BlackBerry Smartphones unable to access Internet in WiFi hotspots such as Starbucks

Ok.  I've scoured the forums here and almost everywhere possible on the net with over some luck to find an answer for almost a month.  I am currently on the cards by Fido. I bought a BB curve about a month ago because I was told that it has built in WiFi.

I have no problem connecting to my wireless home network.  Weather, that I secure it or not secure.  I have no problem connecting to any open or secured wireless network.  When I have a problem is when I go to places like Starbucks where there a login screen.  So, I'm unable to connect at all.

Search for networks, it finds the network.  I select the network.  Then, he said that it is connected.  So I'll try to go on the internet and it gives me just a blank white screen.  Now I find that my BlackBerry is just a useless paperweight because mainly I got to use in Starbucks coffee shops, since that is where I am much of the time.

I tried to go to bell.ca and see if I could access it like this (as I read somewhere to try this), still no luck.  My question is, why would I be said that it has built in wifi, if it only works on some networks?  It is able to be used on networks that have a login screen or is not able to?  And there at - it something I am doing wrong?  It shows the name of bell's access point when it says connected.  And I made sure that I put it in wireless mode.  I had other devices (Palm Pilot) who had no problems to connect.  What is the built in wifi point if it does not work on all wifi networks?

Ultimately what I want to know, is how to get my BlackBerry to bring up the pages of connection of these "hot spots"?  Weather in Starbucks, libraries, other cafés etc. ?

I can't guarantee that it will work, but it is worth trying.  After you open your browser to connect to a wifi hotspot, press the BB Menu key and select Options and choose the Configuration of the browser.  Then, with the browser setting, try to set it to "Hotspot browser."

Who help me?  Otherwise, let me know and I'll see if I can get my Storm2 to connect to Starbucks or other hotspot later today.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones unable to access youtube on wifi

    Hello

I recently got BIS activated on my blackberry bold 9780. I have wifi at home, which I use for faster navigation. I have two questions around that.

When I connect the device with wifi, is it possible to know (or set) what connection is used for communication (BIS or wifi)?

When I turned off the radio and keep only wifi on, I am able to browse all the pages except youtube.com. With youtube, I get an error message "cannot visit a web page when the radio is off. Please put the radio in the market, and then try again"

Suppose I'm abroad without any intention to pay stratospheric roaming charges, is it possible to make the unit runs in wifi?

    Thank you for your contributions.

    Kind regards

If connection network and Wi - Fi are present, your phone will default the WiFi automatically.  To do this, connect to a Wi - Fi network and on your home screen, follow manage connections > Service status.  If you look under BlackBerry Internet Service, you should indicate a Wi - Fi connection.

Navigation via the Wi - Fi should work for youtube, as well as other sites.  You have your data on Services?  In later versions of OS, you should be able to navigate even with disabled Data Services, but let's switch to see what is happening.  From your home screen, follow the connection management > networks and connections > Mobile network and make sure that data Services is defined on it.  Try this and report with your results.  If all else fails, remove the battery while your phone is on and then replace it.  Who has been known to fix several problems.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones unable to access the calendar

I have a Blackberry Storm phone and while I was delighted by his performance and functionality I recently had the following problem.
When I press the calendar icon, the unit freezes. I have to press the home button for at least three times to release the freezer unit, and then I am able to select another function. The calendar does not display and I can't open this function via the Menu button either.
I synchronize my phone with my laptop using the Device Manager and everything seems fine synchronization.
My calendar seems to sync very well also. He is said to be a updated.
I have a number of appointments I need access when I'm out and about and the timing of freezing is a pain.
    Can you please help me.

    Thank you very much

Well what can I say... you're on point. Remove the battery and a re-boot worked.

Thank you very much. It has been confusing me for over a week now.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones can not access internet on 9320, I get "year error has occurred, please try again later".

Been happening since last night. Was working fine all day.

    Hello RobertSmall893,

Welcome to the community, as you say he worked all day, then I think that there must be a problem with the carrier, you can check that it connected to BIS or not, on your home screen for > manage connection >

The service status > here you can see that it is connected to the BIS or BES or not, otherwise contact your service provider.

    Good luck

  • BlackBerry smartphones could not connect to the WiFi system at home - "unable to get an IP address.

Like many of you, I have WiFi connection problems with my new BB9700.

When I'm out of the House, I can see my BB, find local WiFI hotspots and I can connect to them immediately.

However, when I get home, my BB doesn't connect to my WiFi, return the following error message:

    Unable to connect

Reason: Could not obtain an IP address

I downloaded the latest version of the software BB (now running version 5.0.0.351), cold all started in view (router, telephone, coffee table and the cat) but still the same error. My foot pain, the cat is not about me and I still can't connect to the House! Of course, my carrier connection works perfectly like their outrageous fees structure... (They are 3G or Hutchinson Telecom under a different name).

My WiFi access provider (PCCW / HK Netvigator) checked my system configuration and report that everything works correctly. I can connect my PS3, my laptop, my Nokia E71 without any problem and the guy from the hotline can see when I connect each of them to the system.

I tried different combinations of switching the usual options on and off on the BB but always get a connection.

SO, any of you kind of people you have a solution other than the cat suddenly once again?

    Thanks in advance,

    RS. HK.

    Dear Mike,

I basically solved this issue will me a LOT of searching.

    Step 3.

    BlackBerry Bold 9700

Delete the profile of my WiFi at home in the WiFi Options

    Step 4.

    BlackBerry Bold 9700

Reentry into the profile of my WiFi at home in WiFi Configuration

WiFi in the House. SUCCESS AT LAST!

    Step 5.

    BlackBerry Bold 9700

In manage connections, unchecked Mobile Network (i.e. Off and No Way can connect to my 3G service provider)

    Step 6.

Turn off the Blackberry Bold 9700.

    Battery pull.

    Restart the Blackberry Bold 9700.

The House immediately found of WiFi Internet and all other functions working perfectly.

Only problem is now my home network is unsecured. (Can't get the IP address if WEP security is enabled)

So it's all good now and forward it to someone else who has the same problem.

    Happy Chinese new year!

    9700 OS 6 on ATT

The problem: the email accounts through the icon of the installer cannot access.  Configuration - mail accounts.  I can highlight the e-mail accounts in the Setup menu, but can't open it.  I can open all other options in the Setup menu

I had this 9700 for 2 years and my configuration of e-mail account and operational full-time.  My email has been hacked and I fixed that on my desktop CPU but my 9700 will still not receive or send emails.  I did the following:

    1. Reset the battery removal
    2. Deleted service books

Everything I could find on correcting my email on the 9700 account is that I have to reset my email from my 9700 account information.  Unfortunately, I can not access account configuration menu email form.  Help please.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones BlackBerry ID - unable to access the Web Login site

I have problems logging into App World on the Web site. When I click on loggin it brings me to the BlackBerry ID url that shows the site cannot be displayed or problem loading page due to the connection has expired.

I tried to go through the site ID BlackBerry (BlackBerry - BlackBerry ID) and App World Store (BlackBerry App World - home page), but I still have this problem. I have tried different browsers (IE 8, Firefox, Chrome, Opera) but no luck.

App World works very well on my BlackBerry but unable to loggin on the Web portal.

I tried to contact RIM via Twitter but had no solutions of their own.

    * Update
I contacted the RIM through my wireless support and discovered his works at their end. I contacted my friend and he was able to connect to the site. There must be something with my ISP connection.

    * Update 2

I contacted my ISP and they said that they can access the login page of the App World. I tried my VPN connection and it works. I still don't understand why I can't access it without VPN

I need to know what prevents it from my computer. Well, I'm done.

  • Not have blackBerry smartphones to connect to internet

I realized that my phone is unable to connect to the internet, even if I am able to send and receive emails from my phone and my wifi connection is fine. I tried to take the battery, return service directories to my phone and I also went to the registry option in the host routing table but does not change every time that I try to use the Web browser. It loads for a while and then the message "unable to connect to the internet, try again later appears. Is there anything else I should do? Thank you!

Hello and welcome to the community!

From your post, I can't tell if you do them in the order required... or know if every successful step as they should before moving on to the next step. So, with a strong carrier signal AND your WiFi radio OFF, I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2, each should result in a message to your BB to come...) Please wait for this before moving on to the next step):

    (1) registry HRT

    • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with wireless network
    • Please wait a 'registration' message reach your Messages application

    (2) Service reference books

    • KB02830 Send the directories for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    • Please wait "the Activation' Messages, one per already configured e-mail account, arrive in your Messages. If you have not already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

    (3) restart to take batt

    • Each time a random strange behavior or slow creeps, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the hood back and remove the battery. Wait a minute, then replace the battery and cover. Power on and wait patiently through the long reboot - about 5 minutes. See if things return to functioning. Like all computing devices, BB suffers from memory leaks and others... with a hard reboot is the best remedy.

I hope that will move things again for you! If not, then you should contact your mobile provider for formal support... After all, it's their network with which your BB is to have trouble communicating.

    Good luck!

  • BlackBerry Smartphones use Storm 2 as PDA WiFi-Connected (without telephone service)?

    RESOLVED:
See the second post in this thread for the solution (thanks to wiggler forum member)

    ORIGINAL MESSAGE:

[I know I am a "retarded" for even bringing this place, but we'll just go beyond the part and talk about what I really want to know here ]

My wife and I went to an Android (Bionic) for me and an iPhone (4 s) for her. However, his old phone (Storm 2) has recently been replaced because his former 1 storm went wrong on her... and now, since my father thought finally get something to replace his old (not to mention, broken and unusable) Palm device, we thought we might as well give him the Storm 2 and see if it'll work out for what he wants.

Here's the deal about my father and his PDA... already has a cell phone, so he won't move up to a smart phone, because he does not want to pay the extra money every month just to get a PDA phone when he probably never really use the data service much and all that.

He wants a phone just to be a phone, and he also wants a PDA... just for the PDA part.

So, I thought, very well... If he is not willing to move completely in the modern era, then we can at least give him something he can synchronize with Outlook (it works... I already tried) to have its calendar and contacts with him all the time (which it is not able to do with his simple mobile).

So what I know is that it's possible, at least in a very limited sense... I have the Storm 2 sync with Outlook.
However, here's my problem... for a reason, even if the wifi card appears to connect to the wifi here in their home access point, it is not actually get an IP address and can't get out on the internet with the browser integrated into all.

    My question is this...
Is it because it is not possible (i.e. RIM has configured to disable the card wifi within the unit while there is no mobile phone service connected), or who should run, and I should watch more in the sense of something wrong at the level of the home network?

The reason why I think that it could be something awkward like that within the device itself, it is my new Android and iPhone of the wife are able to connect to the network wireless home here very well.

Sorry for such a long thing, goofy needs help, but I thought it is a good starting point. If anyone has ideas and is willing to help, please chime.

p.s. I am a computer scientist. So I have that aspect covered... at least you do not work with a complete * beep * if you jump here.

I thought about it. I did a search on google for the specific message I saw in 'wi - fi tools' (which was "no longer valid"ip address ") and found this thread...
    http://supportforums.BlackBerry.com/T5/other-BlackBerry-smartphones/IP-address-no-longer-valid/TD-p/...

The second post there (from wiggler), gave me the fix I need.
    Thank you!  :-)

  • BlackBerry smartphones unable to use instant messengers!

On my flipberry I don't have an internet/data plan on my account with tmobile!

But I can't connect to WI - FI and surf the Web well, Im able to download Apps new!

But I am unable to connect to one of the messenger applications that are installed on the phone when I am connected with the same WI - FI connection.

Yahoo, google, msn, aol, etc., that each of them do not work!

I know im putting the good info, but I get the error message is...  "Service not enabled for this handheld".

Does anyone know what I can do to solve this problem, so I will be able to use my applications of instant messaging via a Wi - FI?

Or instant messaging works only if I have a data plan for blackberry?

To access the IM or just about any BlackBerry application you must have Blackberry data plan. It is a necessary requirement for all.

  • Access Internet via WiFi with E3200

    Hello

is it possible the E3200 router to connect to internet via wifi (WLAN) interface?

In fact I can use the ethernet port called 'Internet' to connect with my router Fritz Box (which is responsible for my internet connection to my DSL provider).

But I don't want to use 10 m or over ethernet cable in my apartment, so it would be good to use just wifi.

Can someone help me get this to work?

    Thank you very much.

Lol it is not possible. It's a completely different operation mode. The E3200 has an access points wireless that accepts incoming connections from clients. You want the E3200 to connect to a different wireless access point, either you want the E3200 to customer connect to an another acccess points.

Which is like a cell tower: it accepts connections, but it connects to the other rounds (at least not using cellular frequencies).

This has nothing to do with the routing to this level, but only with basic connectivity.

The E3200 with Linksys firmware requires a wired connection.

3rd party firmware may allow you to use the E3200 as bridge or wireless Repeater same as wireless, perhaps with the FritzBox. But we have to ask in a dd - wrt forum for this.

I have 5 profiles set up on my computer, one for each Member of the family.  When I try to access Internet Explorer or Word in two of the profiles I am unable to run the command.  Both applications work as they always have under the other three profiles.  I double click on and 'Open with' dialog box appears with "Recommended programs."  The only option in this area is "Internet Explorer". I select the option and click on , but I find myself in a continuous loop with the "Open with" dialog box  When I finally click I get an another dialog asking me to save or run "ssvagent.exe." I am able to cancel out, but I can't even open either application.  If I select I can open the document in word, but I can't access Word from the options menu or the shortcut I used last year.  I ran a virus scan today and 5 cases have been detected and removed.  I ran the scan under 5 profiles, but now I can't access BitDefender (my virus scan) under either of the two affected profiles.  Please notify.
