BIOS and Firmware update

Am I wrong in assuming that no firmware and BIOS updates are needed for my blade servers as part of the ESX updates?

Mike

You are wrong to assume that. You should always apply BIOS and updates the firmware for your hardware.

If problems exist, then try to upgrade with the appropriate firmware listed in the driver version Vista.

Some of the improvements will work and others cannot.  It is unfortunate but it is like that between Vista and Windows 7.

But... If everything works well, change the drivers and/or firmware and invite trouble.

  • Time to update the BIOS and firmware of remote management?

I'll put up a 'new' ThinkServer RD630 (2954A6U). It was purchased for a project that never happened, and we are now dry and reuse to replace an old Office Server. The current firmware versions are:

    • BIOS: 2.05
    • ME: 2.1.5.73
    • BMC 1.7
    • IPMI 2.0

Page 61 of the User Guide ThinkServer says, "update the BIOS on your server only if the new BIOS version specifically solves a problem you have. We don't recommend updates to the BIOS for servers that do not need. [...]"

As far as I know, we have no problems. The system starts fine and runs Windows Server 2012 well enough.

    HERE'S MY QUESTION:

Should I update the BIOS and firmware IMM (remote management) to the current version? Are there hidden problems, security issues or other concerns that it is worth?

Other indicators of initial configuration that you can share with a new admin would be much appreciated, too! Thank you.

With the help of the Lenovo Support, I was able to fix my problem where I couldn't get to the menu of the BIOS of the 630 RD (in F1) and all I saw was a cursor on the screen. I describe the procedure in detail here:

    https://forums.Lenovo.com/T5/ThinkServer-rack-mounted/BIOS-settings-blank-with-cursor-after-BIOS-UPD...

Thank you to all those who commented above and especially to those who have sent me suggestions via PMs.

  • Sansa view 8 GB and firmware update

HI I am a newbie so sorry if this has been posted before, I used my sansa view 8 gb mp3 and added lots of music, he loved, in any case now I decided to download the firmware update when I made it to my pc with windows 7, my mp3 player has been assigned to the pc, carefully he showed everything on battery strength m of free space etc. Once I had downloaded the firmware, computer recognizes only removable disk size 15.9 MB and sansa view shows on the display no valid g7object image loading failed when bootin mini b device mode

I had to order a new sansa view 16 GB mp3 player but at the very least, I would like to recover my music and would be very happy if I could get the MP3 itself can someone please help an absolute fool, think that it was my fault because it was perfectly ok before thanks a lot

Try the following manual not not (MSC mode) the firmware in this postinstallation instructions. Do not download and use the Sansa Updater (even if the receommends post at). Also be sure to download the correct .zip file (the one labeled A if you are in America) and unzip or extract to somewhere easy to find (like your desktop).

This should guide you through it easily.

  • Update the BIOS and Windows Update problem

    Hello

I have a Pavilion laptop g7-2017us running Windows 7 Enterprise. October 18,2012, HP maintenance program informed me that he had to update my BIOS. HP maintenance program had not updated of the BIOS.  See my BIOS is F.08 (dated 03/05/12).  Manually, I been looking for the latest BIOS and found that it was identical to what is installed on my computer.  It seems that software of diagnosis of HP gave me false alarms.

Question #2: I periodically install updates to Windows.  I saw my story updates and found 2 failed: one who is 'recommended' and the other 'Important '.  I looked at the error code and they are all two "80004004. I did google search and learned this is very serious problem b/c Windows is damaged.  I tried using Microsoft 'Fix It', but it doesn't seem to help.  Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?

    Thank you

  • Add new Member and firmware update

    Hello

I have a group of 4 bays Equallogic

    1xPS4000 (Type: 70-0120) and

    3xPS6100 (Type: 70-0400)

    They all firmware v6.0.4

The new table is a PS6210XV. I'm sure that the firmware of it's newer probably with a release v7.x.

The documentation for the firmware update, it says that I have to upgrade all the tables on my group first, and then add the new group.

I was hoping to add the new table and move some of the volumes to that one, update a table that I emptied, add back to the pool, empty one another etc etc.

    Is this possible?

It is really not a good idea to do so.   In place upgrade is by far the best option.  If you have defined your timeout of 60 seconds and choose a period of quierter I/O, that there should be no problem.  Also, be ready for an upgrade means that be ablel to handle a failure of the controller in the case of a real problem of HW.

First, if.  You need TO upgrade the new Member and all members of 6.0.x to 7.0.9.   The new table will come with 7.0.x since it is the minimum version for this controller.  Upgrade to 7.0.9 as well.  Create a new pool for this member and do not set the RAID policy yet.  Do not enable the iSCSI 2nd course interface.

What disks you have in the existing tables?

    You run VMware ESXi?

You should not have problems updating right to the latest versions of the firmware. Using the repository Manager, it is probably the easiest way. http://www.Dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN283183

  • HP Envy 114 and Firmware update

    Hi all

I just got my 114 desire and it was very easy to install, it works.

Everything works great and it connects to the internet (wifi) very well.

The only problem I have is when I try to check the update of the firmware through the screen touchscreen printer I got the following error message (there is an English translation of Italian language):

No link available. The printer is not connected to the network.

It's strange, because the printer is actually connected to the Internet and I can use ePrint, eFax etc... no problem

    Any idea?

    Thank you!!

I solved it in the meantime.

From the front panel of the printer, I erased all the web settings and services.

Then I ran the installer again... and this time I can check the update without problem.

    Thanks for the help!

  • SG200 bootloader and firmware, update command

I know how to use tftp to update the device, but I was wondering if there is a particular order I must follow.  For example, can I download boot _and_ fw in a single session and restart the switch?  Or if I might just start code only, reload the switch, then firmware?  Is how important it?  I have two switches with the following specifications

    SwitchA: V01 SG200-50 1.0.0.1/1.0.0.19

    SwitchB: V02 SG200-50 1.1.0.6/1.1.1.8

I would like to take them both at 1.3.5.06/1.3.7.18

    Thank you

    Diego

    Hello Diego,.

I recommend to download the firmware and boot code and then reboot once.  I did all three ways, but the best way would be to download both and then restart the switch once.

Just keep in mind the switch take longer then usual for the first time, once you upgrade boot code because it makes changes to the system startup files.  On the SG300 or higher, you can watch this process with a console cable, but given that the 200 do not have console access you will have to just wait.

It may take up to 5-10 minutes for the first start, I always say whenever he feels like it's been too long, wait a few minutes and then it will be operational.

Oh and in case that you're wondering there is no problem go directly to the latest firmware, there is no need to step up.  However, I would recommend defaulting and manually reconfigure switches, once you upgrade the.  Because there was some change you will be better off with a new configuration based on the new firmware.  It is not always necessary, but if you have any problems once you upgrade it would be the first thing that we would have you to do if you called support.

Hope that helps and thanks for using Cisco,

  • For the information of the BIOS and Firmware. of PowerCLI

    Hi all

Can anyone please share a PowerCLI script to get the information on all hosts in vCenter below?

    1 version of the BIOS

    2. date of the BIOS

    3 the firmware version

    4. date of the firmware

I have this but it shows that for a single server and only the details of the BIOS. I want to all hosts in the vCenter.

    $VMHost = Get-VMHost 'Server01' | Get-View
    $VMHost.Hardware.BiosInfo

    Thank you

    Nick

To run this for multiple ESX (i) servers you can do

    Get-view ViewType - HostSystem | Select the Name,@{N="BIOS version"; E={$_. Hardware.BiosInfo.BiosVersion}},
    @{N = "Date of the BIOS"; E={$_. Hardware.BiosInfo.releaseDate}}

Note that the presence of these values depends on the HW you use.

There are several types of HW from different vendors who do not properly fulfill these values.

Not sure what you mean with the properties of the firmware.

These appear in the vSphere Client?

After installing the new firmware from LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw (series CM1410), I found new in Control Panel in Service. In the signature verification, I put the bad Cancel value, but in the RFU (upgrading firmware remotely) there is ignition values and closed and locked. What is the difference between 'Off' and 'closed and locked? Which should I choose?

I guess these new items are corrections regarding the vulnerability of the firmware upgrade was informed late last year?

    In this case, well done.

I asked one of our expert engineers FW and the response has been

"Withdrawal and means locked, it will not accept RFUs and the only way to change that works again via the control panel.  You cannot use SNMP to do.  If you have just off then someone can come and still change it via SNMP.  SNMP is a Standard Internet Protocol for the management of devices on IP networks. »
