Boot PXE ESXi 5.5.0 problems

Trying 5.5 to the PXE boot ESXi and the conduct of affairs.  Receiving the message ' Initial menu has no entry tag ' when I understand what follows in the pxelinux.cfg file.

default esx-5.5/menu.c32

title of menu install ESXi 5.5.0

Tag install

label of the menu of ESXi 5.5.0

kernel esx-5.5/mboot.c32

Add esx-5.5/boot.cfg - c

I have solved my problem.  It turns out that the pxelinux.0 file we have on our kickstart server is old and what is not compatible with mboot.c32 and menu.c32.

  • Boot PXE T430 problems

First off I would like to list my hardware/software

    MDT/WDS server:

    MDT 2012

    Windows 2008 R2 server

I have a fully working MDT PXE server with a WDS images. Basically, I have a Server TDS who gets the PXE request and then stops on the WDS image to start the imaging process. It works fine on the lenovo thinkcenters ok and I can boot from the CD from the MDT server. But when I boot from the network card I get no response or not DHCP.

-J' downloaded all the drivers for the Thinkpad and they injected into the MDT and WDS for the WINPE image

-J' updated the BIOS to the latest version 2.09

-I can start from the cd very well on my server and pull an ip address

Not sure why this laptop model is a failure on the network boot process... Anyone see the problem?

    Adkyle, my model is:

    Lenovo ThinkPad (2349-KZ4) T430

Last night I let my MDT completely rebuild my boot image rather than update the boot image. Imported image for WDS (PXE) and always start not go.
Now, if I use the CD to boot I can bypass the WDS server and rethink the role of the multidisciplinary team. Forcing the circumvention of the PXE boot. The (already flashed to the lates) BIOS settings do not give many parameters in the network boot box.
Don't know how well I like it, but at least we can boot from the cd of MDT.

  • T510: PXE - E61: Media test failure problem

I have just over one year an owner very satisfied with a T510 (type the code 4313CTO, under XP SP3). However, two days ago, I tried to start as usual and received a startup message that there is a disc read error. After several attempts to solve the problem, I now get PXE - E61: Media test failure. I know that the disc is good, because I can read and write perfectly in another PC. The software on this is good, because the restoration from a recognized reliable backup did not help. Finally, loading the same backup to another HARD drive and try it also did not help. Also, try to start with that second drive via the eSATA port has achieved the same result.

In the BIOS, I tried to not set the controller SATA to 'Compatibility' mode (he had worked in AHCI mode) - no good. I also tried different combinations of the boot order, all to nothing does not. Although it can play CDs, if I try to run the installation of Win XP CD, I end up with the BSoD, directed with the message "a problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

I fear that the damage has already occurred. Is it possible I can run a diagnostic to check if material (i.e. the interface SATA) is screwed in fact?

OK, last update on this problem: and today's lesson, it is that, if you replace a component suspect (in this case, my HARD drive), make sure it is with that which is good (that wasn't). My confusion is aggravated by the fact that I examined it with a USB-SATA interface with a suspect SATA port, via a USB hub low power. Once I got around these questions, by restoring the yet another (certainly known to be good) HARD disk, it worked fine. Reformatting and restoring my original HARD drive also worked well, so I am now back to the status quo ante, i.e. my laptop works fine as before and my happiness . As to why my HARD drive was lost, who knows? Maybe it was too go through an airport x-ray machine.

One thing I get is a test of BACK of PC Doctor utilties bootable CD (downloaded from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70443.html) which is really worth having - I recommend it to anyone having problems with a T400 or T500 series.

  • Re: How to disable boot PXE 2.1 Pre on Satellite M40?

    People
I would like to disable the PXE 2.1 Pre boot that seems to be part of the BIOS on my laptop. It's just a gene such that it expires after a while.
    the laptop is
    Satellite M40-136
    BIOS V1.70
    2048 MB RAM
    Win XP Pro operating system

I don't see a setting in the BIOS to disable the PXE 2.1 Pre Boot. I don't think its anything to win the OS it loads at switch on before the start of the BONE.
    Anyone know a solution please.

    Thanks in advance.

    Dennis

    AFAIK, you can't turn off.
What you need to do is to change the boot order in the BIOS.

Set the LAN as last bootable device as first boot HARD drive device. That all s that you do.

  • Satellite L500 - boot PXE ROM message

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 only a few weeks, after a reboot I got the following error message,
"For failure of Realtek PCI-E Ethernet Controller PXE - E61 Media Test, check cable PXE - M0F outgoing PXE ROM.

I tried everything I could think off, ultimately exploitation 0 cash to restart to try to restore the factory default, however the laptop just made the turn, loading the operating system, drivers etc, restart, then back to the loading of the operating system again. I suspect the PXE - E61 error indicates the hard drive has developed a defect and will need to be replaced, but I would avoid to return under warranty if possible.

Could someone either confirm that there is nothing I can do other than return under warranty or offer me a fix?

    Thank you very much
    Brettie

    Hi Brettie,

I had a similar problem on my laptop HARD drive became faulty after a few weeks. I think that this is not uncommon and can still happen, so all data must always be backed up on a second disc. But for example I have a laptop that is already 4 years old and the HARD drive still works like the first day! ;)

    > it back under warranty if possible.
Of course, you can fix this problem under warranty. Simply contact your local authorized service provider and explain your problem. They will help you!

  • Perform a boot PXE for MDT 2013 T450S

    Hello

I am trying to install a new picture on my T450S with the latest version of the bios.

Perform a PXE boot from my WDS server does not work for this laptop (all other brands such as HP etc work)

WDS settings default (so no option 66 or 67) I get received 53 No. PXE boot file name.

Tried several options with changing these settings in WDS and also in the bios of the T450S without results.

What parameters are necessary for pxe boot the T450S to WDS/MDT?

    Found the solution!
Disable netbios on the WDS/MDT server and after that it works!

  • MD3200i / ESXi 4.1 Multipathing problem

I'm having a problem with a MD3200i and our new virtual server T710 - it works, but performance is absolutely catastrophic.  Here are the details...

Server is a T710, 4 integrated network interface cards + a 4 Intel Server NIC port.  Execution of ESXi 4.1 was last updated - now that he has 6 guests on it, going to be total 10 (most are lightly loaded special servers). Server is connected to the San 4 direct cable to port 4 Intel Server NIC to 4 ports on the management controller

We have 4 drives (2 TB SAS) in the SAN - not my first choice - but what the customer wanted. Table is configured as a RAID-10.  We have 3 logical volumes - to 2, to 1 and 750 GB.  Each is formatted as a VMFS data store.

I followed the instructions in the White Book of Dell to implement the MD3200 with ESX 4.1 and it does not appear that we have multpathing working properly.  The VCenter Client is only show 6 usable track - should be 12 total (3 volumes of x * 4 network cards).

I went through the docs, a handful of times, can't find anything that seems an obvious problem.  Here's the output of certain commands in the documentation - if something else would be helpful, let me know.  I feel that I'm running a wall of bricks here, any advice would be great!

    Thanks in advance...

Your problem is that you use a single subnet for the entire iSCSI configuration.

Each NIC (that you want to use for iSCSI) needs its own subnet. If you do not (from your network group) superior to scale 10.10.102.0 - 255, just subnet with a 27-bit subnet mask. The gateways are not relevant because I doubt that your server will try to connect to a San in a completely different network, so you don't have to worry about having to do/create additional gateways on the switch (s).

Here is an example of setting based on your IP ranges and modify with a subnet mask of 27 bits (255.255.255.224) (to avoid having to get several IP address ranges):

    SAN iSCSI ports:

    Controller 0:

    iSCSI port 0: 10.100.102.1

    iSCSI port 1: 10.100.102.33

    iSCSI port 2: 10.100.102.65

    iSCSI port 3: 10.100.102.97

    Controller 1:

    iSCSI port 1: 10.100.102.34

    iSCSI port 2: 10.100.102.66

    iSCSI port 3: 10.100.102.98

News of the iSCSI Server (in a context which is understandable if all goes well):

    -vmnic7-> network->-> 10.100.102.3 vmk1 iSCSI

  • ESXi 5 storage connectivity problems

When I was setting up our infrastructure to vsphere 2 years ago I did everything according to the "best practices" (Netapp, VMWare and Cisco).

I had 2 4.0 hosts and I implemented the storage network (NFS and iSCSI) as an EtherChannel on one side of the switch Cisco and active NIC and IP HASH in a side ESXi load balancing.

Now, I just added 2 more than 5.0 hosts, reclassified vCenter to 5 and wanted to set up the new host for storage, but that is the problem.

Somehow ESXi5 let me use exactly the same configuration, I can't have 2 active adapters on both ESX and for this reason, I can't use hash IP in this vSwitch load balancing.

So, how am I suppose to add Stoarge to the new ESXi5?

EtherChannel is no supported network storage more on ESXi5?

If I have to stop using EtherChannel on the CISCO site that will break my conection of storage for the two production hosts ESXi 4.

    Any input appreciated.

    Thank you

Add maps via the iSCSI GUI software is ports VMKernel will link individual (and usually multiple) of a single software iSCSI initiator.  "It's the GUI version of ' esxcli swiscsi nic add n d .

To configure this for vSphere 5, VMkernel port NIC grouping settings must be configured as described in the error.

If you choose to not explicitly link VMkernel ports the software initiator, let the empty Network Configuration tab, and the VMkernel routing table automatically chooses an appropriate VMKernel port to connect.  According to your description, this is how your environment vSphere 4 is set up.
