  I tried for days now to get the Desktop Manager to recognize a connection on my phone so that I can sync my Outlook contacts and calendar.  So far, I deleted and reinstalled the Manager several times.  I downloaded and installed the driver package.  I tried to do a battery pull before connecting the phone.

  Whenever I connect the phone Microsoft "new hardware found" Wizard opens and it recognizes the Blackberry device but it cannot complete the installation of the phone because apparently missing a driver.

  I love the phone, but it is useless for me until and unless I can sync it with Outlook.  Any suggestions?

  OK, I found and fixed the problem!  It had to do with the new Windows assistant material not being able to find the driver for the Blackberry device.  When I did the uninstall process part included saving the pilot atl.dll.  I assumed it was the driver that I needed to make things work.  I searched on the C: drive for the file, and when the new device Wizard came I pointed to the spot.  The Assistant began to load the driver.  He asked another file that is part of the Service Pack 2 of Windows and I searched and found this one as well and directed the Assistant for her.  It finishes loading and the device is connected.

  The problem at the end of the day was that the wizard could not find the driver that he needed, even if it is there all the time.

  Thank you for the help, it lead me to the solution I needed.

  If you bought the phone on contract with three you shoud automatically have Blackberry bolt on assets. Other functions such as e-mail and facebook app work for you?

  It would be interesting a call to them to confirm that the Blackberry Bolt On is active on your account - notes, if you bought the phone in contact with them that you shouldn't pay extra for it.

  If you don't have a BIS or BES plan, it won't work - even if you are connected over wi - fi.

However, I have broadband at home and thought, that I was connected to it--but apparently not. I tried to access our broadband from BT, but tells me to enter a PIN code (generated by my BB) in to the router to wide band. There is no way to do this (no keyboard, etc.). All I want to do is to connect to my Wifi, and it's really frustrating because it seems simply not work. I tried to do it manually (put in the name of the router, then the password), but he said that I could not connect that way or the other. Anyone have any ideas? Please? and please and please?   Thanks for trying to help.  I don't know if I could have solved it on my own.  I am in contact with our support of the software company who spoke to me through the establishment.  First I had to download an app called "Enterprise Activation" and run, and then enter the details of my e-mail account, including a password that I would not have known. It seems to work now.

  There are two kinds of Desktop Manager. There are:

  • Barebone Desktop Manager
  • Desktop Manager + Roxio Media Manager

  It seems that the one on the CD is barebones. You can go to the website of Blackberry.com and download 'Desktop Manager 4.5 + Media manager'.

  sdgardne is correct, that you must have a BlackBerry data plan to use the App World.  I think that this could be an agreement that has been in place between the RIM and the carriers to ensure that carriers do not have losers completely on App World.  Like that, they are always guaranteed fresh data.

  Unfortunately, there is no way around that.

  Note that Wifi is not considered to be a data plan because the data are transmitted via the cellular network.  I know this can be confusing, but once you understand the correct definitions for things, you will see that it is indeed correct.
