  • Friday fun: what's your favorite bagel?

Then... I had one of my team members go out and buy bagels for the team today, but I'm stuck in a meeting right now and I see everybody out of the room to enjoy. It drives me crazy. All I can think about is my bagel, I am so hungry... so my questions popped in my head.

What is your favorite bagel flavor? Mine... SALT. Mmmmm

It is not so much about the bagel (as long as it's a bagel shop and not a grocery store) for me also the things about it. I remember the first time I had salmon smoked with cream cheese herbs and garlic on a bagel toasted... changed my life!

  • What is your favorite style hyperlinks?

    Hello

What is your preferred way of styling hyperlinks?

Right now I have made them a highlighted and color mine C = 100 M = 100 Y = 0 Y = 0. In my opinion, it's a little too hard on my overall design. And then if I highlight them, how people assume to know that they are the links?

Spelling URLS is not an option. At least I have use TinyURL? They say their links will last forever, but who knows for sure?

If the document starts at least likely to be read on an eBook device or printing on a b/w device, it's probably a good idea to choose a color that will convert to something close enough the color of the text. Although it may seem as if full intensity C & M should become full black intensity, it's not like that.

I tried the same color setting as you suggest, but because he showed enough weakly on a Sony Reader, I went to broken or dotted underlines in the text color instead, at least for short TOCs, etc..  Long or dense parts (e.g. index) seem to work better if the hyperlink is invisible and only indicated by a symbol of the end, say an arrow any.

In general, using color to indicate a goal is rarely a good idea from the point of the design of a user interface - which are to create hyperlinks.  If you control the output channel to 100%, very well. But you rarely do.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones Newbie here... Is there a way to check what is running in the background

Is it possible to see what programs are running in the background on a 8820.

    Thanks in advance

Well some applications are still running in the background (browser, homescreen, BlackBerry Messenger, phone, Messages)

You can check by holding down the ALT key + click on an icon on the home screen. In the menu that appears, choose Application Switch. Or you can try, press the ALT key and now your Escape key to access the screen of the Application Switch

  • BlackBerry Smartphones Newbie - OS 9000 plz help

    Hi there-

I am new to BB (and the forums!) so please bear with me :-)

My BB is through labour and was transmitted in me when my supervisor got a new.  now, I discovered it's a BB 9000.

my current OS is 4.6.0.162 (Platform 4.0.0.155) and my carrier is Rogers (Canada)...

When I took the Rogers store when I had last summer, the girl told me that the operating system was obsolete, but I never tried to look at him so far.

I just plugged it in to the software update, but it says that there is no new OS for my camera.

I had problems with the stall warning tones and think that an update would help (pulling the battery usually helps during a little while)... but then read the thread having to downgrade to (or?) OS 5 because it is the origin of the problem.

could someone please tell me what I need to do (updated or not?  who... 5 or 6?)  and where / how I can do or find instructions to do?  I don't have a COMPUTER service to do and am fairly tech-able... it is for me.

Thanks a lot for taking pity on a newbie and help out me.

    Laura

Hi and welcome to the Forums!

From a PC, you can install any bundle of BONES to a BB via this procedure:

Note that although written for "reload", it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or recharge - it depends on the OS package you download and install on your PC. You can even use a different OS package carriers simply insert, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, a file named PROVIDER. XML. remember that you remove from your PC, no matter what other packages devices OS BB as having more than one installed on the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.

If you are on a MAC, you are limited to only your sanctioned carriers OS packages... but can still use any level they currently have to sanction. See this procedure:

    • KB19915 How to perform a clean reload of the smartphone BlackBerry using BlackBerry Desktop Software application software

In regard to what you should or should not do, it's really a personal decision. There are major changes in the OS 4.x to 5.x and 6.x again. It becomes a matter of what you like and what you can get used to. My personal opinion is still update if it is available and never expect any device technology to be perfect.

    Good luck!

  • BlackBerry Smartphones Newbie question Outlook synchronization...

I know, I know you crackberry Masters must make fun of my basic question, but it drives me crazy.

I want to curve. I'll use it for personal and business email accounts. Work email is through MS Exchange. I can access my email using Microsoft Outlook Web Access. Our server does not have this fancy/expensive Blackberry Enterprise Software Solution.

Can I still sync my email to my Blackberry Wireless and untethered work? What are the downsides to not have the fancy software / expensive?

You'll be always my friend, if you can answer this fundamental question in simple terms.

    Hi anrobb!

You will be able to receive your email wireless without the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution (BES). You can use the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) to deliver your email. There are two ways this can be accomplished:

1-direct integration of your account Outlook Web Access (OWA). Here, you must create an BIS account and enter your information to OWA, such as the web address of the OWA server, your email address, mailbox name and password. BIS will use this information to analyze your mailbox for new messages at a time interval determined (basically every 15 minutes) and send it to all new mail he sees to your BlackBerry.

    2. create a hosted mailbox and set up a redirection rule. Most (if not all) carriers offer only a free hosted BlackBerry e-mail address when you have a BlackBerry plan. For example, a customer of Verizon could create an email [email protected]. E-mail messages that are sent to these hosted email addresses are pushed to the device, so they come almost in real time. Once you have set up, hosted email address you (or your IT staff) define a redirection rule in your mail server to forward a copy of all new messages to the hosted e-mail address. The next step would be to connect to your BIS account and modify the reply-to field to be your professional email address. This it will bring up that the emails sent from your BlackBerry come from your work email.

A difference in the use of the use of BIS on BES is that you cannot synchronize wireless your address book, calendar, notes and them tasks with BIS - you will need to connect to a computer. BES offers many other features as well, but I won't get it here.

    See you soon!

  • BlackBerry Smartphones is what my emails to remove Bold 9900 soon as I received it?

I connected my Rogers email on my smartphone.  When I get an email through my smartphone, I am able to see it, but when I go back to the Inbox a few minutes later it is no longer displayed in the list.  Why is this happening?  I only had the phone for 1 week. I want to be able to retain e-mails until I have remove it from my computer at home or I delete them manually from the smartphone.

    Hello

    Reference:

    • KB05133 Features of the BlackBerry Internet Service email reconciliation

The situation you describe usually happens with an e-mail account which is, according to this KB, capable of deleted point reconciliation of the server for the BB. If there is an another e-mail client, access to this account (for example, Outlook on your computer at home) and the client is configured to delete messages from the mail server when it downloads, then BIS reconcile conscientiously that made back to the BB - from the perspective of the BIS, the element has been removed, because BIS may reconcile only against your mail server - he can't see this other PC-based e-mail client.

To avoid this, you must configure Outlook (or whatever the PC email client you use) to leave messages on the server, with the option (if available) to delete the server only when you remove them within your Outlook client itself. Normally, this allows the ability to keep the BB correctly synchronized with the Outlook client.

Depending on your mail PC client, this may or may not even be possible:

  • BlackBerry Smartphones newbie here needing a little help if poss

I have a BB Curve 8520 and dowbkoaded Facebook on it, everything seems to work fine except "Favorite places" whenever I try to use the part of Facebook places the message I get says "Support GPS your device does not support location-based services. To use Facebook places, an integrated location service of wirh device is required. "I have a few friends with the same phone and none of them has this problem. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? Many thanks in advance, Debs x

The Curve 8520 has no GPS capabilities.  When you say that you and your friend have the same phone, which is perhaps not entirely accurate; the curve is available in different levels: 8520, 8530, 3G and there may be others I'm missing.

It's like another month now when the new OS 7 phones are released, if someone were to say, "I have a BlackBerry Torch", you could answer with, ' which one of the four torches do you own?

I hope that clears things up for you.

  • BlackBerry smartphone how to read your backup file

    Hello

I use a MacbookPro to backup the data on BlackBerry "BOLD".

There are tutorials to transfer all your back until your new appliance and so on, but what happens when you simply want to read all the information a backup on your computer?

There are so many new contacts in my blackberry I want to synchronize with my address book on the computer, but I can't even read the file on my backup computer.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Orphise

Unfortunately, this is not possible with the BlackBerry backup files. They can only be restored to a BlackBerry.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones newbie

Hi all, I am a newbie to blackberry and am slightly in love with my Blackberry curve 9300, except, I can't receive songs via bluetooth from another phone.

I'm going to strawberry "receive via bluetooth", and this connects etc, then once it says 100% transferred, then it says "too large files" and cancels.

Is it because I don't have a memory card? I got a picture and there is nothing else using the memory. Help, please!

    Hello xxmadkatxx,

Welcome to the community of BlackBerry Support Forums

You are right. You will need to get a press card to receive larger files on your BlackBerry.

    See you soon,.

  • Additional applications of blackBerry Smartphones No. designed for your device found

    Hello

I get the, msg "no additional applications designed for your device not found" when trying to install new software via my Desktop Manager. I read a thread that says I have to install BlackBerry software for the current device.   It seemed to work for the individual with the question.

    The post office is: http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=BlackBerryDesktopSoftware&message.id=...

Well, I would like to download the software for mine, but my carrier/provider don't showup on the BlackBerry site.  My carrier is AlaskaDigitel.  Is there some generic download that I could use?  My Office Manager can show what software is installed on my device, like Google Maps, etc.. He simply refuses to install the software. The things I installed were facilities OTA.

Here is a little info that can help you to understand what I see:

    I have a BB 8130 Pearl
    v4.3.0.127 (Platform 3.1.0.73)

I think that there is something wrong & I just don't recognize the simple fix for it. Could someone help me?.
I opened the Desktop Manager, click on the Office Manager & watch the
    Tab 'general '.
    BB Desktop manager: 4.3.0.15

    "Components" tab
    BBDevice Manager: 4.3.0.7
    BBDevMgr: 4.0.0.1
    RIM USB driver: 4.0.0.2
    RIM USB Serial Driver: 2.1.0.4
    Application loader: 4.3.0.13
    RIMProgram: 1.0.1.35

There is nothing in the tab "Device Software"<=Is this="" the="">

Everything "Looks" right to me, but I am very, very new to this.
    Thank you
    ~ Roystreet

Yes, that's the problem.  You need the OS installed on the computer (so it will show in the tab of the device software) in order to get rid of this error.  You can use any OS for your device model, regardless of the carrier.

Use the link below to find a carrier CDMA which offers the 8130 and has a download for 4.3.0.127.  Download it, install it on your computer.  Then go into c:\program files Research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."  This file prevents the installation of your device carrier operating systems.  Deleting the file will allow DM recognize as valid for your device.  It does nothing else, so it is safe to delete.  Once you have deleted the vendor.xml file reconnect the device to the PC and launch the Desktop Manager/Application Loader.  You should be good to go.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones Newbie needs help setting up email

    Hello world

I've been the proud owner of a "BOLD" for about 48 hours now. This is my first Blackberry, so please bear with me.

I need to set up my Yahoo email. I remember setting up front, but I deleted it as my allowance for the use of network (3 Australia) showed 2 MB roaming allowance, of which half was used in one day.

I think that the e-mail message has been implemented via a browser page, but I can't go back to this page. The e-mail setup wizard seems to be to the establishment through BES which I did not. Does anyone know the address of the page?

I also remember, when I chose the browser (not of Planet 3) I was taken in a BB page that showed several options of setting up various things. There were about 5 or 6 boxes grey listed above the other? Anyone also know the address of the page for this?

    Thanks for any help,

    Paul

You also see a personal Email Setup on the device icon? If not try going into the Options | Advanced options | The host routing table. In this screen press press the button menu and choose to register now. See if you receive a message from check delivered to your device. Subsequently, reset the unit by removing the battery for 30 seconds. See if you have this icon now after restarting the device. If you still don't you can try setting up the account again on your carrier's Web site BIS to add return e-mail accounts?

What options do you remember on this Web site? Try to go to mobile.blackberry.com on your browser and see if it's the page.
