for the CAR, which we do not.

    It dawned on me that I can use the option KEEP until when you take backups, but encountered; ORA-19811: cannot have files in DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST attrbuts Dungeon (i.e. I can't use DUNGEON and store the backups in the FRA).

    Can someone please advise on the best way to go down the retention period in the waiting, ideally without having to rebuild the day before from scratch?

    Thank you

  • Difficulties to download apps on new iPad

    Hi people,

    This afternoon, I received my new iPad and all is well in the introduction and in transferring my old settings iPad and active applications.

    However, now that I have more storage space, I decided to go to the iTunes store and download apps I had bought, but deleted to reclaim space.  The problem is that many of these applications is more resident saved on my Mac because of the new Apple backup policy not apps, music, etc., which are stored in the cloud or purchased on the App Store on the assumption that they can be easily downloaded and would otherwise space on a Mac.

    In iTunes, I have my iPad showing on the left and a list of all the applications belonging to me in the Middle, and the screens of my iPad on the right.  I chose one of these apps, Devonthink To Go, you click the button install, what has changed to "Install", then clicked on the Sync button.

    Which brought up the following error message:

    This same error message appeared quite a few other apps uninstalled:

    Can someone explain what is the problem and how it can be solved?  I paid a lot of money for a number of applications that no longer want to be part of my iPad.

    Thank you

    Hello, Tod! Quick questions:

    What iPad is your new?

    What iOS it works? Update you the most recent 9.3.1?

    Have you tried to go on the App Store on your actual iPad, looking for the desired application and then install from the App Store?

  • GUID or not for use with time machine

    I am about to format a new external hard drive to save the backups and other things. On the road I can use for Time Machine, but not now. I wonder whether or not to use setting GUID in the form for the reader, because it will allow me to make a disc bootable option. Is there a reason NOT to use the GUID + OS X extended journaled on any drive that you reformat? (I ask because it is an option. A few posts on this site I get the idea that unless I want a windows or linux on readable disk, which I did not, GUID is the way to go. I don't know if I chose actually on another X - HD I got recently and am using for backups TM. I don't know, because I tried to make a bootable partition / clone and was not able to boot from this partition.)

    Secondly, I think to partition the hard drive into two GB 1 pieces in case I want to use 1 semester for backups online TM subsequently and so keep those separated from other files. Is it advisable or not? (One of the advantages are the possibility to delete backups TM: you just reformat the partition where they live.)

    I could use the GUID for a partition and not on the other or just for the two (it seems that the GUID is the recommended way to get Mac products). *

    Thanks in advance.

    * Assume that you use a GUID. Is there a problem with the help of a hard drive without formatting?

    Since you're using ONLY this disc with your Mac, then GUID partition map and HFS + filesystem (OS X Extended (journaled)) to a volume of Time Machine

    * Assume that you use a GUID. Is there a problem with the help of a hard drive without formatting?

    Why do bad for yourself.

    It is very good.  In addition to El Capitan OS X will be ONE partition a disk GUID, it's another reason for the use of the GUID.

    NOTE: If you want to put other files on this disk, will you of have saved them in another location.  And all THE data that you care, or would have cost a lot of time to recreate should be use 3-2-1. backup policy.

    3 copies (the original is the 1st copy)

    utility for 2 different devices to backup with 2 different so that a bug in one does not affect the other, and a faulty device does not affect the other.

    1 copy off site, so that you always have your data even after a natural disaster or theft

    And put the data and backup on the same disk is a "No No", as the loss of the aircraft loses the original and the backup at the same time.

  • 2808 LAG for use with VMware ESXi and Linux collage

    I posted the month last about setting up my work with groups LAG http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/network-switches/f/866/t/19537080.aspx servers (I'll effectively implementing implement this Saturday)

    I decided to buy a 2808 for my ESXi server get more aggregated connections to my staff iSCSI Linux server but now I'm worried I might have made a mistake to buy the 2808.

    After looking in the manual before I realized I could have been mistakenly assuming that the 2808 had STP and LACP, as I can't find LACP anywhere in the PDF file. I guess that the configuration of my Linux machine for 802.3ad is out (a hope to make mode 4), so now for the configuration of my house, I wonder (* 1 *) that I have to configure my VMware NIC team like and what mode of binding should I use on my Linux host? As for the section at the top (my working configuration) (* 2 *) I don't know what to do about the road other than the leave as 'route based on originating virtual port ID "? (This is how our other data centers are configured, but I'm waiting for my admin network as agglomerates ESXi hosts are configured with the channels of port on our cisco switches)

    For the House, I want to try to increase the bandwidth by using three NICs in each server, I was hoping that it works:
    VMware: Route of IP hash function?
    w/Linux: balance-alb?

    -VMware:
    Before you begin:

    -Linux:
    * Descriptions of bonding modes *.
    + Mode 0 balance-rr: Round-robin policy: transmit packets in the sequential order of the first available through the last high school. This mode provides load balancing and fault tolerance.

    + 1 active-backup mode: Active-backup policy: only one slave in the link is active. A different slave becomes active if and only if, the active slave fails. MAC address of the binding is visible from the outside on a single port (NIC) to avoid confusion between the switch. This mode provides fault tolerance. The first option affects the behavior of this mode.

    + 2 balance-xor mode: XOR policy: transmit based [(adresse MAC XOR avec destination MAC traiterait de source) modulo County slave]. This selects the slave even for each destination MAC address. This mode provides load balancing and fault tolerance.

    + 3 broadcast mode: broadcasting policy: transmits everything on all slave interfaces. This mode provides fault tolerance.

    + Mode 4 802.3ad: IEEE 802.3ad dynamic aggregation of links. Creates aggregation groups who share the same speed and duplex settings. Use all the slaves in the active aggregator according to the 802.3ad specification.

    -Prerequisite:
    -1.Ethtool support in the base drivers to retrieve the speed and duplex of each slave.
    -Switch 2.A which takes care of IEEE 802.3ad dynamic aggregation of links. Most of the switches will require some type of configuration to activate 802.3ad mode.

    + Mode 5 balance-tlb: Adaptive load balancing transmission: Channel link that doesn't require any special switch support. Outgoing traffic is distributed according to the intensity of the current (relative speed) on each slave. Inbound traffic is received by the current slave. If the receiving slave fails, another slave takes over the MAC address of the failed receiving slave.

    -Prerequisite:
    -1.Ethtool support in the base drivers to retrieve the speed of each slave.

    + 6 balance-alb mode: Adaptive load balancing: includes balance-tlb plus receive balancing (rlb) for IPV4 traffic and doesn't require any special switch support. Receive load balancing is achieved by ARP negotiation. Link driver intercepts the ARP replies sent by the local system on their way and replaces the hardware address of source with the unique hardware address of one of the slaves in the bond as different counterparts use different physical addresses for the server.

    PS. http://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/shared-content/data-sheets/en/Documents/dell-powerconnect-2800-series-spec_sheet.pdf said that the 2800 series supports LACP, so if I'm worried about anything on my iSCSI side slap me please in the face, but I guess even in this case, I'm still not sure how to configure the ESXi host because it does not support LACP without vSphere and my original configuration is a free version , so I have no web vSphere management needed to make the LACP allow the change.

    Not sure if it is of no use: example configuration of EtherChannel / switches control protocol LACP (Link Aggregation) with ESXi/ESX and Cisco/HP (1004048), but that's where I was to base the choice on IP hash from.

    It must have the support of layer 3 to achieve IP hash, IP addressing is a 3-layer technology, so a 6200 series or higher or the soon to be released N3000 series.

    Make sure your firewall is on and Security Center Windows to check and make sure that everything is green, if there is something red or yellow then see what he wants. Make sure that you use the version of anti-virus update and update your Windows and antivirus. If you use try Wi - Fi to enable WPA2 or WEP 128, see the manual of the wireless modem.

    As AntiVirus, you can use Microsoft Security Essentials for free
    Scan with your antivirus complete and remove the threat. use of strong passwords for your Windows login, create strong passwords have look at:
    https://www.Microsoft.com/protect/fraud/passwords/checker.aspx

    Try to go to the BIOS Setup and disable the boot with CD and network and make sure you boot from the hard drive is turn on and rest are disable. (Check your BIOS manufactor to aid)

    If you are using Windows Vista Ultimate using Bitlocker

    Remember, if you choose password of Windows to the top, because if he has lost or forgotten, we cannot help you. In Windows, you can backup password.

    Remmember back up your data before password and put weekly or daily backup policy that if something is wrong you have backup (it is a good idea but a backup external hard drive). Windows Vista have already great backup feature.

    Hello

    I watch a Dataguard involving a physical database. This node standby, have not been recovered for a long time, an a for most of the archive logs are not present in the discs and neither tap on.

    I want it back with one of the RMAN backups I have taken recently (last week) in the main node, under the current backup policy. And my question is:

    What is the best way to recovery/restore with RMAN full backup? must be made in the way like when restore us a RMAN backup in a different database in another different server where the backup RMAN was taken? -I mean, as if the target database was not part of an infraestrctucture of DataGuard.

  • Feature of OSB with ASM managed flash_recovery_area

    Is there a way to backup ASM, use of Datasets OSB file system?
    Sound like our RMAN backups are located in the path: ++ BACKUPSETS/FRA/PROD +
    Next, I would like to back up this path using the backup of filesystem OSB? I get an error message:

    "the following problems have been detected in dataset /Level_0_FS_Bkp:14: path invalid include + BACKUPSETS/FRA/PROD include the path.

    Have you created a database of the selectors of backup storage? He implemented a policy allowing to define what the media and readers to use for the backup. You can create a selector for backup storage of data base for all databases, or have several per database. You can create a policy for what go full backups of media and another for incremental backups etc. OSB will then automatically to the backup policy.

    Regarding the duplication scenario, I'd do the following:

    (1) create a family of supports for duplicate records IE off site
    (2) create a replication strategy that defines when the tapes must be duplicated and which family of media etc. IE dup1
    (3) create a schedule for duplication volume analysis
    (4) create a rotation policy for how you want the band moved between sites (you must have created an office (s) where will be found tapes)
    (5) create a scan of rotation schedule
    (6) a partner policy of duplication with your media families original IE level0_family (note a political split may be associated with multiple media families)
    (7) associate the rotation policy with the media family, that you created for your tapes off-site IE off site

    Now, you'll have to management the basic strategies for the bands... so it is automated. This is described more in detail in:

  • Should I consider index tablespace too?

    Hello

    We have 6 Tablespaces that represent DATA and 6 other TABLESPACES which represent the INDEX, we db backup using RMAN.

    In order to cover ourself completely against the loss of a single table, I intend to perform the backup of data by Data Pump (expdp/impdp).

    The question I have is... what I have to do an EXPDP of Tablespaces INDEX also? If this isn't the case, then when I go to restore DATA STORAGE spaces on my test server, how can ensure me that the index entries are created automatically in the TS of the INDEX, so that data access is faster?

    Concerning

    Learner

    Dear learner1,

    This thread is going in recovery and the backup policy Manager, but I'll try to address your concerns.

    You can always use the flashback of the Oracle 10 g database feature (if it is already enabled) and you can use the recyclebin in flashback the paintings from before the fall.

    If there is a critical table or diagram of your database, you can use the datapump or the classic export for the operation of separate backup utility. However, as damorgan has already stated that the most reliable way to backup/restore/recover the database is the RMAN. This does not mean that you should not use other means as cold, utility backup etc export.

    You can separate the index and storage of data in your database and when you lost the index tablespace, you can recreate the indexes and storage space if you already have the DDL of the relevant indices. Restoration of databases with the impdp will not recover the index tablespaces because you did not save the front index tablespaces.

    Also, we have an application that uses separate storage for the data and the indexes and I had a problem once with a data index file and he was not very tall, so I simply removed the tablespace, data files, indexes and recreate the tablespace, index and its partitions because I had the index DDL. Of course, this is not connected with storage of data. If you lose the tablespace data, your data is lost and the recovery should be used.

    Hope that helps.

    If you compare your first post and this one. There is a big difference. There is a clear distinction between missing redo log and corrupt redo log.

    You can't delete something that does not exist, but you can clear something that exists but which is dirty. ;)

  • My family in Windows XP system restore is disabled by group policy. The system cannot me to enalbe this function, despite I have a partition of my hard drive to store all backup

    When I open the System Properties dialog box, System Restore is checked, saying: she is disabled by group policy, and the system you cannot activate this option. I got a partition dedicated to my justo of hard disk to store backups and create Points of restoration with a capacity of 10 GB. How can I solve this problem?

    If you see things like this:

    You do not have sufficient security privileges to restore your system.
    The System Restore tab is missing from the my computer properties.
    System Restore has been disabled by group policy.  To turn on system restore, contact your domain administrator.
    The System Restore tab is available, but the turn off System Restore (disabled by Group Policy) box is grayed out.
    The task manager has been disabled by your system administrator.
    The registry editor has been disabled by your system administrator.
    The task manager has been disabled by group policy.
    The registry editor has been disabled by group policy.
    The command prompt has been disabled by your administrator.  Press a key to continue...
    The operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.  Please contact your system administrator.
    The "Run" option is missing from the start menu.
    The option "Log off."... ' is missing from the Start Menu.

    The usual advice are something in the sense of "something has been disabled in the group policy...". ", and it is probably true that something has been disabled, but you know what something is and what it takes to do about it.

    If you are using XP Home Edition, you will get away with advice to use the Group Policy Editor, because there is no Group Policy Editor in XP Home and that really doesn't tell you where to look in group policy, even if you run the Group Policy Editor.

    You need a complete solution that works for all versions of XP and requires no hunting around in the Group Policy Editor or registry to find where things are that have been disabled.

    Unless you have disabled these things on purpose, chances are good that your system has a malware infection.  The malware knows what tools you use to try to find and remove, for the malware disables the things you are more likely to consume and prevents them from running if you can't find the malware and remove it.

    If your system has this kind of affliction, all malicious software tools you currently use or have used failed to protect your system so that you can expand your horizons malware detection and prevention to prevent these kinds of afflictions in the first place.

    The malware will be happy you trick into thinking that you need to so something drastic to fix your system - as a facility repair, system restore point or a total reinstallation of XP.  This is what it would be like you, but these measures are not necessary.

    You must solve the immediate problem of the tools does not, then scan your system for malware when you are finished.

    No matter what kind of malware you've used analytical tools, they are unlikely to solve this problem, because they cannot tell if the changes made to your system have been on purpose (you or an administrator who makes them) or some malware changed them, so the analysis tools will let these things alone (it's usually a good thing).

    If your system is afflicted in this way, there are probably other things that also do not work - like the Task Manager, the registry, System Restore and command prompt Editor, so fix them all at once even if you have not discovered they are broken again.

    These commands from registry removes the registry entries that are stop opening programs.  Although the registry entries do not exist, these commands are safe to run and will work for all versions of XP.

    Before making any changes to your registry, back up the registry with this free and popular tool:

    http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/ERUNT.html

    Open Notepad to create a new text file:

    Click Start, run and enter in the box:

    notebook

    Click OK to open a new Notepad file.

    Copy and paste the following lines of text into the new Notepad file.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
    "DisableTaskMgr" = -.
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
    "DisableRegistryTools" = -.
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System]
    "DisableCMD" = -.
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem\\\]
    "DisableTaskMgr" = -.
    [HKEY_USERS\.default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
    "DisableTaskMgr" = -.
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
    "DisableCAD" = DWORD: 00000000
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore]
    "DisableConfig" = -.
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore]
    "DisableSR" = -.
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "NoRun" = -.
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "NoRun" = -.
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "NoClose" = -.
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "NoClose" = -.
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "NoSetTaskbar" = -.

    Save the new text file with extension .reg on your desktop or somewhere you can remember with a name you can remember, something like:

    enableit.reg

    After you save the file, close Notepad.

    Locate the file enableit.reg on your desktop and double-click it.

    Alternatively, you can right-click on the enableit.reg file, choose open with... and select the registry editor.

    Answer in the affirmative to the question... Are you sure you want to add the information in the registry?

    You should then see a message that information has been registered in the register.

    Reboot your system and test.

    You can delete the enableit.reg file when you are finished.

    If the registry editor has also been disabled, we first fix (not a problem).

    Given that your system has or has had an infection, follow up with this:
    Perform scans for malware, and then fix any problems:
    Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:
    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
    They can be uninstalled later if you wish.

    For the benefit of Microsoft technical support engineers, here are some ideas offered in the past which does NOT help with this issue:

    Safe Mode boot
    Last good known Configuration startup
    A clean boot
    Sfc/scannow in running (or trying to run)

  • Problems with the retention policy that removes a Cumulative incremental backup

    Hello

    I have following two scripts:

    1 RMAN script runs the weekend and made a full backup of level 0.

    2 RMAN script works on a daily basis and a level 1 Cumulative backup.

    at the end of each script I delete noprompt obsolete redundancy 1; (I don't need a single copy of local disk)

    My problem is that it seems that remove obsolete handles only level 0 (full) backups.

    for example, my goal is:

    Saturday = > level 0 + delete obsolete (level 0 + all the incremental)

    Sunday = > obsolete level 1 cumulative + delete

    Monday = > level 1 cumulative + Delete obsolete (backup Sunday)

    etc...

    What happens in reality is rather that remove obsolete Monday, completely ignores Sunday 1 cumulative level.

    and he keeps all the up to the next level 0 backup

    its actually covered in the Oracle Documentation:

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmconfb.htm#BRADV8400

    but it's just not make sense.

    in order to have redundancy of 1 copy I only need to level 0 + unique Level 1 cumulative backup.

    I don't have level 0 + all level 1 cumulative backups between full backups.

    so my question is there a way to make the retention policy to keep only the last level 1 cumulative?

    It's true window of 1 day recovery ignores several backups of cumulativ made the same day as being obsolete. Regular retention strategies rman probably cannot provide what you want. You can manually identify the backupset and delete them or change of cumulativ backups to incremental backups.

    That would save the space of several cumulative backups and and would work even for several backups on the same day. Of course with the disadvantage that you need all of the incremental backups and your recovery time may be longer

  • RMAN delete policy has not worked and not delete outdated backup

    Hi all

    I am facing a problem this obsolete backup is not delete unwanted backup.

    I used to take level 0 once weekly and cumulative incremental in 3 times a day.

    I have 2 TB hard drive, every week, I used the backup from command remove obsolete based file can delete based on my redundancy strategy 1.

    The previous week it works fine and deleted obsolete backup based on the deletion policy. but this week when I try to use the delete obsolete command, it is not removed and the hard drive is always full and I couldn't take later backup.

    It's live server, I need to take the free space on the hard drive. Please help me.

    You will find details of error that I met in the log file.
