BEFSX41 v2.1 vs DPC3008

Use the BEFSX41 for years.  You need to upgrade to a new cable modem, so I bought the DPC3008.  The router does not seem to connect with the cable modem.  They are compatible, or do I have to buy a new router also?

If the new is the only choice, cable is preferred and recommendations are welcome.

Any router will be compatible with any cable mode. All you got to do is to make sure that a computer has been able to get online when it is connected to the modem and this mac address clone has been enabled on the router. Knows more about interest cable installation, check the link below.

    I have a Linksys CM3008 DICSIS 3.0 cable modem. I understand he superceeds the Cisco/Linksys DPC3008.

It sets up quickly with my Comcast/Xfinity account.  Appearently, it is already recognized by Comcast.  The technology took my Linksys CM3008 serial number and address MAC of CM and in a few minutes, she was online.

The CM3008 has the LED colors (low vertical orientation above):

Blue Ethernet flashing (when live data)

    Yellow status

    Send blue upstream

    Receive blue downstream

    Yellow power

It is small and harder to stay in place with the coaxial cable connected.  Said, it's a great.  They listed a Linksys

Models CM3016/CM3024 which looks to the Cisco/Linksys DPC3008.

I respectfully disagree (on Linksys being mickey-mouse society).

I have the Linksys EA8500 router and now the Linksys CM3008 cable modem.  Linksys EA8500 has not been easy to install using the web www.linksyssmartwifi.com access.  It has an access point that follows updates and availability.

I replaced the Ciscio DPC3008 (DEPARTURE) provided Comcast with cable modem, Linksys CM3008.  I didn't do wrire down CM3008 serial number and MAC address of the CM.  I plugged the modem that is identical to the Comcast Cisco DPC3008.  I called Comcast tech and they ping the new modem, downloaded the firmware and I was online within 20 minutes.

I tried to access the modem through the original DPC3008 of Cisco (does not work).  I called Linksys tech support and they said the new modem does not follow the data but the router doesn't work.  I left it there.

I am happy with the Linksys EA8500 router and the CM3008.  Only complaint is the CM3008 cable modem is small (the size of a deck of cards).  Connector kept rigid cable modem twisted so I used a small bungee cord of the to attach to the roiuter.

I noticed that my Table of newspaper into my Linksys BEFSX41 shows I'm get hammered by incoming traffic on port 53 (DNS), 40 per second. If I don't have a rule to leave in my LAN are these abandoned? My outgoing access is slow and I'm getting a lot of errors, couold these applications be more overwhelming the router?

    YAY!

Update firmware for 1.52.16.4-(#3). The port of DNS relay vulnerability fixed.

It's MAGIC. A router headed for the trash can work perfectly.

  • BEFSX41 Installation

Hello, this is my first thread on this forum.  Thank you for taking the time to consider my question.

I had just bought a BEFSX41 router wired yesterday, and I'm running a matter of "looping" the installation from the installation CD provided.

It seems to be very well installation up to step 6, which is when he opens a window that says "enter your password.  default password is admin".  So I type in admin, click on next and let him do it, he takes over.  But the problem is, once the loading reaches 100%, the password window opens again.  Again, I will enter admin, click Next, and it will reach 100% once again, only to bring up the window password again.  the "loopback"...

    Any suggestions?

I am an electrical engineer, and home networks still frustrate me.

    Thank you!

If you try to configure your router with the Setup disk, you can delete the setup of your computer disk and configure your router manually. Before you manually configure your router, press and hold the reset button for 60 seconds... Release the reset button... Unplug the power cable from your router, wait 60 seconds and reconnect the power cable...

  • BEFSX41 router will not let me delete the DNS entries

I'm trying to set up a BEFSX41 router that lies behind a cable modem Motorola SB 5120.
Somehow it now shows the DNS entries in the basic configuration page. Comcast advises me to zero all these entries. When I make the attempt, a message appears saying the entry is not valid, and when I close the entrance warning comes back. The router is configured to obtain its IP address automatically of the SB 5120. This could be the cause of this behavior?

I suggest that reset you your router and reconfigure all your router settings from scratch, reset your router should solve your problem.

Press and hold the button of reset for 30 seconds... Release the reset button... Unplug the power cable from your router, wait 30 seconds and reconnect the power cable... Now re - configure your router...

  • BEFSX41 1.52.16 ignores the DNS settings

    Hi all

I think I have found quite a serious problem (for me) with the latest firmware BEFSX41 (v 1.52.16.4).

All first Base: the router is connected directly to a cable modem and gets it's IP through DHCP. My ISP uses DNS servers who harvest unknown DNS names and redirects them to a server which offers suggested sites. The biggest problem is that it can return a public IP address when you are looking for a name for a server in my VPN and causes all my VPN traffic get routed to public IP addresses.

The solution is to configure the router to use (sometimes provided by my ISP) DNS servers that do not have this behavior. This worked great by setting these servers on the settings page in the BEFSX v1.52.10.

The problem occurred when I updated the firmware (hoping it would fix more problems than he solved) to version 1.52.16. The new version now does not take into account the configured DNS settings and always use the assigned DNS servers DHCP protocol.

My question is therefore of two parts:

    1. Where can I find a (reliable) download of the 1.52.10 firmware, so I can get my VPN works again? Or is there a better version of firmware I should use that would have this problem fixed?
    2. What is the best way to ensure Linksys is aware of the issue, so that I can get fixed in the next update?

    Thank you!

According to what features are most important to you, new firmware on the router is certainly not always better!

Here is a place where to try for your BEFSX41:

    http://BEFSX41.flogator.org/doku.php?id=stock

Anyone no matter what firmware for the BEFSR41 v4.3 that allows traffic logging feature to actually exit traffic data?

    See you soon!

  • Update firmware to BEFSX41

    Hello

I'm not very experienced with networking, so I can be easily confused. I've been reading on this forum points stipulating that after the upgrade of the firmware on a router you need to re - configure the router and re - configure your connection. I just downloaded and installed the firmware for the BEFSX41 (1.52.16.4) was last updated. When installation is complete, my network connection dropped. Then I had an icon 'search ip address' in my notification bar. The connection then completed and my network seems to work as it should. When I check the configuration of the router screen, it shows the new version of the firmware. Do I still need to re - configure the router? I'm a little confused by all this. I have Comcast cable for my ISP. Can someone explain this to me? Thank you.

    Mike

Do not re - the router if it is not working properly.

If you encounter any problem with the connection, then reset the router and reconfigure.

  • The BEFSX41 firmware update did not finish

I'm trying to update the firmware of a BEFSX41 wired router since version 1.43.3 (apparently the first review after initial release) at 1.52.15 (I found later), but I can't seem to finish. I use a Mac with all the latest versions of the OS, Safari and Firefox. When I use Safari to start the upgrade, it is s until the point where it says "Please wait." "Setup will take a few minutes _" and nothing else happens after that, even after waiting 30 minutes or more. When I use Firefox it happens the same message "Please wait", then a few minutes later Firefox displays an error message "missed connection: connection to the server was reset while the page is loading." The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again. « ; No tent again does not help.

    Any ideas?

Hold the phone! I found a utility TFTP which is written for Mac OS and is specifically designed to manage devices that require a password: MacTFTP Client 1.2 of MacTechnologies Consulting (shareware; $12 after 30 days trial). It worked perfectly, and I finally managed to update the firmware.

BTW, the other two solutions I found by Googling "tftp linksys mac" (without the quotation marks) were remove the password in the router configuration pages, or add the password (as well as some other verbiage) at the end of the TFTP 'put' control, but none of those that worked for me.

  • BEFSX41 - Blocked Services in restrict access tab is grayed out

Blocked Services restrict access tab is grayed out, so I've updated to the current version of the firmware:
    Release date: 14/08/2009
    Current firmware: Version 1.52.16.4
    Product part No.: BEFSX41 v1/v2/v2.1

Hung services is always grayed out.

I have tried Linksys chat, but they do not help this serial number is "out of warranty". So I'm looking a way enable the blocked Services feature. .  Does anyone know how to activate it?  Thank you.

Are you sure that you create an authorization rule and not a deny rule. Hung services are available that allow for rules, i.e. you want to allow internet traffic except some blocked services. A deny rule will block all internet. In the demo UI I choose blocked services if I select "allow".

  • Linksys BEFSX41 wired router - fixation using OpenDNS only

Question: I want to configure wired Linksys BEFSX41 router so that clients must use OpenDNS.  I've already implemented the DNS1 and DNS2 with appropriate OpenDNS ip addresses. 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Basically, the requirement must allow the OpenDNS DNS server above addresses and refuse all other DNS server addresses. Is it possible to configure the router to do this or should I find another solution?

    Thank you

N ° the BEF does not have a CLI. You can only configure it through the web interface. And there is no option to configure something like this.

  • Cascading the WRT54G2 BEFSX41 lan - LAN. No Internet access.

My kids each received a ipod touch so I thought I would add a WRT54G2 to my existing wired network that uses a BEFSX41 as the gateway device to provide access to the internet.

I followed instructions from Linksys lan - lan waterfall, defining the WRT54G2 as IP 192.168.1.2 as the BEFSX41 is 192.168.1.1 and connecting port 1 of the BEFSX41 to port 1 of the WRT54G2.

Ipods to connect to the WRT54G2 and I can access the control panels for each router to my computer (XP) using their assigned IP addresses.

But the iPod can not connect to the internet and the WRT54G2 cannot ping external IPs.

Where my Setup seems to differ the intructions of Linksys, is they claim all the WRT54G2 to use "Automatic Configuration - DHCP" as the type of Internet connection while the BEFSX41 has disabled DHCP and all the network devices have a manually assigned IP address.

Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

    Guessed it.

I had enable DHCP on for the BEFSX41 and set the IP address of the DHCP beginning to a value greater than the static IP already in use.

IPods are now cruise the ' net.

  • Router WRT320N to a wired BEFSX41 router connection problem

Hello, I never thought it would be so difficult. I have problems to connect to a router (WRT320N) so it will be on the same network as my other cable firewall router (BEFSX41). The wireless router works fine because it connects to the internet via the BEFSX41 router. However, the two routers do not see each other and I can't connect two computers, a wired computer, the other laptop wireless to the same network.

Wired BEFSX41 router uses 192.168.1.1 IP address and the router WRT320N wireless uses 192.168.0.1 IP address.

Don't know what other information you need. I hope you can solve this problem for me.

    Thank you

    Mike

For file sharing, it is always better to maintain the network in the same subnet... Connect the BEFSX41 on the Ethernet Port of the router WRT. (LAN-to-LAN connection)... Visit this link for that. If the IP address of the main router is 192.168.1.1 then, change the 2nd router's ip address is 192.168.1.2.

Make sure that file and printer sharing is enabled... Also, make sure the computer are in the same workgroup...
Default workgroup in Windows Vista has been renamed to WORKING group. In Windows XP, the default workgroup name is MSHOME...

  • BEFSX41 - gateway to gateway OK, but no remote desktop?

    Hello

First of all, I have searched these forums and elsewhere, but have not found anything specific to my situation.

    Here is my configuration:

Linksys BEFSX41 with a Tunnel from gateway to gateway put in place for a Netgear FVG318.  VPN tunnel, great work!

My BEFSX41 is actually connected to a 2Wire router from of AT & T DSL.  With this router to router configuration, the BEFSX41 is on the 2Wire DHCP in the demilitarized zone.  All machines connected directly to the 2Wire router accompany on DHCP 192.168.1.x addresses.  All machines that are under the BEFSX41 are static IP with 192.168.2.x addresses.

There is no port forwarding on the 2Wire router.  On the BEFSX41 I set up port forwarding port 3389 as static machines 192.168.2.x.  Windows Remote Desktop to connect just fine in-house withiin the 192.168.2.x IPs.  However, from the outside, Windows Remote Desktop is not connecting.  Am I missing something?  From my understanding, as the BEFSX41 is on the DMZ, and port forwarding is established, shouldn't this work?  Or if I totally missed the concept of VPN with the fact because it's VPN'ed, I can't Office remotely only when in the VPN tunnel?

Please forgive my ignorance, I am competent, but still a newb at this stuff.

    Best,

    JReX

Answering my own post - I just had to make sure it was TCP and not UDP (default). DUH. Problem solved.

  • BEFSX41 mgmnt

Happending something weird to my router for 3 years.

Documentation says to connect the modem cable to the WAN port and connect the PC (s) in one of ports 1-4. When I do that, I can't access the internet OR manage the router via a browser. BUT, if I connect the cable modem to one of the 4 ports1 and PC to one of the other ports 1-4, internet is available. In any case, the management of the router is not possible "connection timed out").

I set the router; Reset the cable modem. reset the PC, disabled firewall. The cables are OK. PC = TCP/IP is set to pick up the IP automatically. Router = Ditto. Router is BEFSX41 V2 Australian edition.

    Solutions accepted with gratitude.

    Ted

Connect the WAN port on routers on the cable modem.

Perform a hard reset of your router by holding the reset button for 30 seconds and then removing the power for 10 seconds and then reapply power to the router.

Connect a network cable between the routers LAN 1 port to your computer network port.

Check that your computer is configured to obtain an IP address automatically.  Restart your computer.

If your cable is configured to distribute IP addresses, you should now have Internet.  Otherwise, your should already know that you need to manually assign an IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS settings you can get from your ISP.

Do this by accessing the router by opening your browser and type address http://192.168.1.1/ box and then press ENTER.

The main screen of routers should appear and you should be able to type in the settings for the internet.  Save your manual settings and you should now have the Internet.

    Good luck!
