  Whenever I run a computer backup program, I find that the backup is never completed.  I wonder if the computer auto sleep mode disrupts the ongoing backup process.

  I was getting the same problem and changed the backup parameters does not not not libraries. After I installed Windows 7 I had removed all default libraries and replace them with symbolic links to my NAS drive that is be the same drive as my backup was put in place to save on.

  Once, I removed the libraries from the list of the items to back up, it worked.

  I have a 500 GB drive to RAW files that I would switch to "cold storage" so to speak to make room for this years jobs.

  I want to keep the folder structure, as well as all the RAW settings.  What is confusing is the idea of the images and the catalog separate backups.

  If I just save RAW files but to delete the files from the catalog, it seems that I loose my settings.

  If this shows export to DNG files?  If I export files DNG how going to keep my file structure?

  Sorry I wasn't clear before. By 'stack file' I meant files Panel. I sometimes forget that "stack" has a special meaning in Lightroom!

  The records that you see in the folder Panel in Lightroom represent folders on the disk, so if you move or rename them in Lightroom they are moved or renamed on disc as well. However if you move or rename them OUTSIDE of Lightroom, it loses track of them. What you don't want, it's to finish saying Lightroom where 87 individual records are after you move them all to the cold storage.

  So... If the files you want to archive are contained in a folder (for example ' library of Lightroom 2010'), you can do a right click in the folder Panel and choose "Add Parent Folder" which will then add the parent folder in the control panel and automatically organize its subfolders inside.  Once you have physically moved the parent folder to your storage location of cold that you shouldn't have to say Lightroom where this parent folder is, and he should be able to spot that subfolders are full of pictures he thought was missing.

  I'm working on implementing a backup procedure appropriate as recommended by most of the experts on this forum. But when you try to save a large amount of data, I get this error message:
